@ScreenAcne Also, are there other lands besides this large continent? I was thinking of writing that at the start, the Bastij came as conquerors adorning their golden dragon armor and blood red banners with a dragon on top of it. They came from the shores of the east and started invading the tribes that lived there. Up until they reached the massive dessert that they called at the time "The Devil Sands". During their invasion they started subjugating the tribes that lived there and created outposts and explored the vast desert seeing as the travels from one side to the other, if taking the route around it was made weeks longer. They didn't get far on their invasion as the main land forces on the other continent started facing different enemies and armies until the empire of the Golden Dragon was defeated but the colonies on this new land still lived on.

With no more forces to support the invasion or keep the people subjugated they started thinking on establishing settlements, citadels, a standing and lasting territory for them to rule. But the tribes started uprising while being helped by the "more civilized" armies on the other parts of the continent. In the end they retreated on the establishments that they created on "The Devil Sands". During their invasion where they were at their strongest they had taken control of the major trade routes that were used by the other powers and build fortifications on every oasis there. They retreated to these establishments and fortresses. They were deep enough in the desert that a siege on one of these castles would be a foolish suicide mission. In the end a trade was made for them to open the trading routes one more and grant protection to every trader that passed in exchange for a fee and peace.

In time the establishment and fortresses expanded, forming citadels on even the outskirts of the desert as now the threat of being sieged was nullified by the peace treaty. The civilization only flourished with many other races joining and living on the outer citadels. The 7 outer citadels were built on top of flat hills and rock formations scattered through the desert. They were chosen to strategically space as equally as possible from the other citadels. If no such formation was found then one was build from scratch.

The inner 4 citadels that surround the main castle of The Golden Dragon were the ones built during the time when they retreated deep in the desert after news of their main land kingdom being destroyed accompanied by pressure from uprisings and attacks from other armies. They compromise entirely of high medium to high cooked meat nobility and bloodlines from the main land. There is an entire new life there with a different, more refined culture. These 4 citadels are built along a wall which surrounds the castle.

The castle is made entirely out of gold. Only the royal blood resides there. When the mainland forces were being obliterated, the princess and a handful of servants managed to escape. They came to the colonies asking for help which was ignored. They instead took the princess and retreated to the castle. They cut off their ties with the falling Golden Dragon Empire. The general and leader of the colonies married the princess and produced many heirs. That's how the royal bloodline has remained intact. Only the most skilled, beautiful, distinct and notable people from the 4 inner citadels can hope to stay at the castle grounds.

The inherent idea is fine. I'm, motherfucking. marble with the idea that a conquering party became a civilian one. But I don't see how they could become a great house, especially the royal blood line being left alive. The defense are powerful, but in Handon territory on the winning side they would just have to starve them out. Which is easy for forces getting food from non-desert, fertile lands.

The king has power, but if he let this arrangement go on. The other houses, especially all the lesser houses in your area would rise up in a civil war. It would be like...letting the germans having an fort in England at the end of ww, staffed, manned and with full county rights. Even if they did disown their own empire the...bad blood be too strong from the locals and other houses.

Especially if any royal were in there, whom would probably held most accountable for their nations attacks. If, only, as a symbolic gesture.

@ScreenAcne Wait a second. This will probably come as something bad to you, but I imagined them coming to Handon when there was no king or the sorts. Only separate factions/groups/houses and tribes. My forces were part of the founding on which the kingdom was based on as I wrote on my initial CS "one of the founding houses". This was my idea anyway.

Shit. I thought that was what you were teleprompting, my chess piece patron. But my head is so fucked from writing more lines than a type writer with a paper supply that it came all weird with my boiled brainalizer.

Nah. That's cool. You can roll with that. I thought you was gonna rewrite your history for a sec to an invading force later on. But shit, I'm all fine with that fuckery.

Also. Yeah. There are other lands and larpers but Handon is very, very far away from them by sea apart from Geraign.

@Lady Selune I am constantly thinking on how my house would interact with others. So maybe we have some petty squabble on who was the first house? The Bastij claim it was theirs and Kovalenko claim they were the first. But aside this historical inconsistency house Bastij respects house Kovalenko as they know and acknowledge that your house was one of the founding houses.

Actually, Kovalenko aren't the first, they were just the first to colonise the south.

@Lady Selune Is it a snow dessert? Or a sand one. If it is a sand dessert is it connected to the Devil Sands? Just want to clarify the geographical shape. Is it like a peninsula?

And about the colonies. Did they come from the same continent as the Golden Dragon Empire? If so, did they fight against them or also supported them during the war?

It's a sand desert, and it's at the complete bottom of the continent. If we get a map, I'll elaborate.

While we're clarifying, headcanon is the Shattered Mountains stretch more or less down the western coast of the continent, cut off from the sea by high cliffs in all but a few areas, and primarily accessing the rest of the continent via the Twin Streams river as it flows out of the mountain range towards a lake near the Capital (Before further flowing towards the sea). There are many smaller passes dotting the range, eventually leading to the pockets of farmland that the main factions have cultivated, but they are much harder to access in any season except Summer.

Its main exports are metals, gemstones, mercenaries, and timber- especially Ironwood. I would imagine they are the main source of new gold and silver for coinage in the Kingdom- Especially after those desert bluebloods hoarded all of the old supply and made a damn castle out of it.

@Lady Selune Ok, just to add this. The Devil Sands is the biggest desert that is located in the middle of the continent, so big that in fact forces the other houses to pass through it in order to trade with the other houses. I can't stress that enough cause I've built my whole house around that fact.

You own the largest piece of land since it is first come first serve and everyone that comes after should adjust their territory to the ones that came before and already set their boundaries, I respect you statement. So the house Bastij doesn't necessarily own all the Devil Sands since the farther you get away from the center point of a circle the more the area that is encompassed increases. So it could be just a small stripe of sand but because it is located at the very most outer part of the desert it could easily be as big as the territory of house Bastij. And it all stands as neutral ground, the boundary which separates the territory of house Bastij and other territories. No one has a claim to it.

I just want for my idea of a house to be in harmony with everyone's. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

@Sisyphus Hey man. I hadn't seen that you were playing as the house which owned the eastern part of Handon along with the coast. If you have a problem with my backstory of the Golden Dragon Empire invasion forces coming from that side, I'll pick another coast.

If you don't have a problem your house could have some deep disdain for mine or some sort of long lasting resentment. What do you think?

@Lady Selune@Bishop

Comrades.

Handon is an abstract land mass. It's as big as you need it to be. There are no defined territories besides your own and there's no reason you can't be as big or as small as you need said territory to be, even if you're on the same side. Nothing says you can't have enough dead space between you to have conflict or none.

If you want lore where you guys were close enough to fight...bam..that's the land mass between you. If you want the map to be so big you guys could have a big ass walk over mountains to meet. Same thing. The only specific land is the capital and the surrounding forces that are apart of said capital rural forces, which is dead in the center. A circle.

Be as creative as you like, my soldiers of shape shifting. You can have you land be a big ass, sprawling rock scape the shape of octopus if you want. The only case I'll clamp down on any of it if it used to power game.
