As the sun cracked over the horizon and began to dissipate the fog of the early morning, an elegant woman came into the main courtyard surrounded by a assortment of pillars under the towering presence of a great building. She shuffled her materials together, looking around at the new students to come to this place, a mage school known simply as...

The woman clapped her hands to no affect, the tired travelers sleeping quietly in the morning hours. She let out a sigh, rubbed her hand on her temples before moving her hand in an elegant swish, coating it in a mystical blue aura before forming a small sphere of light that was immediately shot down by a mighty bolt of lightning, creating a sudden loud explosion of sound that snapped the new students awake.

"Ah good. You're all awake. Welcome new students to the Arcanium. You have journeyed here to us, no doubt, in search of knowledge and guidance in the arts of the mystic." She allowed a pause for some subtle murmurs that always occur this time of year when they fail to realize this wasn't a statement that required an answer. She shuffled her materials in her hand clutching them close to her chest, and cleared her throat to speak once again. "Follow me." She spoke with a direct clarity as she turned in place walking towards the entrance to the large building that the students were not able to open the day before. She unlocked it and lead the students into the building before beginning to speak once again.

"Here at the Arcanium, we have many materials available to you to assist you on your quests for knowledge." They stepped forward into a massive library, bustling with movement from small fuzzy otters pushing carts full of books and filling the towering room with their squeaking. The library was massive, towering upward for hundreds of flights and expanding deep into the distance making a maze like structure that was intimidating to anyone too afraid of getting lost in the book cases to be overwhelmed by the mass amount of literature. The woman turned back to her new students,"Do excuse them... They had a hard time preparing for your arrival,
they wanted to make sure that every book was in it's place before you were allowed to step in. They are quite the proud workers of course.
She dismissed the otters as if it were simply a natural thing to have tiny otters managing a library, she then jumped as if suddenly realizing something. "Oh where are my manners! I am your attending Head Mistress, Lady Miatri. It's a pleasure my new students, I look forward to watching over you all and your growth. Be sure not to disappoint. She lead the group to a large painting of an elderly, powerful man. "You all may be suprised to find that I'm the one leading the school, as many of you likely came to see this man. Astioth, the Archmage of the Grand Arcanium. Well, he is here. But he's far too busy to mentor anyone in the school. If you can find him... He's more than happy to share his knowledge with you." She let the students take in the image of the wizard.

After the students took in the image, she began to speak once again. Now then, you are allowed to borrow books here in the library, you will find very little knowledge is forbidden to you. This knowledge will come to aid you in your upcoming lessons. Though you must be thoughtful for your fellow students, there is only one copy of any given book in this library, and destruction of this knowledge is punishable by expulsion. She turned away towards a hallway to the right and began to walk, motioning that they were continuing with their tour.

They made their way to an expansion filled with a heavy humidity as well as a wonderful smell of cinnamon and sugar. "This is the wing of the school you will come to bathe, and to eat. The bathrooms are for both the male and female population of the school." Her voice turned stern and serious. "With that in mind you will be attentive to the designated bathing hours. She motioned to the right half of the wing, "In this direction, is the cafeteria. This is where our master chef Piero does his work. You are welcome to approach him any time you feel the need to eat, and he will more than happily oblige you. Remember,
you are not allowed to bring your reading materials into the bath. Do. I. Make. My. Self. Clear?"
She once again paused and heard the murmurs of her students that signified she had gotten her point across. She nodded and mad her way back to the library, and turned to another hall that was located in the back of the library. The walk was grueling and long, allowing the students to marvel at the massive amounts of books and occasionally bumping into a now angry little otter that would squeak at them with a anger of a thousand little weasels. Eventually they made their way to another massive door leading to another wing.

"This is the teacher's wing. This is will be where you come to attend your lectures and your lessons. This is where your mentors will be staying, each teacher has their own quarters that allow them the room to teach." As she said this, a tall man with dark black skin, elegant white hair and piercing red eyes exited from the door. "Ah, master Taihlier. This is a fine morning is it not? These are the newest students to join us here in the Arcanium."
The man greeted her and bowed, "Ah, Lady Miatri. It is a fine morning, I was just performing my research on the affects of frost magic on this morning's fog." He held a small bottle with a swirling fog trapped inside, he turned to the students "Tell me Headmistress. Are any of these students mine this year? I have quite a great many projects in store.
The Headmistress nodded. "Yes, perhaps some will be. If they wish to learn your arts." She turned to the students, "This my little scholars, is Master Taihlier, our attending Destruction Magic teacher. I proudly believe my statement will have no challengers when I state you will find no better Master in the art than he."
The Dark Elf bowed again, "Second only to you, Headmistress. I do not deserve such praise." The lady waved the comment off and dismissed him, which he politely but swiftly went back to his business.
"Now then, these teachers will have regularly scheduled lectures for you to attend, but it is up to you to seek out your lessons. The arts of magic are not for those un-eager to learn them. That being said, you will have your own masters that will be responsible for reporting assessments of your progress. She motioned for them to follow again as they proceeded forward back in the direction of the courtyard, avoiding the left wing tucked under the stairs.

The cold air brushed the students faces as two young men came into view. The Headmistress bowed and greeted the both of them. "These two are Abil and Tarrin Gofid. Two very skilled brothers in their second year, they will be assisting me in displaying to you, your first lesson. The proper art of a mage duel. The mage duel is honorable, by all accounts and fashions. A mage that treads on these sacred rules of combat is no mage at all. First, you bow to your opponents." She turned to the two boys and took an elegant bow to them. She then motioned to the boys. "Then, you state your intent to combat."

The first boy, a silver haired young man dressed in leather and blue cloth, bowed to his elder and spoke, "Headmistress Miatri of the Arcanium, I Abil Gofid, student of the Arcanium, challenge you to combat."

Then the second boy, a simple brown haired young man dressed in more stylish blue clothes pointed at her with an energetic vigor "Mistress Miatri, I challenge you to single combat!"

The headmistress giggles at Tarrin's energetic attitude. "Now then, let us begin." She spoke as she stepped away from the new students and into the courtyard across from the boy. She took a combative stance, her hands distant from her body extended in a stiff ready manner. The two boys got in a ready position, looking more like they were preparing for a race instead of a more elegant stance like the Headmistress had taken. The courtyard felt stale for a moment, with tension so thick you could cut it with a knife. "Begin!" She called out, her voice ringing through the courtyard.

The brothers did not lose a moment, Abil sending blasts of blue energy at Miatri while his brother began to jump about acrobatically sending strong gusts of wind at the master. Without losing any time, a small field covered her hand, intercepting the blue blasts of energy as the wind came and swept her back a bit, forcing her to turn away. Tarrin let out a small chuckle, not expecting her to be so easily knocked her out of her stance and taking the opportunity to run up on the master, his brother called out to him NO! Tarrin wai-" but he was too late. Miatri snapped back to her position holding an orb in her hands of glowing golden light, which she shoved into the direction of the boy now only a few inches away from her. A sharp pulse of energy could be felt as the orb dissipated, sending the boy flying back and tumbling on his face, moaning in pain and defeated. Abil snapped back to attention, mumbling something into his hands as it began to overflow with a cold mist, with a sudden raised voice he spoke a foreign phrase and began to blow a deep breath onto his open palms facing the Mistress. A large blizzard emerged from his breath as he blew, and snow shot around the students in a violent wind causing many to yelp in surprise. Miatri soon countered, a powerful blaze shot from her hands, clashing with the frost and causing a mixture of steam and liquid water to shoot from the clash. As he struggled to maintain his spell, losing his breath, Abil dropped to his knees gasping for air. The Mistress bowed to the two students, victorious in her demonstration.

"Thank you my students. That will do for now." She turned to the crowd of students. "This is the proper form for two mages to do combat. Settling your differences using this method is not encouraged, but is accepted if done in a safe environment. No death is permitted in these conflicts. To cross that line, you will face consequences. Now, if you will follow me, we have one last place to cover before you are allowed free reign of the school. She walked up the steps, past the students, and back into the library. Making her way over to the last hall she had not yet approached under the stairs. Her motion beckoned them to follow as she made her way down a large hall. "This hall leads to the student's quarters. This is where you will be allowed your study space, you will sleep, clothe, and conduct any magical research you must in this space if not reading in the library. You will live among your fellow students, so be sure to be respectful of eachothers privacy. And stay out of each other's rooms after curfew. We don't need any more of those kinds of problems. If any of you are hurt, please see our residing restoration teacher for treatment. If your fellow classmates are sick, seek out a teacher you are comfortable with. From this point on, you have free reign. Find your rooms and settle your belongings. In the morning, you will be assigned your masters and classes you may be interested in attending. Your education is now in your hands, and with it, your potential for success and failure. Your belongings are placed in your designated rooms. With that, I leave it to you. Welcome to the Arcanium my students." The Headmistress made her way out of the hall, leaving the students to their own devices.

