"To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war." -Warhammer 40k Intro
Warhammer 40,000: Only War is a tabletop RPG where players take on the roles of Imperial Guardsmen, the foot soldiers of the Imperium of Man expected to hold the line against xenos warmachines and mutant horrors with little more than a lasgun and unshakeable faith. Death is inevitable for the billions enlisted in the guard and their duty is to make that death useful.
The RP would be a bit more on the rules-lite side of things and the specific focus could be a variety of things, as the game allows for the players to be members of anything from a light-infantry regiment to a armored recon regiment or recovery and salvage regiment. I've been thinking a penal legion sounds particularly interesting, as it is filled with cutthroats, penitents, or just plain unlucky or bored inhabitants of a penal colony, given minimal supplies and suicidal objectives. The legionnaires are almost forced to work together, be resourceful, and resilient, or die a quick death on the battlefield or from their own allies. But, I'm open to whatever.
