If you use quote, it tells you who you're quoting. Alternatively you can use @mention, which does this: @Cannon011. You can find both at the bottom right of the post you want to reply to.

@Poi So if I want to RP to a certain post all I have to do is mebtion or quote it? That seems hard to keep track of.

@Cannon011 I'm personally a little bit confused on the question. :)

So if you're looking to reply to an RP or thread to show interest, you need to click on the link to that thread on the page, then make sure you're in the "OOC" tab (located at the top of the first post on any page of that thread) to say so or post a character sheet. If you're looking to discuss something in an RP you're a part of in the OOC tab, then yeah, usually we use the "@Mention" or "Quote" buttons to specifically reply to statements/posts from others, so that we don't get lost in the clutter because it will give that person a notification to say that you specifically were looking to reply to them.

If you're posting in the "In-Character" tab, then you shouldn't need to mention or quote the post you're replying to unless that's common custom for that specific group, because everybody is contributing to the same story, so everybody is... essentially replying to everybody. Again, of course, if the RP in particular mentions the folks involved in the reply to any post on the IC tab, then sure, follow custom.

EDIT: And the "post Reply" button is in reference to the thread on the whole. It means reply to the thread, so your message pops up last on the page and is added to the discussion/RP. It's only replying to a specific person if you're mentioning that person. Otherwise, it's a broad use of the term "reply."

@ScoutSo... If I find an RP I like and join it, how do I RP in the IC tab? There are lots of replies in there to the main post, how do I know which main post reply is directed at me, and how do I make sure my reply is directed at the person I'm currently interacting with?

@Cannon011 Oh, um... posts aren't organized in outline format.

Just a single thread of (un)consiousness.

Technically, the Reply always responds to the very first Original Post. If you wish to reply to a particular post, that's where the Quote function comes in handy.

@Cannon011 I hope these answers get to the bottom of what you're looking for. ^^" I'll admit, I'm still a little confused as to what you're asking.

Greetings Stranger,

* * * * * * * *

I’m not surprised to see your kind here. Many adventurers have traveled this way since the recent troubles had passed. No doubt you’ve heard about the tragedy that befell the community here at the Guild. Some say that the Guildfall, bane of role players, is slowly enveloping the community once again. I don’t know if I believe that, but I have noticed from time to time that posts or players will mysteriously disappear. They disappear without word and without notice, hidden by the leaders of our community. Maybe it’s nothing. But rumors and sideways glances seems to trail in their wake. You see, shortly before Guildfall had occurred similar disappearances were common as well and strange rumor began to ravage even the most common parts of the guild. But until more evidence is uncovered I’ll remain here within this community and so should you. You’ll find interesting role play ideas across all the various topics categories here on the Guild and a few of mine or ones that I participate in as well. However, I would make sure you save your own information before the shadow that fell over the Guild before the fall once again consumes us all. But if you’re still alive before then, I’ll be more than happy to accomodate any role playing needs you may have if I can.

You should talk to some of the others, too. Guildmod has sent you a PM package to add with your new arrival and there are any number of veterans who are more than qualified to answer your questions. Maybe they can tell you more.

In character, the standard means that isn't chaotic is to simply start typing your response and either @mention the involved players and/or mention the characters involved in the interaction.

RP interactions, generally speaking, are a continued story, and your response is a small progression of the timeline from your character's perspective. You don't necessarily need to do the quote gig, especially if it's a 1x1 RP, where you simply continue the story back and forth in a line of posts.

Assuming I understood the question.

It may be helpful to go to a forum and read a few posts in an RP to get an idea of how the layout works.
