"Woah, hang in there girl!" Just how many over-leveled Furrets would Rin run into? They could feel their gut twisting seeing Anusobeket half taken out by just one attack. Rin wasn't used to losing and they certainly didn't like the feeling of it! This was supposed to be their journey to becoming Champion! Weren't they supposed to mow down Sentrets and Rattata rather than encounter two Smergles and two Stalker Furrets? "If this is your idea of humbling me, it won't work," Rin yelled petulantly to the universe itself. Rin brought their face back from its position of staring at the sky to look at the battle in front of them. "Use Water Gun again, Anu!" If Rin was going to lose, it'd be with the same stubborn fire they always had in their eyes. They would not be forced into learning a lesson any time soon. Regretfully.

Anu shot of another Water gun. Just before the attack could hit, the Furret put both hand beside her face, crossed her eyes, and stuck out her tongue, and then dissipated back into the grass. She would reappear moments later, right in Anu's blind spot. From there she unleashed a powerful barrage of Fury Swipes, while leaning her head back and looking away comically.

Result: Ouch!

ROUTE 1

Instinctively, Rin stuck out their own tongue right back at the Furret. If she hadn't disappeared into the tall grass, Rin would've plugged both thumbs in each ear and gone full on 'Na-Nana-Boo-Boo.' When one has grown up passionately bickering with someone since childhood, there really isn't any level of immaturity they won't sink to if challanged. However as soon as the Long Body pokémon vanished from sight, Rin's eyes sharpened in anticipation. A wild pokémon wouldn't have run off so easy. Well at least not a Furret. Anusobeket picked up on this and armed herself with a killer stare as she watched the grass around her with a sweeping glare. "Keep your eyes peeled, Anu." Rin slowly turned around as they kept speaking aloud. "That F-" Just like that it was over! Practically flying from the grass, the wild Furret pounced on Anusobeket and landed devastating strikes from her claws.

Rin broke into a short sprint in order to defend Anusobeket, but it was too late. The Long Body Pokémon was gone, and The Big Jaw Pokémon was done. Dropping down to her side, Rin stroked Anusobeket's fainted face. A hard stare cemented their own. "This is my fault." Returning Anu back to her ball, Rin contemplated their options as they absentmindedly walked back through the grass they'd come from in the direction of the beach. 'Olotah could still fight. He even has Synthesis. Rin sighed at the thought. 'Maybe I should st-' Stopping where they stood Rin smacked both of their cheeks. This time speaking aloud, Rin wouldn't allow their next thought to even finsih. "Snap out of it, Rin! You're Two Wins to Two Losses. That's nothing!" Throwing Olotah's pokéball ahead of them, Rin raced forward. Swiping the standard pokéball out of the air as it released the Painter Pokémon, Rin used their other hand to try and stretch their binder. Rin definitely wasn't supposed to excerise in it, but dammit! This was important! "Come on, Olotah! We've got work to do!" The Smergle nodded cheerily. If only he had time to capture his trainer's ferocity in art. It truly was a force of nature in its own right. Then again, for all the naive pokémon knew he had simply mistakenly assumed the two were going to battle. 'Maybe this work would be artistsic?' With renewed excitement Olotah jumped forward, happily waving their tail as he did.

Liz was excited, a wild Karrablast just stood up and challenged her to a battle. Anxious for a battle, Liz grabbed her pokeball.

"Alright, Hephaestus, let's get stronger together buddy, show me the fire!!" Chimchar appeared fire building in his mouth.

Liz sent out her Chimchar. The wild Karrablast knew he was at a disadvantage on typing, but that would not stop him. He had boldly faced other trainers with Fire-type Pokemon in the past. He had faith in himself!

As Chimchar began to build up his ember, Karrablast began charging forward, ready to hit hard with a set of Fury Swipes. That's when Chimchar's Ember was unleashed. Karrablast did his best to jump out of the way, but he had gotten in too close. The embers hit him straight on. He fell to the ground in pain and looked back up with determination in his eyes.

Result: Fire! Fire!

Dusk was approaching quickly. Rin and Olotah were moving swiftly to destinations only Rin knew.

That's when they saw it, a wild Girafarig. He stood on a hill beneath a tree, eating leaves off the lowest handing branches. The sunset was behind him and made it to where his entire body was a silhouette, truly a magnificent sight.

Girafarig's attention wasn't blinded by the sun however. Not only was his tail scanning the area for threats, he was looking around as well, in between bites. He was being very careful indeed.

Karrablast took a massive hit, but with a strong set in it's jaw, it got back on it's feet. Liz smiled to herself at this Pokemons sheer grit.

