After a little over a year of plotting and planning, the wedding celebration of Nicole Seara and Darien Monterrosa was only days away from being a reality. This was the only thought on the young woman’s mind as she went through the motions of the day: gathering the last of her items onto her luggage, arranging the care of her apartment for the time she’d be gone, summoning and getting into the limo, all the way down to the airport and the nearly six-hour flight to Las Vegas. No matter how hard she tried, the imposing imminence of her upcoming nuptials was eating her alive like a parasite.

The fact that she was even getting married was a miracle in itself, as pointed out by the many surprised and shocked replies she’d gotten back from those who knew her when the invitations had been received. Contrary to most girls, Cole had never even considered the idea of marriage. In her mind, what was the point of making a big deal of getting married using the excuse of “celebrating love” when the true intention was to impress people with how big and lush the wedding would be? If the two people were really in love, what would signing a stupid piece of paper and throwing a party really matter? Why bother tainting something beautiful with complicated legalities that could only serve to turn things bitter if they ever came to an end? To her, it was frankly a silly thing to do.

But, like many other things, Darien had been the one to change that mindset. The man she’d known since her childhood, and the one she’d fallen in love with nearly two years before, hand managed to turn the anti-wedding girl into an upcoming blushing bride. Darien Monterrosa was a dream of a man: smart, caring, handsome, with a well-off family and a heart of gold… Not to mention her parents absolutely adored him! She’d be a fool to turn him down, and the luckiest woman in the world to accept him. This was why, the moment he got down on one knee and proposed to her in front of close friends and family, Cole hadn’t thought about it twice before crying out a very loud YES!

She was excited to get married, of course. Her love for Darien was ever-present and ever-growing, because why else would she had agreed to get engaged to such a cupcake if she didn’t love him? Yet with every day that went by, the levels of Cole’s nervousness were raised just a tad more, pushing the limits of the woman’s sanity. Her close friends had been nothing short of incredibly supportive, constantly expressing their comfort and reassuring her that it was completely normal for the bride to start feeling “pre-wedding jitters” -as they called it- on the days before the wedding. Unfortunately, words were not enough to soothe this particular bride, who instead had fallen back on her old habit of smoking weed behind Darien’s back to control these unwelcome “jitters”. The pot did its job and took the edge off, making her all the more mellow and chill about the whole affair. But as soon as she was without it, the second thoughts began to creep in, and doubt began to cloud her already-foggy mind. At this point, Cole wanted nothing more than for the whole thing to be done and over with.

It was in this mindset of happiness, doubt and nervousness that Cole landed in the LAS airport that Wednesday before the wedding and was driven to the Seara Resort and Casino. The ride from the airport to the hotel, situated right at the heart of the famous Vegas Strip, had done her no favors, only serving to increase her anxiousness instead. Taking in a deep breath that seemed to suck in all the air of the limo, Cole exited the vehicle, made her way to her father’s hotel and straight for the room that would be her home for the next five days. Trying her hardest to ignore the slightly-shaking hands, she shot Darien and her wedding party invitees a text that she’d landed and the room she would be in so they could drop by to say hi. She needed a moment of privacy to compose and pull herself together before any of the guests -or worse, the groom- arrived. There was no way in hell she would let any of them see her in this state.

When she’d reached her room, she quickly opened the door to her room, slipped inside and quickly closed it. Sighing, Cole dropped her carry-on bag on the floor and made her way straight to the balcony, where she took a seat and began to look for something in her bag. Out she pulled a dainty navy blue glass pipe, a dime of weed and a fancy, rainbow-bejeweled Zippo lighter. Wasting no time, Cole quickly placed the weed on the pipe, flicked on the lighter, put the pipe up to her lips and lit up, taking puff after puff after puff. Soon enough, the delicious feel of the cannabis smoke began to fill up her lungs, offering her the comfort she so desperately needed. She closed her eyes, a stream of smoke coming out of her mouth as she let the THC do its magical work. Of course, deep down, Cole knew she would need more than a few puffs of Mary Jane to take this growing edge off.

Grace kept her eyes at the small alarm clock standing on her dresser, she had not been able to sleep for more than half an hour. Her night had been full of canceling and re-booking package deals for the upcoming trip since she would no longer be traveling with a partner. She turned over to lay on her back so she could stare up at her ceiling instead, a tired sigh escaping her lips. Truth be told she had just been dumped, even if she tried to convinced herself that the break was mutual when her boyfriend of 2 years had said he needed to go his own way and focus on himself a week before one of her best friends wedding. The first half of the week Grace had told herself that this would not define her was convinced that she would make it through without breaking down. However 2 days ago she found herself in a cubicle at the office sobbing on her break.

She hadn't told Darien or even Chris about the end of her relationship, she knows Chris would drop everything and come to her aid and give her that look of his... that look of care. She knew it came from love but Grace couldn't help but feel that there was some sort of pity behind it as well, and she just couldn't handle that right now. But she had to tell them soon because they'll notice her boyfriend not being at the wedding. But she didn't want to bother Darien so close to his big day either, and what would Nicole say about her soon to be husband having to worry about another woman's relationship problem. No, she would deal with this and get past it.

Finally the digital clock chimed and Grace sat up slowly, stretching her tired body trying to wake it up. She looked down at the packed bags at the foot of her bed and the travel outfit that laid on top of them, she grabbed them and headed in to her bathroom for a long shower. After about an hour she was ready to leave for the airport, grabbing her bags and ordering an uber that signified it was 8 minutes away. While waiting outside her upper west side apartment Grace took the time to check her e-mails to make sure that everything was set up for her time off.

While in the uber Grace stayed on her phone but this time she was deleting all the pictures of her ex. When she was done the only photos left were of George and Chris, looking up from her phone Grace expected to be almost there but instead she found she was stuck in traffic. She checked the time and saw that she was already running behind, “Just...great.” she grumbled and fell back in her seat and stared out at the cars crawling by. When the car finally arrived at the terminal she had to rush through check in and security, she made it to the gate just as they was announcing last call. She smiled and thanked the flight staff as she walked towards the plane. Almost everyone were already seated so finding her seat was easily done, and there she found her best friend Christopher having saved her the window seat.

“Hello my sweet boy, that was a struggle!” She greeted her best friend cupping his face and kissing him on the cheek. She put her bag up in the overhead compartment and stepped over Chris's legs to settle down in her seat. Grace turned to face him and sighed, “So..uhm... You know how Tristan was going to fly in on saturday?” She began, feeling her lip trembling and her eyes moisten, she steadied herself with a small sniff “Well... that's not happening anymore since he broke up with me. I just thought you ought to know.” She gave Chris a weak smile.
The flight passed by pretty quickly, mostly because Grace spent it with softly sobbing or sleeping leaned against Christopher. They spent the drive from the airport mostly in silence, which was probably him giving Grace some space, but she knows he was also trying to figure out how to make her feel better. Arriving at the Seara Luxury Resort was a relief, because this meant she was soon going to be able lock herself in her suite and contemplate her newly single status, the pair checked themselves in and parted ways as they went up to their separate rooms. When Grace entered the lush suit she had booked with her ex-boyfriend she flopped down on the bed and finally the tears rolled down her cheeks.

