@Lovejoy Well, something that came to mind was a sort of mineral that was harvested and then 'distilled' into a liquid form that could be injected directly into the bloodstream.

@Lovejoy if there's a graduating "class" of under a hundred, it's entirely reasonable to know every last one of them by name, if not more than that. Since we're talking going on a mission together, we probably had a couple weeks' teambuilding before we ship out, as that's important for any team and the Inquisition doesn't seem like it'd field a team that didn't have some prep for working together.

@CollectorOfMyst perhaps it's a healing drug, or a (banned?) derivative of ether extraction created as a sideproduct -- or even something used to help fighters who overdo it recover their ether?

@shylarahYou make a good point. They would know of each other, and would have had cross-group training exercises during training, but their relationship wouldn't be as deep. Also, as for the couple weeks of teambuilding at the end of training, let's just say that the decision to send a class of recently ordained Inquisitors to El was a spur of the moment call by the Church and many didn't agree with it. Ordinarily, a team of recent graduates wouldn't have been sent immediately to a place like El, but something changed at the last minute. We actually got our orders three days after Culmination, so yeah, something feels weird about this mission and our characters would recognize it.

@shylarahCulmination is the ordainment ceremony where pupils are officially "sworn in" as Inquisitors. It's kind of a complicated process, which I'll detail below.

On the Day of Culmination, after the graduation ceremony, the priests journey together to the Steps of the Red Shrine, the Divine Throne of Lord Varya, where He is said to reside. The Inquisitors then march up the steps, ascending the massive tower which rests at the base of the Shrine as a unified group. Upon reaching the summit, the titanic doors of the monolithic scarlet shrine await them.

The Inquisitors are forbidden from actually entering the Shrine, thus they kneel at its entrance, where they then commune with Lord Varya himself.

Now, this is what the Church calls it, but in actuality, no priest actually speaks to the Ravenous Lord directly. Instead, there, on those steps, they are contacted by an Aspect of Lord Varya. These aspects, or Angels, as the Church describes them, are divine beings who possess some measure of independence, but are bound to carry out His Will. These Aspects form a spiritual connection to each warband and act as their personal attachment to the Lord Varya, a "patron saint" of sorts. The Aspect watches over each Inquisitor of the band, and is said to lend them aid in times of crisis. Whether Lord Varya even notices the Inquisitors who kneel at His doorstep or even cares for their existence is unknown, but his Aspects are said to exist for the sole purpose of protecting and guiding an Inquisitorial warband in Lord Varya's stead, and is said to mold itself according to the spirits of each individual member.

The Aspects themselves have their own quirks and personalities, and it is known that its appearance changes depending on whomever glimpses it. Thus, one Inquisitor might see the Aspect as an ordinary plain-faced soldier, while another might see it as a demon. Others might not even glimpse the Aspect at all. This is all dependent on an Inquisitor's spirit, personality, and faith.

What an Inquisitor sees upon kneeling at the steps is a deeply personal experience, and they are not compelled to disclose it to the Church or anyone else if they don't wish to.

I'll write more about the patron saint of our warband soon enough. :)

@Drakey Here's my interpretation of Rodion. I figured he'd go sleeveless when working on his machines, so he ended up looking like a blacksmith.

@Drakey Just for fun, have a comparison of Rodion and Ziotea.

These are both awesome, thx guys!

I must say, whoever was in charge of training us to be loyal and devout did a very poor job of it. I think Stina is the only one that actually fits the bill - the rest of us are apathetic, agnostic or even closet rebels.

@deathbringer

Rodion tries to avoid because she is scary, but her ether gives off a calming effect, as such Rodion doesn't mind having her around when he works as he is less likely to find himself getting upset or irritated.

If anyone wants a glimpse into Rodion's head, then read this:

Oh, and let me know what you guys think about it!

I had this idea for an apprentice ark engineer, HOWEVER, with 11 people already in this, I'm hesitant to even write a character for it bc that is a nightmarish amount of people to have in rp at once

@Mercenary Lord

Ark Engineer, Like someone on the steam arcs who keeps them working?

If you do make that character, I'm not entirely sure how Rodion would take you. Probably be buds cause machines and shit. But then again, who knows...

Oh, you got it right with the picture. There is a reason why his last name Kuznetsov (not his birth name) means "blacksmith"

wasnt sure if it was steam ark or arc, but yes, that was the general idea, maybe someone who thinks being an inquistor is cool, but didn't quite make the cut during the selection age

alternatively, a slightly older inquisitor who had something go catastrophically awry and was relegated to steam ark maintenance as punishment, or some other idea

there are ideas, but again unless lovejoy actively wants me to work on this I'm not gonna bloat the cast up any more, especially with someone who wouldnt know these guys very well at all

really i just want to hear someone say "NO, YOU CAN'T TOUCH THAT, YOU WILL DIE" or "Seriously if you try to lick that one more time"
