@babbysama: Just waiting on the weekend!

@conscripts: You will determine the commander in the Camp Phase. The Commander will formulate a strategy, explaining how the troops will deploy and what they should do. He may even assign specific units to certain players, it's all up to him/her. Generally you would be leading your own troops on the battlefield, unless the Commander has specified otherwise. You can act freely and do as you wish, lead your units the way you want to lead them, or you may follow the orders laid out by your Commander. During Rise of Domrius I assumed command of the infantry (I had brought the 'core infantry' to the battle), and in both of my engagements I just grouped our infantry under my command; it didn't matter who they belonged to; because I was named commander I had the privilege to just assume command of every infantry unit we had. I delegated the command of the cavalry to others, and the command of the mages and archers to others, etc. Hope that makes sense.

@Nariata: Sounds great!

Now I'm even more interested. This sounds like its gonna be good. I can't wait to see the diversity of the troops/allied nations.

@TJByrum

I like to think of myself as a man with refined taste (but that remauns to be seen), one who enjoys to meddle with concepts that are unorthodox. Sometimes I make an RP with a novel idea that never ends up working out due to my terrible OCs and lack of interest, and sometimes it works like a charm.

But this RP sounds very intriguing, as the concept of losing seems like one that isn't explored nearly enough. Dying a heroic death is worth more than living another cowardly day, and those who say that honor is an outdated ideal have no sense of pride or loyalty.

Mark me interested, and please notify me when the OOC is made. I will be sure to think up a CS idea for you by then, so just make sure that the RP will be a blast.

Hmm... It's starting to look like we're going to be gathering a decently sizeable defense force together with the number of players present.

Indeed. It is looking like the Allies have mustered a lot of troops for the battle.

Indeed! In the spirit of mutual survival and friendship I swear to attempt to keep all incidents of friendly fire and cannibalizing the corpses of allies for equipment and meat will be kept to an acceptable minimum.

Well then I shall also swear that live sacrifices to the god of battle along with rites of honor will be kept to a minimum and acceptable number.

I'm thinking about sending in a group army of war elephants into the battlefield. Probably around 50-100. Not that giant LotR elephant, but the real life one. So when the creature is spooked and terrified, there's a chance that it will run away and trample on our own troops, so I'm not sure about reduced friendly fire.

@TJByrum Could we possibly use our own ingenuenity to think up weapons that our soldiers could use? For example, I would like to play as a group who would be more of a supportive ranged role, using modified ballistas and throwing flaming ordenance on the enemy. Of course this would be highly TKing, but the destruction would be worth it.

Ps: I assume there is no gunpowder in this setting.

I plan on using heavy frontline infantry utilizing heavy armour, shields and spears and fighting largely using the phalanx formation. They will be supported by crossbow men and scorpion style Ballista. With limited to no cavalry. This is of course all dependent on how the game is set up etc.

I'm thinking of bringing heavily armored cavalry winged hussar style, maybe with some horse archers.

I've been debating the make up of the forces that I wished to bring into the fold and I've finally made a decision.

The primary battle forces of the orcs will be made up of light infantry (With a mixture of leather, padded and mail armor/weapons depending on unit), bowmen and worg cavalry (because who doesn't love giant wolves?)

There will awesome be a small detachment made up of hunters and trappers, but they are to play a different role.

I was thinking of Orks as well. Mix of light/ Heavy Infantry and a heavy Troll Detachment. More of lacking in range for harder hitting melee units.

Also Orks! Not Orcs! Uzz dunt no da proppa sayin!
You're actually right, Im just a 40k fan.

@seriousarmour I suggest you focus on the core infantry then with the phalanx, and maybe make some more types of these infantry divisions instead of dipping your fingers into every jar.

Seeing that the RP is about teamwork between the allied troops to defend agains the Empire, I suggest we use our time till Friday/Saturday to come up with a plan regarding the unit composition.

I was thinking about making a heavely support and artillery orionted division, something where 200 out of the 500 men are tasked with operating the siege machines that I would be bringing. And the rest would be archers to support everyone from the bac and keep the machines safe. I think I can easely cover this subject as I a far more experienced with siege machines than sword fighting.

And just as an observation, the small size of our groups mostly mean that they are probably all focused on certain things instead of branching out. 500 people focusing on infantry, archery, cavalry and siege will be heavely divided and hard to manage in a battle, plus their troops will be divided between many captains. A troop with around 80% type of a single type could be more easely controlled and perhaps lead by their own commander without being split up.

Personally I was thinking more Lord of the Rings styled orcs rather then 40k or Fantasy.

You can join me with the elephants. Together we'll demolish them...Well until the behemoths panic. When that happens, GG

Anyway, I'm thinking of making my army a group of Indian or Persian-sized war elephants, going with heavy cavalry and support horse archers.

Okay... I'm going to raise two points for you to answer before the Gm says anything one way or another.

1: How effective do you truly believe war elephants are going to be in a mountain pass?

2: How do you expect to feed and look after the elephants as the campaign drags on? After all, this isn't just going to be a single battle, but a drawn out engagement that we are on the defensive of.

Not him, but...

1. I'd say extremely effective, actually maybe a little too effective. We are talking about a pass with two large bodies on both side with only one path making a choke point. Just charge forward(or whatever elephants do) and stomp everything in a straight line. The other troops staying back, but covering flanks.

2. The same way we keep the rest of our troops fed. With none of us mentioning it too much and assuming we all have proper rations.