Las Vegas, Nevada.
The city was saturated in smoke and lights. His headlights, his cigarette.
The radio was going out on him again, the sound of Arcade Fire was fading into static and the car was filled with terrible silence. He hated silence, silence gave him time to think and if he was thinking then he had time to get angry about this all again. He punched the radio, cracked the glass on the front of it and it sputtered at him. He punched it again, it didn't seem to respond much after that. He heard his own frustrated exhale, smoke rose from between his lips and out of his nostrils. Perfect. Absolutely fucking perfect.

Four hours. He had been driving for four hours. Plane tickets were expensive, it was cheaper to drive. He had been listening to the same Arcade Fire album for four hours. The radio had been his only solace in this trip and now it was down for the count. He was frustrated, he wanted to punch it until it coughed up music again but now he was stuck in silence. The only sounds around him were the sounds of the road, and the sounds of the road just made him feel muted and miserable. Inhale smoke, exhale smoke. Drop the ash into the styrofoam cup beside him.

The coffee in the cup holder beside him was cold and full of cigarette ash. He had taken two sips of that coffee before his stomach had become violently ill and he'd had to wretch up all of it's contents onto the side of the road. The cigarette clutched between his fingers was trembling, a thin tail of smoke was curling up towards the tattered ceiling of his car. He could see a steady trail of ants marching across his dashboard to a half eaten snack-cake from an hour ago.
He was a wreck.

He dropped his cigarette into the cold coffee, let it sizzle out there and he fumbled for another one. He stuffed the next cigarette between his lips, brandished his lighter and lit the tip. He inhaled smoke, he exhaled smoke. There was a bad feeling settling over him again, he had been hoping to drown it out in cigarettes and music. There was no more music and he was running out of cigarettes.

Why was he coming here?
Simple answer, she had invited him. Complicated answer, he had some ridiculous hope that he could change the course of events as they happened. After draining a bottle of vodka the night before, he had come to the brilliant idea that he could win her back. It had seemed like a great plan at the time, now it was starting to seem like a split second decision made by alcohol. It was funny how that happened, it was funny how he thought he was responsible enough to make grown-up decisions when he was still doing shit like that.

Marriage.
It was a word that tasted like blood in his mouth, marriage didn't work. The pieces never fit together like they ought to. You couldn't just tie two people together forever and expect it to work, people had urges, people cheated, people- It was just so unexpected. She had always talked marriage with that same disdain that he did, she hadn't ever seemed like she'd wanted a husband. Maybe that meant something, maybe this invitation was her hint to him that it was only with him that she couldn't picture forever.

Maybe he was only coming here to drive himself insane. He didn't know any of these people, he had never met any of them. He knew their names and he knew little snippets of things that she had told him. He was a stranger amongst strangers, just Daphne's estranged college friend. They didn't know him, he didn't know them. That should have made him more hesitant. It should have put his nerves on end, it should have made this alcohol-fueled decision seem even crazier.
Luckily, Quinn was not a guy that was easily deterred.

Anyway, despite all his anger, despite all his misery, Daphne was home. Home, in the sense that wherever she was, that was home for him. He had watched her walk away once, he wasn't about to watch her walk away again, not without a fight. No, this time wasn't going to be that easy, this time he was going to convince her to stay. That was the plan, at least, he was still working out the kinks.

The rest of the drive was like that, nothing but silence and the turmoil of his own thoughts. A cigarette between his fingers, cold coffee swiring with ash, the rest of the ride was silent but Quinn's mind was very loud.


He could see the hotel as it came into view, as grand and as beautiful as he would expect of her. She had been born into money, she was used to fine things. He wasn't so used to fine things, the sight of it was a little bit intimidating to him. He took a moment to watch the people that were entering and exiting the hotel. He needed a moment to size them up, a moment to see what he was dealing with. The car was safe, he was anonymous in the car.

Once he stepped out of the car, he had to put on his game face. He fumbled a new cigarette out of his emptying case, placed it in his mouth and lit the end. He smoked like that for a good few minutes, just watching people as they passed. He had rode the last hour out in silence, he was content to spend a few more moments in that silence. People entered, people exited. Some watched him suspiciously, locked their cars up noticeably at the sight of him, others didn't even notice him. He liked the ones who didn't notice him.

He waited, he waited, he waited.
Finally, he drew himself up, dropped the cigarette into the cold coffee and opened the car door. He said a mute goodbye to the car that had been keeping him safe and he made his walk into the hotel. He checked in, didn't stick around to talk at the front desk, though he did crack a joke or two about the prices and then he walked to his room. It went like clock work, it went smooth.

He checked his pack of cigarettes, counted three and dismissed the frustrated urge to groan in the middle of the hotel hallway. He unlocked the bedroom door, he stepped inside and he counted his cigarettes again. He counted three. There were still three, that was still frustrating. He paced for a moment, checked his phone, ignored the urge to respond to Daphne. He paced again, he freed a new cigarette from the pack.

He walked out to the balcony, lit up and-
He saw her.
Beautiful, with dark hair and brown eyes. A face that he had remembered down to the curve of her nose. She looked the same, seeing her now was different than a photo or a memory. It twisted something inside of his chest, it made him remember why he'd come here all along. It made it hard to keep his mouth from curving into a smile.

Soundlessly, he raised his hand in greeting.

Andrea Jenine Banks had been looking forward to this day for nearly a full year and if you knew AJ Banks like most of her closest friends did (like Lia and Cole), then you knew that she had this entire week cleared off her schedule as soon as she knew the exact date. With how she reconnected with Nicole after a few years of sporadic conversations here there (mostly when they each had birthdays or their respective college graduations). She was forever thankful that life gave them a second chance to be in each other’s lives as they were back in their high school days - nay, even better than it was before.

To make it to her flight in time and to be able to have enough time to double check everything, AJ had to wake up bright and early. This wasn’t a problem for her since she always was up at the crack of dawn. Given her job working as a director’s assistant to an upcoming director that Steven Spielberg himself recommended AJ work for until she finishes her year stint with him, she was used to waking up even before the birds themselves were chirp-chirp-chirping away. Even before the clock’s big hand hit the six, she had already made her way out of her apartment with her luggage and carry-on bag in each hand. Within record time, she managed to get down the four flight of stairs without tumbling over all of the luggage she was bringing with her.

Like she usually does, AJ had the good fortune of getting through the front door of her apartment building just as her Uber pulled up. “Andrea Jeni-Jeniene Banks?”

AJ greeted her Uber driver with a big smile. “Just call me AJ. It’s a lot easier,” she giggled.

“Very well, AJ. Allow me!” the Uber said, offering to load up her luggage for her.

What a gentleman he is.

Typically, she was a front seat kind of gal but AJ really didn’t want to be rude, so she parked it in the backseat of her Uber’s 2017 Toyota Highlander. And as she took her seat behind the passenger seat (her preferred seat when sitting in the back seat row), she was absolutely amazed at how roomy it was. She didn’t have a car. Living in New York that wasn’t the suburbs made that completely useless. You could cover more ground by walking or riding a bike, so she didn’t know that these kinds of cars had so much room in the back. It was really amazing, honestly. She was mind blown.

