@Nytefall
I recommend using the word species instead of race.

Chances are the Baridi have multiple races from the deviations the more heavily ingrained tribalism mixed with their tendency to colonize separate mountains which tends to lead to divides.

And they may not all have the same cultural norms, something to consider as you say "all Baridi", which bothers me since it implies they are monolithic and a monolithic species is no good.

Hmm. So they're basically more clever with a synthetic material. If other players want to be a Baridi (which they can due to the species being public domain policy) or something so akin to a baridi in niche that you could share a family with them, would you tolerate potential tech pooling? I ask this since one mechanic I have in mind is that when players share a species/genus of species that are closely related they tend to share technologies as well.

@Oraculum

Any thoughts on the current edition of Custodian guidelines?

Carbyne, artificial in nature, chances are my species might have it and at least a version of some technology you have if we've met in lore, but that would mean we would have to work on that together, not to mention something I'd have to add into the description of my species, speaking of.

@Arawak
Does the 2nd draft service both Civilization and Species app Or should I make one for specifically their civilization? Because I can keep it in that format for small edits. (Note the Civ app would be more in detail with their beliefs from a narrators perspective or somewhat like that, so that their civilization is explained more in detail though it should also be noted that most of their culture is already mostly explained bar a few details for lore purposes.)

Civ app would be the app you want your focus Civ to be.

The recent additions do add a fair bit of clarification, and the leeway for surreal ideas is certainly a strong incentive for me to join. Although I am unfortunately unable to submit a complete application at the moment due to network limitations, I can briefly describe the concept I have thought up.

It consists of a super-entity of sorts, composed of various beings with specialised functions partially dependent on each other to operate optimally (somewhat similarly to a symbiotic relationship, but only crudely describable in terms of one). I have no definite ideas as concerns their location, but, seeing as I intend on them to be heavily reliant on minerals (chiefly crystalline, perhaps partly organic) either Ezra or the depths of Solomon would seem plausible.

That sounds intriguing. I hope to see more of your super-entity in the near future.

In that case, the focus civilization from the two major Colonies would be Imperia, over Conquista, since Imperia is the major colony that the explorers first made contact with, Would that be sufficient because I don't know what else to add to the App in terms of information, since it's loaded with all I've got at the moment, I've also decided on a name, Mantodae from the actual scientific name of the insects I based it off of, Mantodae Conquista, Mantodae Imperia, Mantodae SP.

Tell me what ya think? Personally I think it doesn't roll off the tongue, but then I think, not all people give cool names to things nor are all people very clever or creative with naming, especially some scientists and explorers.

It's decent and allows other players to give them all matter of colorful names.

Okay so I'm pretty much almost set, with just a few minor edits to the draft and finalization with nyte if he chooses to actually interact with my species of bugs, and if I can, tweak the naming convention a little and have a name in the insects point of view which from my options could be from as primitive and unimaginative as "The Colony" or "The Collective" to an actual name for themselves given by locals and not explorers (Some of these I may need help with since I don't know what language the other player will be using for his Civ/Species). Colloquial names or nicknames can be decided by players who meet my species, I believe that gives the meeting and impression more personality. Other than that I think I'm set right?

You are. Feel free to PM me a introductory IC post to get the accept or make the focus civ, either path is fine with me.

I will note that I am waiting to see if we can get at least one human player, one custodian player and one alien player before starting up the IC.

(We already will be 2/3rds the way there when Oraculum makes his app. Hopefully someone out there who has been observing this thread is interested in being a human civ.)

Alright, for now I'll get some rest, I just need to kind of wait for nyte and his response before actually starting, haha, timezones are quite a thing being 2:18 AM here in the Philippines by the time I'm posting. But I should be able to, (If all goes well) finalize everything later today. See you in a couple of hours, I'll make sure to back read in case of new developments.

Seen you soon.

@Nytefall
Tell me if I have this right about your species (please call them a species unless you are referring to a race of Baridi);

Do they have a psychology that is more prone to ritualistic, stereotyped behavior and strongly centered the tribal unit which is stronger than the exogamy filled human tribes. The Baridi being a species where the lines between culture, technology and instinct are more blurred?

Since that actually is a pretty cool concept, a species that organizes in geothermal powered city states with modern tech linked around the cold regions of Ezekiel.

It'll be interesting to see how you expand upon them.

@ArawakI might be interested into doing something like neo-medieval/sci-fi gothic humans. Don't hold me to it tho, I'm unsure of full commitment at this point right now. Although I have to ask, will this be like hard scifi or softer scifi?

In terms of sci-fi try not to be that soft with it, i'd say it's sort of like clay in terms of hardness. I allow for some molding, but I still expect it to be internally consistent and have some grounding in reality. For instance if you must choose between fancy floaty hovercraft and wheeled vehicles, go with the wheeled vehicles. That's why near-future tech is what I prefer as I don't really feel like you need to be that advanced in a RP centered around a moon system, or should.

I am one who would rather see people make interesting societies and story arcs instead of spend two thousand words in their app describing every weapon in the armory.

In short the general tech level is near-future type stuff. Custodians even are really just advanced in different but still explainable ways. I'm just not a fan of magic in general and see it as pointless when you can have rail guns and power suits.

@Arawak So basically its the dial-up AOL version of space travel and communications, got it.

That said, are any of the following okay? Just running past some things to sort of get a footing:

- Walkers/Mechs
- Powered Armor
- Genetic Modification
- Prosthetics
- Dropping large objects from orbit
- Feudalism

Compared to FTL comms I suppose.

No need for FTL when it's just one star system.

All the tech you listed is fine since some example of it exists in the real world, including the rods from God and mechs.

And North Korea already shows you can have fuedalism with modern tech.

I should probably mention that the walkers I'm talking about may or may not be Imperial Knight copies from 40k and that the large objects I'm dropping from space may or may not include said notImperial Knights.

Try to mix the inspirations up more and play around with subtraction editing. This isn't a fanon RP.

@Arawak That's what i was going for. People who even though they have advanced technology enjoy cracking skulls together or going hunting.

I can post up their military as well I just need to make changes so that it fits the setting

They're a species, remember that. No need to have one way of life for them.

As a way to think about this, think of them as a species and what species universal traits they have and than make a focus Civ for them. That's why I get bothered when you call them a race as that implies they are more homogenous than a species.

This is important as all species are public domain, so it is important to know what they are like as a species. It is assumed that you have NPC cultures alongside your focus Civ that are less developed in every case as they're a species strewn around the world you have them inhabit.

@Arawak My bad with the whole race thing it was from another cs that I never changed. I would believe that all of them follow the imitation ceremony and return to their home city for their bone enhancement.
