We've tried it both ways now between this and Mk. 1, and I have to say that in this iteration starting with all dry land was probably a mistake. It needn't be a 100% oceanic planet like in Mk. 1, but just having mostly oceans would go a long ways towards making a more natural-looking map if nothing else.


Yup, raising land out of oceans is a better idea than carving oceans into land I think. And that helped a lot with Mk.I when we decided that the initial landmass was too small/constraining and voila, created a giant, detailed landmass elsewhere.

Okay, so after a long discussion debate argument catfight discussion with @WrongEndoftheRainbow, he's requested to take on the role of map-maker from the get go.

As such, unless someone was attached to it, we've decided to ditch the random map and will be having a new map, designed by Wrongend, that will hopefully be as diverse and unexpected as a random map, without any issues with functionality.

We're currently figuring out some ideas to keep in mind to ensure an exciting map. Please add to them if you have any important suggestions.

There should be...

-Land dispersed across many latitudes.
-At least one, or two, large continents with variable elevation and room for inland travel.
-Enough water to get between landmasses.
-Enough land to allow extended over-land interactions and reduce the dominance of water power.
-Landmasses covering several degrees of both latitude or longitude, allowing multiple climates on the continents with enough space in each to share if need be (cosiness not guaranteed).
-Islands, archipelagos, inland seas, large lakes, isthmuses, straits, bays, mountains, all that.
-A vague idea of tectonic rifts.

And that's all I can think of so far.

Ed: additions:

-An ocean on the equator and a large amount of north-south area to be a convenient antimeridian
-An accessible location for Mater Lei, preferably on the prime meridian, preferably on a beach (but not an island).

@Antarctic Termite Is that something we should try discussing once the thread is up? Feels odd to leave the new players out.

Also, we are doing that "God Oasis" idea right? If so, an area that is convenient for a super secret divine land would be nice.

I'm not too fussed. I think I've exhausted anything I feel too strongly about and will be happy with whatever else is decided. Random map, wrongend map, no map; ocean to land or land to ocean; secret divine land or no secret divine land; I don't mind either way.

@Double Capybara yeah true good point

on the other hand, the map is still 'random', even though it's hand-crafted- we're just working out ~approximately what it needs to have to ensure a diversity of gameplay. We could certainly wait if that's fine with Wrongend.

It's probably sort of half in, half out. The Door is definitely a pocket dimension of sorts, somewhere in Lei's basement, but I think it's better for the gods to make their first wonders above ground, in a mappable location, given that it's the place from where the gods will start spreading out.

I imagine it will exist out of phase with the rest of Galbar, though, and be inaccessible to the uninvited. Wanderers to the site will just find Mater Lei's fortress.

ed: there will be portals leading to Lei's pad from elsewhere on the planet, mind, so it will basically exist in several places at once (say, on both major continents).

I do like the idea of it being a place in the map, lots of RP potential in that. Plus it look cools and is a sensible center to the map while also making it look more mystical.

@Muttonhawk not sure if you mentioned this already, but when in the timeline did the Mafie episode take place? I'm guessing it was sometime post-Realta but pre-Xerxes? A considerable amount of time must have passed for her tale to become legendary by the time of Mira & co.

@Muttonhawk not sure if you mentioned this already, but when in the timeline did the Mafie episode take place? I'm guessing it was sometime post-Realta but pre-Xerxes? A considerable amount of time must have passed for her tale to become legendary by the time of Mira & co.


Unfortunately, my timeline is hain-centric, so it hasn't followed the dwarves too closely. However, Mafie's story takes place before the dwarves underwent furry metamorphosis, so probably a loooong time ago. Before Xerxes, maybe even before the realta. You'd probably get a better estimate of the timeframe from Wrongend and/or Termite.

Also, I should probably update that timeline, hm. A few points in hain history have come about in the last couple of pages I've yet to incorporate.

@Muttonhawk@Antarctic Termite@BBeast also also also, I mentioned this to Termite already, but with regards to Thacel, @Malchivo's demigod of war, his last post has him headed for Rukbany and I somewhat want that to happen, given the warkriegs that will likely be taking off there. I messaged Malch about this a while back, but he's not been on in a loong time. Would one of you be willing to play Thacel in Rukbany? Or alternatively, is it ok if I takeover purely for Rukbany's purposes, and then release him to whoever would like him interacting with their characters/peoples/civilisations/god etc.

@Kho I'd say you can outright adopt Thacel if you like. Malchivo has been absent for long enough, I think. Besides, I don't think it would do well for the father/son dynamic if I were to play Thacel.

Perhaps don't think it would do well is a bit strong. It wouldn't be as much fun is a better way to put it.

Temporal anomalies are to be expected from the god of Memes(Time). Nobody has noticed that ants can timetravel because who pays attention to ants anyays.

Odd you should say ants aren't noticeable though, my current post-in-progress features a fairly big ant xD
