Carrying around a heavy weapon does actually limit you a lot in this system. especially at the earlier stages when you can't up your attributes all that much

Yes, as heavy weapons aren't really ones meant to be carried around, which is why you still have a standard infantry weapon issued to you. You aren't an automatic rifleman, you're a heavy machine gunner. The heavy stubber is a static weapon, so it's mobility penalties shouldn't be a factor when properly employed. It's very difficult to walk around hip-firing like Rambo without the proper talents for a reason.

@AdvancedJ3lly

yes, obviously I can't hipfire it. but at the same time I still have to carry it around. if i'm not actively using it or bringing it along, what is the point of playing a heavy? only getting to use it 20% of the time? that's lame and boring.

and at the same time I can't carry the shotgun and the ammo, and the stubber plus my kit(even if we trimmed down the useless stuff like the bedroll, that is still a notable amount of weight between the armour, uniform, resperator, etc. Something like 12-15 kg total ontop of 30.... I just can't carry the shotgun. And again, if I abandon the stubber, why am I even playing a heavy?

The main thing is that being encumbered is not the end of the world. You get -10 on mobility related tests, -1 Agility Bonus for initiative and movement, and after 4 hours you have to make a toughness test (which you have nearly a 50/50 chance of passing) to avoid gaining a single fatigue point. After gaining 5 fatigue, you would fall unconscious. So, at the very least, you'd need to be lugging that gun around for 20 hours (assuming you failed every test).

So, that means you shouldn't be swimming, climbing, or doing shit you really shouldn't be doing while carrying a machine gun anyways, and you shouldn't march for an entire day without stopping, which shouldn't happen anyways, heavy gunner or not. You have an 11% chance of passing out after 20 hours of carrying a 30kg gun and that's about the only penalty that should actually effect you. If you think that is too much of a problem, you can always choose a new role, nobody is forcing you to be the gunner.

The only thing heavy weapons impose a large penalty to is when you attempt to hip-fire them (which is a -30 BS and limiting to single shot) which you should not do.

TLDR: Being encumbered shouldn't matter except in rare circumstances when a heavy weapon would be a bad idea to have anyways. So, as long as you aren't like 40kg over your limit, it's fine.

@Ollumhammersong Put. The stubber. On. The servitor. "Problem" solved.

Besides, you and your Comrade would pass it back and forth between you when you're doing stuff in close quarters anyway.

As I mentioned, nothing against you, but I just find the 'put everything on the servitor' solution a lazy workaround. because again I question how this servitor is physically carrying all of the stuff being asked of him. It's just.... not possible. Its not a matter of weight as much as it is a matter of dimensions. Just because one can physically lift a certain amount of weight still doesn't mean he is capable of carrying anything that is equivalent to that weight.

First ten grave chutes, plus a heavy stubber? What else are we putting on this guy? and where exactly on his body is it being stored?

its like D&D, when players just say 'well I put in in my backpack' in regards to anything from a 10,000 coins to a ten foot pole to an entire suit of platemail. its just a 'wave of the hand' kind of explanation that has always bothered me with rpgs.

If it was just the heavy stubber and a few minor things it was carrying, than I would say 'awesome'. Either that or I will have my character and her comrade tag team the weapon and carry it at the same time. Which now that I think about it is probably what should happen anyway.

What you're missing is that the initial idea wasn't 10 'chutes, it was four- one strapped on normally, one strapped on backwards, and looping the servitor's arms through the arm holes/straps of the other two. Now, that's only 60 kg total, which leaves *exactly* enough weight for it to hold your Heavy Stubber in whatever replaced its hands.

i'm sorry but that still doesn't make sense to me. A grave chute isn't the size of a seat cushion. each one has these two little wings that jut out to the sides.

which would make it incredibly difficult to move any part of its arms without these backpack units clashing with each other. Also I said 10 chutes because comrades exist. Maybe it isn't 10, but it is still probably 6-8 total.

and again, total weight of objects is not my concern. it is physical dimensions of everything. Does no one else see how I find the idea of a servitor with a half dozen grav chutes strapped to him ridiculous?

It's no less ridiculous than all the shit Astartes are capable of.

In any case, the only part of the 'chute that's visible in that image are those thrusters, the rest of that's all the flack armor and the uniform, which means the backpack section can't be all *that* bulky.

A. we aren't playing astartes.

B. the visibility of the backpack itself doesn't negate the fact that the wingspan is wider than a human's shoulder width.

@Ollumhammersong

This is how you carry a machine gun/heavy stubber and tripod. Your comrade would likely be lugging the tripod and the ammunition would likely be spread out among the entire squad.

@Nohbdy
I'm with Ollum on the carrying several grav-chutes thing. One thing you guys should all take into account is that by the time wearing the grav-chute is a real problem (you've been wearing it for an hour or two in combat and it's starting to wear you out), you'll have secured the LZ and had an opportunity to ditch your extra equipment properly with your unit or have failed to secure the LZ and died.

Also, if you're expecting heavy combat, it's very likely your additional equipment would be dropped in separate weapon and supply containers to cut down on weight. The Heavy Stubber for example would likely be dropped separate from it's operator.

I was under the assumption this rp would start us off as already inside the hive? with the fighting already starting

The grav chutes would be an admitted necessity if we were starting the rp with a combat jump. But my main point with those is after the jump is complete it's battery only lasts for an hour and it's just deadweight. it is like a parachute. Once you land, you have little further need for it other than to hand it back in and wait for the next drop.

Jumping into a hive seems highly suicidal with all the defence turrets and pointy spires and random building corners and ledges. Unless we were dropping outside the city and moving in.

And yes I know how a machine gun can be carried. its just a colossal pain in the ****. I also need to requisition a bipod as soon as I can.

If you weren't doing a combat jump, what's the point of playing airborne troops? It's like playing an armored regiment but spending the campaign dismounted. :P

I wish fantasy flight had the forsight to do something as in depth as this when they were designing their weapons

there are a bunch of cool homebrew rules for all kinds of things. Anyone know why they gave up on the licence?

I think we should put our sheets in spoilers once they're in the character tab. Looks nicer and you don't have to scroll through other sheets just to find something on someone's sheet.
