Liz walked through Nasi, everyone seemed to be fitting a cold. Worried she decided that she was going to be sparing on releasing her Pokemon nearby. As she walked a man came out of an alley, he bumped into her and gruffly pushed her away cursing her. A Haxorous helped propped the man as the walked away apologizing. Liz ran up to the man.

"Excuse me sir, what's going on, everyone seems to be extremely sick." She asked the man offering to help him.

Liz's voice stopped the man before he could get very far. With two fingers, he pinched the bridge of his nose between his tightly shut eyes. A deep sigh escaped his mouth before he managed to get out his response, "Kid, this is Nasi town. It's basically party central for the whole region. And last night, well yesterday was a Saturday. Use your head kid. Now leave me alone. I'm out of fucks to give."

As the man turned to walk away again, the hair on his neck shifted a bit. This revealed the rest of a formally hidden tattoo, a fist with spikes on it.

The Girafarig spun around just in time to see Olotah's light show. With a bit of its Power drained, Rin fingers twitched over their pokéball belt. They knew Olotah didn't have the raw power or STAB to really face The Long Neck Pokémon, but Anusobeket definitely wasn't in any condition to fight. So Rin had two options: Keep using Olotah, and hope to get off at least one more decent attack at the risk of Olo fainting, and thus having the Girafarig flee; or Rin could send out Osajyin who had both the power and STAB, but risked knocking out the Girafarig. It felt like an impossible choice. 'What should I do? I need to think quick,' Rin thought as they watched the wild pokémon started to back off. 'If only I had Quick B- that's it!' Rin snatched the Standard Pokéball from their belt, and pulled back their arm and leg in a perfect pitcher's pose. "Oh no, you don't! I've been waiting for this day since I was seven!" Without another word the Trainer vigorously threw the pokéball at the slightly weakened Girafarig across the hill. Both of them at near equal strength, it was as fair of a fight either of them were gonna get. Rin just hoped fate was in their favor. The leveling at least was.

Rin's Pokeball came flying toward Girafarig. With a sharp pop, it opened up and pulled the long necked Pokemon inside. The ball began to shake.

Once....
....Twice....
.......Thrice....

POP!

The ball popped back open. Girafarig looked stunned. What had just happened? He would have to be even more careful now...

Result: Not Quite

As the pokéball fell to the ground, having had sealed the pokémon inside, Rin crouched down in anticipation. Their eyes bore into the device like lasers. They needed this. With every roll, their eyes widened farther and farther, until appeared the spheres would bug right out of their skull. With an explosion of white light, Rin jerked back from their watching position. 'Son of a-' The Girafarig's wild cry signaling their defeat. That was it. Rin had to try harder. They wouldn't have another shot at this. Pulling out two pokéballs, Rin switched pokémon. Their eyes staring down the wild pokémon with a hawkish glare; just daring the Girafarig to even try and back off again. Trading their Painter Pokémon with their Leaf Pokémon, Rin sent out Osajyin and recalled Olotah.

"You did well, Olo, but I need someone more Girafarig's size." Sprouting from their Standard Pokéball, Osajyin cracked their neck to wake himself up from his nap. He yawned and blinked bleary-eyed. He might not have been entirely healed, but Rin had no doubt he could take the Long Neck Pokémon evenly matched with a Poison Powder. 'Or maybe Synthesis would be best since any damage it dealt would be split in half?' Desicions, desicions. Hopefully the Girafarig had stuck around, so that Rin could actually make them. If not, well . . . that Girafarig would need much more than just eighty-five base speed to outrun Rin. Through hell, high water, and a restricting binder, Rin would have a Girafarig. That they were sure of.

As the man walked away Liz caught just the smallest glimpse of a familiar tattoo. That man with the violent Exadrill had the same tattoo. Liz began quietly, she stuck to the shadows and building corners as she followed the mysterious man, hoping his hangover would prevent him from being overly cautious. She wished she had some back up to do this but she will have to do it alone.

Osajyin popped out from his Pokeball. Rin was running through all the possibilities in their head until, under their breath, they gave the Synthesis command. Sleepily, Osajyin obeyed. A shining light began to emit from his lazy body.

