Is everyone else considering this dead, as well? I intend to continue writing, as long as there are Players interested. I may attempt to recruit more, if the current Players choose to leave.
Not at all. I think this just has a bit of a slower pace compared to some other RPGs which honestly suits me perfectly fine at this time. And I hope to at least start writing another post this week.
As a note, I went back and edited my Maya post. Nothing was changed, save for some errors and a glaring continuity flaw. I'll be working on my Eddie post sometime later today. First, I have to tend to one of my other RPs.
Human Appearance: Lee is a tall woman, a bit less than six feet tall and even taller in heels. Her regimen of dance and self defense have made her solid and athletic, but her muscles are softened by generous curves. Her hair is cut in a layered bob just past her chin, and her bangs are just long enough to get into her eyes, something she doesn't really notice. Her eyes are milky hazel and tend to wander, focusing on nothing. Her lips are full, but she rarely wears any sort of lipstick with the exception of a simple and nearly colorless gloss. She does not wear much makeup at all, aside from a little foundation and a smidge of blush, since putting it on is difficult for her. Her face is somewhere between an oval and a heart, with a strong nose and round cheeks. Her clothes tend to be of a certain set of colors, picked so that if she grabs the wrong one they won't clash too badly. This means nothing too bright, nor any particularly loud patterns.
Oddly enough she does have preferred colors, even though she can't tell what they look like. Lee has formed strong associations for various colors based on things described by that color. Pinks and oranges like the sunset appeal to her because of a certain quality to the air once the sun goes down. She also likes the green of grass or a walk in the woods, and the yellow of sunshine.
She has a distinct preference for comfortable clothing, and a fondness for textured fabrics like velvet, suede, silk, fleece, and knits. She is as comfortable in skirts as jeans or yoga pants and a sweatshirt, and what she wears depends a lot on what she is doing that day. While teaching she wears close-fitting clothing, though she puts something over it before heading home on all but the hottest days, in which case she often changes.
Personality: Lee is a polite young lady, and generally composed. She is usually softspoken and an excellent listener. She is generous by nature, and had to learn where to draw the line so as not to overextend herself. She can be a bit gullible if presented with someone in need of assistance, and she doesn't like saying no, even when she knows it's in her best interests to do so. She has minor social anxiety, and she values her time alone, even though she loves people and loves spending time with a wide network of friends. She tries to project a confidence that she does not always feel, especially in a social situation where her discomfort might negatively impact the enjoyment of others. She is sensitive to noisy environments and large amounts of chaotic motion, and either can be overwhelming. Lee has clinical depression, though she's had it more or less in hand for some time. On bad days she can be moody and irritable, and she does need to take a break from doing things to focus on herself now and then, but overall she's doing well.
Occupation: dance instructor
History: Cecilly's mother Emily Krichilsky was young -- only twenty, and not yet married. The man she was seeing vanished before she even knew she was pregnant, and she eventually married another man, Dave Roseberg. Lee's half-brother Ruben is several years younger than she, but the two are still close.
Lee was born blind, though she was otherwise a healthy baby. However what neither her mother nor the ob/gyn realized was that her father had been infected with miasma when she was conceived, and she'd inherited some of the...changes. Her spatial perception was the only active aspect of her infection, and it is in theory possible that a high sensitivity to air currents and sound could account for most of it. It is not uncommon for those lacking a given sense to have greater discernment with others, and while her ability is a bit odd and certainly unusually precise, Lee never exhibited any other signs of infection, and the miasma itself was in a dormant state.
Her life was generally uneventful, the usual mix of good and bad. She was a good student but not exceptional, and she took up dance as an alternative to sports (specifically gymnastics). As a young teen she picked up martial arts, deciding that the mental discipline taught with many of the eastern systems would help her deal with the increasing issues she had with depression. This is also when she started seriously pursuing a career in dance. Initially she picked a performing arts major, but after helping with an informal dance class over a break Lee realized that she liked teaching just as much as dancing itself, possibly more. She switched performing arts to her minor and graduated with a Master's in dance education.
She initially started as a junior instructor at a fairly large studio in town that specialized in ballet, but Lee wanted to offer something a a bit less formal -- and something closer to where she lived, where it wasn't a long walk from public transportation to get there. A few of her college friends had a similar desire, and they pooled their funds and purchased an old theatre in a historic part of town, where the city council was trying to lure leasers. With some grants, some help, and a lot of fundraising the group fixed the place up to suit their needs and while they often come close to the wire on repaying loans they've managed to weather every time money was short thus far. An older dancer fallen on hard times has since joined them, and the little studio has built up a reputation for excellence, variety, and reliability.