Shamir observed the Arcanium's halls, awestruck. So many things to do and to learn and even just to react to. Of course, most of said reactions are just dumbstruck shock and admiration that a place so beautiful can exist.

Keep yourself together, Shamir, he thought, Now, try to analyze what sort of knowledge you need. Healing and Protection, right? You might also want to learn military tactics and administration. Just because you were usurped does not mean that you have to stop your regular studies.

He then noticed Alexander of Tyrania; being a Royal himself, he had been well-schooled in the identities of foriegn Kings and Princes, even those of far lands. The young man knew what Tyrania was, and while that kingdom had a reputation for aiding coups and installing client leaders, Shamir vaguely remembered that his own country was far enough that its own coup was probably not aided by foriengers. Probably. Nevertheless, this was an opportunity in the making, a political opportunity. Plus, the other Prince seemed like a decent guy, if the vague rumors were right.

Walking towards Alex, Shamir would say, "Hello, umm, Your Highness? My name is Prince Shamir of Abazin, recently usurped from his place and position by an unlawful coup. I have come to this place to learn Magic, but I also know of the 'fame' of your own nation, and while I have a personal...fear of it and what it might do, realpolitik demands that I swallow personal qualms and seek out its aid."

A slight bow. "Basically, I want to talk thrones and their regaining; if you or your father can support me on my bid to become Sultan of Abazin, I will be happy to grant trade privileges and troops for future endaevors." Then, feeling ashamed of himself, Shamir would say, "or, you know, we can just become friends..."

Isilfarrel Mornelis & Kyvir Lokerakir

Collab with @hagroden

The Arcanium.

The prestigious academy for magic. It accepted all students, as well as those of all races. Isilfarrel was finally glad to arrive at the establishment. It had been quite some time since she had been in a place of study. The last few months she had spent traveling from the Elvish lands, were...less than ideal, in all honesty. She was ill suited to traveling such long distances - especially in the meager conditions that she had to do such in! She cast a glance over to the hulking man standing nearby her. A Tiefling by the name of Kyvir.

Her slave.

Well, the trip hadn't been entirely fruitless, had it? She had used a good chunk of her savings to be able to purchase such a fine specimen. The man was strong, and both magically and physically gifted. Where all the other slaves had died - he had survived. He had his sword and magic tested by combat, and he had come out on top...but he was still weak. Oh sure, he had strength of arm and magic, but his mind was weakened by being a slave. Right now? He was nothing more than a silent, mindless guard who could do nothing but fight. A loyal puppet was good and well...but a loyal puppet who could think for themselves? Who didn't need to be told what to do at every corner or ordered around? That was what she wanted. He needed some...initiative to take matters into his own hands.

And that is what she'd mold him into here.

A mighty bolt of lightning crashed from above, bringing her out of her thoughts as the speaker began, introducing herself and The Arcanium to the students. Her first impression of the woman, was that she was an old, though powerful mage. Likely the fabled Headmistress. She only gave them but a moment to chatter among themselves, or to respond directly to her words. Isil smiled softly to herself as the woman began leading them into the building they had not been able to enter before and started walking.

"So, Kyvir...what is your first impression of the Arcanium?" She asked her slave as she followed the crowd into the building. With any luck, she could avoid the difficult question of what she was doing with a slave. Not that she couldn't talk her way out of it...but owning a slave was still something most of the weaklings that likely made the majority of this place would frowned upon.

Kyvir Lokerakir

Kyvir stood silently, with his right hand loosely gripped on the hilt of his sword, readying himself to unsheath it at a moments notice. Internally, he had grown anxious; the months following his purchase had been the calmest of his life. In the house of Shields, he would rarely go more than three days without fighting, and a week without him killing was a very rare occurance. Here, with his new Master, he hadn't killed or fought genuienly in months, although it would take decades for him to lose the skills he had, he was unaccoustomed to the passitivity he found himself in.

Kyvir's attentive eyes and ears had taken note of the headmistress prior to the bolt of lightning, however, when it was cast his sword had been nearly unsheathed before he had deemed his Master to be safe.

He paid little attention to the words of the Headmistress, and instead continued to sweep the area with his eyes and ears, making sure there was nothing that could bring harm to his Ward. However, should something happen, he had already decided how and where they would move, all of which in a manner to guarantee her safety.

As the crowd began to move, he kept himself directly behind Isilfarrel at her right shoulder, he gave her room enough that they wouldn't bump into each other, but didn't maintain more distance than that. Hearing her question, he responded in his deep, gravel-like voice.

"The structure is fortified, but under-patrolled."
He stated, almost monotonously. He had learned from a young age to speak as little and efficiantly as possible, and had had all sense of opinion torn from him, allowing him to become as objective as he was capable.

"Well, you certainly aren't wrong." Isil replied with a small laugh. That was something that should be rectified...though, one had to question who would be foolish enough to actually attack this place. Even so, such things should be taken of preemptively. At least if all else failed...he would make for an excellent army leader of sorts. "Although, not quite the answer I was looking for...it helps, a little." An issue to deal with once she was able to. She wondered if there was some sort of disciplinary or other council something she could be a part of here? It would certainly help her plans.

Their conversation was interrupted by the Headmistress continuing again as the tour continued, introducing them...to the library! Isil had to refrain from letting obvious excitement show on her face as the headmistress continued. So many books! Such little time to read them all! She wanted to get started right away, even! But she quelled such childish impulses. No no, she was here for a reason - to further her own prestige and power. What was most curious though, were the otters. How...odd. Not that she hadn't seen some odd things in her homeland that would cause some humans to question their reality, but talking otters were odd even for her.

She dismissed the thought though, waiting until the tour continued before speaking to Kyvir again, stopping briefly in front of the painting of Astioth.

"Astioth." She spoke quietly. "Ever heard of him, Kyvir? He's quite well known in magic circles. Quite the powerful mage, and supposedly immortal." In her own opinion...he was a weak fool hiding away in a tower, afraid to show his true power...just like those morons back home were. Too afraid to act...to lead.

If his face displayed emotion, it would have reeked with confusion. There he was, a giant of sorts, in a room so vast it dwarfed even him, yet it seemed to be empty, aside from the odd looking blocks he had learned where called "books." Slaves weren't allowed to read, and he himself had been the executing sword for many a young tiefling who had broken that rule. He did not know how to read, as such ability would have had him killed.

Stopping with Isilfarrel in front of the painting, looking at the painting with her, then responded.

"No Lady Mornelis. If immortal, he wouldn't hide behind stone, nor allow any to doubt his power."
He answered sternly, unimpressed by the man in the painting. If a man achieved true Immortality, it wouldn't be something people guessed at. An immortal would shower his steps in blood, and let the world stand captivated at his power, not spend his days reading "books" and teaching children.
"If he were Immortal, we would know, not suppose." He continued, cementing his stance on the topic, waiting for her to respond.

"Heh...well, they certainly gave you a good world view." The elf chuckled. "I agree. Although, one can not argue with facts. He has certainly lived for quite a while, complacent in his tower, afraid of showing himself to others." Isil cleared her throat, swiftly changing the subject. "At any rate, this will be our home for the foreseeable future. Make yourself comfortable among these books." The elf looked to the massive bookshelves, indicating them with a hand. Without immediately moving on with the tour however, the elf walked over to a nearby bookshelf and took a random book off of it, walking back over to the Tiefling. She kept her voice low, and stood fairly close to the slave so that others wouldn't be able to hear as she presented him with a book. "Ah...Kyvir. Perhaps read the title of this tome?"

She wasn't sure what kind of education he received from the slavers, but she had a suspicion from what she saw from how they treated them.

He listened to her speak carefully, as he had been taught, analyzing each word as she spoke it and commiting it to memory. "The words of your Master are law, and should be known as such." He stated internally, one of the many rules presented to him as a child, he had been made to memorize the words of his Masters as he spoke to them, and forgeting them for a moment would result in severe punishment, having a finger chopped off. He himself had been gifted with his memory, and could recite every word his Master had spoken to him perfectly. As such, he still had all of his fingers.
Kyvir watched her as well, and when she approached him looked down for a moment, and upon seeing the book his head shot up immediately, glaring forward.

"I can not, to read is forbidden." He stated dutifully, although in a volume matching hers. It had not been stated explicitly, but he knew that many kingdoms condemed the owning of slaves, and he would fall on his own sword before having his master placed under such pressure.