Girafarig wasn't about to stand there and watch as Osajyin built up power for some attack. Instead, he immediately launched an attack of his own, Confusion. A psychic burst of energy waved toward its target. This stopped Osajyin from completing his Synthesis, but it was still effective somewhat. Osajyin was looking just a little more awake, and the Girafarig was slightly put off guard.

Without even meaning to Rin had whispered a command for Osajyin. Upon seeing the glare of Osaja's light from the corner of their eyes and hearing the burst of psionic energy their eyes snapped towards the Girafarig with fearful inspection. "Osajy-!" Rin paused. The wild pokémon looked . . . okay? It staggered backwards a bit, but otherwise looked pretty similar to how it had before Osajyin's attack. If Rin were a weaker person, they'd think this situation truly hopeless at this point. What could they do?! Now the Trainer didn't know if they needed to call Olotah back out due to his lower level, but then that risked the Girafarig running off, and there was also no guarantee that Olotah could get lucky again with another small attack, yet Osajyin wasn't exactly a safe option either! Rin pulled on their hair, and let out an incoherent rambling of frustrated growls.

Osajyin could only watch his Trainer with apprehensive concern from afar. 'Should I . . . keep fighting, or . . .' If the Leaf Pokémon had proper fingers, he'd be scathing his head right now in contemplation. Looking back over at his "opponent" Osaja could tell he was probably half his level or so; not a threat. From just one look at the other pokémon, Osaja could tell this kid was definitely on the shy side. With those two facts assessed, he felt comfortable enough to sit down and wait for his Trainer to regain their composure. Hopefully they'd have a strategy, but if not? No bigger. Osajyin was perfectly content to just lay h-

"Synthesis!" Rin looked like an absolutely ruined mixture of miserable and stubborn. They were on their knees, and pulling down the sides of their face which was marred with anxiety. Through all of this, the intensity in their eyes shined exceptionally bright as trying to inspire Osajyin with some specific, nameless goal in mind. Osajyin merely blinked in return. Rin's confidence faltered, and they fell to support themself on their hands as well their knees. "Please just do it before I change my mind." Osajyin didn't have the heart to even comment on the defeated sound in their voice. He may have only met Rin today, but everything about the aspiring champion told Osaja that that tone coming from that teen was the epitome of wrong. Instead of using his pokéspeak, the Leaf Pokémon lit up as confirmation.

As the man walked, Liz followed. She was doing well to hide from the drunken fellow, but she wasn't as lucky with the Haxorous. Quietly, he muttered to his trainer, "Haxorous...". The man nodded in understanding, and continued to walk as if nothing was wrong.

Liz continued to follow. All of a sudden the man took a sudden sharp turn down an alley way. With skill and presision, the man recalled his Haxorous and sent out his Flygon at the same time, quietly issuing the FLY command. With surprising agility, considering his condition, the man leaped up and landed upon the Flygon just as it finished materializing from it's ball. They were off like lightning.

By the time Liz could reach the corner, it was too late. There was no trace of the man, and the alley was clearly a dead end. It was as if he pulled off an impossible disappearing act.

Osaja's body began to glow once more. A little winded, the wild Girafarig wasn't able to muster up another Confusion attack in time. Instead, he remained still, captivated by the light. It warmed his little heart, in a daze he began to slowly inch forward. His careful natured instincts were not acting up anymore. Something told him, "It would all be okay if he just went to the light."

Liz quietly followed the man, she was thankful that he wasn't paranoid. The man and his Haxorous turned a corner, Liz was quick to follow. She followed them into the alley way and was surprised to see the man was gone!! How had he spotted her?? Confused and fustrated she spun around and went to the Pokemon center, after a light snack and her Pokemon getting rest she went off and found the gym. She walked in with all the confidence she could muster, as before she saw trainers milling about and battling.

"My name is Liz from Zuerest town, and I come to battle for my second badge!! Who here will accept my challenge??" She called out to the other people.

Liz's grand entrance was rather anticlimactic. One badge was still nothing to turn heads about it seemed. One boy did take notice of her antics though. Over the top of a book, he watched as Liz looked around. He found her boisterous challenge more annoying than anything else. He wanted nothing more than to return to his reading.

That's when a woman stumbled up to him. She was an attractive woman indeed, until she opened her mouth, "Hey Jefferey, ya little shit." Her words were slurred. The woman was already drunk. "You haven't done a damn thing since you got in today, not one battle. Go entertain our guest, and you better win this time!"

