@AdvancedJ3lly I got a cool idea.

Our mission is that we're given a letter/crate/Mcguffin which has to be delivered halfway across the universe, we're told not to open the letter/whatever or we'll be killed.

Think of it as Oregon Trail but Grimdark.

Might as well throw my 2 cents out there again.

Elysian drop troops vs orks. First, securing a landing zone and then just being super disruptive from there (cutting supply lines, sabotaging vehicles, rescuing prisoners, etc.)

Then later there's a giant plot twist thing and we have to do something way crazier then what we were originally sent to do.

Just a thought.

I don't know that "Escort the McGuffin for forever and a day" would really work as an Only War plotline. I could see it working for Rouge Trader, Dark Heresy, or Black Crusade, but with Only War our PCs are otherwise inexorably attached to our Regiment, and the PCs aren't getting off-world on their own.

@AdvancedJ3lly

Ork Waaaagh, attempted re-taking of a fallen Forge World, defensive action against a rapidly awakening Necron Tomb...

It seems like Drop Troops (be they Elysian or otherwise) are the consensus as to the Regiment choice, which could open with the cavalry arriving in a massive battle and turning the tide, then segueing into overall siege warfare with our regiment acting as a strike and recon element.

I'm in favor of that idea.

Personally, I like the idea of Imperials fighting Dominates more than either of those two taking on Orks or Dark Eldar. Orks/Orcs are a sort of cop-out in my opinion. War is a horrible, brutal thing, and making one side essentially a bunch of savage monsters that want to do nothing but "Kill da 'umies" takes away from the roleplaying.

Why would a character feel remorse killing an ork? Everyone agrees the galaxy would be a better place without them. They are literally not even human.
What about a recidivist? Sure, a lot of Imperials feel the same way about "traitors" as they do orks, but it's a little harder when there's a human face staring back at you, fighting for the same reason as you, with a home, family, a life. It forces characters to have a little more character.

It also opens the door for interaction between enemies other than with bullets and las-bolts.

That's my two-cents. If y'all just want to have a good 'ol time slaughtering greenies or space elves, that's fine by me. I'm just vomitting my opinion.

as your the DM, we honestly are going to be doing whatever you want us to do. If you have an easier time thinking up an idea against the dominate (which would be my preferred enemy behind fighting some chaos cultists) or putting down some other sort of rebellion in the ass end of the Imperium.

Putting down a chaost cult incursion is also an option. An imperial world overrun with one or more cult influences and now everything has gone to shit. You still get a lot of personality because, those cultist faces are human. There is all manner of devestation and crazy shit to encounter in chaos controlled territory that will make characters vomit or lose their sanity.

Or maybe we come face to face with actual lost and the damned regiment. that would be a good mind-fuck for a lot of soldiers.

As for regiment. Ya, elysians are cool. I mentioned Brimlocke dragoons(or any mechanized regiment) because that also gives us some options. We can ride around in a chimera and assault enemy lines, do recon, etc. simply having a vehicle for deployment, redeployment and fire support keeps a lot of options open.

Its ultimately your choice what we do. I don't mind either way. I'm satisfied enough with the fact that everyone likes my Elysian drop troops idea.

@AdvancedJ3lly

ultimately you decide on our regiment as well. So whatever regiment type you feel is easiest to work with for stories is what we will use.

I like the idea of putting down a planetary revolt. It leaves for a lot of options. Perhaps a cult is behind it, or tau diplomacy, or genestealer, etc.

I want to run a game y'all want to play in, so I'm open to suggestions and criticism. Unless anyone has a problem, I'll work on getting up an RP thread tonight or tomorrow.

Honestly, best advice... Be in charge and make the call. Leaving too much up to the players will usually derail things sooner or later. Again as you can probably tell, we all have a slightly different image of what it is we want from this. And its impossible to accommodate everything.

This is especially problematic if it tends to be one or two players consistently getting their way in group decisions like this. it cuts down on a lot of argument to just have the DM make executive calls for the smaller decisions and details.

We are all into 40k enough that it wont drive any of us away from this I would think.

Posted a thread for the RP. It's likely to get edited over the next few days as I realize glaring mistakes and things I missed. I just wanted to get something up.
