Petyr Clegane is the only son of Sandor Clegane, 'The Hound'. He never knew his mother ands Sandor simply tells him it was some whore he bedded and she left him their child after she carried it. In spite of this Sanddo has always referred to his son as a Clegane rather than a hill, the normal name for bastards of the westerlands. In the same vein Petyr calls himself Clegane as well. Sandor was always harsh with his son, Petyr learning to be strong from his fathers harsh teaching. Petyr was taught how to fight as soon as he could hold a wooden sword, Sandor teaching him the same way he larned. Petyr like his father and late uncle grew quickly and had a talent for fighting early. He was somewhat confused by his fathers aversion to knight hood and seeming refusal of multiple opportunities to become a knight, but came to uinderstand and accept it upon learning of his uncle, The Mountain that Rides.
Although he accepted he'd never know his real mother, Sansa Stark helped in his education and acted nearly as a surrogate due to his fathers constant proximity to her. Sansa happily taught Petyr much about diplomacy, politics and other, softer skills than combat. Although the boy was much of an oaf in his lessons with her he has diligently pressed on, even as Sandor calls them off as 'a waste of his time' Petyr refuses to give up, wishing to be more than just a warrior. Now, at the age of 14 and already a skilled fighter, Petyr seeks to prove his worth to his father, Sansa, and anyone else.

Petyr Clegane is quite like his father in terms of his abilities. Like Sandor he is a big man, standing already at 6 feet tall at the age of 14 and with quite a bit of strength. He is already a capable warrior due to his constant training with his father and his immense strength. Like his father Petyr is blunt and honest, but quite a bit less aggressive towards others.