"Sure, whatever! Just get your stink breath out of my face."

The boy named Jefferey walked across the room. His reading music was turned off, but he didn't bother taking the ear buds out. "Hey you, Lizzy or whatever. My sis says we have to battle. So yeah... lets do that."

Rin could have choked on the shavings from having ground down their teeth to dust in trepidation. What if Osajyin got a critical hit? What if Osajyin missed? What if the Girafarig got a critical hit? What if Osajyin only did one damage again making this whole situation even more tumultuous? Even as the trainer stared at the ground, they could see their immediate surroundings light up as a sure sign of Osajyin's Synthesis. 'Dammit, Rin, snap out of it,' they chastised themself in their head. Rin balled their fists between the blades of grass beneath them. 'Worse come to worse, you can always hunt after that cutie. Only Izumi's ever beaten you in a race, and that's cuz she totally cheats! You got this. So just look up, idiot!' After another round of mentally berating and encouraging themself, Rin pulled their head up by their shoulder-length hair, forcing their eyes to look at the outcome of fight. It was . . . absolutely astonishing. The wild Girafarig, which had looked so skittish before, was actually . . . walking towards Rin?! Their jaw hung open before slamming shut into a cheshire smile. Trading their open mouth for open arms, Rin flew forward like a Lopunny using Bounce; practically prancing the whole way over to the Long Neck Pokémon to surround him in their loving embrace.

Osajyin just stood back and watched his Trainer wrap their arms around what would be his new brother with a content smile. He had done his job well, and now it was time to sit back and relax. Settling back into his comfortable spot from just mere moments ago, his eyes rested on the sight of Rin calling out the rest of their team from their respective pokéballs. It was a nice nap while it lasted. Osaja had even slept through Anusobeket climbing up his neck, and all three of his "siblings" chattering away around him. However the time to get up was made very clear by Rin hopping on Osajyin's back and demanding the Leaf Pokémon get in gear. If that hadn't disturbed his slumper, Rin's immediately proceeding laughter sure did the trick. His Trainer didn't actually expect to be carried, but they did inform Osajyin it was time to head back to their little campsite on the beach. Calm as ever, Osaja got up and strolled towards his destination. As he passed the newly captured Girafarig the Bayleef gave him a warm smile of welcoming, which was returned with a sheepish simper. Rin was obviously very excited about catching this one, so Osajyin had high hopes that his Trainer had good taste in friends. Rin was also quite clearly pleased it seemed they were all getting along, and they slung their arms around the two of their necks. With a pep in their step the trainer walked like this until they arrived at their beach camp. Once there, Rin promptly excused themself to have the privacy to finally relieve their chest from the strain of their binder; storing it away in their backpack along with their hearing aids and the rest of their clothes as they changed into their baggy pajamas.

| January 1st, Night |

Having used up the last of their starting pokéballs, Rin beamed with giddy as they settled in their extra-large tent, surrounded on either side by their sleeping bag and sleepy pokémon. After enthusiastically retelling the Pokédex information of each of their pokémon, Rin's attention was suddenly caught by the sight of two notification icons on the top right corner of the Pokédex's screen. Clicking on them, Rin delightfully discovered they were from Liz!

"I guess we will see what will happen then Rin. Don't forget:
I am going to win next we meet!!"

Rin was going to respond with furiously competitive vigor, despite being hours late, but halted halfway through their arrogant reply when they saw her second message.

"Calling it a night, hope your day was somewhat better than mine!!"

Having paused long enough to notice Anusobeket trying to read over their shoulder, Rin really thought about it. This all really had been just the first day of their Pokémon Journey. The first day of the rest of their life. Memories of meeting their new made-family washed over their mind like a waterfall. Just as their thoughts drifted to the faces of the family they left behind Rin felt compelled to sit up in the tent and hold all their Pokémon close. 'Come on Rin, don't get that sentimental.' Coming from someone who had three sisters, the hug was an impossibly tight fit even for Rin, but they wouldn't have it any other way. In the morning they knew would have to put together the world's sweetest, longest, cheesiest monolog about the value of friendship and expectations vs reality, but right now? Right now Rin was currently passed out under the cuddling pile of their pokémon. It was only day one, but Rin could almost vibrate from the radiating love that surrounded them. It was such an innocent, pure, and fast-formed love that one could only experience from interacting with pokémon. It was truly a form of magic on its own. Rin couldn't feel the cold of the early winter air, or the even the simmering discomfort of dysphoria they'd had since taking off their binder. Rin could only feel at peace as they sunk into dreamland. After all this time, it looked like tomorrow really would have to wait even longer . . .