"I am going to be honest Hephaestus, I wasn't actually planning on capturing this pokemon. But after seeing how strong he is, I think he will make a fine edition to our team!!" Chimchar grunted his agreement, Liz took out a pokeball and tossed it at the clamping pokemon.

The Pokeball flew toward Karrablast. He wanted to turn and run, but he was still too injured from the Ember. The ball hit and then brought him inside with its red light.

It then fell to the ground and began to twitch back and forth.

Once....
...Twice......
.....Three Times.........
........Four Times................

And! Wait....

....Five Times............
.............Six Times............
....Seven Times.................
...................Eight Times...........

Ding! Finally, he had accepted to his fate. Challenging trainers all day long, he knew that he would eventually be caught.

"Welcome to the team Eunomos. I know your attitude will be a welcome asset to the team." Liz said to the Pokeball as she picked it up. She finally had her sixth pokemon, now it will be harder, any pokemon she catches will be transported away and she would than have to choose strategically on who to have on her team for future battles. Liz looked up to the sky, she still had some time to made distance, and she didn't want to waste any more light.

Rin was definitely regretting their choice to keep running, but they'd be dammed if they let it show! Instead of promptly giving in and passing out, Rin plastered a miniacle smile on their face which was fooling . . . ? Absolutely nobody. Except Olotah of course. The sweet soul really thought their was any chance that their trainer was just suddenly overcome with the need to see his old art work. After all, they were traveling back near where Rin had found him. 'Maybe I'll get to show them how to appreciate art like I did for Osajyin!' With that thought in mind, the Smergle skipped ahead happily; easily surpassing his struggling trainer.

Struggling was an understatement. Just as Rin was about to unleash a thunderous roar while ripping off the constricting fabric right, their eyes bugged out of their head at the sudden sight of a pokémon! Repositioning their hands and feet into a pose with all the flare fit for a Balie Oricorio, Rin's exuberant grin was only matched in its fanaticism by their pointed finger, which wagged excitedly in the air. A
Girafarig! A real, actual Girafarig! The blithesome trainer had been in love with the Long Neck Pokémon since they first saw it PokéSchool. They didn't know what it was that drew them to it. It wasn't its stats (which were mediocre), or its typing(which was decent). Just something about its plain, goofy, cute two faces made Rin fall in love with it as a child. Rin wanted it. Needed it! They were going to have it. "Synthesis now, Olotah! They're coming home with us!" Rin's breath was ragged, but they were already mentally preparing for if it tried running off like their last wild encounter. This. Pokémon. Was. Not. Getting. Away. They'd use their last two pokéballs, beg, and cry if it meant they'd get a Girafarig. They had to have it.

Liz had been walking down route 5 for quite a while, eyes trained on the path ahead. The sun had begun to set. She had walked so far that the grassy areas were becoming a little greener and bit more moisture circulated through the air. She was in the southern reaches of Route 5.

On a nearby rock, a Purrloin rested. His eyes gazed upon the setting sun on the horizon. He was lonely but not in the least bit upset about it, a true loner. He raised one eyebrow and looked over at the approaching trainer. He then stretched and resumed his gaze. He hoped the trainer would leave him alone.

Girafarig was reaching up for another leaf when Rin let out their command, but his tail alerted him to the danger. He quickly turned around. He fully expected a charging battle hungry Pokemon, but instead he was greeted by a shining light. He had been preparing to use Confusion, but it didn't seem necessary after all. As the light faded from Olotah's body, Girafarig began to back away carefully.

The sun was setting low in the sky, Liz had been walking for hours with nothing eventful happening. She knew she would have to set up camp soon, and as moisture began returning to the air she spotted a Purrloin lazily lounging nearby. She was to worn out to battle and just wanted rest.

"I tell you what my feline friend, I am going to camp right here for the night. I promise I won't battle you, if you don't believe me, you can run. But if you don't mind some silent company, I have some pokemon food here I would be will to share with you??" She slowly grabbed out a tin of food as she prepared to sleep, she began nawing on her own food as she kept a half an eye on the wild pokemon.

The wild Purrloin listened as Liz spoke to him. The offer was enticing, and maybe some silent company wouldn't be that bad, as long as she didn't try to talk or anything. After thinking all this over, the wild Purrloin nodded it's head slowly and let out an appreciative purr. He hopped up an off his rock to get a few bites of food. When his appetite was satisfied, he returned to the rock and nodded off to sleep.

The wild pokemon eyed Liz cautiously, she did her best to make no sudden movements. Purrloin ate silently and returned to it's rock. Liz slowly drifted off to sleep her dream became vivid. She stood tall and proud looking out at a sea of thunderous applause.