"I see." The elf stated quietly. Without replying further for a moment, she walked back over to the shelves and replaced the book back in its proper place. She'd like to give the Tiefling a bit more direct instruction, but sometimes it couldn't be helped. Most of the students had moved on now and to linger would raise a tiny bit of suspicion. She walked back over, the smaller elf staring up at the massive Teifling with a surprisingly cold expression. If he couldn't even read - he was utterly useless. He wouldn't be able to read maps, books, or anything whatsoever. This needed to be rectified. "I understand your previous masters wouldn't like you to read. It could have caused problems among the more...rebellious ones." Her eyes narrowed threateningly as she continued. "But...I will not be having an uneducated mongrel serving me. Next time I ask you to read something for me for whatever reason...you will do it."

Leaving the threat hang in the air, the elf continued walking, following the stragglers of the crowd onwards towards the next area on their tour. Hopefully, he would take the threat and make the effort to learn. It would at least prove he was willing to do such a thing. If he didn't...well. She knew what types of punishment one could use to make one motivated.

"Yes, Lady Mornelis." He responded quietly, with a short nod. He then turned, and continued to follow her.

The rest of the tour was simple enough. For the most part she remained silent, only offering small bits of conversation to her slave along the way. They passed through various rooms on the tour - the teacher dorms, the cafeteria and luxury wing. In all, Isil was rather impressed. It surpassed even the elvish areas used for magical learning and scholarly pursuits. Even if he was a fool of an old man, Astioth, at least had accumulated a wealth of knowledge in his time. If only he wasn't so weak as to not put it to use. Shame, really. He could do such great and good things with that amount of power, if he wasn't so complacent.

The beauty of the School was lost on the Tiefling, as he had never understood the need or want for such lavish things. In his mind, all that was needed for quarters was a hole in the dirt and he could handle the other needs himself. If it was cold, he could start a fire at will or raise his own body tempature. If it was raining, he could boil the water before it came near his Master. "Your Master is the only thing you need to survive."

It wasn't long until the duel began between teacher and student. Nothing more than a little demonstration, but it was still an excellent opportunity to study and understand the abilities of her peers. The...mage duel. She had read quite a bit about it back home, but this was her first time actually seeing one. She had to admit, the headmistress had some skill and she found herself watching intently until it was over. She even gave a friendly sporting clap for the display before turning to Kyvir again.

Kyvir watched the battle intently, Analysing the moves of each person and predicting their next move. One of the many things he was trained in was field strategy, and he had been trained to organize entire armys at the word of his Master. As the blow was blown backwards, he stepped in front of Isilfarrel, moments before several drops of boiling water would have hit her. Instead, they sizzled on his unflinching flesh for a moment, before evaporating away as he resumed his place behind his Master's side.

"She's quite skilled." Isil sighed with a frown. In such a crowded area, it was difficult to speak as openly as she wanted, but she was nothing if not good with words most of the time. "Tell me Kyvir...if you had to fight her, do you think you could beat the headmistress?"

He nodded softly at his master's comment on the woman's skill, and his ears perked as he heard her sigh, and turned to face her a moment before she spoke.
"Do you think you could beat the Headmistress?"

He responded immiediately, having already determined the answer before she thought to ask it. Watching the woman "fight," he had already discerned a several types of Magic at her disposal. She could create barriers, likely several; as well as use both displacement and fire magic, however, she had shown a weakness he did not have.

"Yes, Lady Mornelis." He stated quietly, with a nod.

"...Oh my." She commented with a giggle and a smile. He certainly was at least confident in his physical prowess, wasn't he! That was good. That was exactly why she had bough him. "You think you can handle the Headmistress. You certainly have confidence." Well, if he was confident that he could...she almost wanted to see him try it. She however, had other ideas about the topic but she wouldn't pry. "I shouldn't be surprised, I suppose after all you've been through. How exactly would you defeat her, then?"

"I would kill her, before she killed me." He stated simply, then continued.
"She will believe herself to be fighting a Student, to kill one would reflect poorly on the Arcanium. I will be fighting to survive, which requires her death. He explained quietly, before elaborating.
"She carries no blade, if she were to summon one, it would take time she wouldn't be granted by my sword. She wields flames, flames that would do little more than lick my skin. She can push me away, but only if I get close enough for her spells. Within that range, a wall of steel couldn't stop my blade, let alone her barriers." He finished, stating all of this with out a hint of pride, or emotion of any sort.

"Ah," Isil spoke softly in her usual public voice. "I see. All of those things are certainly true." It wasn't a bad assessment to be sure. However, he was failing to take into account that she was in fact, the headmistress of this place. He was greatly underestimating her. Granted, she herself didn't care about such things herself but underestimating a foe of any kind was always sure to lead to a swift defeat. He was failing to think ahead, by even a little. "Just be careful - killing in mage duels such as this would reflect poorly on me as well. If you ever get into one, remember that." She didn't need to say more than that to get her point across - besides the tour was moving on already and it seemed like the student dorms were their last stop.

In all, Isilfarrel was unimpressed with the place, aside from the library. The staff seemed competent enough, but they all seemed so...complacent. Well, at least with time perhaps that would change? Well, if she had her way she would only be staying here for a short while. Only long enough to become powerful enough to show those fools back home how wrong and weak they were.

"Ah, Kyvir." She turned to her slave and spoke in her typical public manner. A soft voice, accentuated with a soft smile and typical approachable and friendly attitude. "I realize you likely do not feel very comfortable in this place, but try to make yourself at home. I have nothing I wish of you for now - so feel free to get better acquainted with The Arcanium." She glanced among the other students present. She hardly recognized any of them...though a rather interesting conversation did catch her ears. Highness? Prince Shamir of Azbain? Something about a coup and reclaiming a throne.

Some people simply didn't know to keep such things behind closed doors, did they? That sort of carelessness is probably how the coup happened in the first place. Likely weren't even fit to rule.

"Hmm...I think I will be visiting my quarters for now. Make sure everything is in order and then visit the Library. Maybe see if I can find the headmistress in discussing a few things about this place."

Her quarters took some time to find, the hallway was expansive with finely lined furniture and carpeting. The walls were lined with fine wood framing large arches that expanded upward to support the structure of the hall. Doors lined both sides of the hall, every time Isilfarrel looked in their direction a string of letters burned on the door designating who it belonged to. A spell that was the handiwork of the Headmistress herself without a doubt. The doors were no more than 6ft apart from each other in any given stretch of the hall. Eventually she found her room very deep in the hallway, it took quite some time to walk to it. The door was a chestnut brown, made of the finest wood she had ever seen outside her homeland, and a finely designed door knob that was shaped in the form of a fae cradling a glowing rose with it's wings making the curve of the handle that fit almost to perfection in her hand. If she looked about, it was clear every door had a specially designed handle, one she saw was in the shape of a falcon's head, another in the form of a scorpion making the curve with it's claws and tail. Clearly only the finest craftsman could have designed these doors, and it filled her with a sensation of fine expectation. But as she shifted the door into and open position, it stopped not even half way in the swing. Upon inspection, some of her luggage was in the way. With some effort she managed to push it out of the way to see that her room was overcrowded with her belongings, stuffed in an unorganized fashion to the best of the staffs ability to put it all in. It was underwhelmingly small, containing merely a small shelf space for some books built into her wall, a desk also built into the wall that had an oil lamp placed nicely on the right close to it's edge, a window placed dead across from the door with no curtains, and a bed that took up only enough space to allow the door to swing open. Upon some inspection, the book case pulled open to reveal a small place for clothing storage. But besides a small storage shelf above her bed, this was the entire room. With her things stuffed in, she hardly had enough room to step into it let alone lay down on the bed. It was high quality furniture, the chair was well upholstered and comfortable looking, along with the bed that looked quite soft as her belongings sank into it as if it were embracing the objects with it's entire being. But she wouldn't be able to move the chair back very far at all without bumping into the bed, making it nearly impossible to get into the chair from the side with only a few inches to slide her way into it. It was obvious that this room was standard issue as she could hear noise from above her and from her side. It was truly the finest room that roughly 8 ft could accommodate. Though it was rumored the third years had very fine rooms, evident by the farther distance apart the doors on the right of the hall were.

There was a place where all mages desired to visit.

A place where all wanted to one time capture its view and sight and engrave it deep into the very edge of their memories, but only a few succeeded to.

People knew it by a name:

The Arcanium

It was a promise of power

A glimpse of a new world

A passage of knowledge

A light shining open the future of mortals

But only a few may reach it. Those who dared, and willed to succeed.

Garuda Pacifier

"Time to battle!"

The journey of a thousand miles ended right here.

"The Arcanium..."

The prestigious academy that many desired to attend.

"Indeed it is extraordinary..."

