Titan Tower

Rooftop pool - Twilight

IC Limbo

All new arrivals will be escorted to the rooftop pool area, and it's views of San Francisco. Cabanas line the pool and allow some measure of privacy but the entire rooftop is designed for community; beyond the pool are various courts, sitting areas, fire pits, hot tubs, even an outdoor kitchen and grill area complete with seating for up to 20. A Virtual Intelligence is ever-present and ready to assist and answer all inquiries--it's name is Alice.

An athletic looking blonde girl with bright blue eyes resides in the cabana nearest the entrance to the pool area, wearing white leather sandals, and a light blue silk sundress, the red strap of a bathing suit top just visible along the neckline of the dress. Under the quiet ceiling fan in the cabana and the large flatscreen bolted to the cabana wall, between couch and two chairs (one of which she occupies) she seems to be studying blueprints.

To Titan Tower.

The elevator doors opened up onto the beautiful rooftop cabana, and as he stepped out, Jason Blood lifted his hand to his eyes to block out the sun. It was a bright day, and the tower he had until only recently called "Home" felt near enough to the sun to touch. He'd only been living in Titan Tower for nearly a week, had barely met another soul since being there. He'd bumped into a few other occupants in the halls, or in the kitchen, but for the most part everyone had mostly kept to themselves. Whether it was due to being anti-social or just shy in front of new faces, Jason Blood cared little. He'd spent most of his time in an enormous library, endlessly absorbing the thick volumes of leather-bound books some sorcerers would have considered lost to time. No doubt this was the sort of spoils that Jason's "on again, off again" mentor DR. FATE had implied he'd find. Today however was the day they would all have to make a little face time. As today, they'd be formally put together as a team.

Jason looked around and only saw one other person on the roof-top. But it was a welcome sight. A beautiful young woman with long blonde hair and the kind of sun-dress to make a man look twice was sitting under the shade of the canopy. Not another soul in sight. He looked down at his watch - a leather timepiece that had cost a pretty penny (but nothing to his family's fortunes) and noted it wasn't too long until the first official "meeting" would take place.

I suppose there's no harm in making "friends" at this point. Jason thought to himself as he walked over to where the young woman was sitting. It wasn't far from the entrance, and he made his way over easily enough. He himself was wearing slacks and a suit coat, and the heat bore down on him from above. He was entirely overdressed, but Jason Blood was never under-dressed. The blonde was in one of the two chairs and was studying what looked like blueprints, but Jason couldn't make out what it was she was so intently studying. He hesitated before clearing his throat, and gestured to the small island beneath the cabana.

"I understand this is a Teen Team but is it too much for a guy to hope there's something behind this bar that doesn't come in a juice-box or some kind of small plastic barrel?" Jason asked the young woman, as he headed over to the bar's direction.

Titan Tower, San Francisco

The sun was bright as Roy stepped out into the sun on the rooftop, absorbing the rays. To say the vigilante looked homeless wouldn't be far off... at least he had gotten a clean shower and managed to wash his clothes a few times through over the past few days he had been at the Tower. Roy was wearing ripped up jeans and a grease-stained white tank top underneath a sleeveless red hoodie. His sunglasses reflected red, and his Justice League novelty baseball cap was on backwards (as always) to reveal a small tuft of red hair. The archer was carrying with him his utility toolset and a quiver of his arrows as he strolled up along the rooftop a moment, admiring the view and amenities. Sure beat living out of a van down by the river for the past few months.

Roy noticed the other two souls on the rooftop in a nearby cabana, and figured it was time he said hello. Roy wasn't exactly a fan of spending too much time by himself. It lead to a few poor decisions that he was still making up for. As the teen neared the Cabana, he rubbed the chip in his pocket for good luck. 286 days...

Roy, without any warning and by making practically no noise (thanks Ollie), plopped onto the couch and looked over at the other two teens. His eyes glanced over the blonde, raising an eyebrow in slight admiration. Blondes have never exactly been my type. From behind his shades Roy also caught a glimpse of the sharp-dressed man making his way to the bar. And a prep. Dick sure knew how to pick 'em. Roy stretched out his arms after dropping his belt and quiver next to the couch before finally addressing his two soon-to-be teammates. "Hey, if you could grab me one of those juices that comes in a plastic barrel, that would be great. I'm parched."

