So, what games has the thread been playing lately? I've been playing a little bit of Pokemon Moon here and there, almost at the Akala Island final trial.

God eater 2 rage burst.

Only because I 100% God eater Resurrection already.

I never really dabbled much in God Eater tbh. I heard good things though.

What are the games like?

It's like monster hunter, but faster.

And faster every which way. In monster hunter it can take you 5-10 minutes just to find the monster, where as some battles are over in god eater within that time. There's less grinding, I'm confident that you could beat the story missions without replaying any levels until you get to the late-post game. There's a lot more freedom and customization with how you equip your characters, and it's not tied to character cosmetics. I could personally never go back to monster hunter after playing god eater. That doesn't mean that it doesn't suffer some of the same pitfalls. Namely that while there isn't a lot of grinding, the game's very nature is kind of grindy in that you'll be fighting some of the same creatures a lot.

Story mode is hit or miss. It's pretty good at being funny, but when it needs to be dramatic it's usually a little too generic or rushed to make you feel sentimental about what's going on. I got both of them in a pack together on steam. It's good game to play if you don't want to think too hard, haha.

I left my copy of MH3U on 3DS behind when I moved to Winnipeg two years ago, so it's been a long-ass time since I played.

Not a big fan of Action RPGs tbh though, I prefer the turn-based stuff like Valkyrie Profile or Shin Megami Tensei.

It really depends on the game for me. not all rpgs are created equal, action, turn-based, or otherwise.

Valkyrie Profile looked interesting, mostly because I like fighting games, and incorporating them into a turn-based format looks cool. I haven't played it though. The only Shin Megami Tensei game I played (I think it was 3 or 4?) had way to much grinding and I dropped it after getting about 4-6 hours in. To each their own though.

Shin Megami Tensei IV and Valkyrie Profile 1 (the PSX original) are my all-time favorite and third favorite games of all time, respectively.

SMT DOES have grinding, but it's not quite as bad as, say, Disgaea. And VP has very minimal grinding, since it's designed around not wasting time in places you've already been.