Time would escape AJ’s attention as she, through no fault but her own habit of losing track of time when she’s neck-deep into something that has her complete attention. For this moment in particular, AJ was invested in a conversation via skype texting she was having with her brother, Cam. She was going on about how gracious and nice her Uber was and Cam constantly was teasing how she had a crush on him or something. Flushed with red, she spent the past hour assuring and then reassuring her big brother that it simply was not true. Yeah, just keep telling yourself that, Andi!

As she got out of the SUV, she thanked Hank, her uber driver, for driving her all the way to Queens so she could board her plane to Las Vegas. When she glanced at her phone, she realized that she had about an hour to find her terminal, get her ticket and everything else she needed out and ready. Giving Hank a hug, she smiled and waved as he drove off.

And within that hour, AJ got herself a little snack to tide her over for the next five or so hours, which if she did her math right, would put her in Las Vegas by noon, given that it was currently 7:05. Eventually, her flight was ready and she was the first in line. She would have to give her big sis Vio for gifting her with a first class ticket. Truthfully, AJ wasn’t like her mother or sister who fancied themselves the extravagant means of living. She was a simple girl with simple needs, so imagine her surprise when she was brought to her seat.

“Oh my god, is this really how Vio and mom enjoy their flights?!” The floored AJ was actually paralyzed by how stunning the decor was. The seats looked like clouds you just wanted to lay in and never get up from.

“Complimentary champagne, Miss Banks?”

She slowly nodded, taking the glass and, by association, her seat. AJ would get lost in the amazement of the sky and clouds and how all of this seemed so surreal. She half-knew what to expect. She had asked her family about the first class experience. Though they all seemed to have their own opinion about it, they all did agree that when you do experience it for the first time, there wasn’t anything quite like it. While she might not go, first class, every time she needed to take a plane somewhere, AJ’s eyes were wide open to the finer things in life.

But these comfortable chairs, though. Like, oh my god they were probably the best thing about the entire flight. As AJ came off the literal high of first class and the plane arrived at the Las Vegas International Airport, if there was one thing she’d take away from this entire experience, it was that there truly wasn’t anything like it.

AJ took a simple taxi ride from Las Vegas International to the hotel in which she’d be staying at for the duration of the week and the weekend. Along the way, she found the city of Las Vegas captivating. From a filmmaker’s perspective alone, each and every location from the good, the bad, the ugly - everything about it - told a story of people in suffering, a story about people drawn to their own vices, and the rich history that it held had her spinning in ways that she welcomed. As great and historic it all was, AJ found herself absolutely speechless by all of the famous hotels: the Pink Flamingo, Trump, and Hilton, the Bellagio, Caesar’s Palace. All of these hotel/casinos that made the strip so famous for both good and bad reasons. The greed and the money wasted; the shootings and violence. Everything intertwined in a circle of sin and death. It painted a flawed, broken picture that, with the right brush and colors, it would be revitalized with life and color and vibrancy of the old.

She felt her heart melting for this city and even more so when she saw the sight of Seara Hotel and Resort. This was her stop, it seemed. Paying attention to the meter, she saw she owed about fifty dollars. Just of the ride and the chance for her to experience the city at eye-level, AJ willingly gave the taxi driver a big tip. In addition to the owed-$50, she threw in an extra fifty that would serve as his tip.

“Have a nice day, Ms. Banks!”

“And you as well, Mr. Cab Driver!”

With the help of a bellhop taking her luggage, she walked alongside them to the front desk. Andi was greeted by the sight of an elder man of Hispanic ethnicity. He had a shaved head and smiled professionally at her. “Hello, may I help you?”

“Good afternoon, Mr...Lopez -- Mr. Lopez, good afternoon. I have a room, I believe.”

“Name?”

“Andrea Banks.”

“One moment,” he said, tapping away at his computer. After about a minute, he alerted AJ with an “A-ha!” He looked at AJ with a smile, “Miss Banks, age 25. Female. You are part of the collective room reservations made by one Nicole Seara.”

“Y-you’re kidding, right?”

The man shook his head, though it didn’t seem AJ was a believer. To prove it to her, he turned the computer screen so she could see it. “It says Reservation of 8 Sake Suites by Nicole Seara.”

Even though she clearly saw and read it, AJ was still in a state of shock. “She really is amazing!” AJ let out a squeal of delight, overcome with love for one of her closest friends. She was so thankful and grateful to have Cole for a friend. She would definitely hug that woman when she saw her.

She wouldn’t waste another second. With the help of the bellhop cart, AJ made her way into the elevator. Riding it until the designated floor, she dragged on the cart with her luggage to her room. As soon as it would open, she stood there in the doorway. Still. She wasn’t moving. Her eyes were wide with wonder and her mouth open as those eyes of hers saw the space in the room. How could Cole afford this? What--wait, Saera… “Of course!” For someone who prided herself in being alert and keen to the most obvious of things, AJ sure took a long time connecting the dots of the hotel with Cole’s surname. It was her family’s hotel. Even after she made that realization, it still didn’t help to quell her astonishment as she looked around. This room was far too big for just one person.

Breathe, Andrea. Just breathe. It’s going to be okay. Just...take a bath and relax. You deserve that much.

Say it to oneself and it shall happen. AJ rendered herself of all physical garments, ran her bath with warm water and bubbles, and she allowed the sounds of the city to fill her up with a gleeful euphoria as she sank into the soapy bubbles.

Letting a breath out, she murmured the following: “I wonder what everyone else is doing?”

Today was the day, an important day. Not his day, no, he was simply a very important bystander. It was his good friend Darien who took center stage today. Leo had to admit his friend looked absolutely dashing in that tuxedo, a groom no girl would be able to refuse. Daphne, the bride, had taken most of the spotlight, however. How long had it been since he had seen her, anyway? He could not remember. That wasn’t important right now.
What was important was that that everything was falling apart. The earth shook with violence, gouts with flame erupted from the earth and surrounded them all, swallowing the venue with the a gluttonous speed no fire should ever reach. There was panic and screams and destruction. Groomsmen and bridesmaids alike were swallowed by the ravaging chaos made flame. Leo ran to the exit of what could only be described as the wedding venue of hell. The heat scorched his back, burned away his shirt to a crisp, and just before his hand reached the door the flames caught his leg – quite literally, in fact, with a hand seemingly made of pure fire. He fell to the ground and the burning inferno loomed over him, forming a face. It was the face of – Finally his alarm clock decided to relieve him of this nightmare.

Just a dream, of course it was. After all, the grand event was still a few days away. The flight ticket lay next to his phone, which was still beeping in the most annoying fashion. He took the item from his desk, turned off the alarm and checked the time. Time to get ready, he had to get to Vegas today. Leo wondered if Christopher was already flying. He was going there with Grace, wasn’t he? How long had it been since he had seen Grace anyway?

Luckily Leo had a much shorter flight coming to him. The young entrepreneur had a comfortable stay in Austin for the last few days. Luckily he had been able to plan his business trip to his newest acquisition – another medical tech startup - just before his trip to Vegas itself.

A shower, dress-up and breakfast later Leo checked out and drove his rental car to the airport. From there it was just the same standard procedure. Handing in the keys, checking in, having your privates invaded by security and finally topping it off by waiting an hour for that goddamn plane. At least he was flying business class, what else? And he had to admit, these flights actually had fairly decent lunches, and halfway decent champagne.

