Territory: Texas (minus Golf Coast region) and Oklahoma.

History: After the Second Korean War happened, then-Texas Governor Richard Buchard had started stockpiling money, resources, fuel and food - since many analysists had predicted, that the Second Korean War might blow up any seven ways. Most feared the global distruption and damage to the world economy that might happen - if either Japan or South Korea were bombed.

Things turned completely three-hundred sixty - when the United States lost in a naval battle against China. From there the crisis developed further until the Washington Massacre happened and the entire country was thrown into rebellion.

With California the first state to seceed completely from the union - Texas soon followed suit, folding any remaining property of the United States into the New Texas Republic. With many states devolving into anarchy, collapsing or former radical ideals - then President Richard Buchard, deployed what Army Forces had been formed to 'secure' the state of Oklahoma into the New Texas Republic. Both being easily able to be persuaded to join the Republic - as Texas had both the manpower, population and resources to become the South-Western regional power.

Despite the military and economic power of the New Texas Republic - they also plagued by crackdowns and internment camps. As President Buchard, has unleashed a round-up of many left-wing politicians, civil servants, citizens and journalists. His policies are multi-racial, as he only targets people based on their political 'beliefs' only. As such, the world only knows of having the opposition being denied a say in the policies of Texas and nothing more.

With the rise of the APSF - it has become a one-way ticket to the internment camps, if anybody so much as organizes a protest, a rally or a civil rights march. Anything related to undermining the the policies of the the New Texas Republic is grounds for immediate crackdowns and arrests.

Military Forces: Most of the former US Army and Air Bases had been absorbed in to the new state - with active soldiers being given the choice to either join the new state' army or be honorably discharged for their service. In the chaos of the Second American Civil War - most chose to stay in the freshly formed Texas Army.

Many of the former US-equipment was painted over and shipped into the hands of the Texas Army - while a draft had been instituted to help build up their numbers. While several civilians militias have been given government funding to be formed.

Name of Faction: The American People's Salvation Front

Platform: Modern Chinese-style Communist State, with influence from Cuba.

Important Individuals:
Primer John Browder, Public Communist Sympathizer, puppet for the Chinese government
General Zhu Fuxi, Supreme Commander of the APSF Military Forces, assigned to oversee the war for the Chinese Government.

Territory: Occupying the entirety of Florida and Louisiana, as well as the southern halves of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia, and the Gulf Coast region of Texas.

History: The Communist revolution in the USA, did not come from the Communist Party like many would expect. Instead, the formation of the military-political faction that would become the American People's Salvation Front found its origins in Anti-War Chinese Sympathizers, aided and influenced by Chinese and Cuban espionage agents shipped to the mainland from Cuba. Starting in Florida, the movement managed to gain followers under a guise of ending the war, deposing the unpopular regime, and instigating one chosen by the people, for the people. John Browder was chosen for his excellent public speaking skills, and his willingness to serve the Chinese government as a de-facto puppet.

Successfully disarming the National Guard and converting many of its members, with aide from munitions brought in prior to the breakdown of the United States by the Chinese and Cubans, the APSF seized control of the state of Florida, and quickly spread both further north, and along the Gulf Coast. With military leadership supplied by the Chinese, and troop training on par with that seen in the People's Liberation Army, the APSF quickly captured territory in Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and the coastline of Texas.

Now seeking to consolidate their forces, build some semblance of defense after such a rapid expansion, and ensure a constant supply flow from China to Cuba to the mainland US, the APSF is currently seeking legitimization and acknowledgement from the world stage as the Free People's Republic of America. Currently, China, North Korea, Cuba, Laos, Vietnam, and the Communist Party-led government of Nepal back this claim. However, much of the world still does not recognize the fledgling state, and diplomatic attempts to establish relations have been met with failure in most of the nations on Earth.