Throughout the orientation, Garuda was taken aback by the sheer size of the school. From the library, to the teacher's hall, to even the specific bathing section. There was absolutely nothing here that could be taken as inconvenient. For the mage to complain of course. But perhaps the most interesting section of the school would be the dueling arena. This would be the place he would be getting along for at least a year here. Of course, along with these conveniences were strict policies regarding the etiquette and usage of these facilities. But Garuda had no problems with it.

After a long walk was the interesting part, the duel arena. No, not the duel part. Their fight was too one-sided, and the fight wasn't enough to show the true power of the combatants, specifically, their flexibility of each duelists. Still, their fighting style, power and mind, he would have to remember it. The most important part of the orientation was the challenge etiquette. Yes, the thing that Garuda would definitely have to keep in mind, since he would be going for many others in this academy.

But he didn't even need to wait long, as he was immediately approached by one student after orientation was over and Garuda returned to the battle arena. He had chocolate brown hair and deep blue eyes that glowed deeply, reflecting a side of him that the uncompassionate would never be able to see: inner determination.

"Hello there. Do you want to spar with me? You look strong..."

'His manner of speech was not very impressive, but who can say the same if his inner will were the same...'

Garuda thought as he glanced up and down his attire. He was wearing the typical mage clothing seen everywhere: a robe that covered from top to bottom.

"Well, your form is certainly less intimidating. But if you had asked, it would be rude of me not to accept it, right?"

Garuda turned to apply for a dueling session, and when he was finished, he turned back to the boy.

"Now, let us proceed. With utmost sincerity, I accept your request."

The two duelists wasted no time taking their position in the field, in two opposite sides to each other, waiting for their opponent and referee to finish their preparation. As the referee beginning their countdown, Garuda began taking stances, his two hands raised in front of him as if he was holding a ball his hands. A rather aggressive stance, comparing to his opponent's: a more defensive and more 'ready-to-cast-spell' kind of posture. Tensions were also raised, but much less comparing to the earlier battle, since most students were busy with their own business.

And then finally...

"Begin!"

Not a second after the signal was called, Garuda charged forward, his two hands burst into red flames, as he quickly closed the distance with the young boy, his countenance fixed firmly with aggressiveness onto his eyes. The boy was caught off-guard, not expecting how fast Garuda was. And he quickly paid the price, as a punch was sent his way. A fiery uppercut to his abdomen. And the fist landed gracefully on its target.

For a brief moment, Garuda thought this might have been a quick and boring fight. But as the boy was sent flying, he quickly regained his balance, planting his feet onto the ground and used frictions to bring the fist's momentum to a stop. After regaining balance, he quickly murmured something, as water began to stimulate around him. It quickly gathered up into a water ball, and was sent to Garuda's way. He certainly had good reactions and a fair common sense, since water countered fire. But such a simple attack would not be enough. Not even close.

Garuda simply dodged to the right to avoid the ball, but as his vision of his opponent was still vague, the boy suddenly appeared right in front of him, his fist raised to attack him. A fist that was made of water, shaped like a drill, and hardened by his magical ability. The fist that found his way on its target as well. An ironic tactic, as Garuda just previously used it against him.

But unlike the previous case, despite having a hardened water drill, the brown-haired boy's physical ability was considerably weak, as Garuda only flinched a bit from his position, and quickly sent a reply to him. Garuda grabbed his arm, the one that was used to attack him, and raised him all the way up, his head matching Garuda's head level, before finally swinging him away from him. This was a lot more hardcore, and a lot more difficult to regain himself.

This was it.

It was the perfect moment to end the match.

With all his might, Garuda focused a part of his energy into his hand, as the natural air flow around him began to change. And then suddenly, a glowing white ball was materialized, hovering a few inches from his hand. Most of the remaining spectators watched in awe at the display of such bizarre magical ability. The ball was only as large as a tennis ball, but it shone like a thousand shooting stars. And its powers...

The Natron particles...

Garuda then threw the ball at the boy. And as he expected it, the boy was unable to retreat from the explosive blast, and was at its mercy. The ball made contact with the ground, and immediately exploded, sending the amount of energy around a ton's worth of force onto the boy. He was sent flying again, and this time was for good. The boy landed at the edge of the arena, his face planted on the ground, as he failed to stand. And once a duelist failed to stand up in a duel...

"Victory is mine."

He said, as he straightened his suit, his countenance not breaking from his adversary. He wasn't worried, as the attack, the power of the blast and landing position was all in his calculation. The guy was ok, though he might need a little bit of time before he could stand.

Garuda simply waited for him to fix himself, before approaching him.

"Be proud warrior, you fought well."

With all the honesty possible. Speaking of raw strength, he was still incapable of becoming his worthy opponent, not even close. Yet, for all that might, he had a good mind, and a determination fairly proven to be adequate. If he continued on this path, he might someday be worthy enough. Perhaps...Hopefully...

With that said, Garuda simply turned away and walked out of the arena. It wasn't exactly a satisfactory fight, but he would make do with it.

Interacting with: Shamir@Letter Bee

Alex jolted up from his slumber as the explosive noise shot through the courtyard. He was among the many slumbering from the long journey. Awake and well, he moved to hear what the lady had to say. Finally, the great gate opened and let him inside. He had tried yesterday but the tower was locked tight. As he walked into the tower, he was immediately overwhelmed with the cheer size of the halls inside. That sensation did not vanish when they entered the library. He instantly knew he'd spent hours if not days wrapped in those books. The smell of old paper lead his mind astray as he imagined what knowledge was buried here. He also wondered if there was less 'natural' knowledge to be find. Surely some wizard somewhere would have the same ideas as he had?

But then Lady Miatri said something that recaptured Alexander's attention. She mentioned Astioth. The Archmage of the Great Arcanium. The man Alexander had a thousand questions for. Sadly, he was not around. In fact, apparently he was far too busy. But what followed almost sounded like a challenge. Alexander figured he would be too inexperienced yet to meet the great Archmage. For now, books and teachers would feel his curiously appetite. But maybe in the future, maybe when he had learned enough he'd search out the Archmage.

As they marched back into the library, after a short visit to the wing holding the baths and cafeteria, Alexander's mind made him absorb all of his surroundings. With his head clearly in the clouds he kept looking left and right. Until, of course, he bumped into one of the little otters. "Oh I'm sorry!" he exclaimed. But the little creature would have nothing of it. It squeaked and waved its little fist at him. "Hey, no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean that. What now that isn't required. Hey... do you understand me? Can you understand what I'm saying?"

If the little creature understood him, then it was far too busy being angry to show him. Eventually he went some other way, squeaking all the way with frustration. As Alexander looked at him going. Feeling genuinely guilty that he bumped into the little creature. Maybe he'd find some kibble to give it to the otter. If they ate it. And if he could find said otter. But he was left with a question. Did they understand him? If so, could they help him find certain books about certain subjects? But Alexander wasn't given the time to ponder as the group of students was led on. Until they reached the teacher's wing.

Attending Destruction Magic teacher? Alexander immediately looked wide eyed at Master Taihlier. A dark elf no less! The young prince stored the Master's mental image. Alex immediately felt a feverish fire burning. Destruction Magic was one of the arts he came to study. His father wanted it, but his brother would need it. Tyrania was gearing up for conquest. Everyone knew it. The only thing holding them up was the promise of Alexander's ruinous power. He couldn't come back as a petty fire mage or something. He didn't want to fight. He wanted to overpower and dominate. In the depth of his heart, he already wished someone great like Master Taihlier or Lady Miatri to be his assigned master.

A mage duel? Well, it served as a good presentation of everyone's powers. For a moment, even Alexander could feel the tension. But then the battle began. And he called it a battle, which he disliked. Neither forces felt like they were dominating the field. Certainty Lady Miatri was in control, but Alexander couldn't shake the feeling that she was somewhat holding back. She countered gracefully, but there was no utter domination of the fight. Maybe she wanted to make clear what the rules were without making the fight too serious. But Alexander knew that his style of fighting wouldn't be like that of the brothers. He didn't plan on jumping and moving around. No, he'd anchor himself to the ground. Protect himself with wards of dark magic as he released the strongest spells he knew.

As a young guy, how could Alexander not grin as the Head-Mistress told them to stay in their rooms after curfew. They were young, so he'd imagine that rule to be broken on occasion. Though it wouldn't be him who did it thought. He couldn't imperil his future. When the Head-Mistress released them and left them to their own devices, Alexander sprinted towards his assigned chamber. He noticed the finely wrought crow's head door knob and took a moment to marvel at the fine craftsmanship. Back in Tyrinia, such finely crafted object would be worth quite a bit of gold. Yet here it seemed to be standard issue.