"Everyone, please allow me to introduce your Pokemon Champion,
Liz!!"
She smiled and waved, off to the side Rin was crying their eyes out after a landslide defeat. Liz looked over and smiled to her friend.

"Rin, my first order of business is you become your own gym leader, we are to teach the next group of trainers. Might as well learn from one of the best huh??" Liz awoke smiling to herself, Rin would hate that dream. The Purrloin was still sound asleep on it's rock, Liz left a little more Pokefood for it and silently packed up and went on her way.

By the time Purrloin woke, Liz was long gone, but the young trainer had left behind some food. Purrloin smiled to himself.

As Liz walked onward toward Nasi Town, the first rays of the morning sun were just beginning to peak over the horizon. If she kept this pace up, she would arrive just before noon.

That's when a Pokemon popped out of the tall grass ahead. Very nonchalantly, the Herdier began walking toward Liz. His body language was very lax, not a concern in the world. He wasn't attacking or anything, just walking by.

Liz walked until the sun began peeking over the horizon. She was making great time, she expected to be in Nasi town before nightfall!! As she walked she passed a wild Herdier, it was minding its own business but Liz could pass up a chance to get stronger.

"Sorry Herdier, I need to strengthen my pokemon for the next gym battle!! Come on out Hephaestus, activate your Z-Power!!" Chimchar popped out, channeling it's Crystal and began glowing.

Herdier didn't outwardly react to Liz's words, but he got the message. Hephaestus popped out of his Pokeball and began to activate the Z-Crystal on command. Since the crystal was Normalium, he instinctively began to use the one damaging normal attack in his arsenal, Scratch.

While the whole situation was definitaly a drag, Herdier wasn't about to sit there and let the attack land. Instead, he charged forward with a powerful Take Down. His attack landed on the little monkey Pokemon before he was finished preparing his crystal powered attack. Hephaestus was sent tumbling.

Herdier sighed as he got up, off of the fainted Pokemon. He then ran off into the tall grass.

Liz recalled Chimchar to it's pokeball, she knew she most likely wouldn't have won, but she need the experience for her Pokemon to get stronger. She went on her way South once more, a little while after that she crested a small hill and could see the town of Nasi in the distance. She broke into a run hoping to get there before something else happened to her.

As Liz ran the sun began to rise, she zoomed past wild Pokemon left and right, not stopping for any of them. Obviously, she had a goal and would not be detoured.

The town was sleepy when she arrived. A few shops were preparing to open, but for the most part, people were still sleeping. Half of the people that were walking the streets were also holding their heads or looking far out of it in some other way. It was as if the entire city was sick for some reason, truly an apocalyptic site to behold.

As Liz walked, a large man stumbled out from an alley way and almost crashed into her. Luckily, the Pokemon walking by his side (a large Haxorus) caught him before he could fall on top of her.

The man verbally lashed out at her through clenched teeth. "Hey! Watch-" He visibly had to hold back vomit. "-where you're going." After a moment, his eyes focused in on the person he was speaking to. "Oh, sorry little girl." Grabbing his forehead, the man began to walk off, one arm around his Haxorus.

Liz walked through Nasi, everyone seemed to be fitting a cold. Worried she decided that she was going to be sparing on releasing her Pokemon nearby. As she walked a man came out of an alley, he bumped into her and gruffly pushed her away cursing her. A Haxorous helped propped the man as the walked away apologizing. Liz ran up to the man.

"Excuse me sir, what's going on, everyone seems to be extremely sick." She asked the man offering to help him.

The Girafarig spun around just in time to see Olotah's light show. With a bit of its Power drained, Rin fingers twitched over their pokéball belt. They knew Olotah didn't have the raw power or STAB to really face The Long Neck Pokémon, but Anusobeket definitely wasn't in any condition to fight. So Rin had two options: Keep using Olotah, and hope to get off at least one more decent attack at the risk of Olo fainting, and thus having the Girafarig flee; or Rin could send out Osajyin who had both the power and STAB, but risked knocking out the Girafarig. It felt like an impossible choice. 'What should I do? I need to think quick,' Rin thought as they watched the wild pokémon started to back off. 'If only I had Quick B- that's it!' Rin snatched the Standard Pokéball from their belt, and pulled back their arm and leg in a perfect pitcher's pose. "Oh no, you don't! I've been waiting for this day since I was seven!" Without another word the Trainer vigorously threw the pokéball at the slightly weakened Girafarig across the hill. Both of them at near equal strength, it was as fair of a fight either of them were gonna get. Rin just hoped fate was in their favor. The leveling at least was.