Breathing Nevada air after a predictably uneventful flight, he got into an uber and was on his way to the resort. From what he had seen on their website, at least that looked to suit his tastes. He turned his phone on (something he had forgotten after he left the plane), intent on checking the site again, but instead he saw a dozen of missed calls. Leo Sighed.

”I had told you I was flying today.” Was the first thing he barked out when Adam, a business associate of his, picked up.
”Yes, Austin time, you idiot. Don’t tell me counting back two hours is too difficult for you.” He said with an irritated sigh. He didn’t have the patience for idiots today.
”Yes, of course I secured the deal. Their patent is ours now. So tell R&D to roll out the prototype. No delays, this time. They’ve had enough time while we dealt with the patents. No, he gets his vacation after we’re done with this. I discussed this with him already. Tell him the next time he tries this, he’s out on the streets. ” The uber driver did look somewhat uncomfortable hearing this conversation.
”No, Adam, we cannot cut him some slack. Every day without the product we’re losing opportunity costs. Millions, Adam. Tell the guy he gets a week extra after he’s done… if it works.” And with that he simply ended the call. There was indeed only one way about this, and it involved an iron fist.

At arrival the Uber driver looked overjoyed to quickly unload his suitcase and get the hell out of there. Leo wondered why. Regardless, he focussed his attention to the Seara resort. Yes, he could see this place definitely had class. He wondered if Darien’s wife-to-be had finally gained even a sliver of that.

Leo was going to do Darien a favour, and keep that opinion to himself.

Unlike his fellow guests, Christopher’s night was spent… doing nothing. There was nothing to pack in haste, nor was he feeling any travelling jitters as he had the best partner he could ask for travelling with him to Nevada the following day. He wondered whether he should send a message to Grace, to remind her to pack plenty of sunscreen for herself and her partner, but a quick look at the clock on the wall reminded him it was far too late for any friendly chat.

Then what can he do?

It was late enough that sleep was a viable option. But why couldn't he sleep? Well. Christopher was well aware why, and he almost wished that he'd left the packing till tonight so he would have more time to... not think. To hear Darien would be the first out of his admittedly too large circle of friends was not much of a surprise. Everybody knew that the gentle giant would find his perfect match first, but was he Daphne Seara's perfect match?

Christopher could not comment.

Sleep eluded him, much to his dismay. By the time Christopher had drunk his weight in coffee, it was time for him to take the cab to the airport. A quick scan of his mental checklist reminded him that he had everything he needed to avoid an unfortunate situation. With absolute certainty, Christopher climbed into his cab ride.

At the airport, Christopher quickly reminded himself of the plan. With Leonard out of town for his business venture, Christopher and Grace were left to travel together from JFK to McCarren airport this morning, with Grace's boyfriend, Tristan, joining the wedding party that following Saturday for the rehearsal dinner. Christopher first waited beside security, watching time and passengers pass by him but no sign of the one he wanted to see. With so little time left, Christopher had no choice but to follow the crowd through security. He kept his phone in hand, watching the pixels on the screen for any sign of a message but there was nothing from the girl in question. He didn't even see Grace even as he waited by the gate despite waiting a little longer and being one of the last to join the queue to board the flight.

He shot Grace another message, the final one before he was guilted into turning his cell off with a look from the stewardess. He tapped his foot against the floor, the pace growing faster as the minutes passed. Finally, once he was sure the final call was announced did he see Grace, much to his relief.

"You worried me!" The surgeon chastised, knowing that Grace was expecting such a reaction. "Was there a lot of traffic?" Grace looked too tired for her to be late because of her sleeping in, not to mention that it wasn't like Grace to sleep in so late. He adjusted his position so he could pull off his neck pillow, giving it to Grace instead as she began to tell him about Tristan.

The news made Chris want to hug the poor girl. No wonder she looked so weary. He had plenty of things to say: 'Tristan was a horrible person.' or, 'You deserve better' but none of them seemed to be right. Knowing her, she would rather be comforted than pitied. He extended his arm, allowing Grace to rest her head on his shoulder and quietly sob to herself. With the wedding incoming, Christopher knew that all the lovey-dovey behaviour from the bride and groom was sure to be a painful reminder of her break-up.

Arriving at the hotel, Christopher reluctantly let Grace trudge away into her room. The only good news was knowing that Grace's room was right across the hall. Inside his room, Christopher hung his blazers in the wardrobe and put away his toiletries before pulling out something from his bag, wrapped in gift wrap designed with puppy paw prints. He could only hope Grace would appreciate the gift at a time like this.

There was only one way to find out!

He knocked on Grace's door, checking the gift one more time before--

Oh no.

He forgot the bow.

With a glass of white wine in one hand and her cell phone in the other, Aulora Kelly sat cross-legged on the carpeted floor of her master bedroom. She sipped the sweet liquid from her wine glass as she stared blankly at the eight bridesmaid dresses that hung in the back of her closet. Each dress was a different color, length, and style; each one of them was worn in different weddings and receptions across the United states; and all of them were completely and utterly hideous. The young woman often wondered why some women picked out the ugliest dresses for their bridesmaids to wear; maybe it was done on purpose so that the bride would look better in comparison. Aulora also often found herself wondering why she had yet to dispose of these dresses. After all, it wasn't like they were ever going to see the light of day. She sighed and downed the rest of the wine in two large gulps when she realized that another dress would be added to her collection before the week was over.

"Well, at least the dress Nicole picked out for you guys isn't too bad," Cynthia Kelly's voice rang through the air, breaking the peaceful silence. "It's actually pretty cute. And don't you think it's a little early to be drinking? It's nearly five in the morning." Aulora simply shrugged and ignored her mother's comments as she reached for the bottle of Moscato that sat on her nightstand and poured herself another glass. As soon as she'd woken up from her usual post-work nap at one o'clock, Aulora had been wide awake and energized. She took the few hours that she had left, before it would be time for her to hop in a taxi and head to the airport, to finish packing anything she'd missed the first time around. Her suitcases were filled to capacity, as usual; everyone knew that Aulora wasn't one to pack lightly. Stunning pantsuits, dresses, skirts, blouses, and heels were neatly placed into her bags, ready to be shown off in Las Vegas.

"This is only my second glass, Ma," Lora said, taking one more sip before standing from her seat on the floor and sliding her feet into the sandals that lay next to her bed. Before her mother could say anything more, Aulora quickly told her that her taxi would arrive shortly and that she had to finish a bit of last minute packing. "I'll see you at the wedding, love you." She ended the call before her mother could get in another word. As soon as her mother's face had disappeared from her screen, Aulora tossed her phone onto her bed and continued shoving unnecessary, miscellaneous items into her bags. Within the next couple of hours, the young woman would find herself sitting comfortably in the first class section of an airplane.

The five hour flight from New York City to Las Vegas was a bit of a blur for Aulora Kelly; as soon as she realized that she'd be travelling in first class, she made sure to order the finest white wine the stewardess had to offer. She even got a snack to soak up all of the alcohol she'd consumed so that she wouldn't be totally fucked up when she arrived at her destination. Soon, Aulora Kelly was in the back of yet another taxi, slowly making her way to the Seara Resort.

