I'm just really waiting for the GM to tell me how many equioment I can bring. I don't have a problem with assembling things on site, but I want to know how much I can bring with myself. Realistically, bringing the materials of one fortress would be a job for the entire party. I can cheat and say I pulled it with horses (not that far fetched actually), but I would still need to bring those things I cannot pull. Like the Mangonels, and the Wyvern Ballista. Plus the shells.

goddamn logistics

Edit: I just used bring in almost every sentence. I haven't slept all night, please excuse my mistakes.

We have Elephants. Maybe you could bring that siege tower with them tied to their back?

Also that reminds me. If anyone want's to make some sort of connections to the Counsel of Wizards then I'm down. They are known all around the West and definetly wouldn't be strange for them to have some sort of connection to any of the Armies. Even the Orcs.

@Thecrash20 This is a 40 meter tall siege tower. I doubt I can bring THAT on elephants.

But if you give me time, and we don't use the elephants on the first day, I can assign some of my engineers to retrofit some saddles into proper archer nests with some cover. Perhaps even a single Wyvern ballista, seeing just how small they are.

Don't leave me out please. Probably the first day will not be his day, but just let the elephants defend the area

Mate, I'm only saying this because I feel like someone has to... but your siege tower isn't the unbeatable juggernaut that you seem to believe it to be.

Just going to say this to prove a point but... Ranged siege weapons are a thing and you have a pretty big target.

@Bright_Ops I know it ain't, but it's still a strong piece of equipment. Plus it sounds cool, and it doesn't need to be useful. We're gonna lose anyways, might as well go out in style. If you know what I mean.

@Conscripts I mean, I aiN't putting the Dragonspine tower on anything. But I could BUILD some extra defenses for your elephants. Like wooden armor pieces, or a better saddle that provides cover from arrows. Unless you have MASSIVE elephants.

@Conscripts Sure, we're all allies here. But I'll need time to do that so the elephants you choose to equip with these will be out of the battle for that battle (or more if the GM is particularly harsh about it). Plus I still need to know how many of my 300 peeps are assigned to individual equipment, so I may or may not have a limit on how many I can do. Maybe all 20, maybe only 5 maybe only 1. It's really up to the GM to balance it, so we'll see.

@Zetsuko I mean, I would sure hope that they could survive for a long time, hopefully going down only to swarming enemy troops. It has steel braces inside (which the romans didn't have) to improve the structural integrity, but I can see how a few diret hits from enemy mangonels or trebuchets could take it down. Or you know, a single shot if they brough something like a Warwolf with them (the biggest trebuchet ever built). Man, I can't wait to see what the enemy has in store for us.

@6slyboy6 I just seems easily countered. I can't imagine it has the greatest mobility, limited further by it's range of movement being confined to a rail system. And while the front is armored against fire it wouldn't be hard for light cave to get around it and throw torches or something with fire, But I guess that is where the rest of us come in. putting some of whats-his-name's royal knights by it as guards could ward off something like that.

of course none of this accounts for whatever magic capabilities the empire has...

@Zetsuko But do you think I'll just throw this at them? It functions more as a home base rather than an actual assault force. I don't plan on birnging it to the front line, as my own expertise is restricted to the fortifications of the base camp, where the rest of my equipment is set up. If the gods have it my way in the first few battles, this tower won't see much of an action. It servers as an excellent outlook for my General to adjust them aim of the mangonels and ballistas, and a palce where archers can fire at enemies who are hundreds of yards away.

If this tower has enemies near it, we have all probably fallen by that point, and it stands as an abandoned wooden husk. There is a good reason why I only brought one instead of many smaller ones, and that is because I don't plan on aggressively using them unless absolutely necassary.

@6slyboy6: I like Saqquar's theme! And Gasto seems like he'll be a great character. The Scaleguards (Redguards?) are interesting; I had not realized they were all women when I skimmed through the other day.

I do like your enthusiasm with siege equipment, I really do, and while I understand you explained the differences of each piece I think it could be redundant in the RP. The Mangonel and Slingshot are capable of the same thing as far as this role play goes. The Ballistae and Two Headed Dragon pieces could also be merged into a single piece, I think, with 'changeable ammo'. I think 5 Mangonel/Slingshots and maybe 10 Ballista/Dragon pieces would be sufficient for the battle, resulting in about 15 pieces of siege equipment. Does this seem like to less? To much? I will certainly factor in their capabilities either way.

The Dragon Spine Tower is pretty cool, and while I think some others would dislike it I am interested in seeing it used. I'm already devising ways that Alaric can counter it, and I think it'll be a nice and fun surprise for everyone in the RP when it happens.

Let me know what you think about my critiquing and I will get back to you as soon as I can.

@TJByrum Yay!

I'm happy you like the theme of the Saqquar, they are a nation I've tried to use many times before, but never got to because the RPs never started. But now I can use them at least.

I don't know how big the battle is, but I was imagining no more than 20000 soldiers in total. So about 18000 for the enemy. I think that, in a normal battle scenario Saqquar would bring MUCH more artillery, probably around 100, but seeing the haste at which they assembled these forces I can see them bringing fewer troops. I think 5 Mangonels are a logical number, considering their large size and wood hungry construct, but I would definetly think more ballistas. I think bringing 15 is reasonable, considering that the Dragonspine tower would have some ballistas inside. About 10 of 15 would be the Dragon Ballista, and I would want to bring 5 Two Headed Dragons, because they are much more "crowd control" focused than the other ballistas. They sure take a lnog time to reload (Which I forgot to mention in my CS), but they ARE shooting a 100 sqaure meter piece of cloth dipped in flammabe oil.

The whole idea was to offset this number by bringing basically 300 men who are only here to operate them and build shit. Realistically a Mangonel would have about 10 people (so 50 for the 5 ones I have), and about 2-3 for Ballistas (roughly 30 for my simple ballistas). Then my the Double Headed ones would probably need 5 men to operate (so 25 with 5 of them), which all rounds up to ~95 of my 300 Engineers. I would love to bring more equipment, but I also understand how it would be "too much". Without knowing just what the enemy has, or how big the battles are, I cannot balance this number by myself, so I rely on your words. But I do think 15 ballistas. I may even tinker the number of Pioneers a slight bit if I end up with 200 spare ones.

For the record, Im probably gunna throw some of my arty units on that tower. Not only can they give a spell that will protect it against projectiles, but it give them an advantage with the elevation.

@TJByrum Can I make the last minute adjustement of a flmaethrower? I figured that having all of this dragon theme and flammable oil, the only thing missing from my nation is a dragon themed flamethrower.

PS: I really liked the artist impression of the ballistas, so I decided to make a 3D model of the Wyvern. Here is the WIP.

@6slyboy6: Okay, 5 mangonels and 15 ballistae sound good. Adjust your bio as needed and you can post in the Bio tab.

As for the flamethrower, I'll need to review it, but if it's anything like Greek fire then I don't think it'll be a problem.