Titan Tower, San Francisco
Cabana

A new team. An initiative reborn.

Koriand’r smiled warmly as the thought entered her mind, standing at the edge of the pool area, her hands pressed against a nearby railing as she gazed into the skyline of the city of San Francisco.

The Tamaranean superheroine had lived on Earth for close to three-to-four years now and had become accustomed to it already. Sure, her homeworld was often on her mind and she did miss it but there was a certain comfortability that she had gathered amongst her friends and the people they vowed to protect. The one she had the closest bond with, Richard Grayson, had spoken about strengthening the Titans with a foray of new members and redefining the initiatives destiny as the Justice League crumbled before their very eyes. Kori was no doubt excited to meet and guide this new generation of heroes, though she still wasn’t quite sure how the logistics of such things were going to be done. Whilst the specifics were beyond her, Kori knew Kara and Dick had a plan to help lead the Titans going forward and she was hoping to hear more than what had already been discussed.

The beginning of something great was to come; something inspirational and pure. She could feel it in her bones.

She began to hear banter some distance behind her and her smile widened as a result. She thought about turning and going to speak with those that had arrived, but for a minute she wanted to get lost in San Francisco and its beauty. Kori thought it splendid even though to her it was perhaps a common and rustic thing. She pushed her hands against the railing, losing herself to her thoughts for a few more minutes.

Interacting With: @Inkarnate

There was something different about flying without the belt on. Courtney had grown so used to the weight she felt almost naked without it, even with two feet on solid ground. Seeing a hundred meters of straight emptiness below made her appreciate its absence all the more.

Be cool Whitmore. What kind of hero gets sick from a bit of flying?
The skyline was decidedly easier to look at. Even Courtney could appreciate the strategic placement of the tower, but was more caught up in sunset and skyline than analyzing the street-layout. Besides, it was a night off. No personnel files to memorize, no pointless schoolwork, and no barely-older-than-her kid showing exactly how ineffective her wide-stance was. Not that she'd trade it for anything, even if they hadn't let her go on any real missions yet. Calculus maybe. She'd move back Nebraska if she knew it meant never having to see differentials again.

Voices from the roof caught her attention; she adjusted the staff more firmly underneath herself, and tried to loosen her grip enough so her knuckles wouldn't be quite so white when she rose into view of her teammates.

"Evening" She said with as much nonchalance as she could muster, and rolled backwards off her perch to hit the water with barely a splash. Once submerged, she allowed herself a spin and slight fist-pump in self-congratulation before surfacing to place the staff on the poolside, and stultified her expression as much as possible. The other side of the pool had three newcomers, the fact that one of them actually seemed to be studying told her enough. Courtney rolled her eyes and was about to dive under again when impossibly bright hair caught her eye.

"Care to join?" She flicked the stray droplets of water from her hand at Koriand’r's legs.

Garfield smiled as the elevator opened and sheer size of things to do up on the rooftop of the Titan's Tower. However, he faltered, wondering how people would think of his looks. He shook it off and stepped out of the elevator walking out towards the group of people. He was a wearing a black and white baseball T-shirt with jeans and sneakers that matched his clothes.

I can do this. I can become a hero.

The truth was, Gar was sort of scared. After the death of the famous Superman bit the dust, he wasn't sure if he'd even last a day. However, he couldn't live a normal life like... this. Garfield decided for the time that it was a better idea not to join the group. He looked near the railing, and saw a girl with tan skin and a very distinctive red hair color.

He bit his lip. "I guess it's better to make friends now then to wait!" He awkwardly smiled, and walked towards the railing to the distinctive looking girl, and decided to say hello.

"Uh, hey.. I'm Garfield. You?"