"Holy shit, this is beautiful," Aulora spoke aloud as she peered out of the backseat window, her nose slightly pressed against the glass. Out of all of the weddings she has had the pleasure of being a part of, none of them had been held in Vegas. As the car made its way down the busy roads, Aulora gasped and let out several "oohs" and "ahs" of excitement and wonder as she took in her surroundings. She wasn't even angry that they'd been stuck in traffic; she was used to it after living in New York City, and it gave her even more time to sightsee. The taxi driver chuckled and shook his head at the woman who occupied his back seat. By the time the taxi had arrived at the resort, Aulora had a gallery full of pictures she'd taken on the journey. She'd even made a few mental notes of places she wanted to visit while she was there, a weed dispensary being at the top of her list.

With the help of the bellhop, Aulora carried her luggage to the front desk where she was greeted by a Hispanic, older man. After giving her name, the young woman watched as he typed away on his computer. Within a few seconds, he'd found what he was looking for and informed her of where she'd be staying for the next few days. "Reservation of 8 Sake Suites by Nicole Seara," the man read from the screen. After checking in, Aulora followed the bellhop to the elevator and checked her phone as they were lifted up to her floor. She must have been too busy snapping photos in the cab to notice that she'd received a message from Cole informing the wedding party that she'd arrived.

"Thanks a bunch," Lora said to the bellhop after he'd rolled the heavy cart into her suite, "I'll take it from here." She fished around her purse for a few moments before pulling out a wrinkled ten dollar bill and placing it into the young man's hand. As soon as the door had closed behind him, however, Aulora let out a quick, high-pitched squeal and began making her way around the lush suite. The first place she checked out was the master bedroom; without hesitation, the woman ran and jumped onto the large bed, landing face first on one of the pillows. Yeah, she was definitely going to enjoy these upcoming few days.

After laying in the same position for a few minutes, Aulora rolled over onto her back and pulled out her cell phone once more. She sent a quick text to Cole, letting her know that she had made it without any problems and that she was very much in love with the suite. She stared at the message for a brief moment, debating on whether or not she wanted to go and visit the bride-to-be in her own suite, but ultimately decided against it. She wanted to let her old friend have a few moments to herself; she was probably exhausted from her flight. Instead, Aulora hopped out of bed and made a beeline for the main living room. "Holy shit," Lora said for what seemed to be the hundredth time that day once she caught sight of the enormous television and pool table. The woman would go on to spend a considerable amount of her time playing a solo game of 8-ball.

"Thank you," Astrid said as she slipped out of her uber with the grace of a twig blowing in the wind. Stumbling to the trunk she tried her best to retrieve her bags that were placed there before the drive from the airport.

But the old diver had followed suit, thanking his passenger in return, as he slipped to his trunk and carried out her suitcase for her. "I can bring it inside for you too, if you'd like."

Astrid Nygaard was first cousins with Daphne Nicole Seara, the bride-to-be, who she had known her whole life. Not only were their mother's sisters, but they were best friends, which was how Nicole and Astrid were too, adopting the same kind of relationship with one another. Astrid had to admit that she was surprised when Nicole asked her to be a bridesmaid for her wedding. The sole reason for her shock and surprise was because Astrid always made the assumptions that her cousin wasn't the marrying and settling type from all of her adventures that she had done in their teen and college years.

"No, no! It's okay you don't have to." Astrid said, collecting herself and her baggage from the driver's hands. Waving him goodbye she made her way into the lobby of the hotel her uncle owned. To be honest, Astrid hadn't been to the casino since she was ten, more than a decade ago, so being in the lobby, even with the changes was extremely nostalgic. A bright smile filled her face as she finished making her way to the front desk. Flashing her pearly whites with a pep in her eyes, she went on, "Hi, I'm checking in for the party of Nicole Seara."

"One moment," the lady behind the desk said, typing away at the computer. "Name please?"

"Astrid Nygaard," she replied readjusting her glasses. "N-Y-G-A-A-R-D."

"Ah, yes!" The woman said with the light bulbs clicking in her head. "So most of your party have already checked in..." She scratched away at her keyboard before continuing, sliding over a small envelope across the counter. "Inside there is your key card and the information for your room. I hope you have a nice stay here with us." Flashing her own smile and friendly wink, she bowed as Astrid walked off.

Minutes later Astrid sipped her key into her door and wandered in to her room full of amazement. Cole had really outdone herself with this wedding extravaganza, even the rooms were amazing. Tugging her luggage through her room she felt all of her energy fly out of her body when she saw her bed. Dropping her case without any hesitation she jumped onto her bed with a big sigh.

"Wonder what the girls are up to?" Astrid wondered, not having seen her friends, who were the other bridesmaids, for a few weeks as their schedules hadn't aligned for awhile.

"Despacito--Quiero respirar tu cuello despacito. Deja que te diga cosas al oído. Para que te acuerdes si no estás conmigoooo~" He genuinely had no idea why people didn't like the song, but he sang it to himself nonetheless as he walked towards the taxi he had waiting for him. His driver eyed him curiously as he flashed a smile, though shrugged and began to drive him to the hotel. Leaning back in his seat, Darien found he couldn't quite wipe the smile off his face. But did he have to? Why wouldn't he be in a good mood? He was getting married to one of the most gorgeous girls to grace New York, someone whose family adored him, who he had been in love with for years. So yeah, he was in a fantastic mood. No, he was--what was better then fantastic?

Truthfully, Darien was on Cloud Nine and had a very difficult time coming down. Admittedly he really didn't find the wedding to be stressful, even though he did his part more than other grooms could say. Of course, he did his best not to step on his beautiful bride's toes, only really disagreeing with her on maybe one or two things, but hey, no one is perfect. So he often let it slide, content with having her in his arms and showering her with kisses to show how sorry he was for daring to go in a direction she didn't want. It was pretty easy to get back on her good side, though admittedly he knew what to say and do to get back into her good graces.

"Para que lo sepas, thanks man," He told the driver as they pulled up to that rather fancy looking hotel. This was it, right? Shit, it was a lot nicer than he thought. As he walked, his head kept turning this way and that, slightly confused. He could have sworn they agreed on another hotel, though rather than assume Nicole had changed her mind he actually thought he was in the wrong place. Going to the receptionist, he cleared his throat, catching her eye. She looked at him somewhat expectantly, and he recognized that tiny crush forming in her eyes. It wasn't that Darien didn't know he was good looking, it was more like he never got used to that reaction out of women he didn't know. "Hi, I'm checking in under Monterrosa," He said, grinning.

Not even fifteen minutes and the the marijuana dime nestled safely in the glass pipes was almost burnt to a crisp now, having proven to be no match against a stressed and anxious bride. She was feeling significantly more relaxed now, even if there was still some remaining nervousness about making sure her wedding party made it to the hotel okay. To further calm herself to optimal levels, Cole’s brown eyes had been exploring the bright, energetic scenes of the Vegas nightlife. She’d raised the pipe to her lips to take that one last, deep drag of pot when she heard the sound of a balcony door opening and closing to her left. Curious, she turned her head in that direction while still pulling from the pipe, expecting to see one of hers or Darien’s friends. Instead, waving at her with a smirk and a cigarette on his lips, she found herself looking straight at none other than...

