Personally I enjoy making several characters. The roleplays I like to play normally need a lot of characters and I take it upon myself to help populate the roleplay. Plus it always gives me more characters to work with so I am rarely ever bored. So what about you guys?

I'm the same way, if I have time for it I actually prefer a couple of characters. That said, there are some RPs where that ends up coming back to bite me in the ass. It's happened more than once! BUuuut, MOST of the time I RP at least two characters, I've been known to go as high as 3. This is doubly true of 1x1s, where I very briefly had like 10 characters for a Harry Potter RP consisting of nearly entirely non-canons. Sadly, when the guild went down I lost contact with who I had that RP with and I cannot for the life of me remember her sn :( :(

But, back to the point, I definitely like to have more than one character!

The most characters I have played in one roleplay was 12 but about half of them were minor characters who were only there to help the story along. I cannot ever just play one character because I hate being stuck lol

The most I've ever done was three, and I found that overwhelming. These days, I stick to one or two characters per Roleplay.

I usually stick to the one, because of time-investments. I can go more but it sort of requires the RP to remain healthy for an extended amount of time.

I tend to use a hell of a lot of characters in my rp.

So far I have what I'd consider three main characters in my rp, but I can also have on a per chapter basis many more then that as both mains and as villains, not to mention npcs. In one chapter I think I was running about 12 characters simultaneously.

As a player, one, maybe two. We prefer to flesh them out thoroughly.

As a GM, numerous, with some being more integral to the plot than others, but none being the true center. That's the players' job.

As a GM, numerous, and those are all NPCs. I do the bulk with them, but players can use them as needed.

As a player? 1. That's all I need.

In the Arena? I have several different ones to pull from, but usually one.

The most i played was in a 1x1 where I played a group of teens who were on a trip to AussieLand.

As a player I usually focus on one Main Character, and a second I could sub if my main needed a break, died, or was taken out of action a while. I do this mostly because my mind tends to follow possibilities quickly with this sort of thing. Setting out to make one character is a fool's errand for me, as I already know one or two more will sprout up. Anything more is just thrown into the NPC list and I am happy to see others use them for their plots.

When GMing I try to form a balance. In the beginning, a GM is a bit like an author in that they must put enough down for others to get the jist of the world and it's possibilities. I make a few NPCs or suggest their existence, then allow my players to take over, build those personalities, and ideally build up the world. In my eyes if I'm the only one creating the population then I may as well go write a book. So here I focus on one player and urge everyone into creating NPCs to liven the world.

Lots and lots and lots.

It can be a tad bit overwhelming, but I need the variety.

Personally, I wont have more then 2 characters on average in anyone role play other wise I end up confusing myself, and specially in a fast paced RP Ill come back after being asleep to see 5 new pages to read through and react to lol, so less characters the better in my book :)

Depends on my inspiration and the activity of the RP itself.

Like Rilla i have one per role-play but in the arena I have several to draw from depending on the scenario the duel takes place in, although I have two I use more often than others.

I play many. Like, a lot. I'm a nation RP kind of guy, so that usually means I play the leader of the nation, as well as the people under him, and even simple citizens. And I'm not talking "My nation sends a million troops to invade buttfucknowhere". I'm talking getting to know a lot of characters on a personal level, with character development and all.

Yeah. I use characters to explore the invasions. Instead of saying that I invaded a country, I'll have an infantryman's point of view show it.

If its an RP that pits 'sides' I preffer RPing a whole team on the individual-level as a cohesive-unit. Or two partial-teams to portray how a unit behaves as many all at once.

But if it's just investigative/spy RP? Single protagonist, and a ton of meatbags.

For me it depends on the RP usually. If I'm really into it then I may create more than one character.

I tend to make several whenever possible, mainly because I like the diversity in the cast and I'm not stuck doing one thing at a time in an RP full of different things going on at once. It also tends to keep the RP interesting for me, when I have multiple different perspectives on a single world. Such as, there was one RP where everyone was trapped in an abandoned school. There was the one character who saw it as hell, another who saw it has his own personal paradise without rules, and another who wanted to take it all over.

However, when I'm running my own RPs, I tend to make many characters, 10+ actually. One RP I'm doing off site I have 14 characters in total