However, he then noticed the other girl who splashed into the water and flicked the water at the distinctive girl. Gar grinned at the sight, but then slowly backed away from either. It felt a bit too awkward to speak with anyone. He'd just hang in the corner, not get in anyone's way, and everything will be just great!

Right?

Kori couldn’t help but giggle at the sudden antics of the two in front of her.

As the green-skinned boy approached her, one of the newer recruits, a blonde with a staff, had taken the initiative to enter the pool in a way that Kori did not anticipate. This girl had certainly impressed her with her energetic personality, though she was concerned when she saw the boy that had approached the poolside retract away after being caught off-guard by the spectacle. Kori wondered why he could be nervous considering as a recruit he was equal to everyone here – he was a Titan just the same as anyone else. For the moment she decided to respond to the girl’s inquiry if they would like to join her within the pool, but Kori was a little more concerned about how the green-skinned boy felt first.

“I’m not sure if we should. Not yet, anyway.”

As Kori responded to the blonde girl she averted her eyes back to the boy that had identified himself as ‘Garfield’.

“Sorry about that. You said it was Garfield, right? I’m Kori. I’d like to welcome you to the family we have here.”

Curtis Falconer was better know to the world as Aztek, a golden & white superhero who basically seemed to be effective at going round after round with edgier, more generally dangerous super-people, both heroes and villains. It had been a couple weeks since he'd been to the tower or spoken with most of the team, but his adventures in hometown Vanity City left him the slightest bit cynical. I swear to the Judeo-Christian God that if one of the new recruits has the words Blood, Death or Kill in their codename, we're going to have problems.

He struts up poolside in white and gold trunks, keeping with his usual color scheme. Beast Boy, by default of course, had done the same. While two girls, each with Star in their names, chatted poolside, Curt felt like making good use of the time, manufacturing memories he'd later cherish. One could say he had the spirit, but not the feeling . So he slumped into the water at the deep end before regulating himself to float. The water was cooler than anticipated.

"Hey Bee Bee! I bet I can hold my breath underwater longer than you can!"

Invitingly, he pulled his hand and forearm to his face, waving like he was frantically trying to kill a housefly. He wondered if there were mosquitos at this altitude. If nothing else, slaying the bloodsuckers like the foul demons they were would make a perfectly fine past time if nothing else come of this poolside business.

Garfield was surprised when the distinctive looking girl had replied back to him. He figured when he backed off, that would've been it. A pleasant surprise, he sort of shyly grinned. "Kori, that's a nice name." His grin grew more geniune once Kori had told him that she'd like to welcome him to the team. He scratched his short, ruffled green hair and glanced his emerald eyes around the roof of the Titans Tower.

"My alias is, uh, Beast Boy by the way." Garfield glanced away from Kori, thinking of that sounded nerdy as all hell. Who was he trying to impress anyways? Gar looked back at the girl.

"Family?" Garfield frowned, a bit surprised. What did she really mean by family? Was this team closer than he thought?

Kara needed a few silent moments. It was only a tick or two, but her blue eyes had gone distant as they fixated during the time. The moment her long black lashes snapped shut and open again with a blink her focus was on the young man standing before her. She hadn't caught all of what he said, but Sanctuary provided an automatic play-back. Oh. Kara almost laughed, but then she couldn't blame him his impulse. Kara certainly understood it. It was somewhere between a resort and a tactical command center, this building they found themselves in now. Where else would you want a drink? Especially with that sunset.

"Normally yes. Right now 'Alice' is restricting certain areas, in case something bad happens bringing in new people. Nevermind I'm new people. Let me override it for you."

The heat of the day had long gone, and by now the temperature of the air had dropped four degrees in the last hour alone. This was her second night at the Tower, and she had already learned how chilly it could get in San Francisco at night. And the fog was something else entirely. It was a strange place, but that was seeming common enough for Kara on this planet. The second male was heard the moment he stepped into the building. The Tower was mostly empty at the moment, and it wasn't all that difficult to track most movements. Not with her sight and hearing, anyway. Not that Kara's gaze ever broke with Jason, even as Roy hopped in. She never seemed to do anything, but it was already done. Sanctuary could read her mind if needed, it was kind of creepy, until Sanctuary was the only thing left to her.

