What are your thoughts on a "handsome"(lol) goblin
Go crazy. As long as they're not just like, a real-ass human painted green who is living among these goblins, you're fine.
@DracoLunaris Remember, stuff like resistances built up in the past life don't carry over.
Gifts will be pretty bad at the start, as stated above, so you'll have to cull some of the far. Namely, change this to just being able to ascertain characteristics of a plant, and even that will be fairly "hazy".
I know I said the OOC would be up tonight, but a fever's gotten the better of me so I'll be pushing that back to tomorrow.
@Moonlit SonataI did end up finding out that you were the original creator of this (upon investigating the copycat a few months ago). There was another user on this site that tried to start up this RP like three or four separate times, maybe even more, but I won't tag them or anything because I find them rather unsavory, and it turns out they're still more or less active on this site. If you'd like, I could PM their idenity to you, but I'm not so sure how much that matters to you.
I managed to find my original character that I made for the copycat, and I'm currently weighing between using it, or making a brand new one.
@Moonlit Sonata Here's the idea i have for an OC. Will fix whatever ya tell me i need to fix. I think her Gift might possibly be ok as well, but considering i am half asleep right now when making this app i will ask if you can help me fix her Gift up into an acceptable form if it isn't in a satisfactory state as of this point in time.
Name: Lyminia
Gender: Female
Appearance: Lyminia has some "highly attractive" features than any average female Goblin, which are very much distinct among Goblins and Goblin females. That does not mean she is attractive by the standards of any other creatures, though, so to enough other creatures she is probably still that ugly, four foot, green-skinned piece of work everyone else in the stupid tribe is.
Personality: When looking for a Goblin who works hard at what they put their mind to do and has a solid sense of determination, then Lyiminia is the goblin for you. If you are looking for someone to be the nanny or "mature adult" to help the "screw-ups" within a given group she is a part of, then do not bother trying to get her to do so unless she feels it interferes with her survival (and/or the survival of those others she places value on). And admirer of hard work and respecter of effort, she is not much of a fan of the "idiot kids who are all play and no work". Lyminia has some interest the earth and rocks below her feet, though this just happens to be an interest she has in this incarnation, and is not actually linked to the interests of her past life at all. She can be reliable and a good ally, but if you go off and do a lot of stupid things that endanger everyone she might just treat you like a "cold bitch" of some sort or let you die. Harsh, but that's how she is on the outside. She has a softer side somewhere inside of her, but is not one to let it out unless around someone she really care for.
Past Life History:
In her past life, Lyminia was some boring human woman named "Lyra" who had an obsession with clocks, geology, and time travel films. Her world was mundane and much like the real life modern day world in many respects, and not much of anything is notable when it comes to her life. Well, except that her father dabbled in experimental time travel science stuff. She grew up to become part of his research team on the admittedly stupid idea. They of course failed to create a machine that went back in time, but in the process she did manage to make a formula for trying to go "forward in time", applying it to a device she hooked up the silly experimental device up to a DeLorean. After trying to use said device to travel into the future, the effects of the device backfired and she literally aged herself and the car into dust in the process. Good job helping natural selection do its work, Lyra. Good job. At least she didn't have to pay back those terrorists she got the parts from to make the stupid device that killed her.
Gift:
Time Acceleration- This Gift allows its wielder to accelerate the flow of time on any other single targets other than themselves by a certain amount. This includes other living things, inanimate objects like stones and paintings, and even the very clothes the wielder of this gift is wearing. When this power is applied to living things or other objects that are in motion, this has the visual effect of seeming as if the affected target's speed has been "accelerated" somehow, though no additional momentum or speed is actually being gained by the affected target. Similarly, the additional effect of this "accelerated time" being applied to a target results in the target "aging" at a more rapid rate as well.
At this beginner, Goblin level, however, this Gift can only accelerate time by a small amount, enough to make it look like an arrow is flying a bit faster than a normal one, that a spear being thrown at a target is only somewhat faster than it would have been otherwise, and that a living thing is moving at a slightly faster rate. In regards to the "aging" aspect of this power, it ages targets by such a currently minuscule amount of time that is unnoticeable at this level of power.
This Gift is not some form of "time travel", however, and that is one important thing to note. Rather than "accelerating time to send a target farther into the future", this power in reality takes the form of "accelerating the flow of time specifically in regards to the affected target, with additional aging being applied to the target as a side effect".
Theoretically, at a high level this power could age targets into dust very rapidly unless they are somehow unable to physically age, though at lower levels is useful as a support ability.
Other: She has a personal passing fancy for precious jewels, so if she gets one somehow she will probably keep it unless she is in desperate need for cash. I wonder if this would factor in if she became a dragon of some kind down the line though. *shrugs* Who knows?
Alright, I made something that I think could be fairly interesting to use. I tried to make his skill fairly simple, but I don't know if it needs to be changed at all. The gist of it though, is that he can learn things quickly, and invent things more effectively.
Name:Deks
Gender: Male
Appearance: You're a green-skinned, four foot tall, ugly piece of work. His limbs are a bit thinner than the usual goblin's, though.