Military Forces:
The American People's Salvation Front is primarily composed of Infantry utilizing Chinese-based tactics and training, with Americans making up the bulk of combat units, but Cubans and Chinese comprising much of the support staff for the forces. Weapons are primarily those seized from National Guard and US Military armories, such as the M16 line of rifles, with recent supply shipments bringing in Chinese Type 95 and Type 03 automatic rifles, as well as the occasional crate of Cuban AKM assault rifle. Rumors persist that the Chinese have brought in cyber-warfare experts, designed to infiltrate any and all electronic systems used by the other various factions involved in the civil war. There have also reportedly been sightings of Chinese special forces operating on the frontlines, though China denies providing anything beyond support staff and munitions. The Chinese navy has provided shipping of supplies and protection of these convoys, but they have not begun active involvement in the war. Likewise, heavy equipment such as tanks, aircraft, or artillery emplacements have not been provided by the Chinese, with any found to have been American models, captured from military and national guard installations.

Thanks to a completely foreign support staff and political structure, the APSF is able to field more infantry than expected for a rebellion group. Their fortifications are well-manned, and well-built, and they have consolidated their forces well throughout their territory.

The Lost Legion/The Forgotten (The Rats as an insult)

Platform: Populist - people who have become disenfranchised with the American Dream and believe themselves to be those who Lady Liberty left behind and those who were abandoned by nation such as the homeless, the impoverished and the imprisoned. They are not however to be confused with Communists.

History
The Lost Legion was never born out of any grand political scheme or the desire to ignite some form of change, but instead for the simplest of all reasons: survival.

As order began to break down in cities and America began to fail, many found themselves forced into poverty. Those already in poverty found themselves devoid of any possessions and forced on to the streets. It was these homeless who found themselves flooding parks and streets. When protests and riots broke out, they fled into sewers and subways to hide from the chaos above.

Among the needy arose a man named Just Adkins, self styled “Homeless King”. He found himself at the head of a growing horde of needy people who now began to call for the heads of those who abandoned them in favor of the rich, the corporations, the bureaucracy.

As the situation in America deteriorated more and more, Adkins and his “Forgotten” became more and more active, making themselves known. At first it was public preaching as they lacked resources to do much else. Soon they gained support and with support came resources. They took their message online where tens of thousands became exposed to the Forgotten. Many of those would join them in person or in spirit as informants and agents in other places as America was on its last legs. Their web grew, their influence reaching more and more places, gaining the sympathy masses.

Then, when America fell, the Forgotten took the streets in the looting and arming that so many others did. But when they raided police stations and armories, they found little resistance. They found supporters in people who worked in such places and they weakened the resistance if not just allowed the Forgotten to waltz on in.

Now armed, Adkins sought to increase his newly christened “Lost Legion” (a name given to them from an online user) even more. Through various gang contacts, he secured the cooperations of the various organized crime mobs and rackets but under the condition that he free the prisoners within his growing realm. If he freed the prisoners, they would keep them in line. The only problem was that despite all their influence, the Lost Legion hadn’t convinced any prisons meaning that they would have to fight their way into them.

The first real taste of battle saw a wave of screaming men and women in cobbled together and looted equipment attack prisons like a particularly violent LARP group. In all, little over a hundred people lost their lives in the prison battles but the prisoners were free. And so the north eastern syndicates where pleased, swearing allegiance to the Lost Legion as cities and towns began to fly their flag, the Forlorn Banner: America may have forgotten them back then, but America will certainly remember them now.

Military Forces:
Having nothing to loose and everything to gain, the Lost Legion knows what true suffering is like. Made up of desperate people and homeless veterans, their ranks are quiet nicely padded with a mass of militia and an more professional-like elite corps of former veterans. Having gotten used to the struggles of poverty and homelessness, their soldiers are tough and durable. They fight like cornered rats, and the Lost Legion has many, many rats.

The Lost Legion’s primary tactics involve two things, Surprise and Numbers. Lost Legion soldiers will often preform “subterranean uprisings” which they crawl out of subway tunnels and sewers in force to overwhelm the enemy. While formerly homeless vets have given the Lost Legion a solid base of leadership and seasoned soldiers, they lack the ex-US Military support that other factions do meaning that they are very reliant on small unit tactics and have otherwise simple large scale strategies.

