I have never tried my favorite mutant superhero team before, so it's been a thought. Plus the shenanigans with The Hand would be great. I also want to try Karai again and that'd give us a villain POV within The Hand.
Walter Kovacs, 35 (b. 1933) Vigilante based in NEW YORK Active since approximately AUTUMN 1955
It is 1968, and Rorschach terrorizes the streets of New York. This version of the violent vigilante has him never meet Nite Owl II, the man who would temper his homicidal tendencies, and thus slides more into a darker, less stable personality. It is because of this that Rorschach has become less of a potential ally and more of a serious threat to the superhero community. Untempered by the supposed benevolence of the Watchmen, I'm planning to let Rorschach's dark side take full control. He will serve as a clear antagonist in many of the story arcs in this universe. Rorschach will also still retain his extreme far-right political tendencies, an interesting trait in the mostly leftist mood of the 60s.
This version of Rorschach will have been born in the 1930s, a few years before his Watchmen counterpart, to allow for him being more experienced at an earlier time. In this universe, the Minutemen were formed during the First World War and dwindled out in the second, due to the success of Captain America. The rampant scandals and failures surrounding the Minutemen initially gave non-powered superheroes a bad name, which led to a need for the Super Soldier Serum to create more effective defenders of the peace. Batman’s success in the 1960s gave an elderly Captain Metropolis hope to restore the golden age of superheroes without powers, but due to old age and interpersonal issues, the Minutemen were unable to reform successfully. The only Minuteman to pass on their mantle to a younger superhero was Hollis Mason, who granted Dan Dreiberg permission to take on the title of Nite Owl in 1963.
Walter Kovacs was born in 1933 in Manhattan, New York, to an abusive prostitute mother. After attacking two teenagers on the street, Walter was brought to the Lillian Charlton Home for Problem Children in 1943, where he became extremely skilled in gymnastics, boxing, and literature. In 1951, Walter left the home to be an unskilled laborer in a garment factory. In 1955, Kitty Genovese was murdered (unlike 1964 in our world) as her neighbors looked on in apathy. Having prepared a dress for her that she rejected, Walter felt a personal connection to Genovese’s plight. In the same year, Rorschach killed his first criminal. Eight years later, he was mistaken by Nite Owl II for the very criminal he was hunting down. Nite Owl severely injured Rorschach, and because of this, the two never teamed up.
1912 - Hooded Justice saves a woman from a rapist on the Titanic and helps in the evacuation hours later.
1914 - The Minutemen are formed, and the original lineup consists of Captain Metropolis, Silk Spectre, Hooded Justice, Nite Owl, Silhouette, Dollar Bill, Mothman and The Comedian.
1917 - As America enters the First World War, the Minutemen begin operations on the Western Front. However, due to faulty publicity and the inflated ego of some of the members, they are not very successful at home or in Europe.
1929 - The Black Tuesday Crash and subsequent Great Depression sparks a rise in criminal activity, but by now the Minutemen have been reduced to mere costumed street thugs.
1941 - Captain Metropolis eyes opportunity in World War II, but Captain America's arguably better success outdoes the efforts of the Minutemen, who are soon forgotten in the following decades.
1961 - An elderly Nelson Gardner attempts to reunite the team in the wake of Batman's success, but old age and interpersonal problems prevent the 'Crimebusters' from becoming a reality. Gardner dies a year later.
1963 - Dan Dreiberg takes on the title of Nite Owl II. On his first mission, he accidentally injures Rorschach.
Daniel Thomas Rand-Kai, AGE 19 (b. April 1st 1949) Vigilante based in New York City Active since approximately Two Days Ago
This version will probably be fairly similar to the baseline comics in most respects, with a few tweaks to the cosmology and history that I'll unveil as I go along. I've done a lot of takes on Iron Fist in various RPs, so for this one I kind of just wanted to pick up with the basics more or less at a beginning that I haven't been able to use until now. Specifically, with an Iron Fist who's fresh out of K'un-L'un, forced on the run after being accused of the murder of Harold Meachum. I want to play a skilled but naive and inexperienced Iron Fist while contributing to a hopefully growing world of kung-fu action and a sort of nascent martial arts scene in 1968's New York. In otherwords I'm committed to providing all the mystical kung fu action I can while exploring and growing Danny as a character along with his place in the universe we're building and interacting with whatever characters I can justify.
For the most part I'll hopefully be developing a cast and a lot of the backstory as I go along but some basic things of note
1958-nine year old Danny Rand is taken in by the warrior monks of K'un-L'un after his family perishes in a mountain climbing 'accident' while touring the Himalayas. In actuality, they die at the hands of Wendell's business partner, Harold Meachum. Danny is adopted into the house of Kai by Lord Nu'an, the Yu-ti, leader of K'un-L'un.
1959-Ten-Year-Old Danny Rand convinces Lei Kung the Thunderer to begin training him in martial arts.
