@Archmage MC: You see, the series you've mentioned have rules. They have deaths. The have wins and losses. I don't even like a couple of them very much but they do have that.

What you've described peels back the ability structure the GM has established entirely. There's plenty of variety in what has been supplied.

@Archmage MC...Honestly, I'm not entirely sure where you're getting any of this from. It seems like you're just trying to force the GM to make a lot of unnecessary changes to suit what you want, rather than trying to work with the framework provided.

I mean yeah, GMs aren't infallible and sometimes make mistakes (the stuff @Zero Hex brought up, for example), but uh... Yeah. There's only really a limit on "variety" if you're trying to force something that doesn't work with the guidelines.

@VitaVitaAR I'm not saying stuff like that should happen. But having it so watered down that you drastically limit variety for the sake of 'balance' between all the PCs seems silly. (besides, someone with a super strong barrier as their only ability makes perfect sense. One Piece has such a character and they still make it work well. Yeah you need to balance that exact ability, but its super easy to do considering how those rules are set)

But remove that whole "this is One Piece/Naruto/Bleach/ext... all in one" concept which is not what the OP is going for at this rate, and choose something more tame like what @Zero Hex said and pretty much all my issues with this go away.

Where does the OP say that it's all those shows in one? The OP actually lays out My Hero Academia, Soul Eater and Naruto as the biggest influences, and I know at least Naruto out of those three keeps thing constrained to chakra. Sure, chakra can do a lot of stuff, but you're not going to see somebody fighting in a mech suit in Naruto.

Plus, the different power types in the OP already allow for a wide variety of stuff. I don't see the point in making a bunch of exceptions so people can play their special snowflake characters that don't really fit in the setting.

I feel like the problem here is that people have different perceptions and ideas of what they feel like shounen is. I've honestly seen this kind of debate happen quite a lot, it can be a difficult thing to define properly for a lot of people and everyone draws the line at different places. The way I think of shounen is not the same as the way you think of shounen, and so an RP made to reflect the way I see shounen may not fit with the way you see it. I've listened to everyone's complaints and have been trying to be reasonable and alter my rules, but I feel like what some people here seem to be asking for is a complete upheaval of the RP, which is just simply not going to happen. If what I've already changed isn't enough, then maybe this RP simply isn't for you

For what it's worth, I do intend for the characters to learn more powerful attacks and get stronger as the RP goes on

In all fairness, Naruto did kinda get a little ridiculous around the Shippuden era (though I guess that's also the part of the show where most people seem to agree that it went downhill for that reason, me included)

This is certainly turning out a lot more Low Shonen than I thought when I first read through it.

The main starting picture. Referencing Hunter x Hunter/Naruto, ext... I understand no DBZ, thats its own special thing.

@VitaVitaAR

Why are we arguing when we're both agreeing on the same thing? My argument is why is this super restrictive for a shonen RP that invokes the ideas of the shonen anime that have massive variety?

@Rin

Basically tring to figure out why the GM is invoking these big names, but instead is being super restrictive instead of embracing these universes.

@Archmage MC: The RP already has a lot of room for variety and the GM has given their final word.

@Archmage MC
The picture is literally just Shonen Jump. You're also not particularly agreeing with anyone. You came in wanting to actively make character risk nil (granted PVP is iffy in these games but it absolutely always is by virtue of a lack of resolution mechanics) and started pushing for a gear change into being "over the top like OPM" saying that's what shonen is when there's plenty of works that aren't like that.

I've been pushing for a wider range of character variety, and I still feel that the setup allows for it while keeping some coherence within the world rather than let anyone do whatever. The GM is doing a base shonen thing that perfectly lines up with plenty of the genre's major works and it doesn't necessarily have to embrace other aspects of it.

@Zero Hex I really think the problem is that even if I agree with them, VitaVitaAR, J and Rin will find something to complain about what I'm doing anyway. Kinda why this argument has gone on for so long.

You give very good arguments and don't try to keep the argument going when I agree with you.

I would provide more input, but par the course, thjs discussion has become asinine.

My advice to you, @Archmage MC, is to realize that you should really stop acting like the world revolves around you. And I'm talking about in general since I seen you do this a lot.

@Mr Allen J I only seem to do that when you, rin and Vita are in the topic as well. Theres something going on here beyond this topic and we really should resolve this issue. We all seem to just hate each other it feels like even when we are basically all on the same page, so we should sort that bit out so this crap doesn't keep happening.

Mr. GM, around what age are you looking for, as far as mentors go?

My main issue is the correlation of the power with some intense emotion.

Like, say you got an Augmenter who has like, hair tentacles.

Does that come from, I dunno, an intense fear of haircuts?

Alright, so I'm gonna start making the OOC now, and it's gonna be as it is right now without any more changes. If there's anyone who doesn't like the way the current RP is built, then I'm sorry but you just might have to move onto a different RP

I'm not too picky about the age, as long as it's an age that would make sense for a teacher

To be fair, death means almost nothing in most shonen animes

Very wrong. One Piece: death is permanent. Fullmetal Alchemist: death is permanent. Naruto: death is mostly permanent, and exceptions to this rule take away the revived person's autonomy. Toriko: death is permanent. Rurouni Kenshin, Basilisk, Berserk, Gundam, Kenichi... the list goes on. Death is perfectly meaningful in most shounen anime, and stuff like Dragon Ball Z is the exception.