Infection Status: Infected (dormant, possible aberrant incubation)
Miasma Abilities: Cecilly exhibits an odd form of spatial perception. She is able to tell where things are around her, though her range is far less than that of most people's vision. She can sense perhaps as far as a large classroom (her preferred studio is one where she can stand by one wall and see most of the way to the other). The closer something is, the more detail she can make out. This perception extends in a full sphere around her; she is not hindered by the direction she is facing. She cannot see through windows, and screens are meaningless surfaces. If there is a large object between her and something else -- such as the corner of a building -- Lee can pick up somewhat more beyond it than would be visible, but still experiences a sharp dropoff in level of detail. Smaller objects are less of an issue and for something like a tree trunk of moderate size they do not block her senses. A lot of debris in the air can distract and disrupt her abilities, though things like mist and light rain are far less of an issue.
Following her encounter with Smile, her awareness has begun to reach beyond the surface of objects, though not all the way through them. If someone put their face by a window she was near, Lee can pick that up, and she can detect things like broken bones, thin ice, and other issues of structural integrity. Thus far, that is the only noticeable change.
Miasma Appearance: none Lee has yet to exhibit the ability to transform.
Other: Lee is Jewish, and she attends Shabbat and holiday services regularly at the conservative synagogue where she is a member.
She has a good relationship with both her mother and her stepfather, but in terms of family Lee is closest to her half-brother and her maternal grandmother. Ruben is away at college, though the two stay in touch via phone and the internet. Leah Krichilsky lives in assisted living just a few blocks from Lee's apartment building, and is always delighted when her granddaughter comes to visit, at least once a week and often more. Leah is over ninety but still possessed of a sharp mind, and while she often relies a great deal on her cane she is quite active -- often to the consternation of just about everyone who knows her. The old lady has never really accepted that she's not as capable as she was at merely fifty, and at her age a broken bone or a turned ankle could be a serious problem.
Lee speaks fluent Yiddish, taught by her grandmother.
She owns an orange tabby by the name of Freddie.
Cecilly really dislikes elevators and any sort of enclosed vehicle. She does use bus and subway extensively, as she cannot drive, but if at all possible she prefers to walk places. She loves walking in general, and often if she doesn't have anything to do she'll just go for a wander in a nearby park or subdivision.
She takes an aikido class once a week, and is good enough at self defence that she believes she could hold her own in a hand-to-hand fight if someone tried to mug her -- so long as they didn't have a gun.
She has an especial fondness for tap.
I intend to open with her encounter with Smile, if that's okay!
Name: Valkyrie. The ones in my unit call me Val. I never had a surname.
Age: 19. I suppose you could say I'm fresh, but Maya says I'm "green" I've not been active duty very long, but this is all i've ever known.
Appearance: 5' 8". 140 lbs. Mid length, light brown hair. blue eyes. I think I look like a boy, but I'm always in uniform, so that's alright.
Personality: I do what I'm told and try not to ask too many questions. I watch more often than I'm seen and listen more often than I speak, and I think that's the safest way to be. Hidden. I'm loyal to my unit, they're my purpose. My reason. I'm enjoying the fresh air that comes with active duty, some time away from the Evadne Complex where I've spent the better part of my life; when we aren't on active duty, I like to draw and read some old comics I found called Calvin and Hobbes. But I'd never tell them any of that. They'd just make fun of me for being soft.
Occupation: I guess a mix of lab rat and S.C.A.R.E...
History: S.C.A.R.E. is all I've ever known. Before we started to collect those infected by the miasma, we executed them. My father was never in the picture, and my mother was infected and dispatched when I was an infant. I was put in quarantine for observation. I was found to have a sister strain of the miasma laying dormant in my body. It isn't quite the same as what we deal with, but it's presumed malicious. To prevent any adverse effects from becoming prominent, I was given an experimental nano-inhibitor. It seems to have worked for the last 19 years, but it does seem to be the cause of some migraines. The only advantage is that the current strain of the miasma doesn't see me as a potential host. Once I was cleared, they couldn't find any extended family, so S.C.A.R.E adopted me. Raised me. Taught me everything I know. Everything I need to know to be a good soldier. I was just thrown in to the field for my 18th birthday last year. Its been.. Something.
Infection Status: Healthy. I have more pity for the infected than animosity. There has to be a way to stop this plague. Throughout history, humanity has always found a cure. And if not a cure, at least prevention or treatment. My empathy for them doesn't prevent me from dispatching them if they are an eminent threat.
@shylarah Aye aye! Yeah. I had the idea for her when the RP first started, but wasn't sure I'd play. Intimidation factor 'n all that. Redward threw a mention out as a nod to the design. Decided to quit being a panzy and play. :)