Unlike most others, Alexander did not come with a collection of books. Sure, he had some knowledge but most of it was informal and he remembered that. He didn't take any books with him because he didn't think he'd need them. And he felt like he was right. There were clearly plenty of books to be read in the library. What he did have was a few empty books, some quills and ink. Alexander was prepared to copy quite some knowledge into those blank books. Further he had his clothes. Not too many but enough to at least be presentable. But that was it. Alexander figured that if he required things, resources or anything else, he could just go out into the town and buy them.

After quickly observing his room, he took a blank book, quill, ink and quickly made his way back towards the library. Obviously there was no time to waste. But before he could get back to the books, he was stopped by Shamir's introduction. Alexander raised an eyebrow when the strange person before him introduced himself as a usurped prince. Wasn't that a rather dangerous thing to do? Maybe Shamir felt that he could trust a fellow royal.

"Thanks you that you would... trust me with this. And for willing to swallow your own personal qualms. I'm sorry that you see my country and my father as infamous." he was sincere when he apologized. He didn't like Tyrania to be infamous. He wanted it to be the heart of progressiveness. A place for a better life for everyone. Of course, some rumors had escaped that a certain quantity of undead had seen walking around. Luckily his father was capable to disassociate Alexander from the events. Mostly. Maybe some teachers here would know but the vast population just kept feeding the rumor mill and play the guessing game.

"I can't talk for my father but I know he is a very busy man. In a few years, that won't change." Alexander said, referring to the obvious threat of invasion. Everyone knew that Tyrania was a heavily militarized kingdom these days. "And I'm afraid his influence will have little effect so far." Alexander followed up, feeling rather guilty. Here stood a person who was willing to swallow his pride and qualms to seek out aid. But Alexander knew he couldn't give it. "So how about we just start out as friends?" he followed up, smiling and extending his hand for Shamir to shake.

Blixxi felt like a child lost in a crowd as she followed along with the massive clod magelings. She'd only been on the surface for two weeks, and she'd yet to adjust to the presence of these giant races towering over her: 'clods' in the parlance of her home-city. Subterranean gnomes stereotyped them as oblivious, violent and clumsy. The number of times she'd nearly been trod upon since leaving her underground habitat seemed to support this view. The eagerness with which they rushed to clobber one another with spells added to the evidence. Even now she had to dodge around robes and boots as the crowd moved in to get a closer look at the silly duel. 'Typical clods,' she thought to herself. No wonder they'd yet to master the thaumaturgic combustion engine and still chucked fire from their hands like crude orc shamans.

As the sounds of arcane combat resonated through the hall, the small gnome girl wound her way back to the library. The parrot perched atop her shoulder, whose colored feathers appeared as an animate extension of her own rainbow garb, craned it's head backward apparently more interested in the sport than her owner. The sound of spellfire dampened as the gnome penetrated deeper into the maze of book shelves. An otter regarded her with suspicion as she passed, bright colors and chaotic pigtails at odds with the pristine, orderly library around her. Her irises, one blue, one green, gleamed as she took in the amassed knowledge. In Mechanus, a city dominated by caste systems, only members of the Enchanters Guild could gain access to such a wealth of knowledge. To all others, magical knowledge was proscribed, aka illegal.

As she passed a row of particularly aged book spines she let her short, pudgy fingers brush along the bindings. She felt a tingle, pleasant at first, turn to a shock, and before she knew it sparks flew between her hand and a specific tome. The vulnerable cover ignited, and the parrot flapped in alarm. "Idiot...idiot...idiot," he repeated. Blixxi, used to living with the curse of wild-magic, reacted quickly, patting out the fire before the spellbook received more than a mild singing. After glancing about to make sure she'd not been observed by any otters, she continued deeper into the book-stuffed bowels of the library. She had no idea how the surfacers would react to wild magic. She'd seen no hint of its weirdness above-ground so maybe she could remain undiscovered. 'That is until I wind up in one of those stupid duels and turn some unlucky clod into a turnip,' she groaned to herself.

Isilfarrel Mornelis

Her quarters took a bit of time to find. The hallways, expansive and finely decorated as they were meant one had to travel quite a bit if they were unfamiliar with them. At least the decor was much to her liking - though one thing definitely bothered her about the hallways. The doors to the rooms themselves. Certainly, they were quite decorated. The doors themselves were a finely crafted marvel...but they were barely six feet apart! An uncomfortable feeling was forming in the pit of her stomach. Surely, surely the rooms themselves would be bigger? Surely this place, as a beacon for education as it was wouldn't let people study in such cramped spaces? That was a research accident waiting to happen, especially with more...volatile spells. At least after a bit of walking she finally found her room, the fae decorated handle much to her liking. It brought a small smile to her face. Ah, she missed Thien'lotal ever so slightly, didn't she? She couldn't deny it, if she wanted too. What she didn't miss...was the peace and stagnation. The rooms at least, must have been tailored to the individual student then? For a very brief moment she was slightly impressed.

At least until she opened the door.

It only opened halfway. She pulled on the door, and then made another attempt at opening it. THUD. She narrowed her eyes at the door. It sounded like something was blocking it. Well, it was at least able to open enough for her to squeeze her way in. Ugh, good thing she wasn't built like Kyvir or she'd never get in. Though, she supposed if she was she could just tear the door off its hinges. Any amusement that thought might have brought though, was quickly drowned in a layer of sheer disbelief as she laid eyes upon her 'room' if it could be called that.

"...oh they can't be serious." The elf spoke in clear disbelief as she managed to squeeze her way in the room, observing the small room around her. Aside from the fact her luggage had been strewn about in a clearly disorganized fashion without regard or care for even the tiniest bit of organization...the room was barely the size of a pantry! And so...sparsely decorated! This was nothing how she expected it at all! She breathed deeply, closing the door behind her, walking through a few of the boxes that had been stuffed into the room. Ugh, how was she supposed to work in such a cramped space!?

"Fine, fine. Just because you deserve better," She thought to herself. "You...are fine. Calm. Calm, Cal-Wah!" The thought turned into a startled yelp as her foot caught itself on the edge of a nearby stack of boxes, causing the elf to trip and take a floor to the face. The box on top of the pile which was a box of her clothing, fell over and landed right on top of her head.

"...Okay, okay, Isil. You can do this. You've dealt with worse than cramped living spaces." She grumbled as she sat up, pushing the box off of her head only to find her pair of lacy, black, clearly not typical standard issue elvish stockings and garters hanging off the side of her head. "Oh...so that's where I put you."

Shamir shook Alex's hand, and said, "Thanks; sorry for, well, bothering you with this. I can be dense sometimes. So, let's be friends, then; that's great! Sorry for the exclamation mark; I hope I didn't bother the librarians."

He then sits down on a nearby stool and smiles. "Anyway, this place is really grand; just like a palace, only one of learning. I really hope to learn how to heal and protect here; that's the specialty I plan to take, healing and protection magic." The young man then looks around at what other students were there, before continuing, "People are really awestruck, it seems. I can't blame them, as I said before, this place is like a palace of learning." A pause, then, to allow Alexander to process Shamir's words and maybe even reply.

"Uh....sorry for being a chatterbox," Shamir said. "I just tend to be like that sometimes. So, how are you? And, yeah, I do trust you; you are a fellow royal." Shamir decided not to bring up the real source of Tyrania's infamy, aka its preperations for widespread conquest. Necromancy...well, like all right-thinking people, Shamir distrusted it, maybe even hated it, but he couldn't fault Tyrania for using that practice; it was a would-be conquering empire, after all. So any distaste for that was blended in with Tyrania's conquering ambitions.

Garanin's peaceful slumber was rudefully disturbed by the sound of a bolt of lightning crashing, forcing him up to his feet within moments. "Arrrh, what are ye-Oh." His grumbling cut short by him remembering where he was, Garanin at least had the decency to rub the back of his neck in apology. "Sorry 'bout that."

Yes, awake they were, now if not before. Garanin hardly paid attention to the others around him as the tour began in earnest, though he did notice a male tiefling and a female elf who seemed to be glued at the waist to each other. Oh-ho-hoooo, little lassy's got 'erself a bodyguard, does she? Must be somebody important. The sight of the library was particularly impressive, a storehouse of knowledge grander than many castles had within them.

He hoped to find a wealth of knowledge on enchantment, or else his time would have been wasted. Surely there would be dozens of tomes on the Dwarves' Gift, though? There had to be! And knowing that each book in the Arcanium was unique was important knowledge in and of itself: it meant that if you needed something, you couldn't dilly-dally when it came to actually getting it, lest some other student whisk it away before you even came looking for it.

As the tour continued, Garanin found himself dismayed at the fact that there would be magic duels. It made sense, but hearing it was especially unfortunate. He could hardly make a sword or shield glow in the black of night, how would he be able to keep up with that kind of power? There was no way, and he knew that he couldn't get by on pure combat skills: each of the other students likely had enough experience with magic to cast a few dangerous spells, and even one could spell his defeat if he got hit. And he doubted that anybody would take kindly to him breaking somebody's ribcage with his warhammer, even if it could be healed. He'd likely have to force a submission if he wanted to win.

