Following the Great War and the Collapse of the Austrio-Hungarian Empire, many small nations were formed in Central and Eastern Europe. One such nation was the small country of Borovia, on the border of Austria, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. The fledgling nation attempted to found some semblance of democracy, but was quickly overtaken by capitalist endeavors, with factory and land owners holding massive sway over the now-puppet government. This was most apparent in the capital city of Borovia, Asnio. In Asnio, one man holds much of the land and industry, and thus controls the central government. His name, among the peasants of the city, is abandoned in favor of a sinister title: The Robber Baron.

In order to hold tight his rule over the country, and quell any protests, strikes, or riots, the Robber Baron has organized a large paramilitary force, known colloquially as the Blackshirts, for their signature black military uniforms.

Now the year is 1920, and the paupers and factory workers of Asnio have had enough. Massive crowds of starving, desperate citizens flood the streets, and the word 'revolution' passes from person to person in hushed tones. The Baron has had enough, and has issued the standing order for his Blackshirts to crush this attempt at revolt, no matter the cost.

Welcome, one and all, to the Blackshirts of Borovia. In this RP, unlike others, we do not play the downtrodden, vengeful peasants, seeking the freedom of democracy and worker's safety. No, we play members of the Baron's own paramilitary police, armed with military weapons and technology that far outclasses that which even the richest citizens can muster. Your reasons for joining are your own, and you may not necessarily be a bad person, but you've been caught up in a sea of death and destruction, and its up to you to calm the storm.

The Blackshirt's prime forces consist of standard infantry formations, armed with bolt-action rifles and the occasional machine gun. Officers generally have their choice of handgun and an infantry saber. The Blackshirts also outfit a cavalry unit to act as a fast-response force, though their usage in the city is limited. They're generally outfitted with a carbine rifle, and the officers with a heavy cavalry saber and handgun of choice.

Civilian vehicles are regularly appropriated for usage in transporting forces, with little compensation, if any, given to the original owners. Common vehicles found in the care of the Blackshirts include cargo trucks(sometimes outfitted with a machine gun), regular cars fitted with steel plates to act as armor, and tractors fitted with large trailers.

Weapons used by the Blackshirts:

Other Weapons are generally issued according to specific situations, including heavier machine guns for vehicle mounting or static defense.

Rules:
1. You know the drill for this one. Basically just do what I tell you in regards to the game, and you'll be fine.
2. Graphic content is to be expected, but beyond violence and profanity, keep it implied and behind a fade to black(wink wink, nudge nudge)
3. Given the time period, and the region, I expect some semblance of accuracy. Bohemian/German-style names are a must, for example. However, even though this takes place following the end of World War 1, I don't want to see everyone making a grizzled, merciless Great War veteran. I wanna see a broad blend of characters from different walks of life.
4. If your character can afford it(and that's a big if), or you can provide a reasonable backstory for owning it, I'm willing to allow someone to hold their own weapons in place of the issued ones, particularly melee ones. However, don't go around asking for a personal machine gun on top of a rifle and a pistol, limit to one Primary-type weapon, and one sidearm, as well as a melee weapon.
5. Have fun, and show those unruly lepers who's boss!

@Lady SeluneIf you can provide a convincing reason for your character having one, then sure. On that note, I realize I forgot a history section to the character sheet, so I've fixed that in the intro post.

@Lady SeluneWell, seeing as you're the only person from the interest check to even show up, and nobody else seems too interested in this, then go ahead. My point wasn't that nobody could play a veteran, I just didn't want the whole group being nothing but Great War vets armed to the teeth with non-standard gear.

Aight. He'll have non-standard gear, namley the Mauser Gewehr 98 and a Luger, and his helmet, but other than that, normal stuff.

Are there lesser combat divisions than the Blackshirts in the Robber Baron's armed forces? Because it'd be great to play as a guy who's just graduated from, say, the Redshirts, and is now under the mistaken belief that he's less likely to die due to being "one of the elites" or what have you.

@BCTheEntityThere's just the Blackshirts, but they do have 'Conscript' units that act as a mix of on-the-job-training and cannon fodder, so he could have recently been elevated from that.

@DepressedSoviet I strongly recommend the conscripts be possessed of red outfits to identify them... or better yet, maybe this guy recently defected from the Red Army, doing his best to avoid Russian civil war in favour of Borovian civil oppression. Better life expectancy and payment, or something. I assume the Robber Baron doesn't mind hiring defected foreigners for his army of Blackshirts?

@BCTheEntityThe Baron actually encourages foreign mercenaries, less emotional attachment to the citizens, so go ahead and go with the latter idea.

@DepressedSoviet Red Army defector it is. Money's probably involved in his decision making as well, so being paid to act as a mercenary for a corrupt mob boss probably works for him. I'll get a sheet out sometime soon.

@13orgThe Kar98k doesn't exist yet, wasn't slated for production until 1934, so no. As for the Mosin-Nagant, @BCTheEntity already has a character from Russia planned, and the only way I'd allow a Mosin would be a character with that backstory, and I don't want to double up, so that's also a no.

@DepressedSoviet

Right! forgot that we are in 1920.

So a Mauser Gewehr 98 would be ok, right?
(produced in 1895)

@13orgIt WOULD, but @Lady Selune is playing a former member of the Freikorps, and bringing a Gewehr 98, so again, I wanna avoid doubling up. Now it should be noted that the Mannlicher M1895 was the Austrian portion of the Austrio-Hungarian army's service rifle, known as the Gewehr M.95, and is similar to the Gewehr 98, but with a faster straight-pull bolt, and a very similar bayonet. So playing a native might actually be to your advantage.

Or you could claim the machine gunner role before the others get here. ;)

@13orgWe have Riflemen. Nobody's playing an actual sniper/marksman specifically, as that role isn't a military standard at this point, and outfitting people specifically to take marksman roles, especially in an urban force like what the Blackshirts are, isn't exactly ideal or worth it for the cost.

@DepressedSoviet Now, since you bring it up, I wasn't planning on my guy having any non-standard equipment... to my understanding, though, most variations of the Mosin-Nagant are reasonably usable as sniper rifles, with the Dragoon Rifle in particular sharing identical dimensions to the later M1891/30 that was used by snipers in WW2. My thinking is, if my guy is a defector, he'd probably have stolen his weapon as well, and if he took on the role of cavalry sniper sharpshooter in both the Red Army and the Blackshirts, that gives perfect justification for him to have a Dragoon Rifle. (EDIT: Or he's just a mounted rifleman whatever.)

Whilst we're on the topic, what Russian pistols were around at the time? I may or may not give my character one of those as well, but I'd need to know what my options are.

@BCTheEntityThe only Russian MILITARY sidearm at this time was the Nagant M1895 revolver, notable in being one of the earliest suppressed weapons, as well as one of the only suppressible revolvers. Now a suppressor is a bit much, but the revolver is fine.

As far as sniper rifles go: I rather want to avoid anyone being a specifically SNIPER, as people tend to have a massive hard-on for rushing to claim that spot, hence why I nixed the idea from the roles list. I'm not opposed to a cavalryman who acts more like a mounted marksman, maneuvering into positions for an advantageous shot, but I want to avoid any actual snipers, if you get what I'm trying to say.

@DepressedSoviet

Just wondering, trench guns and submachine guns would be extremely effective on close-quarter engagements which are probably going to happen a lot, yes?
