Literally just got home after my parent's surprise vacation for my Sister's birthday. It was all very last minute and wholly inconvenient if you ask me. Now I've got a bunch of catch-up to do.

Pretty much this. ^^

EDIT:

Took me far too long to get this post up and it felt rushed towards the end. I'll have to do better next time.

G M A N N O U N C E M E N T:

WEEK 04: As the first round of secondary plots are coming to an end, let's discuss antagonists. So far there hasn't been anything too serious in the RP but what are your thoughts on antagonists? What makes a good villain for you? Do you like them unhinged, do you like them cold and calculating? Do you prefer an NPC villain or one who is directly portrayed by another player? What's good about being bad?

It depends really. In terms of this Roleplay, Villains don't necessarily have to be of the superpowered variety (though of course, I expect there to be some). A villain who has control without having mind powers, a villain who has strength without it being super, a villain who is smart without the hypergene is, in my opinion, something more sinister. Those working behind the scenes are some of the craziest. Especially when they don't appear to be villainous.

I would prefer a player villain, only because it takes one person to use the villain NPC in their own way without regard to the other players.

I feel like I should probably respond to this, seeing as I'm playing the only Player-Character 'villain' so far. I guess that also answers my preference over NPC & PC villains. I just feel as if player-villains are allowed to be more dynamic as opposed to NPCs because the writer has to react to everyone else whilst also working towards his own interests. An NPC doesn't need to worry about other players so much, since they're generally given a plan by the GM from the start and won't often deviate from that plan because the direction of the roleplay is usually dictated by the GM through the use of NPC villains. As a player-villain, I can't just start blowing shit up or doing things that might affect the RP at large without prior consent so I'm forced to play more reactively.

As far as good villains go, I think they have to be able to trigger some kind of emotional response from the viewer/reader, whether it's sympathy, anger or humour. Emotional attachment is pivotal to whether a villain can be considered 'good'. The Joker, for instance (and since everyone else is using him as an example), is a hilarious villain for me. I'm attached to him because I find what he does funny. Not so much in a good way, but in a way that so far removed from what I'd ever do. I laugh at him because he's so outrageous. That emotional response he commands from me is what makes him a good villain.

If I had to choose between unhinged and calculating, I think I'd go calculating based on my own character. I mean, I don't really class him as a fully-fledged villain just yet. I don't think he's quite reached that status. I've merely placed him in a villainous role, which is kinda what I wanted to do with him so you guys could witness his growth over the course of the roleplay. Speaking of emotional attachment earlier, that is what I want for Tobias eventually. But in order to do so, I need you guys to see his journey. And I believe if he were simply an unhinged villain, he wouldn't be able to earn that attachment as well he would if he were cold, calculating and willing to work behind the scenes.

How bout we go with SupCom?

My preferred RTS. It's like Starcraft but APM takes a back seat to actual strategy. Also Ghetto Gunships

I've got a present for everyone. Working on an IC update currently, there will be an advancement in the main plot but if that's not your cup of tea here's the next batch of subplots to be thinking over.

G M A N N O U N C E M E N T:

DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN:
Having escaped capture at the hands of Joseph Thoreau and Vernon Thompson, the accused arsonist, 'Nina' remains at large. As a result of her actions, the Michaels Nuclear Power Plant was compromised and has been taken off line until the damage can be repaired. At this time, a blackout has rolled over the Northern and Eastern sections of Crescent City, plunging them into darkness without heat or hydro. From Pointe Bordeaux, to Shasta Bay, up through New Lilith to Jethrull, the city is in darkness with strain on generators and outside power sources keeping the South West region active.

THIS IS WAR
The Familia Fierros are preparing for war against the De Vitis Crime Syndicate. As Raul De Vitis’ number one enforcer, the Russian was allowed to escape with Dante Del Fierro in toe, Francesca Del Fierro has put a hit on not only the Russian’s head but also that Raul De Vitis’ daughter Veronica. In an effort to capitalize on the hostility, the Welcome Crime and Third Street Roughnecks have aligned themselves with the organized crime families, gaining access to the arms they desire after watching their brothers cut down in cold blood by an unknown woman.

MONSTER
Something is feeding off the people of Larissa. Over the past week, several victims have been found completely drain of blood, their throats ripped out. No one wants to voice the first thing that comes to mind, but the whispers at the crime scenes tell the same tale. Many believe a vampire has come to make its home in Larissa although the police refuse to take these claims seriously. One man is said to have survived the attack, however the attack has rendered him mute, or at least unwilling to speak. The man now resides in the Murdoch Mental Hospital while the rumors continue to swirl and at the very least a killer is still at large.

I know a fair amount of under appreciated games. If you like horror type of games and don't mind playing one from 2005, I'd recommend Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. One of the few things that does Lovecraftian horror right. You can get it on steam for $4.99.

@Lord Wraith Looks good, trying to get a few ideas on what to do.

A town plunged in darkness usually means an increase in crime, not to mention it would help Gavin remain hidden and allow him to observe the area unsolicited as he formulates a plan.

A relativly small crime organization getting their hands on some serious munitions (and by mentally immature teens no less) would be disastrous for the populace. Gavin would need to take care to avoid fatally injuring someone, especially considering having a gun aimed at you is not a pleasant experience.

And lastly, Vampire or guy trying to misdirect the blame? Vampire makes the most sense but, does that make other fantastical beasts such as werewolves a possibility? Probably not vampire, insufficient evidence to conclude with any amount of certainty. Need more information to conclusively answer. What about man? Is it possible to drain victims of blood using readily available methods? If then, what use would one have for blood if not for sustenance. Some individuals believe drinking blood from young adults/teens can extend ones lifespan, perhaps this individual thinks the same. Would require all victims to be before a certain age, or at least look young. Otherwise need to discard theory. Alternate possibility- for the fun of it. Individual's sanity may be questionable, a reason for the deed could be artificially crafted and appear reasonable to someone who loses logic. Theory possible, unlikely however. Again insufficient evidence. Conclusion- unable to determine likely culprit. likely to be a human (not vampire) for reasons unknown.

Oh shit. Eli is definitely going to investigate this one, fearing that it is someone from her own world. Drained of blood and killed thereafter mirrors Eli's style quite a bit in that this person is being careful and 'tidy'. However she'll consider the person a liability for her overall goal to prevent Vampirism from running rampant in this world if the person left a survivor.

Edit:

Wait a minute. Eli eats a lot in Larissa which means this could be kind of bad. Also wait, since Eli has been draining blood and snapping the necks of her victims for about a month now in Larissa. So would rumors of her killings also be circulating then?

If Vernon doesn't end up doing this one, he'll end up doing the main story.
Which will mean it's finally time to use this image properly:

Which, let me be real, he's probably done a couple of times already since it's so close to where he lives.
Every day he wakes up, yells at the cloud, then turns on the Price is Right.
