“Shut the fuck up,” said the manager, turning her back to the human. “Put your whore mouth down and know your place, cuntmangle. I don’t need you for shit.”
The line of teeth hardened. “Go fetch, skaggy bint,” said Morse.
@Cyclone@Slime It's a collection of stories, most of them referencing one another, and the extended story of the narrator which is told in the intermissions. I'm probably not going to polish it or even look at it again for a while, but part of the reason I'm such a slow writer is because I tend to edit extensively as I go, so it shouldn't be too bad.
I'll probably end up putting it into different documents according to which stories are linked, which ones are just chapters in the same novel, which ones can stand alone, and so on. If you really feel like reading some of it, here's the menu of stories.Into the Dust Descend (intermission stories)
-slightly weird paranormal postmodern story of the narrator, a homeless backpacker named Sindy, as she talks directly to the reader.
-Contains one fight scene, which I feel kinda proud of, some goodly jokes and extended religious references. The whole book uses its own distorted Christian mythology throughout.
The Tails of God (chapters 1, 2 and 3)
-Historical fantasy story about a traveller who uses the technology available to her to fight those with magical relics.
-There's a lot of combat. Some of it cheesy. There's also a fair amount of dialogue, though, and general exploring and surviving.
-Worldbuilding is just a minimally modified western Eurasia in an unspecified medieval-y time period, likely the early Renaissance. still managed some blocks of text though
-I feel like I did good on this one, not gonna lie
The Human (chapters 1, 2)
-Science fiction, dark comedy, crime story, lots of dumb worldbuilding-related jokes, just lots of dumb jokes in general
-Main characters are a min-wage worker and his friend who gets him into petty crime, sort of a coming-of-age mentor dynamic
-Secretly a fanfiction of another artist's work, though I ran away with the world and did my own thing
-I sent it to him to read and he didn't reply, which makes sense, because there's a lot of cussing and the whole thing is just super undignified
-if you ever ever doubt that I am trash, read this
Sharp Teeth
-failed sci-fi romance snippet
-tried writing for a prompt, didn't work
-i'm not proud of this one
-there's nothing wrong with it i'm just
-not
The Brass-Smiths and the Watchmaker
-The most depressing bedtime story ever
-has mermaids
???
-untitled stream of consciousness dreamscape story
-super personal stuff idk man idk
How Sindy [title is spoilers]
-flashback by the narrator, Sindy
-really trashy extended combat scene
-description of heaven is useful for other stories though
A Day in the Life of a Tyrant
-comedy, turns into slice-of-life drama abruptly halfway through
-just a lighthearted thing i guess i was losing steam at this point
The Angel Heart
-A story about angels and visions of the past. Closes the novel.
-personally I'd say it's one of the better stories here, mostly thanks to not being written at 2 in the morning
-very closely linked to the main stories, though.
As for whether it's actually safe to read, well. Most of it should be. Then there's 'The Human'.
Here's an excerpt that's probably the worst thing I've ever written.<Snipped quote by an actual character-developing exchange>
I wanna read ‘The Human’.
@Antarctic Termite I want to read The Human too.
