@Eventua I really like the second idea. It might not be what the GM originally asked for, but I feel he'd fit well into the world and having a nonmagical character as a player character in this setting would be very interesting, to say the least. I feel he could play important roles regarding information-gathering and furthering of characterization, especially in regards to worldbuilding and understanding of the magical girl phenomenon from the outside.

I dunno, the second one seems interesting, but you definitely have a point on the first, Raine.

...Although, come to think of it, that's actually probably how a teenager given PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER and told to be a selfless hero would react, so that's actually kind of funny.

I think the "vigilante with criminal contacts because he envied his sister" part's still a bit far on the edgy side.

Fair enough. :P

Although, the idea of a normal in a cast of superpowered high school girls does actually make me wonder whether or not the RP would be improved with some bystander characters reacting to stuff, giving people advice, etc. Don't most Magical Girl shows usually feature the lead's friends who are oblivious to her double life, too?

As side characters that tend to drop entirely out of focus. Especially when the magical cast gets large enough to justify it.

... though the first one that comes to mind where that doesn't has everyone in the know, and of the 'normal people', one is a ninja who can run on water and another can punch an explosion. Because he watches a lot of action movies.

But FRIENDSHIP, Raine! FRIENDSHIP is NEVER irrelevant!

...Also what show even is that? That sounds amazing. XD

Hmm... a good point. The vigilante part was more along the lines of 'but what if he needs to fight??' but, like, the whole point of a character like that is that he... doesn't, I guess. He's also supposed to be an optimist rather than moody - not acting so much out of resentment (though there's a little bit of it there) or 'angst' (he's probably not a teenager any more) but rather out a kind of...

"I don't get super powers but that doesn't mean I can't still do some good in this world."

...Although, come to think of it, that's actually probably how a teenager given PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER and told to be a selfless hero would react, so that's actually kind of funny.

Hmm...

So perhaps by lampshading the edginess and having her not necessarily be taken as a serious threat? Perhaps because her powers are fueled by negative emotions she's not actually that strong in comparison to the others and has to try and learn the virtues of 'not being shortsighted' and 'focusing every waking moment on being a force for change is just going to burn you out and make you more miserable'...

That could work. I'm doing something similar myself with Kyōka, since she's basically meant to be a bit of a deconstruction/eventual reconstruction of the usual socially insecure junior high student with conveniently absent parents who gets to be a magically empowered hero and tries to do her best to fight evil, come what may. In her case, she accepts the offer and takes her role just as seriously as your traditional shy character in a mahou shoujo anime, but her family issues, social awkwardness, and insecurity don't just go away because of that.

(I'll just conveniently leave out the part, by the way, where I planned exactly none of this and just kind of decided on this as my intention retroactively. XD)

I think that's being unnecessarily fancy and I'm just here to cut monsters up. All attempts at random artsiness are going to go over my head because there's no chance I'll read that deeply into it. :T

When does the new season come out again? July, right?

Between that and Owari 2 I'll actually have things to watch again

Yup, season 4 comes out July. I am eager.

Word of warning to anyone thinking about watching: it's just plain WEIRD and the animation's quite bad in S1. Then in S2 and S3 the animation's better. Still weird writing for the whole thing.

And now, out of context image:
