This is more or less a general interest check on a few ideas.
Writing level would be Casual, to near one liners depending on situation. Might work in Discord depending on what people here like.

So, question time!

1. Discord or no for conversations that don't require a lot of extra writing between naritive?

2. Space and aliens sci-f, High Fantasy world wide adventure, or horror, death, and suspense?

3. Preferences of Combat, Exploration, Role-playing, Moral Dilimas, Puzzle/Traps, Crime, Murder Hoboing, Meta-Gameing, Power Gaming, Politics, and War/Nations. Just list your favorite 3 or 4, and maybe give me some insight as to why.

4. How active do you like NPCs to be? Do you like having them in the party or at least strong enough to survive following the party, or do you prefer them to stay on the side lines so the PCs can enjoy all glory? Maybe a mix? Why?

5. Bigger or smaller groups?

6. Homebrew cool?

I think that's all. If I run anything here it will all be original work. I might run a RWBY setting if convinced.

EDIT

So after my 4 month hiatus from lack of reliable internet its time for my grand rebirth.

After viewing the surveys most of you guys seem to...

1. Be so so with Discord for OOC. This idea won't be scraped unless by popular vote of my cast. The campaign itself will also potentiality sway this.

2. Fantasy seems to be the overarching way to go for this community. Ill work on refining this after getting together a cast.

3. Heavy role playing. Seeing as this is on a role playing site I'm shocked. Really. I expected nothing but per number guys. XD

Combat, exploration, power gaming, and nation/world building came in as the next most important stuff. This is fine.

4. NPCs will be minor charters for the most part, but able to hold their own if required as required by plot. So legendary heroes can kick ass, noble prince/ss to rescued can't.

NPCs can join the party at the cast discretion and be helpful, but should never over shadow them as much as support them.

5. Really mixes reviews here. But I'm feeling a smaller group. 3 - 5 people.

6. Homebrew is a go. Trust nothing. Muhahahaha.
I Homebrew more or less 70% of my campaigns. I've gotten damn good at balancing stuff. So no worries.

If people want to play a homebrewed race and/or class I'm willing to work with you. But anything Homebrew is subject to DM discretion and changes. If it came from Dandiwiki expect me to nerf it with the fist of an angry god.

RWBY won't be happening.

That all said Im now going to start crafting a campaign for you guys. All still interested feel free to sign up. Id like for you to at the very least be able to post once a week. Even if its just a few lines to let us know your character has gone to sleep or is standing back to watch things unfold.

Once I have a few people we'll talk details about characters you might like to play, or settings you might like to explore.

I have plenty of ideas, but well get there.

Hey i'd love to join a D&D 5th game

1. Discord or no for conversations that don't require a lot of extra writing between narrative?

I like discord since It helps people coordinate and do back to back dialogue easier

2. Space and aliens sci-f, High Fantasy worldwide adventure, or horror, death, and suspense?

High fantasy but mostly cause I like Rebellion stories and army battles

3. Preferences of Combat, Exploration, Role-playing, Moral Dilemmas, Puzzle/Traps, Crime, Murder Hoboing, Meta-Gaming, Power Gaming, Politics, and War/Nations. Just list your favorite 3 or 4, and maybe give me some insight as to why.

Personally, I love Power gaming and Murder hoboing but mostly cause internally I can't stand not finding the most powerful builds. Story-wise I enjoy tactics and puzzles as well as plot twists, politics, and plans. Any post I can spend hours looking over to try and find clues mostly since another site's taught me to be a paranoid fuck.

4. How active do you like NPCs to be? Do you like having them in the party or at least strong enough to survive following the party, or do you prefer them to stay on the side lines so the PCs can enjoy all glory? Maybe a mix? Why?

I think it depends. I don't think high-level NPCs should be permanent companions most of the time unless they're interesting enough to keep around and it doesn't disturb the balance of power too much. I don't mind powerful NPCs joining every now and again for a bit of time before leaving though but honestly I feel it should be decided on a case by case basis balancing how much spotlight's stolen by NPCs.

5. Bigger or smaller groups?

Bigger since you have to assume people will drop out and this site's PbP section's pretty small.

