Name: Hades Bela
Handle: Mr. Bela
Gender: Male
Age: 24
Personality: Hades is many things, but one of the things you can say with certainty that he is not, is thoughtful and kind. Hades is broody, and a man of few words, and the few he does speak are condescending and reek of self importance. A lot of this has to do with his family background, as growing up rich and spoiled has done nothing to help his already ignorant personality. It is not uncommon for him to ridicule or belittle someone for doing things he views "beneath" him. This can be credited to his upbringing, as his parents imprinted him with the idea that he must be perfect, and anyone who was not like him was beneath him. In typical fashion, he refuses to give "handouts" to those in need, instead citing that one has to work for the type of success that he has. Ironically, he inherited millions of dollars from his father.
Due to the patronizing way he acts, Hades has always found it difficult to find companionship not only in the way of friendships, but also in the romantic sense. It's not that he isn't attractive -- far from it, in fact -- rather that his cold personality is rather off putting for others. This, for the most part, has fit Hades just fine --
I'd rather not find myself in the company of such barbaric people anyways -- but it has evidentially led to a lack of understanding of what true friendship is. Of course he is by no means isolated from humanity, as he meets with business affiliates and butlers and so forth, but he has never experienced a true human relationship in which the other party was interested for reasons other than monetary gain.
Bio: The Bela lineage is a family with ties that go all the way back to Gothic Europe, and even then they were a prominently rich family. In the 1600s, they were a family of nobles, some of whom were the most famous alchemists in Europe, with several chemical discoveries to their name. Legend had it, however, that the real reason behind the Bela family's success was due to their worship of an dark being. It was told in old tales of legend that one of the original members of the Bela family, Lazarus Bela, accidentally summoned a demon from the underworld in their lab one night in a failed alchemic experiment. It was rumored that Lazarus Bela cut a deal with this underworld being that in exchange for eternal worship of this creature, the Bela family would in turn be eternally successful. This demon's name? Dark Necrofear. According to historians, these are all just preposterous rumors which were created in retrospect to explain how a family could remain successful for a little over four hundred years. However, it is widely believed by the public that these rumors are true, and that in fact, the current heir of the Bela Corporation, Hades Bela is a demon worshipper himself. When the Bela Corporation Press Correspondent was asked about such accusations, he refused to comment on the matter. So who's to say whether the Bela Corporation's success is credited to the supervision of a dark entity? It seems as though the public may never know the real truth.
In any case, it is true however that the Bela family has experienced good fortune for well over four hundred years. Throughout the years they have remained wealthy and important, and today are one of the largest modern-day pharmaceutical companies in the world, and in fact the largest one in the western hemisphere. Hades grew under the supervision of his mother, Acantha Bela, as his father, Abraxas Bela, was always far too busy with his work to pay any mind to his son. His mother was not kind nor forgiving, and groomed Hades to become the perfect child. She would constantly heap upon him loads of school work and educate him in what was "proper" and what was not. Hades rarely had time for an leisure activities, and most certainly had no time for any kind of friendship. At first Hades detested the way his childhood was going, however eventually he developed a sort of Stockholm syndrome and grew to agree with the idea that he must become perfect in order to run his father's company. Naturally, since Hades was told to be perfect in every way, this included mastering the art of duel monsters, a game that was gripping the nation. This became one of the few activities which Hades enjoyed bettering himself in, and it developed a passion for the game. However, his childhood was consumed with filling the shoes of his father, a father whom he never even talked to.
Eventually, at age 56, Abraxas Bela died from a heart attack induced by overwork. This thrust the young Bela into the spotlight at the ripe age of 22 to run his father's multi billion dollar company. However, just before his father died, his father spoke to him for what was one of the few times he did so in his entire life. His father told him the truth about the success of their company; the rumors were indeed true. The responsibility of caring and worship of the Dark Necrofear entity, along with his father's company, was Hades'. When his father died, he passed on not only his company, but his Guardian as well. Hades' Guardian was the spirit of the original ancestor who had summoned the fiend in the first place. Throughout the remainder of his life, Hades would spend time at the Sabbath of each week performing a ritual and offering some creature, perhaps a goat or a sheep, to the Dark Necrofear in order to keep the underworld entity content and keep his company prosperous.
Why would a man who has more money than he could ever ask for enter a duel tournament? Certainly not for the money. As a matter of fact, Hades entered the tournament because these rumors of the truth behind his company's success have heavily damaged their reputation and thus stock. Economic advisors at the company have advised Hades to enter and win the competition in order to boost the company's image.