Personality: Deks thinks of the other goblins as simple things, the only things about them that are noteworthy are the actions they take. Otherwise, he simply disregards anything and everything about his peers. Sure, he may act civil, if he feels like it, but he truly doesn't care about his fellow goblins. He has made an entertaining "what-if game" for himself, where he randomly chooses a goblin and thinks about how they'd react to different things. Sometimes it is "what if that goblin fought someone," or maybe it is "what if that goblin got lost in the forest."
He usually spends his time with the "what-if game," but when he is not doing that, he is making simple contraptions that serve no purpose. Maybe he will put a board on a log to make a see-saw, or make a pulley with a tree branch and a rope. Doing so little else, though, has made him "socially-inept.
Past Life History: Dexter was a scientist, and a rather well known one at that. Sure, he was no Albert Einstein or Thomas Edison, but he had a noteworthy resume filled with his designs. His childhood was spent mostly in the low-class part of a somewhat large town, where he would try to get simple pieces of machinery from whatever may be laying around. When he went to college, he took classes on mechanics, data sciences, robotics, and other such subjects. His best invention, once he graduated college and got hired, was a machine called the IDTM, or the Instantaneous Data Transfer Machine. The machine transported information faster than anything else, which helped simplify the process of obtaining information from space. With the money made from NASA, who had bought his invention, he was able to live out the rest of his life comfortably doing what he loved.
Gift: As mentioned in the personality category, Deks has an inclination to invent things. He can only invent things using concepts he understands and has seen. When he sees new technology, so long as it is not too advanced for him, he can understand and apply the concepts the machine utilizes. Of course, this skill is extremely limited at the beginning, due to limited exposure to technology.
Finally got my character finished. Tried to keep it short and sweet, so hopefully everything looks good.
Name: Strenk
Gender: Male
Appearance: You're a green-skinned, four foot tall, ugly piece of work. Other then that, his only real distinguishing feature are his eyes. Rather than the normal goblin color, his iris’ are a bright, blood-like red.
Personality: The best way to describe Strenk is sociable. Admittedly he may come off as awkward or odd, but it’s the effort that really counts, right? He just wants to meet and interact with as many people as possible and make his voice heard. Additionally, Strenk isn’t big on arguments turning physical. If he can, he’d much rather talk things out and make friends. Of course while he realizes that he can't talk his way out of everything and will stand his ground if necessary, he won't be happy about it.
Past Life History: Pre-death, Steven Ikerson, was a audio engineer for a fairly large film production company. He did just about everything audio related, from recording to editing, though his real specialty was Foley work. He had an entire studio built just for sound effect creation, and with it could create just about any sound imaginable. While it didn’t lead to him building a fortune, he loved what he did and that was enough for him. By the time of his death, his name was in the credits of a vast number of films, shows, and various other types of media.
Gift: Mimicry The ability to hear and then mimic sounds that are heard, be it spoken word, animal sounds, or just the sound of rocks banging together. Being that it’s so weak at this time, this ability is limited to the small range that a newborn goblin has and is far from precise.
Other: Strenk really enjoys sweet things, such as candies. Not just eating them, but savoring them.
Here's my CS. Straight out of a school life anime.
Name: Kluuto
Gender: Female
Appearance: Has a more pointed pair of ears than your ordinary goblins. Sharper, narrower eyes as well. Also looks grumpy and haughty most of the time.
Personality: Just like how she looked when she was a human, and how she looks now as a goblin, she has a haughty and stand-offish attitude to her. She had a sharp gaze and she rarely smiled in front of others. Only when she was doing her own thing alone when you could usually find her smirking to herself. She also had a strong sense of justice. She would refuse to bend her own moral code to achieve her goals. She also hated losing.
Past Life History: She used to be a high school student before all of this happened, and she was pretty much the epitome of an honor student. She even became the student council president as a result. She was pretty indeed, but she was also infamous for being quite nagging to the other students, particularly those she deemed lazy and/or irresponsible. She also had a war of sorts with the anime club in their school who wanted to put in all sorts of manga and light novels into the school library. As a literary lover herself, she couldn't stand that such low quality works in the library, especially since she used to be the librarian before becoming the student council president. Thanks to that however, she was quite familiar with all the reincarnation light novels that was getting popular at the time. Quite an irony that she ended up becoming a main character of one.
Gift: The ability to read. For now, she could somewhat read a little of human books and tomes. Perhaps in the future she could grow her ability to read ancient and lost languages that no one else in the world could understand.
Other: She particularly hated those reincarnation story protagonists who would receive a powerful ability right off the bat and then proceed to lord it over to the rest of the world, especially when they acted immorally with it.
@Moonlit Sonata Would you be the one making NPCs as well or are we allowed to?
If you have suggestions then feel free to shoot me a PM, but the NPCs will be just that, NPCs.
@Holy Grail She did not find a way to accelerate time in a normal human science scrub world. The DeLorean exploded and she died like that. I'm so sorry. Gift is limited to one target at a given point in time.