"There you go. If you head back up the stairs, and circle back to the big outdoor kitchen? One of the mini fridges under one of the counters--filled with alcohol. Hope you're a fan of cerveza. I'm--" she paused, if only for a single beat, wondering what name would be the most efficient, "--Supergirl."

Jason Blood smiled when his compatriot pointed out the way to the hard alcohol. The real drinks. Over the woman’s shoulder he saw that several others were beginning to crowd the rooftop with them. One of them was a good looking man, with Red hair and an attitude that emanated cool. He had dark red shades on and a backwards cap. Jason Blood would have written him off as a brash loud annoying jock if he were more like old self. The Jason Blood from 6 months ago was already changing for the better - thanks in no small part to THE DEMON’S influence. These were his future teammates. He’d make an effort. At least for now.

“Well shades, you’ll have to make do for now. No grade school barrel drinks, but here-“ he tossed Roy a juice box that was in an iced cooler beneath the Bar. A bright red and yellow juice box with a lightning straw. The box was a Central City favorite: Speed Force Strawberry. They didn’t sell it in Gotham. Here was different.

Jason turned his attention back to the young woman he first laid eyes on. He nodded, letting her know he followed her directions. He was just turning to head down there when she introduced herself as “Supergirl.” He froze only momentarily. He wasn’t sure what to say. And so, almost under his breath, he said what he felt.

“I’m sorry for your loss.”

He turned, and made his way downstairs to the kitchen. It was beginning to get far too crowded up here for his tastes...

Roy caught the juice box out of the air at the last second, sighing as he looked at the cartoonish designs on the box. Who even liked the Flash? Whoopie, he can run really fast. Some people couldn't just get struck by lightning and get lame superpowers. Some people had to train for years to use an archaic weapon and deliver pop-culture riddled one-liners.

And then the bomb dropped. He turned his gaze towards the blonde who was trying to relax. He knew the sorrow of losing family, and his way of coping wasn't exactly something he could recommend. Besides, Roy was pretty sure alcohol or drugs would help a Kryptonian much. So Roy stared up at the ceiling as he loudly slurped up his juice for a couple seconds as the preppie went to go get himself some of the good shit. Roy had to break the tension.

"So is a cultural thing where you're from to have really lame superhero names, or was it just your family?"

Arsenal mentally face-palmed as soon as the words left his lips. Damn it Roy, just shut up for once. He silently tossed the now-empty juice box with precise aim towards a nearby trash-bin and reached towards his arrows and tools, his fingers immediately going to work. Roy laid on the couch sharpening an arrow in silence, trying to figure out how to dig himself out of this one. "Sorry, I tried lightening the mood, but... well, yeah." He trailed off as he absent-mindedly sharpened the arrow. Off to a great start, Harper. Way to piss off the family of a dead god.

Kori took the name to memory. Beast Boy. She admitted she was a little curious about the origin of the name, but decided it was in her best interests not to pry. The boy’s questioning tone about her usage was family was strange but after a good amount of years of living on Earth she had gotten used to “Terran” customs and mannerisms. In this case, Kori had a rough idea of Garfield’s anxieties; or she thought she did, at any rate. After all, she only had so much to go on without knowing them. The best thing she could do at the moment was to clarify and assure.

“Yes. We are a team, but we are much more. The purpose of the Titans goes beyond the public perception. We are comrades but we are also family. I'm sure you will see when the awkwardness passes.” Kori looked to the boy and then to the blonde in the water as she leaned back on the railing that overlooked the city, crossing her arms as she did so.

Garfield nodded, "I hope I do. I really don't get it." He sat down, looking around the rooftop of the tower. He then looked back at Kori, then back at the blonde girl in the pool. After a moment of sitting by himself, he scooted a bit closer to Kori. As she was, for now, the only person he's deemed frien it dly. Garfield's social anxiety was the hardest was when he was in a room with complete strangers. Admittedly, he still didn't think how Kori could think of non-family members as family.