They were dismissed shortly after the duel and given directions to where their rooms would be located. Slowly ambling along, Garanin took a careful look at each door, admiring the handiwork. He wasn't a smith himself, but few dwarves could go through life without learning plenty about the arts of crafting, be it with wood or metal. As he was looking at the beautifully-carved doors and doorknobs, however, Garanin found himself staring at quite the humorous scene.

An elf. In fact, the elf girl from earlier, but her tiefling friend was nowhere to be found. She had apparently found her room, and was not very happy about its size, audibly complaining before closing the door behind her. Garanin shrugged and was about to continue onward, but he heard a yelp and a crash.

Should he do something about it? It wouldn't hurt to introduce himself to at least one of his fellow students, even if it wasn't under the most marvelous of circumstances. Eh, screw it.

Quickly moving to the door, Garanin carefully grabbed the doorknob and turned it, pushing the door in and poking his head through.

"Oi, lassy, ye al-" Oh. OH. WELL, THEN.

Pulling his head back into the hall and slamming the door harshly, Garanin cringed at the loud banging sound, then knocked on the door without opening it. "Ahhh...soary about that, lassy. Dinnae realize what ah was walkin' in on. Y'alright?"

Wyvern was perched on the shoulder of the odd gnome in rainbow cloth, with a strange hairdo... or... better known as Blixxi. He observed, with adept eyes the goings on of the above-dwellers, commonly referred to as clods by most gnomes - not his favorite terminology for the above-dwellers. However, on the occasion, the term would slip out, and Blixxi would go wild since it was so unlike him. - His feathers ruffled as a particularly large - and not to mention clumsy - above-dweller stomped past. He could feel his talons vibrate on Blixxi's shoulders. He could half see why his fellow gnomes dubbed them 'clods'... His thoughts meandered away until they reached the large doors of the library, and he gave a small hop of excitement. A library? That large? This was a dream come true! But this brightness was dampened by the lingering thought that as a parrot, he wouldn't be able to turn pages quite so well, and he would have to ask Blix to help him. During his study times when he had requested her help, she was notorious for falling asleep or getting distracted, which made the whole process quite agonizing and painstaking to him.

As they continued down further into the library, he noticed the small otter workers and cooed softly in surprise. Otters? What in tarnation? A bit further into the tour, during the time period whilst they were showcasing the magic duel, Wyv's claws dug deeper into Blixxi's shoulders with agitation as she strayed aweary from the group. "Hey! -" He hissed, "Why did you break off from the group!? There could be important information that you're missing out on!" He continued, glaring - as well as a parrot could - at her. They had wandered all the way back towards the library! Blixxi remained silent either out of fear of exposing her polymorphed friend's true nature or because she was as distracted as ever.Probably the latter. Before continuing deeper into the gargantuan library, they stopped at a book shelf that held a set of well-used books. He watched, with disbelief, as she set one of the vulnerable covers alight in flame, wondering if she had even heard what the head mistress had said previously. - "There is only one copy of any given book in this library, and destruction of this knowledge is punishable by expulsion." He shivered. Blix was already toeing the line, and on their first day yet... He sighed and responded like usual, "Idiot...Idiot...Idiot." He watched her quickly shove the book back to where it had originated from, and, quickly looking around to see that no others watched, whacked her on the head with his wing. Not enough to be frighteningly painful, just enough to hurt a small amount and grab her attention. "It's important that we get back to the group now, so we don't miss on anything else! I swear, sometimes you're just... bird brained!"

"Why do you always worry so much," Blixxi whined at the bird on her shoulder. "If you keep on like this, you're gonna start molting..." The little gnome caught her tongue once she noticed the big, glossy eyes observing her. The otter shuffled his whiskers inquisitively at the pair. "Oh... hi... ummmmm.... do you have anything on..," her attention shifted momentarily to the parrot leaning between her pigtails, "... photomorphic illusions?"

The otter paused for a bemused moment before chirping positively. Blixxi's colorful eyes bounced along the sleek mammal's sinusoidal gait as he loped down the aisle. "...Thanks Blixx," the parrot spoke reluctantly.

The normally bright gnome's face darkened momentarily as she considered how much more she owed her cursed friend. "...Sure Wyv." She then hurried off as fast as her stumpy legs could move in pursuit of the lutrinal librarian.

Isilfarrel Mornelis

Isilfarrel's eyes went wide as she heard a voice from the door. The elf's previous calm demeanor seemingly evaporated instantly. Her head swiveled towards the door, quickly scrambling to untangle herself from the lingerie. Well, this was embarrassing. After a few seconds of untangling she managed to pull off the article of rather risque clothing, shoving it haphazardly back into the box it had fallen out of. Okay, well, at least she had only just decided to start changing clothes and actually hadn't removed any yet. She walked over to the door, shoving a few boxes aside to make for easier entry as she opened the door again, greeting the dwarf on the other side.

A dwarf of all things. She had never met one before, but he looked just like the tales and books described them. Gruff appearance, short and not all too refined looking. He certainly was someone she wouldn't be likely to mingle with all that often unless needed, but doing such a thing here would only make her stick out like a lone tree in the middle of a field, and that was not something she was keen on doing.

"Oh goodness," She said with a small smile, face slightly red from embarrassment. "That was, ahem, not exactly something others were meant to uh, see." Isil gave a sheepish laugh. "Thank you for your concern, friend, just a slight stumble. Just...having a bit of trouble moving in. I didn't realize the rooms were so small. I seem to maybe have...over packed a bit and I've got quite a number of things to find." She moved slightly to the side, letting the dwarf see into her room and the rather disorganized mess that consisted of her belongings.

"I fear I will be here for most of the rest of the day trying to organize everything. I don't even know how I'm supposed to study in such a small space!" Her shoulders slumped slightly, before realizing she hadn't introduced herself to the dwarf. "Ah! How silly of me. I nearly forgot to introduce myself. I am Isilfarrel Mornelis. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sir. I've just arrived from Thien'lotal not too long ago. If you don't mind me asking, are you a student here?" She questioned. Her tone of voice indicated some disbelief that a dwarf of his age could be a student here, but since he was in the student dorms it was a logical conclusion.

Lady Miatri made her way past the countless tomes and encyclopedias that cluttered the walls around her, her long robes trailing slightly behind her as she was careful not to intercept the few busy little otters that shuffled along the shelves totting stacks of books in their little paws squeaking in exhaustion from the stress of their weight. Their focus was unwavering, and none paid any mind to the headmistress as she strode by. A few that were between tasks acknowledged her with a tiny paw wave or a little salute, to which she gave a short nod with a slight smile. Eventually she came to a modest looking door with a slightly crude wooden sign nailed to the wall beside it reading "Headmist-er-ress' Office" pointing at the door in childishly painted on letters. Miatri opened the door and made her way in.

The office was wondrous, albeit a bit messy, with large glass panes overlooking the ocean of the coastline and professional shelves filled with records and scrolls surrounding a lovely wooden desk. The whole room's beauty was offset with giant stacks of papers cluttering the room and blocking parts of the windows as well as towers of tomes being organized slowly by a tiny grey haired otter in a little red bowtie. The Mistress navigated trough the sea of papers and sat down at her desk, sinking with a heavy sigh into a large red leather chair that was as comfortable as it looked.

"Jonathan?" She spoke tiredly as she lifted a brown parchment on the table, catching the attention of the old otter that organized the books, "May I pester you for a cup of tea?"

The otter chattered happily to his headmistress.

"Yes yes rose tea with a spoon of honey will do just fine. Thank you Jonathan." The otter dissapeared and came back to her with a fresh tray of steaming tea that smelled of rose petals and handed her a tea cup complete with a tea plate, scone, and hand made doily that the otter himself took pride in noting he made himself. "Thank you so much Jonathan. You certainly are the most skilled tea maker in the province."

The otter perked up happily and shuffled off. The Headmistress sipped her tea, gasping a little in pain before realizing it was too hot. She stuck out a finger above the water and blew a small gust of wind before taking another sip of the now perfect temperature tea. Jonathan soon returned to her, shuffling to her holding a long parcel wrapped in brown paper. "Oh? What is this? Another gift from father?" The otter nodded with his full body, as his neck was stiff in his old age. She unwrapped it to find it's contents, a long glass bird with loosely attached long stick legs, a small body weighing down a long neck with a small triangular beak sticking out from a cartoonishly drawn face. "Another trinket captured his interest has it?" She looked at a small scrap of paper that explained to her how the contraption functioned.

