@WiseDragonGirl
I'll gladly have Donny take hits, but I don't see how it makes sense for him to simply watch as Fortune winds up and chucks a sword, and it isn't a special circumstance neither. I could give you a genuine, legitimate list of posts in my history of playing as Donny where he simply shoots somebody if they give away their intent. I've had him shoot players mid sentence, shoot them the moment they present any kind of threat, shoot them just for being suspicious.
Sure Donny can get hurt, but I'd be breaking character if I started permitting him to make stupid mistakes.
Okay, staying in character is absolutely a must, but if you know the blade is already on its way because it has been described in the RP you could have opted to go along with the course of the RP and think of a solution what wouldn't change what had happened and still be in character. Like make Donny look at someone else for just a second and then move out of the way or shoot Fortune the moment you noticed he threw the sword. There were other opponents Donny could have his attention focused on for just a moment, especially since Fortune wasn't close to Arriet at the time she was shot, when Leona first appeared she positioned herself between Fortune and the others. I mean, Donny is good, but he can't see everything at the same time, right? He's a excellent assassin and marksman, but with normal, human vision. He's not all-knowing or all-seeing and even the best can be surprised for the first time in their life when dealing with multiple opponents.
I think it would still be in character, after ending's Ariett's life you have to see if none of the others pose a direct threat before noticing a movement in the corner of your eye and quickly turn to see Fortune. That moment it takes to look at someone, notice a movement in your peripheral view (and hear the shouted prayer), turn to face Fortune and take aim could have been enough for the sword to be thrown. That would still allow Donny to shoot and even turn his body as the bullet left the barrel to avoid being impaled by the sword, because of his quick analytic abilities and good reflexes.
I know the reality of this RP is flexible and I understand the surprise interrupting revolver shot is his signature move. I just wanted to point out there was another way to deal with the situation without breaking character or changing the events. Or is what I described unrealistic for Donny?
For those concerned with the issue of how I described the blade's trajectory earlier:
Let it be. Wait for it.
In other news though: @Doc Doctor, you are allowed to post more than once between my own posts. You could have posted in regards to shooting at Fortune's arm prior to my own post.
In this case it's not a problem, since the contextual reality is flexible like that. Just something to bear in mind.
I will let it rest and wait and see what happens. I know that this RP is unlike others and that the RP can adjust to the event, but I needed to get this off my chest. I'm used to adjusting to the course of a RP and build on what people before me posted, I guess I like continuity and that I'm just not a fan of retconning. I hope you don't mind I spoke up about this.