Quinn

The sudden sight of him made her choke on the last puff taken from the very same pipe he’d given to her as a birthday gift five years previously. She began to cough, eyes watering and smoke coming out of her mouth and nostrils as she tried to expulse the smoke that had gone through the wrong conduct of her respiratory tract. Once she did, she was free to simply stop and stare in silent disbelief at the wild-haired young man in the balcony right next to hers.

During the four years of her college career, Cole had spent her life alongside the one and only Quinn Lloyd. The two had met at a frat party on the first week of their freshman year; and from the moment their eyes had met across the room, their connection had been instant. He’d wasted no time in seeking her out, easily getting the award of being the flirtiest guy she’d ever come across in her life. She’d loved it, though. Quinn had this dorky yet charming vibe about him: so different from the rest of the cocky, asshole beefcakes in attendance. She’d quickly been attracted not only to his personality, but to those wild dark curls, the sparkling green eyes, and the smile so bright it put the full moon of that night to shame. They’d danced and drank all night, eventually ending up between the sheets of his dorm in what Cole could only describe as one of the most magical nights of her life.

Apparently, that first encounter hadn’t been enough to satisfy them, because a week later came the long-awaited text inviting her to ‘come chill out at my dorm’. Even though Quinn had tried his best to act as if there was no ulterior motive for her visit, they both knew the real purpose behind it. He’d been gentleman enough to heavily flirt to assess her reactions to the developing situation, but one kiss from Cole was enough for him to know it was time to talk less and act more. And so, the second encounter was another mind-blowing success. Even if they didn’t know it at the time, there was an unspoken certainty between them that this would be just one of many more to come.

As time passed by, the hang-outs became more frequent and began to shift in tone. Soon enough they were spending less time in the bedroom and more time getting to know each other: going out on dates, studying together, or simply enjoying each other’s company. Though they’d never officially popped the question, they began to refer to each other using the words ‘boyfriend’ and girlfriend, and those who knew them quickly figured out that Q & C came as a package deal. The two love birds were so incredibly happy together, sharing and building memories, traveling the world, and simply growing up alongside each other. But just when they thought things couldn’t get any better, Cole tore everything to pieces when she decided to move back home.

The worst part? Even when she knew it in her heart without a single doubt, she’d never once told Quinn she loved him. It was her truth and it would haunt her forever.

Not everything was her fault, though. In Cole’s defense, Quinn had never said the “L” word to her either. He had also never shown any interest in her staying in Cali, opting instead to accept things without so much as an attempt to fight for her. Was that the attitude of a man in love? She sure as hell didn’t think so.

“Huh. So you actually made it, Alan,” Cole told managed to say out loud, eyes still wide with genuine shock. Her foggy mind was torn between feeling stunned at the realization that Quinn really was here at her wedding and the overwhelming amount of memories that flooded her as soon as she saw the face of the man she’d been so head over heels in love with.

After taking herself quite the refreshing bath and just catching about an hour or so of sleep (it was a long flight and car ride), AJ was basically up and at em'; and by that, it means she was out of her room, wanting to stretch her legs. and of course, as per the unintentional Banks way of wanting to look presentable, Andrea Jenine couldn't deny this to be true for even her. While everyone else might have gone for the more casual approach to relaxing, AJ was someone who marched to the beat of her own drum. While the others might opt for shorts or something like that, AJ walked out of her room with a sunflower-themed dress that was laced with designs of floral patterns. It was like something out of the 70s with how many colors were represented.

Her smile was wide when she walked out of her room and even wider when she happened to knock on the door of the groom. Something that had always escaped her was how little she knew of the man that was going to marry one of her closest friends. A man known to her only as Darien. Oh sure, they were friends on facebook and perhaps the two have exchanged a poking war here and there, but did she actually know Darien? At the bottom of her gut, she felt as if she betrayed herself if she didn't get to know this guy. It would not only be a crime if she didn't at least introduce herself to him personally. After all, they were likely to be in each other's lives. Her best friend was going to be wed to him in less than a week.

As she stood in front of his door, she hesitated from knocking on it. "Why am I not doing this already? Just go on and do it, Andrea! Do it!" She chanted to herself, giving herself some hypeman-esque confidence.

Well, here goes nothing.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

Three solid knocks were all that it took to announce oneself without barging into the room. AJ was one of those people who could wait for days and not lose her smile or feel as if she was being ignored. Someone like her always found reasons to smile. Okay, almost always. But still! She, in the moment she waited for him to answer, was happy. Her smile soon widened when she saw it open. And when it fully opened, she held her head high, back staight, and an eagerness to know her best friend's future husband.

"That was a nice end to our last poke war, wasn't it? Thought I had you for a moment."

Grace wiped her face with the back of her hand and sniffed, that’s enough of that she demanded of herself and sat up and looked herself in the mirror above the small table across from her bed. She bent over the edge of the bed and rummaged through one of her bags looking for her makeup bag, when she finally found it she sat down at the table to try to salvage what was going on with her face. In the end she decided to just take all of her makeup of, just as she was done she heard a soft knock on her door. Grace walked over and opened the door to find Chris stand there with a present wrapped in the cutest wrapping paper with small paw prints all over it, she was surprised that there wasn’t some kind of bow on top though, Chris always put bows on his presents.

“Oh Chriiiiiiis” Grace whined taking the present and setting it down before pulling her main boy in to great big hug “I love you.” she whispered in to his shoulder. She released him and gestured him to come in and closed the door behind him. Grace picked up the present and started to unwrap it and open the box, inside was 3 different scarfs for George the corgi to add to his collection. Grace looked up at her best friend tears welling up in her eyes again, she was quick to wipe them away. She was just so glad she had him in her life so the tears were more happy this time around “Thank you” she said softly.

As a way to celebrate the upcoming union, Chris had bought presents for everybody. Though he didn't know everybody in the wedding party, particularly from the bride's side, he still tried to make an effort. What kind of party would it be if someone was left out? Getting Grace's gift was the easiest of them all. Christopher knew how much she adored her little corgi, so the cute scarfs he found on Etsy would definitely be appreciated. After all, who can hate a dapper dog in a cute scarf?

Seeing Grace tear up after opening the gift made him want to hug her again. And, well, he did. He gave her a comforting hug, holding on until the tears stopped. “How are you feeling?” He asked her.

Grace sniffed once more “Oh you know I’m holding up, I guess I’ve been sensing it for a while but I thought the jerk would at least wait until after the wedding!” she tried to make the situation lighter with a small laugh. She laid her head down on Chris’s lap and peered up at him “How about you? Are you ok with all of this?” she asked.

Christopher clicked his tongue disapprovingly. From what he could recall, Tristan was always a selfish guy; never considering Grace's feelings because of his extreme ego. Even though he didn't want to see Grace hurt, Christopher was glad that he was gone. “This break up is Tristan's loss, not yours.” Despite sounding like a typical bestie from a teen rom-com, Grace would know he was speaking honestly.

When Grace shifted the conversation towards himself, Christopher sighed. He began playing with her hair, giving her a half-hearted head massage whilst she laid on his lap in a sorry attempt to distract himself. “I'm... dealing.” He returned with a vague answer.

