I've been on a wonderful Ulver journey today, with a tiny dip in with Dimension F3H. But maaaan, I looove Ulver. There's not a single album over their 25 years that I even find "mediocre" even. Their early, extremely raw Black Metal albums is what got me in, the journey and story told in Bergtatt, followed by the symphonic black metal that Kveldsanger offered before releasing the album often considered the harshest, purest, and perhaps most physically painful album ever released in the genre; Nattens Madrigal. And when I say phyaically painful, I mean it. The first few listens of that album was so challenging to listen to because my ears began to hurt and my head was pounding.. yet, I still love the album. Beyond the deliberately poor recording and rough, angry riffs lingers a hidden melody, a hidden story that contrasts it all.

These three albums were given out in a span of three years, during the golden age of Norwegian Black Metal... and then they were done. No new Black Metal has ever been made. The old school fans have issues with it, though I discovered them later. And the very album released after their BM period is my favorite, called Perdition City. Even today I discover new elements in that album I'd never noticed before. Perdition City is more of an electronic, avant garde, jazz album with hints of cyber metal. And a LOT of Pink Floydy sounds. Truly amazing, in my opinion.

Here's some songs I like from various older and newer albums, their newer stuff can't even be considered Metal at all either. But ya, if you actually read this shit and found it interesting, take a listen~

@Sanctus Spooki I heard that song awhile ago and was looking for it since I saw this on Imgur--thanks for the link. As corny as foreign movies can be (and some Hollywood movies), they often have decent music, at least that is my opinion.

No matter how bad the radio gets, it's nice to know there are still killer Prog Rock bands out there.
