Most annoyances are things that the people find faults in. With this one I know the fault is with me, but that makes it even more annoying.

An RP I'd like to join but there are 100 posts, they're all five paragraphs at the minimum, and nobody is remotely interested in giving me a recap either out of laziness or an expectaion for me to catch up myself. I have college. I don't have a free week to marathon all your posts.

Also if there's a well-built world but it's *too* well-built and you're expected to read eleven thousand word essays on the social, economic and political systems of the world you're in, etc.

Theres world building. And not needing to onow how the city councilors are elected and how many districts in a city etc. If it matters it can be added in when it comes round via GM posts.

Eh, I'd sort of disagree. I recently asked to join an RP that is well into 200 advanced posts. Before I even asked I made sure to have at least skim read every post so I had an idea where the story is at and who the characters are. I'll be sure to thoroughly read it all before I join too. That's just me, but I want to know the story, I want to see how people write - and I just think it's a massive sign of respect to the work that's already been put in by every individual involved.

It really wouldn't take you too long to catch up and read it.

Depends of you have time to read all those posts. 100 long posts is alot to read when they 500 words + that's. 50,000 words, or 5 full college dosertation essays at BA level.
Sometimes q skim read and asking for a quick version and time line of events roughly helps alot to allow easier joining.

Ie a general outline of events, charceters and where it roughly going.

Putting a warning at the start of your post that your bitch is a problem with yourself doesn't make you exempt from criticism.

But it does look fucking absurd, when it only selectively happens when dozens upon dozens make the same point, without a peep from any opposition. Though in your particular case, everyone you responded to didn't make it a personal attack (or even a criticism) against you directly. (I guess unless you include the last sentence from @Stormfly which is a fairly tame statement. That could be encouragement, depending on tone.) @Stormfly just disagreed, and said it would be beneficial to catch up and that it's important to read. As did @Inkarnate. You shared your personal thoughts, but so did they. It wouldn't have mattered if that was a general statement or a personal one. They both just have a more strict opinion when it comes to reading the entire section/thread.

And though I understand your struggle, I also agree that reading everything (should) be important for someone that is participating in the roleplay in almost every circumstance. If it's too much and you still feel like joining more RP's, start some 1x1's or something. (I hope you feel like my response also isn't an attack.) :3

Generally when I'm interested in a game that's been going for a while, I read back 2-3 pages to get an idea of what's going on and a sense for the characters. Usually after I join said game, curiosity more than anything will prompt me to read the whole RP when it's slow going.

Like when I joined Fruits of Contention, I was starting in the second story arc. I didn't read the first one (about 6 pages of content), just the OOC info, character sheets, and a few posts back to get a sense of the game. Considering I ended up as one of the most active players/ coGM, I'd say I did okay.

In regards to the summary thing, I am going to start recording them on the 0th IC post for prospective players.