Influence is also a more unconventional weapon used by the Forgotten. The Forlorn Banner attracts many who are desperate but don’t wish to be enslaved to the communists or other factions. They are rumored to have agents everywhere and sympathizers in places where they do not.

Masters at repurposing, rebuilt vehicles can often be seen in the use of the Lost Legion: old school buses being used as APCs, trains being turned into underground tanks, catapults mounted on the backs of pick up trucks, tractor trailers being used as giant rams or mobile bunkers. And while individually most of the Lost Legion is under equipped, they grit their teeth and continue on anyways. What good is living when you have nothing to live for?

Secessionists, Far-Left & Anti-War Dissidents - The idea of a independent Cascadian state has existed since the days of the first settlers in the Northwest. A nation run by those who live on Northwestern soil and breath the air of the Pacific tugged at a sense of unity, instead of following laws and customs dictated by politicians who didn't leave the eastern seaboard.

Important Individuals
General Richard Beckard - While not the de-jure leader of the Republic, General Beckard is the man who truly rules the Cascades. Before heading the Oregon National Guard, a younger Beckard served in a command position during Desert Storm in Iraq and Odyssey Dawn in Libya in 2011. After his retirement he returned to Oregon and worked a simple position in commanding the state guard and organizing defense for war-time America. After the failures of his country to conduct themselves in Asia, Beckard quickly began to lose faith in his nation. Thus it came as no surprise when the commander ordered his men to stand down to the Cascadian rebels and joined their cause. Being one of the few men of former high position, General Beckard quickly rose to be a leading member of the Cascadian movement; though his political apathy has made him look weak to his more politically oriented leaders.

President Dianna Hochin - Dianna Hochin, alongside her husband Alexander, were at the political forefront of the Cascadian independence movement since the 1980s and led countless protests and marches in favor of a multitude of social and economic issues in the former United States. Starting off her career as a mere Democrat she found herself quickly feeling alienated for her more radical social beliefs and by the 90s had removed herself from mainstream politics entirely, opting instead to form 'The Oregonian Greens'. When the war came the Hochins were quick to begin protests against 'imperialism' in Asia and demanded the federal government cease their aggression against China and the DPRK. Then the massacres in Shanghai and Korea, thousands of lives lost in a destined to fail and rushed offensive by joint Japanese-American forces. Taking the front lines of the protest Hochin marched with her comrades in Portland and, when the rioting broke out, stood headstrong alongside her fellow Cascadians. While not officially elected, Hochin has stood as the face of the Cascadian independence movement for over a decade and her rise in popularity among the far-left, environmentalists, and even some liberals will likely see her elected officially when the storm clears.

For decades there had existed a small but active Cascadian movement, made up predominantly of leftists and environmentalists with very little political support. However with the war and its great loss of life came many new voices calling for a cutting of ties with the United States, men and women who wished only for peace and neutrality in a war they no longer felt was even their's to fight. Thus, when the day came and American soldiers began firing on peaceful protesters, the revolt began. The protests in Portland, Salem, Seattle, Olympia, and other cities across the region turned to full riots. Within hours national guard armories were raided and barricades were made in the cities, and the doug flag flew from them all. National Guardsmen and citizens were given three options; join the revolters, flee, or fight. Many simply accepted defeat and laid down their arms, unwilling to die for the stars and stripes any longer, but some stood for the America they believed in and firefights across the major cities continued for days until finally the revolters stood victorious.

In the immediate aftermath of their victory there was utter chaos. With no real organized leadership a majority of Oregonians and Washingtonians turned to the now defunct national guard and police force. Through the chaos the former head of the Oregonian National Guard, Richard Beckard, rose to prominence and ordered the guardsmen still loyal to him to put down any unionist unrest and looters within the Portland area. Soon after he reached out to the Washington Guardsmen and began plans for a joint effort by both states to militarize a Cascadian Militia to restore order in the two states. On the political front, the heads of the Cascadian secessionist movement and leader of the Oregonian Greens, Alexander and Dianna Hochin, organized citizen militias across the state to combat the crisis and establish legitimacy via popular support for the new 'government'.

