@Muttonhawk I'd need to major on engineering most likely and that's the bane of my existence.

I don't know about needing a college education for it. Machining always looked like more of a vocational thing to me. Then again, I've never looked into it past videos of people making cool stuff on milling machines, lathes, etc.

@Muttonhawk Things you do yourself in your own mill or forge are one thing, but operating advanced machinery requires more than experience. Thankfully I don't need to go through that, but I still need to work with watch straps and it can be annoying sometimes.

Wait, what exactly are you doing?

Don't tell me we have two crazy watchmakers in this RP.

In other news, my final exam was far easier than I thought. Just some bureaucracy for conferral and my studies are done and dusted. I think I'll be posting a bit more often for the next few months.

@Muttonhawk Nothing as advanced as Dawnscroll. I can only adjust the size of watch straps and change batteries and I'm not even that confident in the latter.

Oh well, I still think it's a funny coincidence. Next I'll be hearing that Capy repairs grandfather clocks as a side job and BBeast is building an atomic clock for fun.

Dawnscroll Ordo ad Logos

Member Seen 6 yrs ago

@Dawnscroll, I've noticed a couple of things regarding Logos.

Firstly, one of Logos' biggest fears is the heat death of the Universe, which is a result of increasing entropy. Yet most of the regular Laws of Physics do little to prevent the advance of entropy. However, magic, the Gap and the force of Change are all mechanisms by which one could theoretically remove entropy from the Universe and prevent a heat death (other risks notwithstanding). Yet, ironically, it are these things which Logos hates the most about the design of the Universe.

Secondly, in Divinus OOC canon, the language of physics and mathematics is Elvish. Does this make Logos the Elf King?

Totally alive here. Promise.

Its not just the Heat Death of the Universe; Logos being the "Witness" has seen various endings. Big Crunches, Heat Death, Endless Expansion, Eldritch horrors gobbling everything, ice ages, and literally just the Universe dying of old age.

Namely, for all his bluster, its not that Logos doesn't fear... the bastard has just forgotten. Regardless, you are right in a sense. His biggest enemy is not Chaos nor any of the other gods. His "ideal" is to create a Universe that NEVER ends. A perpetual machine, eternally constant and self-sustaining. The Divine Clockmaker winding the spring of his device and then stepping back to simply watch. Which is why he comes into significant blows with all the other deities.

Logos has heavily espoused, even though he's shit at enforcing it with his own daughter, is a no contact policy with mortals. The bullshit the gods get up just hastens the eventually collapse, either by their own damn fault, or in response to something they do. Logos is the ULTIMATE control freak, and despises anything not in his Design.

Logos is many things. He's beyond proud, and this restrains him from ever asking for aid from another. He's long-lived, and easily jumps to old circular lines of thinking, simply because he's been doing it for so goddamn long. He is a god because he is a god because he is a god because he is a god. Ultimately, very unperceptive to new ideas NOT of his origin; simply because he feels he has seen every possibly outcome to various actions. And further more, he is extraordinarily powerful. And therefor, he is arrogant. In the traditional sense, he is the strongest of the Gods. He will hit harder, think faster, and striker truer. No overconfidence, but an assiduity than cannot be challenged. And this arrogance will lead to multiple downfalls and defeats on his part....

IF I CAN EVER FIND TEN MINUTES TO SIT DOWN AND FUCKING WRITE.

Also, if this is canon... and I gotta get a link to this convo that spurred this... he would totally be Thranduil. Elrond is too fucking noble.

@Muttonhawk Not... entirely sure if Logos's powers include time yet. Did we ever settle on Logos taking the temporary mantle of Time? In any event, Logos is definitely the physical embodiment of what WE know as physics. Time and its quantumn bullshit was handled by Vowzra, and even Jvan had some sort of shared relationship with quantumn geometry and mechanics. Logos was more akin to handling Energy... gravity, kinetic forces, mass, temperature, that sort of stuff. If it existed on a molecular level or as a wave or a force, that was his playground and then some.

@Kho Question? Can I raise Elysium to Demi-God status? I've since thus been trying to work around this limitation ever since we started but... y'know...

Jesus christ, so many watch people... why am I not more popular?

@Slime We all have to start somewhere. My mother taught me how to do those things, and thats what got me started. But what you know is a skill that will feed you for the rest of your life. Dont dismiss it so easily.

@Muttonhawk Holy shit, if they do, lets make a guild. But serious, if Teknall or any of the gods ever wants to make clockwork anything, I trust you guys would put enough faith in me that I could offer some input?

@Kho Gotta show you a super sexy pocketwatch I just added to my collection. German made in the 1700s. Make of ivory, inside and out. AMAZING.

I don't remember it being mentioned that Logos inherited Vowzra's purview over time. You could unlock the portfolio manually, I guess? I was just speaking in terms of time as it plays into the greater structure of physics. You can't really separate the two completely without breaking either one. Certainly, you wouldn't be able to pull off stopping all time everywhere without at least having Vowzra's level of control over it. It's all speculation, really.

EDIT: If Toun felt like making something especially clockwork, I'd hit you up for descriptions and such, sure! Though, I imagine that kind of stuff is more Kinesis' jam, even with BBeast now being her player. She's most likely to make stuff like that.

With search temporarily disabled, I can't just pull out posts from the depths of the OOC. But it started with Kho describing my use of scientific language as 'Elvish' (IIRC, it was when I did the post where I started making Teknall's Workshop). The joke stuck.

@Dawnscroll@Muttonhawk, coincidentally, I'm working on a post with Kinesis, and I've briefly covered what she has been doing all these years. Among those things is making mechanical clocks (and other devices) and giving them to people, just because she can.

Relevant to that, @Kho@Cyclone@Rtron, what is the status on @Commodore's character (Jydshi) being accepted?

Nah don't worry Kho, I'm just unilaterally accepting him by virtue of helping to write his initial collab...

You two other GMs have become obsolete

In all seriousness, I believe that what happened is that Commodore didn't ever finalize a sheet and wanted to work out some of the details in his post beforehand.

@Dawnscroll I know it's a useful skill. I do like to work on watches, but most of the time they're kind of annoying to deal with, especially the elastic bands.

And a watch made of ivory?! That should be worth a small fortune.

@Slime Ah, good old Spiedel Stretches. Conquer those young sir, and you will make a fortune.

I mean, the ivory one was a few grand, but because of how early it was made, it keeps shit time. Great conversation piece, and it is worth a bit, but not nearly as much as you might think.

@Kho Yes, I am still interested. Sorry for the late reply and all, I just haven't really seen the need to say anything so I didn't. After the CS was posted I'd either eventually get a response about being accepted or changes or whatnot, or it would become clear that I had been forgotten, so it was simply easier to just wait and see.