However, like she said. He'd apparently get it once he gets to know everyone. "Do you, uh... Want to see something pretty cool?" Garfield asked Kori, looking up at her with half of a grin. Garfield was starting to get the hang of his abilities, and people usually wondered what was so beast like about a green kid. Garfield stared, waiting for her answer.

Kara tried not to laugh. The truth of it was that there was no humurous intent behind it. The two young men weren't, in so far as she could tell, trying to be funny. Blood in particular seemed rather uncomfortable and unprepared for the whole thing. Her cousin had been the world's greatest hero. Her cousin fought valiantly, and her cousin fought well. Her cousin still died. Kinda. Yet Kara could still so no reason to be so uncomfortable by the death or the act of grieving. Kara celebrated Kal-El. Stupid name and all, his life and achievements were as brief as they were extraordinary. Making it uncomfortable seemed the height of comedic irony to a Kryptonian girl.

Humans were weird. That thought alone had festered, as had a few other thoughts on humanity, since her arrival. Then Roy misstepped? At least he seemed to act like he had. The facepalm was dramatic and instant, and at least the sight of it made her pale pink glittered and glossed lips curve at the corner slowly turning into a smile. Especially given the truth of the name. One truth she was more than happy to share with this red themed human.

"Superman? It's not ours. That shield isn't an 'S'--it's a symbol. It's the sigil of House El, a very old Kryptonian bloodline, the one in which Superman belonged to and the one I belong to. My decision to go with Supergirl was convenience. Everyone on this planet knew what the sigil of House El meant to them. It meant Superman. Brand recognition like that it would've done more to confuse if I had called myself anything else. Nightwing? That's Kryptonian."

Then she muttered. Something about why an Earth hero would want a Kryptonian name and "hew-mans" being beyond her.

Roy gave a small nod. It was nice of the girl to give an explanation, given the vigilante had never exactly read up Superman. He had always assumed that the world's greatest hero was just bad with names. Batman, Green Arrow, Green Lantern... a lot of those names are kind of derivative. Roy shook his head and gave a small grin to the Kryptonian as he finished up the arrow, twirling it around in his fingers before stabbing it back into the quiver resting next to him. "I appreciate the whole 'brand recognition' thing, but you shouldn't be afraid to do your own thing. Me... I could be 'Red Arrow' or stick with 'Speedy,' but I'm not tied down by him. Hope is just part of being a hero. Some are just looking to do some good, and some others are just looking to cash in on that sweet, sweet merchandising."

Roy got up, grabbing his arrows and utility belt as he began to leave while chuckling at his own joke. The teens by the pool looked like they were having fun... and they seemed a little more his speed. He needed something to lighten him up, and a green kid looked like just the solution. Before walking out of the cabana, though, Roy stopped and looked towards Kara. "Name's Arsenal. Looking forward to fighting alongside you, Girl of Steel." And with that, Arsenal made his way towards the pool to see what it was those crazy kids were up to... and his eyes locked onto Starfire. He hesitated as his gaze shifted over her orange figure, one he remembered from his old days as a Titan. Last time they saw each other, Roy wasn't exactly in a good place. Granted, with his current outfit, he didn't look better.

The archer still drudged on towards the pool, not letting his shame get in the way of introducing himself to his new teammates.

Minutes later, Jason Blood was downstairs and back around to the outdoor kitchen. He had followed Supergirl's directions and now was taking stock of this new environment. He made his way to the island in the middle of the kitchen and felt the marble counter-top. It was warm to the touch from the sunlight. Jason liked being in the kitchen. When he was growing up, he spent some of his time there with his housekeeper, a gentle older woman who taught him the basics of cooking and food preparation. It enabled him to make his own meals since he was a boy. His parents went through a lot of housekeepers.

Beneath one of the counters here in the outside Kitchen was his prize. An assortment of bottles of various alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately, none of it was particularly to his tastes. He was a red wine man, like his parents. One of the many traits he'd picked up from being a Blood. Still, he grabbed a six pack of what looked like some sort of summer beer, and a handful of limes. Stopping back at the island, he pulled a small knife from inside one of the drawers. He'd be able to slice the small green fruits with ease.

