"I'm scavenging to say the least, surviving, like everyone else.", He stares at the bag of m&ms, he's not too keen on eating any more chocolates since coming from the underground, he's lost all taste for those sweets. "Thanks but no thanks, I've got my own food." He says apologetically, he revealed a plastic box of jerky which he'd been making since a few days back, "This is monster jerky, dunno if you want any, I mean, it's monster jerky.". Lucas pulled off his gas mask and breathed in the bad air, he could see more cleary though, the woman in front of him looked about 20 years young, her clothing strange but her build seemingly athletic. Lucas tore a length of jerky with his teeth and chewed slowly, he massaged his bearded face as it had been in the mask for the last few hours.

Calvin could see a little irritation on Pam’s face when she responded to him. He guessed that she was afraid of catching something? Whatever. The boy just shrugged and walked over to Pam, thanking her and taking the step she had offered him. He thought that she would literally lift him up, but again, whatever.

The kid then opened up the lid on top of the engine to reveal what was inside. It didn’t look bad, but Calvin knew that this would need a little work to get it up and running. He then got to work on cleaning up the engine, fixing minor flaws and so on.

He then stopped, asking Pam “stay right there for a second, okay?” She nodded and Calvin went to another nearby car to pull out a part that he needed. It wasn’t an exact fit, but with enough duct tape it would work. The boy then went back to the bus, using Pam as a lift once more and then installed the part on the bus.

With that, he stopped using his female footstep for now and went back to the driver’s seat, trying to run the vehicle again. This time, it started normally.

Calvin then proceeded to honk the horn on the vehicle and yelled “the bus is working!”

"Don't keep it off for too long, you know what that stuff does to y-" Before Misty could continue, she heard the loud horn of a bus.

"Who the hell- what-why?" She said, recovering from being startled. She looked toward the direction of the sound.

"Who the hell has a car!?"

Pam as always watched those around her careful of betrayal and most importantly, observing critical skills. The world had gone to hell and she knew that in this environment loners were doomed to fall to the laws of probability, it was the group with enough members to support itself with food, needed goods, knowledge, and defense that would thrive and a boy who was as obviously a mechanical prodigy an asset of great value.

And so it was with that thought she climbed back aboard the bus she’d only seen as shelter minutes and now saw as safe transportation, well as safe as could be expected through the city and who knew perhaps even shelter across the wastes that could carry water and food though that empty space.

As she passed Calvin she paused to hug him as she said ”What a wonderful Man” and would have kissed him if not for her Mask before claiming a seat near the front.

"Uh, I think it's them over there.", Lucas pulled back on his gas mask and pointed towards the few who had just entered the vehicle, it was a bus and somehow, someway, it was still working. A honk of the horn and Lucas began to jog, "Mist, I think your name was, come on, there're others.", Lucas didn't have time to wait for her so he just grabbed her by the arm and jogged towards the bus.

Calvin was excited that his bus was working. He didn’t expect a hug and a compliment from Pam though. The boy honestly wasn’t sure what to make of this woman; on the one hand, there was something strange about her and she seemed at least a bit aloof. On the other hand, Cato did say she was alright. Maybe she was just shy or something? He’d have to get to know her better.

“Thanks Pam,” Calvin responded pleasantly. He looked at her and was about to say something else, but the kid saw something in the corner of his eye. Calvin looked at Cato, said “hey Cato, look at this,” and then proceeded to point at the guy jogging towards the bus while apparently pulling a woman.

The kid then rolled down the driver’s seat window and yelled in their direction. “Hey! What do you want!?” In case the answer wasn’t one he liked, Calvin had his foot hovering over the accelerator pedal.

Misty yanked back her hand from the man when a bus came into view, and shouted an answer to the boy.

"How much is bus fare!?" She called out, her hands cupped around her filter to try and project her voice.

Pam adjusted her things and her suit closures then checked the seal on her mask as she sat waiting for the present situational adjustment happened. She had learned in her survival to save her energy till it was needed; to act as a predator.

She knew that some people saw it as a reason to distrust her and to tell the truth she didn’t care, this was about survival. Already her environment was shortening her lifespan by attrition and made her elder years cause to consider self deletion.

Man had been the Apex predator of planet earth till the planet decided to show him his hubris. Pam had plans because without them her survival chances became worse. She saw herself as accepting her primitive condition and using everything she’d learned to enhance her chances. Man had gained strength to stand above the beasts of the earth because man cooperated in groups and group dynamics was at the core of human sanity.

Presently her eyes were on Calvin whom she saw as three times more valuable than a powerful fighter type; fighters died early while craftsmen were protected assets
