I hope I don't end up like one of those people. I've already expressed interest in a few roleplays and I'm excited! I'm certainly not going to back out.

I totally understand how it can happen. I do. I used to be fifteen, with a short attention span, with which ensued a spectrum of problems, from reading comprehension (e.g. getting bored and "skimming") to waiting "too long" for an RP's rising action after the boring shit like worldbuilding and character development. I would thus join RPs thinking I'd get something different from what I would actually get. And slipping away was easier than having to look people in the eye and tell them I was leaving their RP, because if I was leaving their RP, it was inherently implicit that I didn't like their RP, and I was also a pushover who didn't like hurting others. Uhh, you can see that has changed, lol.

So, yes, I used to do this. Then I grew up. I was always offended and insulted when people abandoned, ignored, or deceived me, certainly, but it took me a long time to realize that I was probably hurting other people by doing the same shit to them as others did to me: apparently just pretending to like their threads, and then deserting like it was all a great prank. Asking yourself "why" people leave always hurts more than any reason they can come up with, even the most bitter and vindictive. So really, when people do this they either don't realize at all that they're hurting others, especially such fragile and egoistic people as artists; or they just don't care.

TL;DR: Anyone who does this is either a child or a coward, or both.

Yeah bro, I think most of us don't take it personally. When you're skimming the forum of your choice for a new RP, do you like every single thread? Do you join every single one? Of course not. We all have preferences and we all come to understand that about each other eventually. There's no reason for me to believe that my Fantasy thread is garbage just because you, a Science Fiction player, are not interested in it. We'll never appeal to everyone, and frankly we shouldn't try, but that's another B!tch all its own.

It's when you make a mockery of my thread by pretending to join it that a line is crossed. We all have only so many minutes on this earth and I don't like squandering them by reading bios for characters I'll never get to RP with.

True words. I appreciate the lecture, too. I wish I could think of something to respond about the same length as yours to make a more meaningful appreciative gesture, but I guess not. What I'm trying to say is that I appreciate your wise words. This is a lesson I'll never forget. (Or at least not try to forget.)

I hope to see you on future threads!

It still boggles my mind when people ask if there's still room... when there's a million signs that say "YES, YOU MORON. THERE IS."

Is there 'apply' in green shiny letters? Then people shouldn't really be asking, I feel. Not sure why the RP's status seems to be ignored 99.9% of the time.

From my experience, it's because a lot of GMs don't change that, even when it gets full. Although this is just from being here for a couple of days and lurking for far too long. But. It's a trend I've noticed in that short time.

@Superboy's right. I've seen RPs with big green "Apply", with their GMs blocking off every single new application.

How should a civilized society execute these animals?

I was thinking we suspend them inside a metal sphere which only opens from the top. You feed them food from this opening, and as they eat the sphere slowly fills up with their shit and piss. Eventually they're eating piss-soaked food and they're struggling for air so they don't drown in the shitty piss collecting in the bottom of the container. The piss and shit might even mix with vomit if the smell gets to them. When they finally die it's from a combination of septic shock, suffocation, infection, and if they're on hunger strike, starvation.

Thoughts?

Prototype 2.0 should probably be a cylinder instead of a sphere, so then they'd drown by the time they've accumulated enough piss to reach the top and make an escape attempt. They'd have to try to swim to stay afloat and that wouldn't last more than a day or two before they exhaust themselves.

A cylinder would be a terrible shape. If they exhausted themselves, they could just press their hands and feet against either side to prevent themselves from drowning.

It's when you make a mockery of my thread by pretending to join it that a line is crossed. We all have only so many minutes on this earth and I don't like squandering them by reading bios for characters I'll never get to RP with.

In my case, I express interest but usually indicate that I will spend a few days to ensure it is legitimate interest; I am fully in when I post the bio, as by then I'll know if my interest was just a pointless fling of 1-2 days or something to last a longer.

Now, if you spend the time to make a bio immediately and then decide "nope" that I say - come on mate. Know yourself a little...

And then of course there are the ones who flake on every single thread, joining, posting a CS, maybe 1-2 IC posts and before you know it, already are on the next roleplay and abandoned the last one...

@ArenaSnow You say that you "indicate that [you] will spend a few days" and onward. If you're actually informing people of your absences and silences then you're not part of the problem. It's all about those people who evaporate from the face of the earth without telling us whether they've lost interest, or on the contrary, whether they're actually working hard on a CS!

@Superboy And yet, sadly, I've had people try to join roleplays I've GMed that were listed as FULL. Not just with a "Can I join?", but with a fully completed CS.
