My preference is toward average/ugly characters (plus for Fantasy I like to douse myself in the historical styles; powdered wigs and lace and pantaloons and all!), but pretty people are fine, if that's not their entire purpose to the story. "Fangirlism" notwithstanding, why would you treat RP as nothing more than a wet dream in the written word? Why would you object to realism, which, yes, includes most people in the world being slightly above or below average, and certainly not fucking supermodels and A-list actors?

Might I also add that this person managed to get my character's name wrong... No not a misspelling... My character was, let's say, "Steve", and they called him "Phillip". Like how the fuck does that even happen? Did you even read anything about my characters and the RP?

I've forgotten the name of my own character before. I was playing two or three games at the same time. I was using the wrong character's name in the wrong game. The other players were all, "Who is Tom"?

Chick lied to me both about her motivations for joining the RP, and about why she wanted me to change my character. The two are interrelated: she wanted the 1x1 to blossom into her crummy little wish-fulfillment romance RP where the princess gradually falls in love with her loyal, devoted guardian-knight.

That I've been in... there was one time where sex scenes became in vogue in an RP I was part of. One guy, trying to keep up with the trend, wrote a sex scene where he described a blowjobs looking like... I think the word was "Headbutting"?

Lemme fix it by giving an experience of my own.

So, I'm the host of a Yu-Gi-Oh! RP on this site. I had this player, who I shall just name 'Player Y'. Player Y PM'd me to sign up to the RP, but had a few concerns. I'm like 'alright, I'll bite. Shoot.'

I discussed the issues they had, things went smoothly and then they pitched me the character. For anyone who's seen the original show, Player Y wanted to play a character sort of reminiscent of Kaiba, namely in the rich teenage asshole who somehow was the CEO of a multimillionare company, and had a little sister to keep him in line. They also had a backstory about a cursed card(YGO, just roll with it.) that lashed out against the audience in a tournament once, which was a burden on his heart.

This all? I actually was on board with it. Sounded cool, I liked the mechanical design of the card and it all seemed pretty solid. We go through the process of creating their character and deck, they hop on in and everything looked just peachy.

...Up until about five posts in.

Well, I should've been tipped off from the word salad that was their first post and rather... blatant copying of characteristics from the anime, but it's not like they were the worst I had. Naw, the problems started to occur when the asshole character suddenly decided to prevent someone from falling by jumping forward to catch them, doing a spin in mid-air and landing on his feet. That's some mad acrobatics right there, and it was all to prevent someone from getting tripped. The guy then proceeds to tell my character, who did the tripping by the by, off and saying they're a bad person. Just kinda shrugged it off, but then they headed over to an area that is specifically mentioned in the OP as off-limits.

Worst part is I allowed both those things to happen, and it didn't get any better from there.

A page or three further and we get to a moment where one of my players decided to have his character flirt with Player Y's sister character. Now, this sister character was a nice little cinnamon roll that wouldn't hurt a fly, aside from hitting someone with a paper fan if they acted out of line. None of this was really an issue, but it was her established character. Now, when the flirt did the flirting, this all got tossed out the window. She snapped at him, saying he doesn't understand anything about her or her pains (conversation had shifted to this, makes sense in context) and then still had the flirt escort her to her room. This would've been fine as a one-off snap, but this wasn't the case.

Sister character had turned into a nihilistic, unpleasant person who couldn't say even a single nice thing about the people around her. This was such a big 180° and came so far out of left field that almost half the players and me called Player Y out on it, but they justified by saying the nicety act was all a front and she was like this all along. Keep in mind she didn't mention any of this when pitching the character to me. Not only that, but she didn't even bother to have the sister character even *pretend* like she's nice anymore like what Player Y claims she's been doing.

From this point on Player Y shifted almost all, if not all of the focus from asshole to sister and had the character IC complain about every little thing and mistreat her cards, actively changing her favorite card into her least favorite card, yet still uses it in her deck. After about three incidents of this I said 'aight, the card's like totally not cool with this(said card was also the afformentioned cursed one) so it kinda refuses you until you treat it better'

Player throws a fit, insults me to hell and back, gets booted, PMs me still for like two weeks after and then goes silent until I get another PM a month later.

But that's a story for another time. This entire post is basically the TL;DR of it all, to get this thread back to it's original intention. g'bye.

Right then, let me throw another one in that contributed to a loss of brain cells. This was in Cortex Roleplay on Starcraft 2, a roleplaying engine where you can take any asset from the game (and sometimes more) and throw something together to make your characters/setting for the roleplay. Most commonly, people are in "pubs" - 6-8 people randomly drop in, launch the game and start creating their own things that are then mashed together into a roleplay. I've had surprisingly good success with that, but one time stands out to me as being really special.

There was a guy in a desert map who spawned some 200 moving ships in the north side of the desert. These were fantasy wooden boats that sailed on sands and roads. The rest of the roleplay was a sci-fi wasteland, but this guy was sitting on the top of the map with boats and derping his way through the desert. He wasn't roleplaying, or at the least, wasn't interacting, and set himself as hostile to all other players. It was all very strange. He then got mad at me when I, as the GM, nuked his garbage after telling him to get his act together.

My stories summed up: I am a terrible roleplayer, who when he started came here and looked like he couldn't read English and had characters that made absolutely no sense.

I have many stories of people on the RPG being so incredibly stupid that I felt the need to quit roleplaying altogether. \( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)/

Well, let me start with a roleplay I ran ages ago (Basically a realistic superpower roleplay set in a Las-Vegas/New Orleans type place, w/e). It was going fairly okay. But then, there was this one dude who joined with a character that seemed simple enough; opened holes in objects. That's at least what I thought. A little while later, someone else joins with the ability to open portals. The former dude started complaining about how this character has the same power as his (being very passive aggressive about it). I and a GM noted that we had a different idea of how the power functions due to the fact that, well, he didn't make any mention of teleportation.

We were willing to hear him out, but then he just goes on a tantrum, and leaves. All was fine and dandy until his friend also leaves with a rather closed-minded message I respond to, which drew him back. He comes at me and my gm acting like I "wronged" him, acting like a complete and utter fool in the process. It becomes a back and forth with no real progress on any side, so I just chose to ignore him, and everything went back to the normal. Though, when I closed the RP, he just had to come back, and leave one more message that basically just amounts to "fuck you, I'm going to bug you forever." I, again, ignore him, and just quietly added him to my blacklist for good.

Probably my tamest story, but I didn't feel like describing the others.

I once RP'ed in a wow server with a night elf male called Shadowhart who didn't ever get a single word he typed in english correct and would make these really odd, OP statements. Like, he would just emote "I zneak op und eviscertate you. x drops dead" or because he was a rogue but now he's a druid in class he just goes "E tun into a bure and maul you" it probably wasn't as bad as I remember it but you know...shock of it probably dictated my memories more.

Then there was me. I had serious problems with balance when I was a kid/teen. I was really in dramatic scenes but my inexpeirenced and indecisiveness as a spot spore of my age meant I flipped flopped on my powers. I didn't make shit up right on the spot...I normally RP'ed something to include the growth but at a point it moot. But at the time I was surrounded by just as shitty RP'ers with just as sewer seeking attitudes.
