I can answer the first question for you,
you don't have to have more than one character some of us have multiple for plot purposes, relationship purposes etc. For me, I'm mostly going to focus writing on my main squeeze (Alice) but I have a side character (Sarah) that will pop in every now in then. Hope this helps :)

Humans think of them as boogeymen. The secret that they aren't human is guarded by years of lies and false rumors.

The rumor in town is that the family is a bunch of uber rich people, who've been around for as long as they can remember. They also pay off the local human authorities to... turn a blind eye.

No, they do not. Kinda hard to forget your flesh being torn off your body... Some vamps are quite brutal in their feeding habits...

Heh heh heh... Oh yes. There are a few... You will see them.... We got some good plot ready to go about a very notable faction.

Duvalt is originally from Eastern Europe... He's so old he's forgotten which empire he hails from. He travelled west because of culture shifts. Settled in Wales because he likes the countryside, and the people are blissfully ignorant.

Duvalt assimilated them long ago. He is the only ruler in Europe and parts of Eurasia. He had personally killed the vampire himself in 1477, thus ending the last court in Europe that wasn't under his control.

I'll stick with one character (Maggie). But I have a million ideas for the unclaimed sibling spots. My over abundance of creative CS ideas is killing me. But I'm being realistic. One character will take all my focus and time.

I think limiting to like 2-4 per person would be fine with me. No need to change the time.