6. Homebrew cool?

Homebrew's fine if it makes the game flow easier or make more sense.

How would RWBY even work? Playing it using DnD 5th sounds kind of weird. Also what timelines like near when Ruby joins Beacon, an AU or some other time in the Future/Past? Strange question but if it's the start of Season 1 could we alter the timeline and somehow save Pyrah, Penny or FINALLY get Jaune Laid?

1) I'm mostly into discord for OOC banter and not so much interested in them for any serious RP purposes.

2) Since Starfinder came out I've been kinda interested in the idea of a more hi-tech sort of theme set using the base 5e ruleset. That being said, I'm also traditionally very interested in high fantasy.

3) Moral dilemmas and role-playing are prolly my top two, mostly because I've found that I just sorta like playing characters instead of just bland stat blocks that are meant to grind against other stat blocks until one or the other gives. Beyond that, I suppose I'm a fan of exploration, since it often helps to facilitate the other two.

4) I do love active NPCs. They let you banter about even when other players are busy or not interested and often seem to help keep the party gentle guided towards the plot train without the DM having to do anything too heavy-handed. That being said, I also tend to prefer that they lag behind the PCs a bit in terms of level, so that the PCs still do stand out as the stars of the story and not just minor supporting cast to the DM.

5) Frankly, it depends on the group. I would tend to say smaller, for the simple reason that big groups take forever to get through each round of initiative. On the other hand, if the party is allowed to be split and the different characters intermingle back and forth while out on different tasks it can circumvent that problem.

6) NO NEVER ABSOLUTELY NOT Fine by me. XD

As far as RBWY, I know nothing about the setting beyond the knowledge that it exists, so I don't really have any strong feelings on the matter.

With a lot of DM work, and homebrewing. But it can be done.
Who knows. Could save Pyrah, but you might end up killing Ruby. And Jaune can't get laid, Its a fixed point in time, I'm sorry.

@0 Azzy 0
Thank you. At this point I have an itch for Sci-fi as well. Not sure how the rest of the community is feeling yet.

I'm going to be waiting for more replies before I start compiling data and mulling over best campaign idea. Ideally I want at least four to five peoples responses, enough for a small group at least.

Would be incredibly interested in joining a DnD campaign.

1. Discord or no for conversations that don't require a lot of extra writing between naritive?

I'm okay with discord or any other platform for RPing. I am relatively new to text based RPs. However I have been learning from some very experienced individuals how to RP well.

2. Space and aliens sci-f, High Fantasy world wide adventure, or horror, death, and suspense?

I wouldnt mind going through a Sci-fi campaign.

I do enjoy combat, but have also grown into liking Role-playing a lot.

4. How active do you like NPCs to be? Do you like having them in the party or at least strong enough to survive following the party, or do you prefer them to stay on the side lines so the PCs can enjoy all glory? Maybe a mix? Why?

I have always preferred not having NPCs steal the spotlight, if only because our characters are supposed to be the hero in their story. However having one or two NPCs that we watch grow and possibly help throughout their arcs could be entertaining and help our characters grow.

5. Bigger or smaller groups?

I have only ever been in smaller groups, but I'm okay with trying larger groups.

6. Homebrew cool?

Always been a fan of homebrewed everything.

I look forward to seeing where all of this goes.

1. I am totally cool with discord, and it is actually my preferred method of conversation. I am so down for a text based rp, and again, would prefer it that way as I struggle to speak in general, let alone in the moment and in character.

2. I prefer High fantasy, have more characters in that in which I would love to play. That said, I have been dming a Starfinder campaign (dead suns) and have been itching to make something for it: be it a campaign or a player. I am super fine with suspense, death and the like as I trust your narrative writing.

3. I have a borderline fetish for moral dilemma's, Puzzles and Nation-building/world-building. This said and done, I am notoriously bad at restraining from minmaxing (I get so worried I will die otherwise) and as such I suppose if that's ok with you, I would enjoy to have it. otherwise, it is up to you. At the end of the day, I love table top games and roleplaying so much that so long as your campaign in well written, I will be more than happy.

