Superman has the memeworthy honor of no one really knowing he is an alien by simply fooling everyone with glasses. Somehow, despite his face, hair, voice, and skin tone being perfectly like Clark Kent, the glasses make people not realize his superhero identity.

However, Superman, as with a few other DC heroes, is also infamous for new powers or gadgets being written to make them unable to lose. For example, it is canon that Superman can project mini Supermen from his hands since it somehow solved an issue at some point. Certain writers tend to write in new powers for him any time he gets remotely close to trouble. Others make him more relatable rather than just pure superhero that punches baddies. I personally find Superman boring and too much of a Boy Scout trope.

So... I am going to move forward with this game idea. It'll be after Thanksgiving (U.S. version) before I set up the OOC page. I also need to think through the specifics of the random power rolling, but that shouldn't be too difficult to work out. I will be using a homebrew setting for which I've written a lot of material over the years.

Stay tuned!

Not being a close follower of Superman comics, I've never been sure just how much of the general public knows that Supes is from another planet. An alien character could potentially hide his origins indefinitely, especially if her physiology was very close to human. And even if it weren't, she could claim that the onset of her powers transformed her in some way. Since no one knows anything about why people are manifesting super powers at this point, who could disprove that claim?

Actually one of the biggest things that bug me about Superman is the fact that its pretty common knowledge in the DCU that he is an alien. Especially after the various invasions by other of his species (Brainiac, Zod, and Doomsday for example) as well as other aliens who have publicly identified him as a kryptonian.

The reason it bugs me is the lack of realism to it. The world knows he's an extra terrestrial, they even know his partially at fault for some of those invasions. Yet the majority worship him, while those who publicly state a mistrust of his alien nature (Luthor for example) are publicly ostracized. Marvel does it better; Take mutants for example, the majority of them caused no harm to the masses, they were simply different. Yet the masses feared and hated them for those differences. Its a more realistic, and sadly human, response.

You are mistaken. Clark Kent has the memeworthy honor of no one knowing he's superman and thus an alien. Superman however has had his origin sited in news reports. There is technically a difference.

Sooo... yeah. :) The point here being that in this setting, Earth has no knowledge of sentient life existing elsewhere, and the revelation of the existence of such a being would be interesting, to say the least.

Interesting concept, I've been interested in randomized powers for a while now and this idea seems like a lot of effort will be put into it. Subbed.

Okay, randomized super powers? Sounds pretty fun actually. Where would we be rolling for powers? Like Superpower Wiki is usually pretty good for that.

Randomized powers sound fun, although I have no idea how I'd play it. Especially if I was a robot with plant-related abilities. I'm definitely interested though c:

The last time I played something like this, my character got the ability to ...change the colour of other things. Needless to say he proceeded to eliminate many world issues with this mega pointless perk.

...such as racism because at his pinnacle, he and a telepath made the whole world (actually, just a country) white. :)!

But then again ...traffic became ....bizzare.

I will probably join in as well. I am deeply interested in how this will turn out. The random power idea will make it so that all the characters are truly misfits in there own way.

Argh. Kind of forgot that I'm attending a conference the rest of the week, and have a very busy weekend. Targeting next week for the OOC page to be completed and posted.

If my experience at conferences is anything to go on, I had a good chunk of free time at lunch and/or at night.

It's an in-town conference, so my evenings are per usual: kids, dinner, kids, kids' bedtime, time w/wife. 45 minute lunch w/keynote speakers. :)