Grace sighed and closed her eyes as Chris played with her hair, he was right as much as she was about being dumped she couldn't help but feel a little bit relieved of not having to deal with all the crap that came with dating someone like Tristan. As she laid there with Chris's hands doing their magic, she could feel the stress and tension ebbing away. This is what she had been needing, Grace scolded herself for not telling Chris about her break up straight from the beginning.

She opened her eyes to look at him again as he answered her question with a deflecting answer. Grace made a concerned face“Are you though? In a healthy way? Not like me...” she laughed again. Usually Grace was the one who had her boys in check but lately she had been swamped at work and can't even remember when they all had been together at their regular bar. Darien has been busy obviously but how long has it been since she saw Leo? And now with the break up she has not been as stable as she usually likes to be.

“I’ve had some time to think about it and… I cannot be the one to stop them from pursuing their happiness if it’s with each other.” It was a tough pill to swallow, but if you were truly in love you’d want to see them happy. “I’m Darien’s friend before anything else, I can’t ruin this wedding for him.” His response sounded strangely rehearsed, but as long as Grace could understand his feelings, it didn’t matter.

Grace nodded and bit her lip, his response echoing in her mind. She knew she should feel the same but something has been bugging her ever since Darien and Daphne got engaged a year ago.

Rather than dwelling on it, Christopher got an idea. “When we were checking in, I found that this hotel has an arcade. How about we cheer up with some games? I could text and see if Leo is up for some ass whooping.” He offered. Christopher entertained the idea of inviting Darien briefly, before ultimately deciding against it. If anybody asks, he could simply say that he didn’t want to remind Grace about her breakup.

Grace sat up and her whole face lit up when she heard games “Oh yes! I will whoop both your asses if they have DDR!” she ran her hands through her hair to tame it in to place. “Yeah call him over and we can leave after I fix myself up!” She chirped already in a better mood grabbing some fresh clothes and her makeup bag as she made her way into the bathroom.



Leo had only just made himself comfortable in his room, which he honestly found quite to his liking, when phone once again began to buzz. He dreaded the thought of even more work-related matters on his supposed holiday. However, he was pleasantly surprised by the text from his colleague that was on holiday as well. He grinned at the invitation to the arcade with Grace. Not only had he not seen Grace in a while, but he’d never pass up the chance to kick their butts. He texted back approvingly, and got ready to leave.

When Leo arrived, he was able to meet Grace and Christopher at the lobby by the entrance to the arcade. Christopher was the first to wave his colleague and study buddy over. He raised his voice so he could be heard over the excitable Vegas crowd heading into the adjacent casino, beckoning Leo to join them.

Grace spun around when she heard Chris greet their friend “Leo!” she exclaimed almost running towards the man, he was a sight for sore eyes and she hadn’t realized how much she had missed him. She flung her arms around him when she reached her friend “I’ve missed you so much!” she had to hold back so to not start crying again. She pulled away from him and started to straighten his shirt, a habit she had with all of them. She then punched him lightly on the arm “Thanks for calling and checking in… douche!” she smiled widely at her old friend.

Leo bore a wide grin as he found his two friends. He returned Chris’s greetings before finding himself in Grace’s arms. “It’s been a while, Grace. It’s good to see you!” He said back. He was calm and reserved, but that didn’t take away from the genuinity of the statement. He responded to her punch in kind by relentlessly ruffling her hair. “Same goes for you, dumbass! A thousand calls a day, and not one from you.” He smiled back.

She tried to dodge his hand as he ruffled her now pristinely styled hair but to no good “Hey! I’m not supposed to be the one who calls… I’m the girl! You should all be showering me with love!” she turned to face Christopher “Isn’t that right? You call me every day.” she reached out and pulled him closer with her arm around Chris’s waist.

Christopher snickered, allowing Grace to pull him in. “It helps if you call Leo yourself. Sometimes he forgets that his phone is good for not only receiving, but sending calls too.” He jested, before pushing Leo and Grace in the direction of the arcade. “Now come on, let's make Leo regret not calling you.”

“Don’t hate me because I’m popular!” Leo said to Chris in a mock sassy tune. Then he headed into the arcade at Chris’s wish. It had been some time since he had visited an arcade, but he was certain his skills wouldn’t fail him. “Time to beat some high scores, oh and your asses while I’m at it.” He challenged them, his confidence as present as ever. “Ladies first, Grace, pick your poison.”

The arcade was loud and crowded, just as Grace liked it. She stepped in front of the two boys and scoped out their choices. If Seara resort has done something right it was this arcade, they had just about everything from old to brand spanking new and imported from Japan. Gracie browsed the machine until she came to a halt in front of one particular machine. “So how about some classic Tekken 7? Anyone think they can beat my girl Ling Xiaoyu?” She wiggled her eyebrows at favorite boys.

Christopher was never the gaming type. He was part of the minority, growing up without a gaming console (or a sibling to play with) so reading became his passion. So when Grace suggested a two player fighting game, Christopher was certain that he was going to lose so... “I volunteer Leonard as my champion.” He pushed Leo closer, as if to further his point with a wicked grin.

Leonard shrugged as he was pushed forward. “Guess someone is afraid. Anyway, let me show you how it’s done.” He wore his signature cocky grin as he took his place next to Grace on the machine and casually picked his boy Steve.

She scoffed as Leo stepped up “Typical… Honestly so toxic!” Grace said sarcastically and grinned at him. It was a tough 5 rounds but in the end Grace had to accept defeat with two rounds to tree, she slammed her fist down on the machine as the final K.O flashed on the screen. With a sour look on her face she looked up at them “Whatever! I need a drink!” she snapped and started in the direction of the bar.

With Grace gone for a moment, Christopher resisted the urge to follow after to make sure she was okay. But just barely. Instead, he turned to Leonard. “I need to talk to you, but you gotta promise me it'll stay between us.” It was likely that Grace hadn't had to chance to tell Leonard yet about her break up, and the last thing she would need is for him to bring up Tristan after spending some time cheering her up.

“Grace isn't doing so well. Tristan broke up with her just before the trip.” He informed Leo in a hushed tone. “I'm trying to cheer her up but I'll need your help with that as well.” It was clear Christopher didn't want to linger around the Tekken machine for long, lest he risk losing Grace in the boisterous crowd hovering near the bar.

”Is that so?” Leo said in response. ”Can’t say I’m too sad about that. I didn’t like the guy anyway!” He said, knowing Grace wasn’t around to hear it. ”That said, I do feel for Grace. So let’s do a good job cheering her up, shall we?” He nodded, then dragged Christopher along towards Grace.

Grace tapped the bartop with her nails trying to get the attention of the bartender. When he finally finished with the guys the was in front of her she smiled and nodded at him. “Hey, can I have 3 IPA’s?” when she had gotten the beers Grace showed of her former waitressing skills by carrying the boys beers in one hand and drinking from her own glass as she walked over to the men approaching.

Christopher and Leonard soon met with Grace by a recently emptied table. Christopher quickly cleared the table of old rubbish before joining the duo. He wasn’t certain whether telling Leo Grace’s personal problems was the right thing to do, but he only meant well. And he was sure that Leo would want to know so he could help.

