Metagamers - on my shit list currently. They know OOC where everyone else is at so they move their characters automatically in that direction with no reason to and avoiding anything suddenly that may get in the path. What makes it worse is when they time jump while doing it. Everyone else is posting covering a certain period of time but they use up so much more to get from point A to point B and it cuts the GM off from telling them what they could be running into.

Oh, someone is on the second floor but hey there was sounds coming from behind a door right near me. Not gonna check the door out but I am suddenly heading right up stairs. Doesn't matter I am in a dilapidated building that is crumbling, I can get up those stairs whose condition hasn't been posted since I hadn't check the damn stair well before hand. I just know I get up from a dead sleep, move through a place with no electricity and barely any lighting because the sun isn't fully up and there aren't windows where I am. All in the same span of time it took everyone elses character to say - What the fuck? How does my character do this? Because I typed it.

Sorry but no, back track your ass or I will do it for you!

Tangent - When people Ship their characters suddenly and try to purposefully set up the romance. Seriously? Ugh, that is worse than the shy characters screaming for attention for me. Let the shit happen and see where it unfolds! You may be surprised by the results!

I mean, I'm not a real Hagenees, since I'm from Voorburg originally and currently living in Leidschenveen. But I live like 200 meters from the Kyocera stadion, so I guess even the most Haags thing isn't even in the Hague anymore. But yeah, for real. I already noticed you were Dutch, the name on your art gives it away.

I think something to keep in mind when writing shy characters is that... I wanna say 'nobody cares about them' which sounds harsh and is not entirely true in the sense that people do care about them, it's just that shy people tend not to get noticed.

Because it's a self insert, because it's the easiest thing to write, because they are lazy, or because they want their character to be the center of attention (which is somewhat paradoxical because you're writing a shy character that doesn't like attention).

Haha, we're in the same boat there; Assen mostly has the TT going for it, yet the racetrack itself is in Witten :')
Yeah, the name kind of does, doesn't it :')

And I think you really hit the nail on the head here. From what I've seen there's a lot of 'please put effort into me' going on with those characters; wanting people to reach out to the character even when the character pushes them away several times, without realizing people aren't going to put that kind of effort into a fictional character they have no investment in.

----
Another thing that irks me about very needy characters is; when I write a particularly empathic character, the sort where I can't ignore such a shy creature without breaking character, and someone keeps making things happen to their character so that he or she needs to be comforted, so that the rp more or less revolves around them.

Find friends that you enjoy RPing with, introduce them to each other, and if they get along, bam, you have a dedicated group of roleplayers. That's how I've started doing it and that's what I typically have best results with. But I have friends that are whimsical, so it doesn't work as well. When you have friends that are still very into roleplaying, then it'll work. And then you can use randoms to fill in the blank spots.

I've tried that as well. Sadly I used to have two good roleplaying friends; The one that I am still friends with doesn't get on much so there really isn't a point in asking them. I've tried to get into other threads and make new roleplaying friends but the luck I've had lately is.... well, nicht gute.

I find it's easier to find people into the same things as you and make them into your friends, than to make friends and then see if they like the same things.

Consider finding an RP that you like then, and sticking with it and chatting people up. A friendly bit of banter goes a long way.

you know what really grinds my gears?, when RP's start off slow, every single RP that dies off starts off slow, I fucking hate it when the first 10 or something pages are just people sitting around talking, I don't want to talk I want to fight shit, do shit, do anything but talking, I know talking is RP. but it's so mindnumbingly boring that the RP dies off instantly.

Would you watch a movie that starts off with a bunch of people in a bar talking about their life and other shit for one hour. No no sane human being would. so why the fuck would we do this in a RP.

Also I really dislike signatures. I don't give a shit about signatures, I give a shit about what you're writing, signatures are basically pop-up ads except those are better because they serve a purpose. also I really hate slice of life and high school rps, take everything I said from above. now base the entire RP on that. I rp so I can escape from my stressful highschool life, I don't RP so I can experience it again.

I'd offer to help but I'm more of a low sci-fi guy,and I'm inexperienced at GMing for a multiplayer RP.

I do attempt to find RP's that I like, but those are few and far between. I think the last roleplay I joined was a fighter jet RP and that lasted a few months. Was amazing, though.