. . .

. . . but it didn't wait long . . .

The sun landed softly on Rin and their pile of Pokemon. A wild Furret and two wild Sentret were chasing each other happily around a bush. They were sure off to an early start.

When Rin began to stir, they all took notice. They stopped in their tracks and stared at the young trainer. Before Rin's eye's could open fully and focus in on the group, they disappeared into the retreat of tall grass. The sun shined brightly on the bush they left behind. Two ripe red Cheri Berries glistened in the light.

Liz waited for someone to accept her challenge, most people were to busy training or drinking to really notice her though. All that was but for a young man reading, whom after being talked to by a drunken woman walked over to her. He accepted Liz's challenge and they found a space to battle. Liz called out Hephaestus and he looked up to her.

"You were my first friend I ever had, I want you by my side for every gym battle." The young Chimchar had a fire in his eyes that Liz hadn't yet seen, he was excited.

She called out Phoniks as the young man produced a Emolga, which made short work of Phoniks. Shortly she sent out Enyo, who made short work of the flying squirrel. The gym trainer than tossed out an Axew, which took down Enyo, Arachne, and Karrablast. But once Chloris came out Axew fell quickly. Cryogonal followed afterwards, but Liz knew she had this battle in the bag, a poison powder set a timer for her opponent and after a few powerful exchanges the ice pokemon fell at Bayleefs feet.

Liz jumped up and down excitedly, she looked over to Hephaestus who was still staring at the battlefield.

"Hey little buddy, are you-" She couldn't finish her sentence before the monkey pokemon began glowing, a tail grew out and the flame became larger, Hephaestus filled out a little more, gaining more muscle than before. His brow became more pronounced and turned blue, giving his head a more flame like look. The light faded and Hephaestus gave off a shout. "Oh my Arceus!! Hephaestus, you evolved!!" She danced even harder at the new development, than she remembered where she was and turned to the young man. "It was a lovely battle, thank you so much, may I please have my badge now?? And can you tell me where the next gym is??"

Jefferey had lost, but he didn't seem phased by it at all. Immediately after the battle was over, he turned his music back on. He would have walked away all together if Hephaestus wasn't evolving right before his very eyes. He admitted to himself, "Okay, that was cool."

Liz then turned her attention to the boy. He couldn't make out what she was saying through his music, but he could guess. She wanted her badge. Right... now where was the-

"Hey hey, nephew! You just got your but kicked!" A loud man walked up from behind and patted Jefferey on the shoulder, a little too hard. He seemed slightly inebriated, as was the norm around here, but for the most part, he was well put together. The real givaway that anything was off about him was simply his loud jolly way of speaking, "It's okay though. I can tell that this little girl here is destined for the top! She's got that drive! You could learn a thing or two from her!"

Jefferey gave the man a death stare before walking away.

"Here you go, girlie!" The man laughed at his non-existent joke as he handed her the Nasi Badge. "And I hear ya loud and clear on the whole 'next gym' thing. You're ready to keep on battling! I like it! Hmmmm... let's see... You could take route 9 and then go south, down route 10. There is a gym in the town on that island. Or you could take Route 8 and Route 27. There is a gym in that town down there I think.... Hmm.... Yep! Those are your best bets. Is that all you wanna know?"

Rin wiggled underneath their pokémon as a strip of sunlight dragged across their eyes. They considered fighting their growing wakefulness, but the growingly familiar warble of a Furret brought them to full attention. Launching themself from their cuddle puddle, Rin smacked face first into the obviously closed tent door. Anusobeket laughed lazily as she rose from her sleep, and Olotah threw himself against the tent's wall assuming this must be a very important morning ritual for his Trainer; routine is very important to hone an artist's potential afterall, so Olotah easily respected their trainer's sticktoitiveness. Unsurprisingly, Osajyin slept through the debacle.