As was stated previously, I'll generally advise against limited Gifts like these that have a very set and obvious path of expansion, but if you're sure you want to go through with it then feel free.
Remove the comment of how other goblins see him. That's the sort of thing that should emerge naturally during roleplay, rather than being imposed in the CS. The Gift is fine, but keep in mind that even if he gains access to human technology he'll still be well below human inventors who have studied this sort of thing properly, given the weakness of his soul currently.
@Hammerman I'm understanding the ability more as language comprehension than anything else, and that she has the starting point of having some understanding of the human language. If that's not the case though, let me know.
Feeling much less sick today, so once the day's obligations have been wrapped up (which will be in about seven hours), I'll write up the OOC.
@Moonlit Sonata I'm okay with language comprehension. I just went with "reading" because your example said an English/language teacher would have that gift and she was just an avid reader. Well, she did read difficult books other high schoolers would never read in their own volition so I suppose "language comprehension" could work too.
Gifts will be pretty bad at the start, as stated above, so you'll have to cull some of the far. Namely, change this to just being able to ascertain characteristics of a plant, and even that will be fairly "hazy".
fair enough, I have updated and simplified the gift accordingly
Is this still open? It looks really interesting and I'd love to make a necromancer.
Yep, welcome to the party. I should say though that if you want to go for a necromancer kinda deal, you should expect to be limited to animating, say, about one goblin-sized body at any given time. I'll explain how stuff like that goes when the OOC's up, which'll be in a few hours after all my real life work's gotten wrapped up.
@Moonlit Sonata I revamped and changed the power as well as her past life history. Maybe this idea works out better than the one other and is not as limited?
Name: Lyminia
Gender: Female
Appearance: Eh, it could be said that Lyminia has some "highly attractive" features than the average female Goblin, which is very distinct among Goblins and Goblin females.
In her past life, Lyminia was born the bog-standard daughter named "Lyra" of a couple who owned a funeral home and helped care for the graveyard next door to their funeral home. She spent a lot of time around dead people, around graves, even took up with the beliefs of spiritualism much to the exasperation of her Christian parents. While her world seemed to appear to be as mundane as our own real world for the most part, the likes of "ESP" and "ghosts and spirits" were non-mundane and actually rather magical factors that legitimately existed in her world. Though nor born with an innate ability to sense the dead or the like, through constant exposure to the ghosts and spirits that existed around her family's funeral home and in the graveyard they tended, many potent spiritual energies were absorbed into her own body over time caused Lyra to develop an ESP ability of her own. This led her to try to become some sort of medium, and then being killed in a car accident just after she graduated high school. Meh.
Gift:
Magical Energy Beacon- Lyminia's Gift allows her to draw in the magical energies around her into herself and for purposes of magic/spell-casting much more easily. This is done by effectively transforming her into a "magical energy magnet" or a "magical energy beacon" that causes the various magical energies around her the be naturally drawn to her much more easily, much more effectively, and much more strongly than any normal/average magic user. A direct side effect of this ability is that it naturally "attunes" her to the magical energies around her, allowing her to perceive these various magical energies around her that she is able to much more easily absorb.
Obviously this ability is only at the weak level of a starting Goblin right now, though, and so is not incredibly potent at this point in time. It does give her good potential as magic user, though.
Other: She has a personal passing fancy for precious jewels, so if she gets one somehow she will probably keep it unless she is in desperate need for cash. I wonder if this would factor in if she became a dragon of some kind down the line though. *shrugs* Who knows?
Appearance: A green-skinned, four foot tall, ugly piece of work. Despite this, he's surprisingly somewhat handsome: strong cheekbones, and a jawline that could cut diamonds; a wide, sharp-toothed grin; and a powerful, upright posture.
Personality: Bold and overwhelmingly confident, Rahak never hesitates to take action. Although he has a "leave-it-to-me" attitude when it comes to working, he's just as quick to rely on others if he doesn't understand something. Rahak is not much of a thinker, often just deciding things based on his intuition or feelings. He has a chivalrous mindset, refusing to sneak or attack the defenseless.
Past Life History: Derek Donman was a local governor who sought to reform his hometown. Extremely active during his term, he pushed to improve the living conditions and education system. He became a local legend after personally re-educating several of the gangs in the town, a few of the members actually becoming model citizens afterwards. Hospitalized after running into a building to rescue its occupants from a roaring blaze, Derek's life was unfortunately cut short.
Gift: Despite not being the smoothest of talkers, Rahak is incredibly charismatic, his appearance alone instilling confidence in others. Of course, he's still quite ugly to other races, but he can be somewhat charming.
Other: He laughs with a "Gyah ha ha!". And does it a lot.
@Holy Grail For reasons I can't disclose because [spoilers], the universe of origin must be a mundane one. Magic doesn't really work in the way you're assuming, but that'll be more apparent in the OOC.
@Rice Porridge I was expecting a goblin model, but this is fine too.
@Moonlit Sonata Ok! Will edit that into the OC's profile. Still, thoughm how should i word the Gift to be able to work as best as it can within the world of the roleplay?
