Thanks. What's the weapon?

Claymore, it benefits from both STR and DEX, you need 16 STR and 10 Dex to wield it.

If you're going pure Dex (no points in STR,) the best weapon is the great scythe.

That's going to be hell, you're not going to get Soapstone help which you really need, and you won't be able to summon people who will just wreck fights for you.

Agreed.

Invasions are not that common in the game. Though I will say I experienced most of it in the first few levels.
Messages on the ground, when they're not trolling, are extremely useful and build up the collective knowledge you need to know to get through an area or get a good item, shortcut, etc.

Furthermore, there's a couple bosses that almost everyone will go through the pain of finding an online partner to fight, because they're that difficult to beat.

Can you play offline? On my PC, the game refuses to save unless I'm online/have a GFWL account.

Cool! Does it slow you down? I mean, I'm fine with power at the cost of other things (defense), unless my speed is too drastically reduced.

I am actually playing on a console... and, I'm still fine with toughing it out if I have to.

Another tip: Take any Firekeeper Souls you get and use them to Reinforce your Estus Flask. You can reinforce by using the Firekeeper below the Firelink Shrine, the one in Anor Londo, and the Chaos Covenant leader. Reinforced flasks stretch the healing further

Also, I play Dark Souls offline by just unplugging my connection until it hits main menu so it forces offline mode. Don't know how to do it on consoles since i have Prepare to Die on PC

Soapstones are the most important aspect of the game. Use yours to get summoned into somebody else's world -- it's a no-risk opportunity to grab free souls and humanity, and it gives you a chance to see what someone else is doing to progress through the level/beat the boss. Alternatively if you HAVE humanity, you can summon someone else as a 'white phantom' and they'll help you through the level.

If you find a glowing-orange soul sign, summon that person immediately! They're the 'sunbros,' and they're there for the sole purpose of making your life better. They'll guide you to all the hidden items, they'll beat up any invaders, they'll disarm any traps, they'll know the best ways to take on tough enemies -- they're awesome, and you want their help. It's usually worth risking an invasion if it means you can summon a helper.

here's a co-op guide with some general etiquette and some tips to help you find a good-guy phantom.

I just started playing last week, no online stuff, and I've been able to handle everything just fine. There are NPC guys you can summon for help on a lot of bosses, and they've been plenty of help for the... actually, just one boss that I couldn't tackle solo (area boss for Anor Londo, and I almost got it on my one solo attempt after a couple assisted ones, then summoned the guy and wrecked it hard that time), the other ones that I summoned NPCs for I ended up dying on those attempts and ended up beating them by myself.

It's really just a matter of learning attack patterns, playing cautiously, and picking your gear for the encounter rather than just sticking to one set for everything.

Heh, thanks for the advice. It's nice to hear something like that from someone who just recently picked it up.

The one case I always think of when talking about the use of co-op is Ornstein and Smough. Probably the most infamous boss battle I'm aware of, to the net, and it's the most common boss fight I see get people to ask for fellow players to get on and help with in a forum.

Going solo's not impossible, by any means, it can just be a giant pain the ass.

You'd like the Dragon God from Demon's Souls, I think. Unless you're being sarcastic, cuz..... most people.... didn't like Bed of Chaos.... But hey, that bitch was scary.

Yeah, that was the one I used an NPC helper on. Definitely a kick in the dick if you run in there unaware of what awaits you, which I did thinking it would just be a boss fight like any of the others before that. I died less than 15 seconds after finishing the cinematic. It was hilariously sad.

Yeah, I could see that being horrible if you don't know what's going on, largely because of that run back from Firelink Shrine through a bunch of ghosts and Darkwraiths. Took me one attempt to figure out what was up and how best to damage them with what I had, then I ran in there with a totally different gear layout and torched them all with Pyromancy without any problems.

What class did you choose to start with, jorick?

I chose Warrior. Starting class doesn't matter much past the tutorial though, so your class selection isn't very important. It's rather easy to level up a bunch of allot stat points to things other than what you started with good numbers in, such as taking a Warrior and then building him into a magic user by dumping a couple dozen stat points in Attunement and Intelligence or Faith.
