The individual, (not on this site), that makes me look like a natural joker due to an inability to take any sort of joke or read beyond literal interpretation. @Ms Patoots Which slur? Because queer actually means strange or odd. And now that I think about it, fag is British slang for a cigarette.

@Grim I've seen this crop up multiple times over my roleplaying career (I know it's not really a career, but that's the word that popped into my head.). As for the exact word, There have been different ones I've seen used, but they are all clearly used as homophobic slurs. Like the context is clear.

It's regular word to some people in a non hate use.

Queer has fallen out of use for many years, it's meaning kinda implies homosexuality etc, not strange more often than not.

I dunno, I still use queer sometimes. Depends on the setting. A roleplay based in the late 1800s - early 1900s would be thematically appropriate to use queer in its original context, for example.

Not naming any names, but I sometimes encounter people incorporating homophobic slurs into roleplay, either as something a character says, or simply in narration. And it immediately puts me off the roleplay. Even if they correct the usage once I point it out, I'm always left with that niggling doubt in the back of my mind. "Am I roleplaying with a homophobe." I don't like the idea of that, but i also hate the idea of dropping a roleplay due to personal differences. I don't know. I'm a confused mess about this and needed to vent, and maybe get some advice.