4. I haven't put much thought into this. I find that this should be based on the npc themselves, more so on how the players feel about them. I definitely like them being important and reoccurring, but not so much that it's repetitive and boring. To have one in my party, I prefer such a thing to be rare or earned, but I can't complain about another hand and person to talk to.

5. I prefer small groups. Sorry, this is the one thing I put my foot down on, but I just get antsy and find a lack of challenge and coordination in bigger groups.

6. I love homebrew and anything you can make or find (so long as it has been properly tested and obviously balanced) I encourage. I may even ask you if I can use homebrew stuff myself!

I already know what you like you edgelord. XD Debating the GAZ stetting. Since the vote seems to go towards high fantasy, then sci-fi.

@manapool1
Could you define your idea of Nation/World building?

And I'm fine with MinMaxing, long as the characters make sense and don't act out accordingly from their stats and back grounds. The Orc Barbarian with 6 INT should not be quoting Shakespeare.

...unless their doing it horrendously inaccurately. That be hilarious. Have high CHA, people are messmerized by the experience and talk about this stranger with green skin telling the most wonderful of tales of the bard Shakes Spear.

I really like learning the lore, history, culture and general info of a kingdom/world and using that in the rp

Also, that's fine with me. I usually am not too bad, so you won't have to worry

Long time no see!

1. I'm good with Discord for the smaller moments, yeah, but I'd always prefer the forum.

2. Any and all, I can make it work. I'm particularly in to the Warhammer 40,000 universe right now, and can supply the neccesary PDFs for the universe.

3. Roleplaying is a must for me, I'm always pulled in to personal plots that focus on the players and the consequences of their actions, especially if the mechanics would rather have you just move on (combat in D&D explores this) after a battle. I'm all for crime, and politics are particularly neat.

4. I'd love a mix of NPCs that would be able to travel with us according to the plot, or would require us to care for them to keep them alive. It's through these experiences that even the smallest Imp can be more important to the players then the big bad. Camaraderie is a must, along with keeping these NPCs semi-useful to encourage player interactivity and a reason to keep them around.

5. I've always enjoyed smaller.

6. Homebrew is nice if it doesn't unbalance everything and instead adds to the experience.

Any introspect? Or just good with Yes?

@manapool1
That's great. I normally have way too much info for my world/DM notes that never gets to see the light of day.

@Denduris
Olla, please forgive me but I don't recognize your username. (^^)

Otherwise, thank you for the input. Warrhammer most likely won't be happening, much as I'd be interested in it, and would very much like the PDFs.
It's more of a I'd be lost beside knowing that I love Orks. XD

To everyone else. I think I have a good fist of the community. And enough interest to start a proper project. I'll be making a thread on this later today/week.

For you, and anyone else who would be interested in such a grim universe, here are the PDFs. You can find a whole host of other PDFs on this site as well, including but not limited to; Deadlands, Star Wars, Final Fantasy, various editions of Dungeons and Dragons, and a potentially very kinky Maid RPG that I wish I had never found.

It's all good, man. Like I said, I'm up for anything. D&D is a passion of mine.

Not gonna lie, the RWBY system I used was built on the bones of Dark Heresy. Being able to see the bones will let me refine that. ^_^

That said, this topic will be for DnD 5e. It'll take time for me to read, digest, wonder, reread, and plot out horrible death.

1.Discord is fine.
2.High fantasy, horrifying adventure.
3.Combat, exploration, and moral dillemmas.
4.Unless the the story requires it I don't want any NPC's in battle.
5. If I can't remember each character's details then there are too many characters.
6.Homebrew is fine, just don't rely on PDFs to the point that you don't use your own imagination.

This would be my first online campaign, and kinda my first one.. I guess.

1. I have discord, it's okay.
2.Horror and Suspense, I like the feeling of being spooked.
3.Combat, I like T-1, also I have a little interest in Politics for some reason.
4. Well, I think they can come with the group, though as long as we don't have to babysit them.
5.I'd like any size, maybe a small group to help me out if I'm violating the rules.
6. Sure.