Before heading back up to the rest of his new housemates, Jason approached the heavy glass railing of the outdoor patio kitchen. He was a few stories up, and below he could hear the blaring horns of California traffic. Jason was from the East Coast, he didn't know how he would fit into this new environment. It was already far too bright. The DEMON however didn't seem to mind either way. He was used to the heat. Undoubtedly the hellfire of the dimension Etrigan had come from made the California heat seem like a cool breeze. How would Jason be accepted among his new peers? He was sharing living space with a Kryptonian. And undoubtedly other heroes who were trained into this type of work. But what training did Jason Blood have? None.

He was merely a vessel for Etrigan. A super powered demon who dedicates himself to justice, but can turn on a whim. An unpredictable wild-card. Dr. Fate had taught Jason more about the Demon's history, and it was his influence that enabled Jason to gain a home here at Titan Tower. But he wasn't a hero. He was a monster.

Looking out at the sea of traffic below him and the other sky-scrapers that surrounded him, Jason Blood took out a cigarette and lit it with a small book of matches. He hated smoking. But THE DEMON enjoyed the smell and taste. As the bottles of beer began to sweat on the counter-top, Jason Blood reached out over the railing, and wondered if this new version of himself really belonged anywhere...

Garfield looked up to see a red haired guy in shades, who had a quiver on his back. Most likely on archer. Garfield stood up reluctantly, not sure whether to talk to the guy or just act like he didn't notice the redhead come any closer. Garfield then looked back at him, and regained his composure. He gave a friendly smile. "Hi, I'm Garfie-... Err, Beast Boy." Garfield could already imagine the questions the crimson archer would be asking him. The archer also seemed a bit surprised about the distinctive looking Kori with her unnatural colored skin, hair, and eyes. Now thinking about, Garfield felt a bit better to know he wasn't the only unusual looking one who was going to be on this team of Titans.

He started to wonder if the archer had any superpowers or not. Then again, it didn't take superpowers to become a superhero. Batman and Nightwing proved that. Garfield assumed the possibility that the crimson archer, was probably like them as well. Garfield took a moment to think of a nice way of asking who the archer was. He still wasn't use to being around much people, much less conversing. However, if he was going to be on a team, he needed to realize how to actually be social.

I can't be the only one having a hard time wit this..

He straightened out his little red and white uniform he had constructed for himself, and nodded towards the archer with another smile. "And you are?" Garfield politely asked. Pleased with himself for not being such a awkward, green goofball for once.

Garfield was starting to get the hang of this. Maybe coming here wasn't such a bad idea after all.

Roy looked between the green boy, Starfire, and the blonde in the pool for a moment, his eyebrows raised behind his red shades. He was used to some weird shit. Hell, the guy who took him to rehab was a talking crocodile. But being surrounded by so many powered people at once was a little overwhelming. That, and being close to the alien he once called a friend was keeping the archer on edge. An edge that alcohol used to ease...

Roy shook his head for a moment, his lips curling into a shit-eating grin. "If we're using our fake names, then I'm Arsenal. But if we're on a team... call me Roy." He dropped the quiver and belt on the ground as he sat next to the pool, kicking off his worn-out red running shoes and removing his socks. He pulled out a small chip from his pocket, a little golden coin with a "10" sharply imprinted onto the front, and flicked it into the air before catching it and placing it in the quiver.

"What brought you here, Beast Boy? Trying to save people? Control your powers? Glory?" While dipping his feet into the water, the archer looked out past the pool... past the others. He watched the horizon, the warm glow of orange cresting along the city's skyline. He felt at home, up on a roof in a city teeming with criminals. And yet his mind was wondering back ten months... longer even. Back to the night he was forced to change...

Cut the melodrama, Roy. Enjoy yourself for once damn it. The archer sighed as he continued watching the horizon, smiling slightly as he listened to everything going on around him. He couldn't space out now. There were certainly more jokes to be made in this company.