She placed it's feet on the desk, and as instructed held it's head perpendicular to it's feet before releasing it. The bird rocked back and forth, never losing momentum from where it had started. "I..." She looked at the paper that sounded off a "fwap" as she looked at it once more "I don't get it. What is this?" She turned to the old otter, "What is the point of this?"

The old otter slowly lifted himself into her chair, squirming his way past her arm, and starred at the contraption before tilting his head upward. He soon jumped down, and returned to her with another cup of tea, placing it where the bird dipped. The bird dipped it's beak into the tea, moving back to it's starting position, and dipping back down into the tea. "Oh!" She lit up with an elderly surprise, raising her eyebrows as she looked back at the slip of paper. She scratched the otter's head as she laid down the slip and moved the bird next to another contraption, a row of metal balls that were suspended in a way that they would clack together making one end move up without touching the other and repeating.

"Honestly I don't understand what he sees in these..." She looked at the paper again, reading it over carefully. "Now then, this year's new arrivals are certainly an interesting bunch..." She looked over the list written on the paper. "Multiple royals, a highly credentialed high elf student from the elven academies, a decorated dwarven veteran, skilled mages, and this one is very unusual, a Tiefling slave. She took a sip from her tea. "Very interesting.
I took notice of this High elf girl in the crowd, she seemed quite unusual from the other high bloods to come through the academy. Her application mentioned a disinterest in restoration magic, a shame really she would have quite the talent for it. She owns the Tiefling slave, very unusual indeed. Mannerisms I would expect from a Dark elf than a high elf. Perhaps she would do well to spend time with Master Liyva.
She paused to drink before continuing, "But then again, the last thing I want to deal with is another student busting in my door to complain about their placements... Perhaps she would be happier under the tutelage of Master Taihlier.
Though I can forsee some issues with his Dark Elf blood in the eyes of such a highly celebrated High Blood student.

The otter chattered to her.

"You know I thought they wouldn't be able to find it in the Encyclopedia section, nobody ever wishes to go to the encyclopedia section. But every year, I always get a complaint from someone. She didn't look back to the otter but handed him the now empty cup as if it were a common ritual passing between the two on a daily basis. "One that we should keep an eye on... This young man, Alexander. Hardly a noticeable boy in the crowd, but something felt... wrong. She breathed deep once again. "These other students seem rather easily placed in their respective fields. But keep an eye out for this one, he is a kind boy at heart, but there's something off about him. His aura feels different somehow. Heavier. " She sighed, "Though this gnome girl seems to be someone we need special attention to for sure. Master Rovi has some insight on strange magic, perhaps to him... Perhaps father would have some insight on her strange magic. It's so, random."

The otter squeaked in a questioning manner.

"Oh no no, I doubt any of them would find him." She waved at him.

Jonathan let off a string of chatters. Miatri scoffed to herself.

"Oh pish posh my dear Jonathan. The only reason we see him is because we have the shortcut. It's not that he would be angry to be disturbed, quite the contrary. He would love to meet them, share his knowledge even. She laughed to herself, "But honestly, who would even want to climb 60 flights of stairs? She picked up her plate and looked around her as if expecting her tea to still be their, "Now Jonathan, did you refill the tea?"

The otter waddled back to her with a fresh cup, "Oh I've been meaning to ask, how's Natalie? Was the birthday nice?

The otter perked to her happily and went off on a chattering tangent, speaking affectionately in otter noises about what she could understand a story of his grandotter and her first birthday party.

The Headmistress chatted with him as she worked, sending magical messages in the shapes or paper animals to individuals needing to be notified as she listened to her friend's story.

It had been a while since Isabel started to observe on her fellow classmates. Some, she found, were quite interesting. Especially the high elf, she seems to be hiding something with the Tieflings that oddly enough following her all day. But then the high elf said something that made the Tieflings left. But being a nice person and did not want to try to stir up unnecessary problems, Isabel decided that she will not interfere with whatever this couple is doing. After all, she came here to acquire rare knowledge, not to create unnecessary boundaries. On the other side, she had seen one of her classmate focusing an orb of some sort of energy. From the color of it, the ball energy's color is different from what she had read from the fundamental elements. And her classmates did not chant or focused too hard to create it. Maybe because there is something special about him? Isabel whispered to herself while drawing a rough draft for the boy appearance and her speculation next to it on her notebook.

Closing her notebook, Isabel let out a sigh before finding her way back to the library. The place had enchained her from the first moment that she saw. And it still did, even when she had look it twice. The place was decorated by columns that are higher than a pine tree. And decorations running across the ceiling, unending. Under it, rows and rows of bookcases spanning almost indefinitely. Just think about her compared to the place so vast make her feel insignificant.

Walking down from the stairs, Isabel made her way to the closet bookcase, where thousands of books were organized perfectly. As she walked, the sound of her shoes contacted with the marble floor echoing throughout the hall. And Isabel was enjoying this sensation, the feeling of having herself and only herself in the silence of the day. She knew, by tomorrow, there will be hundreds if not more students will come here, searching for their knowledge. The place will be filled with people, with various races, appearances, and agendas. Some may seek knowledge, some may seek diplomat, and some will seek luck. Running her hand through the back cover of the books, Isabel smiled. She could imagine the future as it was in front of her eyes, and she was one of them. From here, men and women seek for knowledge, for various reasons. Some will bring changes to this world. While some will fall in the rivers of time, as everyone else, and forgotten by time. But one thing for sure.

Isabel’s thought stops as she decides to pick up a book from the next bookcase. The book was tattered, pages started to become yellow due to time. The cover is almost ripped out from the pages that it holds. The author name had been blurred through time, but Isabel was still able to identify its topic name through the cover. The title was neatly engraved in the middle, in yellow. Looking from outside, the book was more of a notebook of someone rather than a published book of someone. But something held her back, urging her to read it.

Filled with curiosity, Isabel walked to a table in the corner, isolated from others, while still looking straight at the book. The book title was hard to see, so Isabel said it out, word by word. " Species Autopsies"

Kyvir Lokerakir & Isabel Pelrine

After his Mistress and he had parted ways, Kyvir had begun a patrol of the Facilities' grounds, beginning in the courtyard and working his way through the main areas of the campus. He walked with purpose as he made note of each entrance, exit, and everything in between as he memorized the basic features of the school. While he had already developed a fair sense of his surroundings, he was aware that efficiency in his performance required a detailed understanding of the building's structure. Otherwise, he and his Mistress could easily be overwhelmed in a tactical sense.

Before long, he had managed to create a basic blueprint of the School's main locations, which included the Dorms, Cafeteria, Library, and Courtyard. In addition, he had begun to map out different routes to evacuate the school if needed. However, he also had a task ordered by his Mistress that was a more pressing matter, and as such, he made his way to the Library, and began to search the nearly empty building for an individual he was capable of speaking to, and eventually found a young woman, small in stature and brown in hair.

Isabel was lost in her thoughts while reading the "Species Autopsy." Although the book did not covered all species' autopsies, it had mentioned some very interesting concepts of using magic as a tool to manipulate the specimens' physical attributes by mentioning that "alteration can be achieved through long term exposure to magic". However, the book had failed to prove the existence of the Cyclone structure, as well as how it connects to the specimen secrets. But, it was a good resource for Isabel's upcoming experiment as , so she decide to take note in her notebook. As she began to write, the sound of foot steps echoing in the hall abruptly ended her thought, It took her a little bit of time to determine the location of the sound. Looking up from the pages, Isabel saw a Tiefling looking directly at her. She realized that Tiefling was the same person that talked with the High Elf. The memories of the past did not stir up any emotion in Isabel as she pulled a chair next to her and signaled him to come closer, saying in her usual emotionless voice.
"Hello, do you need any help?"

Kyvir nodded at the human's question, taking the seat she had pulled up for him. With his left hand, he extended his arm and placed his index finger on the book before her, and with a deep voice, he spoke simply.
"Teach me."
Kyvir was far from comfortable in the current situation, but he didn't allow it to phase him in carrying out his Mistress's orders. He had been instructed to learn how to read, and there was nothing but his own death that would stop him from completing a task given to him.
"I can not read."
He stated, offering up the only explanation he planned to reveal any time soon to the woman he sat next to.