Zipping down the tent's entrance, Rin bolted out undeterred. "Come on, Gerseti! Fighting a Furret is like tradition for us!" Skidding a bit to slow themself down, Rin looked back at their Girafarig. He'd learned of his new nickname after Rin had thrown him from his pokéball shortly following being captured. Despite the lovely welcome, he was still a cautious pokémon, so he only meekly staggered out of the tent just enough to scan his surroundings. "Hey, don't fret. If you lose, you'll still be ahead of Anusobeket in terms of Furret fights." This earned sharp protest form the Big Jaw Pokémon, but Rin just smirked as he pulled her close. Rin wasn't intentionally teasing as it was the truth, but they knew how to play along; they nuzzled her into their side just to give her a playfully light noogie. The two's giggling appeared to be infectious as the little scene inspired a small smile from Gerseti who finished stepping out the tent, allowing the naively curious Olotah to walk around the beach; Osajyin not far behind him.

"That's it, bud! Let's go check out those noises." While Rin, Anu, and Geri would quickly discover Cheri Berries to be the only trace left of the source of the noise, Olotah was off splashing in the shallow water and enjoying being so close to the waters they'd been drawing just yesterday. Osajyin bathed in the morning sun, and held his eyes closed, totally unaware of any possible threats that may have taken notice of his younger brother's playing. That is, if something didn't pop out his Trainer first!

Two Cheri Beries in hand, Rin was obviously feeling good. Their whole team seemed to be waking up nicely.

But not everyone was ready to be waking up at the crack of dawn. Up inside a tree nearby Rin, a Larvesta was getting woken up by the trainer's party. He was not happy in the least. With a serious demeanor, the Larvesta crawled down the tree trunk until he was visible. To get the trainer's attention, he shot out an Ember, which landed at Rin's feet.

Rin was feeling pretty good as they dropped the Cheri Berries into their Berries Pouch. Paralysis had to be Rin's least favorite status effect. When it was used against them that is. They remembered just as many fond memories as they did irritating ones from battles involving the condition that had been waged with loan pokémon from the Zurest Trainer School. It also bugged them on a personal level, as Rin hated feeling trapped or held back. With that in mind Rin realized they needed to get going to Sunsay! It was still early so maybe they could beat Liz there. As Rin prattled off to Anusobeket about the perfect timing to jump out at Liz when she eventually made it the Pokémon Center, the hearing-aid-less trainer's dulled sense of hearing failed to alert them of the encroaching Larvesta.

Gerseti immediately picked up what his Trainer had not, and was a second away from Tackling them out of harm's way, when the Torch Pokémon shot an Ember right where Rin was going to take their next left step. Gerseti started backing away as Rin slowly turned around with a smile so hopeful and exuberant it looked painful. When Rin finished spinning on their right heel, they deflated and comically bent in half with disappointment. "Oh . . . I thought you were gonna be a Cyndaquil."

"Tota . . .", Anusobeket sounded just as discouraged. However the two snapped back up so fast it made Gerseti question if they'd prepared this reaction or if the the headstrong duo really were that in sync. Their personalities surely were.

"No matter! We may not be taking you with us, but we sure as heck will be taking you down!" With a dramatic point of their finger, which Gerseti was begining to think was the trainer's signature, Anusobeket fell from her place in Rin's arms and landed with a fierce glare at the wild pokémon. Gerseti could only back up further. This was looking a little too familiar. "Teach that Fire Type a lesson in manners! Use Water Gun!" And with that, the Big Jaw Pokémon opened wide with a harsh torrent of water.

Liz walked through the forest for a while, until she came upon a lake. The sun was getting low in the sky at this point, and the lake, well it seemed to be nothing more than an extension of Nasi Town. People were drinking and having a great time on their boats. It was all rather unremarkable considering all that Liz had seen today.

There was one unique sight though, a rather sad one at that. A little boy sat underneath a tree, crying. Sitting beside him was a small Sableye. The Sableye mime whistled, as if he didn't have a care in the world, completely oblivious to his trainer's sadness.

"Tota . . .", Anusobeket sounded just as discouraged.

A torrent of water launched out of Totodile's mouth, straight for the opponent, but unfortunately, the Larvesta was quick. With a flutter of his insect wings, he avoided the attack and released a String Shot. The sticky substance landed firmly on Totodile's face, blinding her. But it didn't stop there, the string just kept coming. In a matter of moments, poor Anu was covered head to toe in the sticky substance. She was immobilized.

Satisfied with his revenge, the Larvesta flew away.
