Name of Ship: The DNS John Hancock
Type: Battleship
Class: Damnation-Class Battleship
The Damnation is a unique Battleship class. It is quite stale in design and function, but it serves it's function very well. The Battleship was made to be sort of a 'Lone Wolf' able to completely function for long duration without fleet assistance. While it still serves a vital role of a "Wall with Guns" in smaller fleets. The class name was given to the 'Damnation' to mark the fate of any Enemies who dare to take on the Battleship alone, thinking it is just a lost Sheep. The opponents will soon figure out they have found the Wolf and not a Lamb.
Layout:
The Damnation is very compact in its corridors. Long Five feet tall hallways that lead to massive rooms. Their is few of these rooms and each is contained in the center of the ship. One usually leading into another. The Quad Core Fusion reactor in the heart of it all. Another notable room is it's large cargo hold. Almost taking a forth of the ship, storing months worth of Ammo, Rations, Equipment, medical supplies, etc. The Damnation's are built this way to make as much space as possible for it's thick armor and weapons systems. Its command center, located at the front, had advanced targeting networks with a officer in charge of each separate weapons system. It's thrusters are composed of a Quad main rearwards-facing sublight engines with thirteen smaller thrusters to control maneuvering movements. Allowing it to to keep up with the slower Battlecruisers. One large centered FTL drive rests above all the other Thrusters.
Weapons:
The Damnation is built around the concept of taking down multiple ships of it's class or smaller. At least scaring them off with the thought of the ship becoming a trap for other ships. The weapon of these ships are vast and large, many of them hidden under meter thick blast shields, waiting to be revealed when the enemy is at range. It also carries a complement of Aero-space fighters for ground support or the elimination of Ground Anti-Captial ship weapons.
The Broad sides of the Damnation are
8 800mm Broad side Artillery Cannons. Four on each broadside. They fire a Phased Plasma round meant to penetrate enemy armor with ease and fry electrical systems that weren't already blown apart by their massive Cannons. These cannons fire quite slow, taking a few minutes for the autoloader to reload a whole broadside. To keep the pressure on enemy ships, it is armed with
12 100mm Repeating Autocannons: Scattered topside of the ship and the Keel. Each firing
a Titanium Fusion round meant to pierce the ships outer armor and set the interior ablaze.
To break into the armor, the enemy shields must first be taken down. Luckily the Damnation is equipped with
4 Quad-Linked Giga Charged Beam Lasers. Two pairs of the lasers are found Topside and at the Keel of the ship. Using a special 'EM Crystal' to magnify a power burst from the ships reactor. The beam's overload a ship's reactor shutting the shields down. Even possibly shutting a ship's entire system down from the reactor being overloaded and bursting.
To deal with smaller ships the Damnation carries
40 Heavy Rail cannons scattered around the ship and
4 MAX missile bays. The Railgun's projectiles fly at incredible speeds, easily tracking and hitting smaller targets. Piercing them with a charged hybrid round that can be can mean death to a ship with no or weaker shields. While the Pods are located one hundred Meters forward of the Broadside cannons, each carry up to 100 Anti-Ship missiles. Usually used to pick off Frigates and Cruisers while the larger guns engage Capital ships.
As an absolute last resort, the Damnation can fire up to
3 Thermonuclear Warheads. The Warhead is carried in a small 'stealth' casing. Designed to be completely unseen by the enemy as it's shell carries a Radar ECM script the makes it disappear on most ship's radar systems. Only seen by the naked eye. The effects to any ship's shields or armor is devastating. The blast radius is large enough to cover several ships with the deadly explosion and radiation that is damaging to electronic systems.
Defences:
For anti-fighter and missile defense the Damnation holds
32 Laser Point Defense/Flak Cannons. Scattered around the the ship. Additionally a small fleet of
AeroSpace Fighters is carried on the Battleship. Forty of these ship exit their hangers located broadside of the ship, two hundred meters behind the Cannons. They are used as Anti-Fighter and Anti-Surface Weapon Platforms.
The armor of the Damnation is composed of Eighteen feet of Depleted
Uranium reactive Armor. The hull itself is two feet of
Rolled Tungsten. While it carries a
Mk8 Directional Shield. The shield can only cover one side of a ship at a time, but it usually 1.5x stronger than a standard shield of this class. It can quickly move the shields to any direction and is one of the most reliable in the Galaxy, having the least amount of Shield bleed in any Standard Dominion Battleship.
Crew Compliment:
~4500 Crew mates with 40 Pilots.
Other Capabilities:
With so many other Capital ships, The John Hancock carries a A.I. appropriately named, John. While not truly intelligent, the AI helps with targeting of the vast weaponry of the Battleship. It also creates possible tactics and strategy with a % of success at the discretion of the Captain. It's biggest role is acknowledging the Battle Space surrounding the Hancock and picking appropriate targets through knowledge from the ship's class, Battle Reports, and the current range of the Targets. Allowing the Ships to easily take on multiple targets with maximum proficiency.