"Very well." Isabel said looking down to her note continuing to write and stopping at the end of her page, not bother by the eyes of the Tiefling. Turning the pages, Isabel started to state her requirements in her usual tone, not to loud, but enough for the Tiefling to heard it clearly.
"First, I will not accept failures. Especially failures that had been committed twice."
Her pencil started to move, sketching the rough draft for the scene that she is currently in.
"Second, I will not tolerate laziness."
The sketching speed started to accelerate as she sketched out the library, the clear windows, the empty hall, and the rows and rows of bookcase.
"Third, I will not wait. So you should inform me if we are going to study on that day."
The sound of the tip of the pencil scratching the paper is now clearer, breaking the peaceful atmosphere in the library as she sketched the outside environment
"Fourth, I am not your slave, nor your girlfriends and anything like that. We are only going to be a teacher and student, And I prefer to keep it that way."
Isabel hands started to move slower as she started to fill in minor details.
"And five, if you failed to do all of this, then I am sorry. But please find others that are more tolerant than me."
As Isabel finished her sentence, she finished sketching the back of her and the Tiefling in the middle of the library, The picture was overall sad and lacked emotion. Letting out a sigh, Isabel closed her notebook before looking at the Tieflings, who had been looking at her the whole time. The emotionless voice came back from the little human's mouth, asking the red being who was observing it.
"So now, are there any question you have for me?"

The Tiefling shook his head, indicating that he well understand the premise of her requests. However, he was also aware that their "sessions" would be limited, as he knew he could learn these things quite quickly. His near-perfect memory allowed him to memorize what she said, and compare it with the symbols and words in the book. All she would have to do is read the book out loud, and he would follow along.

"Now, read."

He stated quietly, moving the book to a position they could both see.

Garuda Pacifier

'And now what?'

The earlier battle failed to entertain him. His opponent was too weak, although he did show passion in his moves. It's just wasn't enough.

Garuda waited inside the arena for a few more moments, before leaving, after seeing that the students weren't willing to provide him or anyone else a duel. If they didn't want to, then the Natron mage couldn't help it. He was bored.

Perhaps a book or two would entertain him.

After all, books are the gate to the world, a path to greatness, to knowledge. Knowledge is a mysterious power. Many desired for it, but only a few was able to grasp it. But when a mind is capable enough, the power he possessed could never be measured by any sort of system. And those who knew such a power, knew to bow to it. Only a few would have the courage, or foolishness, to resist.

That was what Garuda yearned for.

Power.

Given enough time, any man may master the physical. With enough knowledge, any man may become wise. But only a true warrior, a true champion, is capable of mastering both.

Garuda entered the library quietly, careful not to bother anyone who was busy in their activities. He had the manner not to. But because of the fact that he was bulky in size, being a muscular man he was, when he began walking in tight places, collision with one another was pretty much inevitable.

Which was something that just happened.

Garuda suddenly bumped into a young man, a blonde young man with a somewhat Eastern style of clothing. Turning around to look at him, so that he could apologize, Garuda realized that the clothes he was wearing originated from the far Eastern country of Abazin. And it wasn't common clothing. The word royal came to his mind immediately, seeing how well-dressed he was.

Garuda's interests in this guy was sparked, but he wasn't the one to quickly forget his manner.

"Are you from Abazin? My apologies, for the earlier display of clumsiness."

Interacting with: Shamir@Letter Bee, some random otter@Spirit

Alexander had to chuckle as Shamir hoped he didn't bother the librarians. The young boy looked around quickly to see if any of the otters around them were bothered. None seemed to be squeaking in an overly angry manner yet. So he assumed that Shamir didn't disturb the precious library rest too much. Though as he learned earlier, it seemed to be best not to test the otter's patience. Unlike Shamir, Alexander did not take a seat. He felt that he didn't have the time for it. He made a promise to his father. Not only that, he needed something before tomorrow. Or at least, the process of making it should be started before tomorrow. Either way, there was little time to lose. But that was no reason to be rude.

"Healing and protection? Interesting schools." But in truth, Alexander found it a bit odd. They were certainly noble schools. But Shamir, as far as Alexander saw it, was not in the position to be noble. His birthright was usurped. No amount of healing will give it back. Alexander had known blood and battle for most of his life. Even when they were living in a castle, he could feel the tension. His father didn't keep much from them. The young boy knew that his kingdom would march to war. Probably with him at the front of it. "When I grew up, I didn't have access to a library. Not even to books." Alexander said, sharing a bit about himself. "Not that I had time for that. When you're not sure what you're going to eat that evening, reading sort of loses its importance." The talk took his mind back to his younger years. When his father was still a mercenary general. Back when he had to beg or steal a scrap of food to eat. Absent mindedly he brushed his fingers over the books. Letting the amazement sink in. "Even when my father rose up the throne, books were a secondary concern. At least, until I began playing with magic. Then reading became very important. But still, I've never seen this many books in my life. But I intend to read as many of them as possible."

"There's no problem in being a chatterbox. At least not towards me." Alexander told Shamir with a comforting smile. "Well... I might officially be a fellow royal but trust me. I didn't grow into the role yet." Alexander deflected a little. The title of prince felt foreign. Obviously, he was only bearing it for a few months now. But then his mind turned towards his promise and his mission again. "Listen, I'm afraid I'll have to catch you later. There are things I still have to take care off. I'll speak to you soon!" Alexander was already half-way towards the corner when he took his leave from Shamir.

As much as he wanted to talk with the foreign prince, there were things to do. First of all, he needed to be sure. He approached a random otter placing a few books into the shelves. "Hi, I'm sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you could help me out." The little creature stopped with what it was doing and looked up at Alexander with half-expecting eyes. Or Alexander thought he saw that in the eyes. "So, I want to make my own spell focus out of my spellbook." He let his hand rest on the blank book he was taking with him. "And I was wondering if you could help me find a few books about the subject." To Alexander's delight, the little creature squeaked and nodded its head before it shot off towards a certain shelf. With Alexander in tow. They went around a corner, then another corner. Then up two stairs and down one again. He passed a few objects that weren't shelves. He even thought he saw a large globe. But he had little time to observe as the otter didn't look like she would be waiting for Alexander. Though eventually they reached a rather unmarked case. The otter squeaked a bit and pointed at the book case a few times. Then went on her way back, passing through Alexander's feet as it moved.

For a moment he was confused. But then he began reading the book titles. Enchanting: From Dwarven Runes to Elven Gems, Gnome Glyphs for advanced Enchanters and Advanced Iconogram Engraving were but a few titles Alexander noticed. But soon he realized that he was staring at a bookcase filled with enchantment books. It took him some time, but he found a few books he thought could be valuable. But he would need some guidance, as he never enchanted in his life before. So armed with Court Wizard Eingar's Basic Runes, Rune Enchantments for Apprentices and Wizard Tools: Foci (a book he was particularly happy to find) he tried to make his way back to the familiar parts of the library.

It took him some time to find his way. Maybe a bit longer than he wanted to admit. But eventually he found his way back. With the three books under his arms he quickly marched towards the teachers' wing and began looking for a plaque saying 'Enchantment Teacher'. All the while he was wondering who he'd meet. A reclusive dwarf? Maybe an artificer gnome? Would it be another elf? Maybe a High Elf this time around? How would their class look? He guessed it would be filled with artificer equipment. Or did enchanters not make the equipment they would enchant. The thought hadn't crossed his mind yet.

Shamir smiled as Alex revealed more about himself; his poor origins, his upbringing, and how it seemed his father had to lift his family up from the literal gutter. For some reason, he was fascinated by that story; he still had fear and a little hate for the other Mage's father, but he can now understand why the latter would do what he did. Or at least, he can understand a good reason for why a mercenary general would usurp the throne of his liege. So, the scion of Abazin waved goodbye to his new friend, before musing on asking the librarians (were those the otters?) if there are books on healing magic or protective casting.

The Prince's thoughts were suddenly interrupted as he was bumped into by the white-haired student, who almost made him lose his footing. But there was no fury as the shock faded, especially when the older teenager apologized, before showing interest in Abazin. Smiling, Shamir held out his hand, and said, "Yes, I am Prince Shamir of Abazin, usurped from his throne. I came here to learn how to heal others and protect myself. Your apologies are accepted, Mr...?"

Shamir was someone who gave off the impression of someone who didn't actually fight, but knew how to, just in case. His choices of magical schools indicated, too, that he did not believe that his strength lay in fighting, at least not at first. Perhaps one who sought to support others?

Garuda Pacifier

"Garuda Pacifier. But please, call me Garuda. I am the son of a noble lord and mage in the far northern country of Acity. And you are...a prince, eh?

Garuda glanced him from top to bottom, his palm placed on his chin. Well, he certainly had that appearance of a prince, though his posture might not suggest it very well. He might not be able to slake his thirst for battle, but he was indeed a friendly one, and forgiving. But the thing that caught his attention more was the fact that he was usurped from the throne. That's a cruel fate he had been spoken to there.

"I have no means to intrude your personal affairs, but may you explain your statement. You said you were...usurped from the thrones."

He could have guessed the answer as something controversial, and some scenarios played in his mind, but the true answer could only come from one source. And that was if he'd be willing to speak.