Autocorrect typos. Some are easy to notice and fix before posting but others when I'm in a rush I barely notice and they totally ruin the integrity of an otherwise good post. *stares at them*

Special kudos to the ones that are so bad they even make my poor role play partners scratch their heads and go "dude WTF"! I'd turn it off but sadly I need it to fix my other fast-typing errors so am at a bit of an impasse there

When the GM expects more than what category they posted the RP in. It's called casual for a reason people not advanced. >.<

"Crazy" characters
I like the concept of mental illness being a character trait. Hell, I've had characters who suffer from some form of illness. What I hate is when someone has a "Crazy" character and thinks that Crazy=LOL Randumb, schizophrenia=psychopath/The Joker, or some other Hot Topic thing. I find it insulting to people who actually have mental illness.

I have schizophrenia and I can confirm it does not make you crazy IF you take care of the symptoms. Yes, sometimes hearing things can drive someone nuts, but I've learned to silence the voices that aren't good for me. Such voices that tell you to do bad things or tell you to kill yourself those are the ones you want to say, "Hey I AM NOT going to do such things." It can be work, sometimes, but have to live with it.

Ones who put narrow interpretations of what Free, Casual, and Advanced sections stand for. (This is something I get a complaints about from people who are not in my RP's.)

At first glance my Rp's look advanced. They have detailed back stories, long character sheets, and the posts can get up into many paragraphs. All things that by a general look would place them in advanced and yet I host them in the Casual section and continue to run them there.

Why? Because the casual section for me is more than just about over all layout and post length. It is also about mentoring, teaching, and improving ones skills. For my Rp's I require a minimal of 2 well developed paragraphs, which can fall into casual or advanced. People chose to post more.

I am a very hands on GM.

I go through the Cs's with a fine toothed comb, though even I miss things, and require corrections to be made that are needed. I walk Rpers through the process step by step if needed. Anything from coding help, to continuity issues, color codes that are easily read by others, how to host images, creating a back story that works with personality traits, and so forth.

For posts, I critique and require edits if things are out of place, if a character suddenly isn't acting as their personality is listed to, what are the reasons behind it. I go through how to develop relations in Rp's that are not forced ships, point out metagaming, where to start collabs and if they are needed or not. How to go through called actions and rounds in fights. Developing skills through out an RP a character might not have started with, and so forth.

It's a learning curve and it is why I host in the Casual section. Once you are in advanced, for me personally, I feel these things should not have to be something a GM holds an Rpers hand for. Rp should have a good base understanding of all of these things listed above and more. Advanced Rpers, while still learning and improving, shouldn't need as much guidance. (And from my experience here on the forum are far less open to it than those in the casual section.)

So yes, I host in casual, yes I will continue to do so. I am teaching, and trying to help Rpers in my Rp's get a better hand on different Rping techniques. That for me is what Casual is for - learning and taking that next step.

(Not necessarily roleplay related but the other version of this thread on off topic is not longer existent apparently but I feel like I should let this out.) I'm getting really aggravated by people complaining about English translations of Japanese things before they even come out. Like holy fuck man I know I should expect it given the communities sometimes but still. I look on the recently coming out F/GO mobile game for example and see on reddit people hoping the English version of the games FAILS just because of a few translation choices before the game is already out in the west. People are condemning an entire section of the fandom (English speakers only interested in an English speaking game such as myself) because their god damn elitist attitudes don't see that the game suits them. It doesn't stop there it's all over the community. I feel like if I voice my objections I will just get rebutted by a completely biased person. And I'm not the one throwing sticks for example I believe Gundam Build Fighters has an awful dub, and an excellent japanese dub but if someone by some stretch of the imagination likes it then that's fine with me it's there. I'm not going to damn any future dubs for them.

Gonna get really critical* about myself so this is a more personal bitching towards me for how I've been with roleplaying lately.

Since I fell out of the loop with my one friend weeks ago,I've noticed the...problems I've had getting back into the hobby. I really want to do more stories with others,to expand on my setting and to have fun,but it seems every time I do I run into something I find unsatisfying or just can't stand and it drives me away for a few days. The only thing I can say is making me do this is because I've become so accustomed to my one friend, how we roleplayed and thought was the same, that everything else seems unappealing compared. The standards I have are set at a bar that essentially makes for very few to actually get past the first few posts and it sickens me how complacent I've been, not striving to improve on anything that I don't think I could even get into the advanced section.

I love this hobby,I do. I've always enjoyed writing stories, especially with others, but with how narrow a field I've made for potential roleplayers and how I've essentially stopped striving to improve myself I've effectively made this hobby stagnant for me and it really sickens me.

*Not critical,but...meh.

@The Mage
I have the same problem. I have a good friend who went by Destroyer4292 that I used to role play with all the time. I call him a close friend and he has a new account on here that I found by looking his old username up on google. Just so happen to link to this website and his new name. I do miss the days we role played and I was hoping he was still on here today, but he hasn't been online for over 2 months.