1968-The pathway to and from K'un-L'un aligns with the mortal realm once again. Danny Rand-K'ai gains the power of the Iron Fist by defeating Shou-Lao the Undying, but leaves K'un-L'un in order to pursue vengeance against Harold Meachum.
K'un-Lun-Daniel Rand-Kai's adopted home, K'un-Lun is an ancient and mythical city whose dimension only overlaps with Earth once every ten years. While legendary for its' martial arts among those who know of its' existence, K'un-Lun is also a place of great mystical and occult importance as it is in truth one of the Seven Cities of Heaven, seven locations that form a nexus for all the world's chi and serve as a mirror to the world itself, collectively known as the Heart of Heaven. K'un-Lun is a place of magic and wonders in many ways. A tree whose fruit grants everlasting life, Immortal Sorcerer-Kings, dragons both great and small and ancient technologies and arcane artifacts lost to mankind for ages are all things residents of K'un-Lun hardly spare a second glance at. However in many other respects K'un-Lun is much like ancient China, especially for the common folks who are not immortal but live much as their ancestors have for untold centuries.
H'ylthri Jungles-When K'un-Lun is not connected to the mortal world, it is often surrounded by dense and wild jungles more vibrant and ravenous than any known on Earth. Apart from numerous strange plants and creatures the primary inhabitants of these jungles are the H'ylthri, a race of sentient plants that are uniformly powerfully telepathic and also capable of creating clones of other sentient beings given enough time. The H'ylthri hate K'un-Lun with a passion and desire it and its' peoples to be swallowed up by the jungles. Danny once spent considerable time stranded in the H'ylthri Jungles due to an accident during his training and described it as the toughest environment he has ever experienced.
Rand Incorporated- a multinational conglomerate headquartered in New York and founded by Danny's father Wendell-Rand'Kai and his business partner Harold Meachum.
Allies
Lei-Kung the Thunderer-an Immortal of K'un-Lun and Danny's primary instructor in the martial arts, Lei-Kung trained not only Iron Fist but all the warriors of K'un-Lun past and present and is a martial artist, warrior and leader with thousands upon thousands of years of experience. He was also one of Danny's primary mentors and caretakers from the age of eight or nine until he was about nineteen and is one of the closest things Danny has to a father figure.
Yu-Ti the August Personage in Jade/Nu'An-another Immortal and the ruler of K'un-Lun. The current holder of the title Yu-Ti is Nu'An, a powerful sorcerer and mystic who also happens to be Danny's uncle. Nu'an allegedly rules K'un-Lun with benevolent wisdom along with the four Dragon Kings, but he has occasionally shown darker and more pragmatic tendencies though he maintains all that he does is for the good of both K'un-Lun and the mortal world.
Potential Enemies
Ward and Joy Meachum-Though Harold is dead, his children survive and believe Danny is his murderer. In addition to alerting the authorities, they've put a bounty on his head and hired teams of mercenaries to hunt for him.
In addition, I'd like to work with Gowi and also Daredevil's player to incorporate elements like The Hand, Fu Manchu's Si-Fan, the Golden Dragon Triads and the League of Asassins as possible enemies for Danny, along with collaboration with Daredevil, obviously.
List previous posts for reference of your writing ability. Important.
While I love the addition of Lady Shiva, I can't help but think she'd more than likely hit a lot of the same story beats as Shang-Chi. Assassins, martial arts goodness, being an Asian during the time of the Yellow Peril and the Red Menace, maybe even a Triad or two. Not to mention this means I probably have to throw out the idea of Fu Manchu sending her after him!
In addition, I haven't found much time to workshop Shang-Chi in the past few days as I've got other commitments and what not (and I don't want Ethan to murder me.), but it seems like 1968's got more than enough chopsocky shenanigans in store that it won't need the comic book version of Bruce Lee. That'll show me for giving my friends false hope in the form of half-joking skeleton sheets!
Now I need to go pester Gowi about the other RPs he's running.
I see nothing really principally wrong with Apollo or Rogue, I also like the effort you put in in not only matching my CS template but also keeping it in line with your color code for Rogue.
Obviously the CS formatting needs a good modification, but there’s some other things to look at such as the inclusion of Namor, a rather important marque character in Marvel Comics. I like the shift of Magneto’s politics and your interpretative concept. As I mentioned before, all of Magneto’s children fall under legacy rules, so if anyone comes up with interest in Polaris or Scarlet Witch let me know how that discussion goes. Remove Namor and fix the formatting and it’s fine.
I like this despite my preference for Lady Shiva being a member of Ra’s League of Shadows/Assassins typically—but this is a pretty good spin that provides conflict with not only the dark knight but also Black Canary. I don’t see many issues with it, so it’s pretty good.
I think you might want to swap out Killer Croc, or at least read/talk to @Bounce what he’s doing with the character as a central part of one of his story chapters. As a Batman legacy I feel it pertinent to make sure we have no conflict with what Croc is up to. That aside, I don’t see any particular issues and would accept it eagerly.
I’m not sure how I feel about this one, but I’m going to trust you know what you want to do with this arc—especially if a real Captain America shows up during the course of the story.
