Name: Charlie Kane
Age: 17
Gender: Male
House: Slytherin
Appearance: Charlie stands with the posture expected of a Kane, his head held high, blue eyes shining with defiance and elitist smirk. Like most males in his family line Charlie is tall, standing at 6’1, with broad shoulders, and a muscular, athletic frame. His skin is a bit on the paler side though he can tan some in the summer as he spends as much time outdoors as possible. He keeps his facial hair trimmed and neat but is never seen clean shaven as he likes to look older rather than baby-faced. When not in his Slytherin robes, he dresses casual and prefers to wear his Quidditch robes whenever possible, and during school he tries to get away with keeping his tie as loose as possible and almost never buttons that top button.
Blood Status: Pure Blood
Abilities: Although school has never been his main focus, Charlie has always done well in Defense Against the Dark Arts class, both offensive and defensive spells and the thought of engaging in duels and battle has always interested him. Where he really shines is on the Quidditch field, Charlie is one of the beaters on Slytherin house team and dreams of being a profession Quidditch player one day.
Best Spell: Confringo the Blasting Charm
Personality: Growing up moderately wealthy and surrounded by pure blood supremacists certainly imprinted a sense of entitlement on Charlie. He’s used to getting what he wants, used to people telling him he is great because his family is great. Charlie can have a temper when things don’t go his way, he’s not used to compromising or being expected to be a “team player.” Charlie has a cruel streak in him, from a young age his father taught him that muggles and mudbloods were less than, he still sees pure bloods as better than, and his elitist and bulling behaviors have always been rewarded. He has trouble with change, admitting he could be wrong and doesn’t like anything that might make him appear weak.
Charlie shows ambition and extreme dedication to anything he truly sets his mind too, especially Quidditch, when he wants something he will do anything within his means to achieve his goals. He’s been known to practice his sport until he can’t even lift his arms, he’s played through several injuries on the field, and does it all without a single complaint. Charlie rarely complains, instead he powers through life’s challenges and relishes competition. Although he can be clever and resourceful Charlie has never been academically inclined, anything that’s not exciting to him just doesn’t interest him and thus he doesn’t apply himself. Charlie leans towards being loud, brash, and impulsive; he is unafraid to voice his opinions, he goes after what he wants, and he frequently does what feels right without thinking of consequences.
Charlie very much lives in the moment, thinking about the future and dwelling on the past are rare for him. He’s stubborn to the point of complete obstinacy; it is nearly impossible to change his mind or to give up on something his mind has been set on. He is loyal to the people he cares about, and he cares deeply about the people he counts as friends as well as those who have earned his respect. Charlie’s very a very outgoing and extroverted person, even if he likes you he’ll probably still give you a hard time in a friendly way, and he loves a good joke or prank. He also tends to speak bluntly, lacking tact, and favoring honesty, even where most people might chose a white lie.
History: Charlie grew up the youngest son in a wealthy, pure blooded, wizarding family. All his life he got everything he asked for; pricy clothes, the latest broomstick, and the most expensive school supplies. His parents were both infamous Death Eaters, his uncle died while serving life in Azkaban for the numerous muggle and mudblood lives he took while serving The Dark Lord, and just about every member of his family has been in Slytherin as far back as any of them can trace. The Kane family is and always has been a pillar of darkness in the wizarding community, and Charlie’s oldest brother, Thomas, was no different graduation from Hogwarts just as the Dark Lord rose again his oldest brother became another Death Eater. His other brother, Zachary, who had always been the black sheep of the family; was sorted into Hufflepuff, always hanging around mudbloods, and even fighting against The Dark Lord in the Battle of Hogwarts which happened during his brother’s fifth year. Both of his brothers died during the Battle of Hogwarts, and Charlie’s parents put all the blame on those who fought the Dark Lord for the loss of their favorite son and for the failures, as well as the death, of their second son.
As a child, Charlie’s mother, had made sure her sons always had everything they ever needed or wanted while it was his father who taught them discipline. Charlie was raised to believe in blood purity, to hate those who tainted the great wizarding lines and to see muggles as less than. Truthfully Charlie never cared to question it, he just agreed with his father so he could put all of his energy and focus into what he really cared about; Quidditch. Charlie loves the game of Quidditch more than anything, his position of choice is of course beater but he makes a decent keeper as well, all he’s ever wanted to do is play professionally, which of course his father has never been keen on. While his father thinks Quidditch is a fine hobby for a young wizard he wants his son to follow in his footsteps and embrace the dark arts and become a loyal servant of the Dark Lord just as Tom had done, and as the family’s last living son he is excepted to follow his father’s footsteps into the Dark Arts. The only person who ever really support his dream was his other brother Zach. Zach, the clear black sheep of the family, had always been Charlie’s closest friend. Even though they were sorted in separate houses and had vastly different views on the importance of blood status they still remained as close as they ever were.
Before Zach’s death Charlie simply accepted what, his father told, believing pure blooded wizards to far superior to those of lesser blood status and frequently bulling other students who were either mudbloods or those in other houses. After Zach’s death, his brother and closet friend who was of pure blood, killed by Death Eaters fighting for pure blood supremacy; it was enough to make him question and to care enough to pay attention to what was going on. He still can’t decide which side he blames the most though; Death Eaters as they were the aggressors or the other side who lured his brother into becoming a blood traitor and joining the losing side.
Before the Battle of Hogwarts, during his first year, Charlie was your typical pretentious pure blood, who had fun pushing around the mudbloods at the school. After the battle, and as the years went on he became crueler, taking out his grief and anger on anyone he saw as weaker and with the way school is run now his behavior is rewarded and celebrated. Charlie has never been an exceptional student, for the majority of his classes he barely passes. He does, however, do fairly well in defense against the dark arts, he enjoys learning spells that could help in battle, knowing that eventually he will have to choose a side. The majority of his effort though is still put into Quidditch.
Extra: Charlie’s pet of choice is a one eyed Great Horned Owl named Odin. His wand is 13”, solid and made of blackthorn wood and a dragon heartstring core.
