If I try to google that it just gives results on identifying termites and supernova dust falling on Earth through antarctic meteors. So can we read it?

@Cyclone@Slime It's a collection of stories, most of them referencing one another, and the extended story of the narrator which is told in the intermissions. I'm probably not going to polish it or even look at it again for a while, but part of the reason I'm such a slow writer is because I tend to edit extensively as I go, so it shouldn't be too bad.

I'll probably end up putting it into different documents according to which stories are linked, which ones are just chapters in the same novel, which ones can stand alone, and so on. If you really feel like reading some of it, here's the menu of stories.

As for whether it's actually safe to read, well. Most of it should be. Then there's 'The Human'.

Here's an excerpt that's probably the worst thing I've ever written.

@Antarctic Termite Okay, I don't know why no one has said it yet, but GOD DAMN CONGRATULATIONS, you skaggy bint!

You did the Nanowrimo thing with a day to spare. That's something to be proud of.

I've always been scared of Nanowrimo because I haven't really written a piece that big before, let alone in the span of a month, let alone in a month I normally have exams. Maybe I'll have to harden up and try it.

By the way you describe your novel, it sounds like something along the lines of Cloud Atlas, but better than the movie version. Don't know about the book though; haven't read it.

(Btw if you're from Perth you're allowed to be profane. It is known, Khaleesi.)

@Muttonhawk oi cheers mate

If you look carefully at the graph, you can actually see exactly when I had my exams. Needless to say I didn't study all that hard for them, so... don't follow my lead. >.>

From what I know of Cloud Atlas, Into the Dust Descend is not so much like it and more like Tim Winton's The Turning. The stories aren't arranged in linear fashion and the plot definitely doesn't link up. The connections are more singular 'oh shit I recognise that!' moments. One of the standalones only connects to the 'main' continuity through a single word that pops up later, for example.

If you want to give NaNo a shot, one way to do it is to set yourself a personal target smaller than the goal. My first year I aimed for 30k at 1000 words a day, and made it, and felt amazing, even though I was way off the usual goal. IT WAS STILL HARD THOUGH DON'T NEGLECT YOUR EXAMS

@Antarctic Termite I want to read The Human too.

:(

I'll get it to you guys once I've sorted all the short stories.

@Antarctic Termite Hmm! Thanks, I may have to try that.

Although I think next year I'll probably not have any exams. I'll just have to plan around full time work instead...

@Double Capybara Nanowrimo.org. Basically, it's a big project/challenge/competition/community where you try to write a novel in a month. Specifically, in November. It's quite popular.

Exams are finished, so I've got plenty of procrastinating time now.

I'm finding expanding upon Teknall's relationships with all the other characters to be a very interesting exercise.

@Antarctic Termite, congrats! That looks like it was hard work.

Decided to do some character sheets. Not going to think too hard about any of them, just idly fiddle around while I procrastinate other posts.

Progress! Prepare for me to forget all of this and overwrite it with new stuff anyway.

Dude, I'm loving the sheets, but while you're at it you'd do well to dunk that stuff into wiki pages as well. You don't have to edit them, or at the very least if you feel the need you can do it after you've finished with your ongoing sheets. Having stuff on the wiki just makes it much easier to reference.

You don't need to make them properly referenced and bloated out like BBeast and I do. I think we just get excited about our pages.

Speaking of sheets, the void-ant-crabs now exist in this format as well. It's probably less of a handy reference than the post summary, but at least it's less likely to be lost to the sands of time.

I was going to finally get around to making a wiki page, however lazy, for Osveril, but then looked at the time and decided it would have to wait until tomorrow. Hopefully this means it will be less lazy, not to mention be at all.