In the weeks following the revolution the riots in major cities were quelled by the new 'Cascadian Mounted Police', a force of former national guard and police officers utilizing captured APCs and home made gun mounted trucks. With a uneasy peace taking the major cities and outlying rural areas an emergency government was organized by General Beckard's militia, the Oregonian Greens, politicians in Oregon and Washington willing to cooperate with the rebels. Dianna Hochins was chosen as the emergency Madame President and General Beckard as her adviser, though the General was quick to assert his own influence over the new government.

There remains a war to be raged in the east against any federalists that will inevitably attempt to restore their control over the Pacific Northwest and unionists within the new Republic who continue their guerrilla war in the dense and seemingly endless forests and mountains of the region. The Cascades are unstable, but standing none the less.

Military Forces

The Cascadian Mounted Police and the Cascadian Militia are one in the same both in equipment and manpower. Both forces utilize equipment looted from the National Guard, mostly rifles and land vehicles with very few being able to actually operate the helicopters left on air bases, and civilian firearms and vehicles repurposed for military use. While the Mounted Police primarily uses trucks mounted with machine guns, the Militia takes the APCs and heavy duty firepower for usage on the border with Idaho.

The men that use the equipment are a different story. While virtually all former national guardsmen were either conscripted or volunteered for duty in the Militia, the Mounted Police is primarily made up of volunteers and untrained civilian conscripts tasked with keeping the peace. Leading both forces is the Cascadian High Command lead by General Beckard and his subordinates, mostly former Guardsmen and U.S Army veterans loyal to the General. Due to this commanding bias, the Cascadian forces fight according to the U.S Army Codebook and militiamen are trained in the same order. However, the Mounted Police utilize a much wider and less strict code of conduct and the strategies and tactics of the force vary town to town, with some being almost savage in their method of dealing with unionist rebels.

History
Even before the Third World War began, California had always considered a referendum to leave the United States. Many left-wing politicians and wealthy citizens had been funding Yes California, a committee that promoted the secession of the state. However, many citizens did not want to leave behind the United States until the invasion of North Korea. The Second Korean War resulted in the destruction of Busan and the battle of Shanghai, which alone killed millions of American soldiers. Once the remaining military force returned to San Diego, they were welcomed by protesters.

Los Angeles, San Jose, Long Beach, and all of the major cities in California were protesting against the government for the unnecessary war. When word about the Washington Massacre reached California, the protesters were now demanding California to secede from the Union or they would start rioting on the streets. After a week long discussion, Governor Jerry Brown announced that California would be the first to secede from the Union due to the events at Washington D.C. The citizens celebrated the massive victory all over the coastal cities while inland towns and cities were disappointed with the decision.

The remaining US military from Korea went to China Lake, Edwards Air Force Base and Fort Irwin to re-establish communication with the dying United States. While they were getting word from the President, Jerry Brown managed to annex Nevada in a deal with their governor. And the small military quickly establish law and order in Utah and Wyoming; however, they took some of land to expand California's control over North America. After the two month period of expansion for the new nation, the United States military decided to approach Brown with an offer: allow the United States to run California Republic or they will attack Sacramento and let it burn.

Brown, faced with the whole fury and might of the United States military, had no choice but to surrender his position. In the matter of hours, the President assumed complete control of California Republic and ordered the police and military force to impose law and order until peace returned to the republic.

Now, on the beginning of 2018, the old United States has fallen apart with undemocratic nations taking rise to this opportunity. And it was the California Republic's job to defend democratic values while thinking of a way to restore the United States.

Military Forces
The military force is heavily based on the United States military before the Battle of Shanghai and the whole mess with North Korea. Plus, with the remaining United States military on their side, it was safe to say that California Republic had the most powerful and biggest military out of them all. However, they lacked in moral and organization since the massive defeat in Korea. And they were looking to gather any remaining allies from NATO that were willing to support the restoration of order in America.

Of course, there also was the police force has got more powerful since the Washington Massacre. Given military grade weapons and equipment, they were ready to handle any sort of uprising and end it before it spread too far. However, only police forces in the major cities and hotspots were allowed to get the equipment. And once things cool down, they were stripped of their gears and replaced with the standard police equipment.