From a glance it didn't appear that Grace was suffering all that much with get break-up. But Leo had to wonder how much she was simply keeping herself strong to not ruin the mood. That sounded like Grace. Another part of him wondered if this was the beginning of her drinking her troubles away. That sounded less like her, right? Was that right?

Regardless, he accepted the drink gratefully and promised himself he'd keep an eye on her. He couldn't let Chris shoulder all of the burden, and the best thing they could do was make this one kick-ass trip.

“Las Vegas? Really?”

That had been Jonathan Górecka’s response when he received the invitation. The reason for such surprise wasn’t that Góre particularly thought Las Vegas was a bad place in general but rather that he thought Darien would’ve picked a different place than the city that was known for five-second weddings and next day annulments. A wedding in a more meaningful place made sense, but Góre wasn’t going to bring that up when he arrived. He may have been an asshole but he wasn’t without tact. He’d be a terrible lawyer if the opposite was true.

Góre had been living out of Los Angeles for several years now, so the close proximity to Vegas allowed him to coordinate, plan, and arrive in a timely fashion. He had no need for dealing with long flights or figure out the best route to the city like some of the other attendants of the wedding would and was probably one of the few people who had an extreme familiarity with the city. Not to say others hadn’t visited, but he definitely had a sort of home-field advantage. He couldn’t even count how many Vegas parties he had attended in the last year alone due to the business demands of his bosses and peers in the law firm he was attached to.

When he had arrived in Las Vegas he had settled his luggage in his room and made sure everything was set. He didn’t bother holding up in his room, though. If he was going to be in Vegas for a near week he was going to enjoy himself. The Hotel had a bar, restaurant, arcade; basically the whole “works”. He had little experience with it in comparison to the other hotels and casinos he had been to. He figured the best thing to do would grab a few drinks and see if he could catch sight of Darien or anyone else he could probably recognize. It was a sound enough plan, especially considering the first night at Vegas was likely just going to be a time for everyone to get comfortable with each other and probably just about nothing else. After all, the real “fun” wouldn’t begin until Thursday night.

As he took his seat at a table he wondered what exactly had gotten into Darien’s head. He figured he probably was hiding the whole concept that he was an anxious, nervous wreck very well – and he knew damn well that while a smaller more intimate wedding was more Darien’s speed, he definitely wasn’t one for the glitz and bombast of Vegas. As far as Góre could tell, the idea of Vegas was most probably not Darien’s idea. Not that anything could be changed at this point. A year of planning had gone by in what seemed like an instant and here Darien was surrounded by some of his closest friends, even if some of them had a bit trouble with grasping the idea of keeping up with people who were half a continent away. Despite that lack of competence with keeping in touch Darien had trusted Góre with a lot. He was still second-guessing himself. But Darien was a very hard person to tell ‘no’ to. Not that he was intimidating, but rather the opposite. All of that aside, at the very least it was a weekend Góre could use as a “vacation” away from his job. And that was something he needed, even with everything Darien needed him to do.

He took a light breath, smiled, and raised the glass in front of him and took a drink. It was going to be an interesting weekend.

Throwing himself onto his bed, Darien let out a low groan. The softness of the bed felt good on his sore back, and he shuffled slightly to make himself more comfortable. He probably should have let Nicole know he had arrived--well, he had just sent her a text, but he usually preferred to call. But damn was the bed comfortable as fuck. No one would mind if he caught a few z's before entering the chaos that was his wedding weekend, right? Just as he was about to doze off, there was a knock at his door. Darien propped himself on his elbows, throwing his head back. Of course. Reminding himself that whoever was on the other side was not to be blamed for his exhaustion, he hopped out of bed, stretching his arms above his head. Opening the door, his height led him to stare at the wall for a second before looking down at...

Shit, what was her name, again?

Honestly, the fact that he didn't know the entirety of Nicole's bridesmaid party only bothered him a little. Sure, the positions should have been left for close family and friends, but his beautiful bride to be had insisted. And who was he to say no to her? Except, he had actually wanted to avoid situations like this. Wait, no, she definitely looked familiar. Her bright smile and mention of pokes brought to mind Facebook. They were Facebook friends, but Darien had been in quite a few poke wars, so it was hard to pinpoint her name. Still, standing in silence was not going to do him any favors, so instead Darien threw on a smile, taking a guess and praying to God it was the one he thought she was.

"Hey! I'm really glad you could make it, Angela!" He greeted her warmly, perfectly masking the absolute panic he had.

Somehow Astrid had convinced herself to wander around the hotel. Like most hotels in Las Vegas the Seara had a lot more to offer, with clothing boutiques, gift shops, arcades, things for people of all ages and interests, so Astrid was going to pass some time and do just that.

"Maybe I should grab a bite or a drink," she said, still attempting to convince herself to do something proactive while she still had the time to do it. She was in Las Vegas, but like always she would rather just spend the time sitting in her room enjoying the lights and glamour for afar. "I mean, I should."

Within ten minutes she was out her door, strutting down the hallways, through the mirrored doors of the elevator, and in the lobby looking at the entrance to the mall that the Seara provided. People rushed by minding their own business with Astrid noticing she would have to do the same, of course she wasn't one to throw her neck out there for the sake of it, so she kept her head down as she weaved her way through the crowds, stopping at store after store, window shopping to see if anything of interest would pop up.

"Wow, that's beautiful." Astrid cooed as she tapped at the glass of a jewelry store, a set of diamond earrings catching her eye. A smile appeared across her face as she continued on her trek through the mall of the resort, peeking at her phone for possible messages from the wedding party.

Crashing.
If there was anything in this world that Quinn knew, it was the feeling of a crash. It was the feeling of burning right before the fall, the ups and the downs of truly enjoying something.

Cole had been a high, one that he hadn't bargained for but one that he'd experienced nonetheless. He hadn't expected everything that came with that one night, she had been a conquest. She had been something to win, something he’d wanted because nobody else had her and that was the first error. Maybe he’d been hungover and stupid that next day, his head had been aching and the world had been bleary but he couldn't stop thinking about her.

He couldn't focus, he couldn't stop wondering what would happen if he saw her again. She had been something out of a dream to his drunken mind, her dark hair framing a face that he couldn't stop thinking of and how they'd connected. Like puzzle pieces, like missing a part of himself that he hadn't even been aware of. He couldn't forget her, he didn't even try.

Fixation.
That was the problem with Quinn, he fixated, he became obsessed with things. One night always became three more, one cigarette became an addiction and suddenly he couldn't stop thinking of excuses to see her. Maybe it was wrong of him to think of her like an addiction, maybe it was wrong to compare her to cigarettes and alcohol, a vice that he couldn't get away from.

Maybe it was wrong but Quinn knew crashes and he had crashed hard when she had left. It had been that moment of indecision, that breath where he couldn't bring himself to say “No, don't go” where he had started to feel the crash settling in. It had been that look in her eyes when he didn't ask her to stay, it had been everything.

It had been an entire pack of cigarettes smoked in his car while he recklessly drove in circles around the block, it had been a bottle of whiskey drained while he sat on the floor of his apartment and stared at the wall, these had been the symptoms of a crash and Quinn had never regretted anything more.

After she'd left, he'd started craving her, wanting her back. He'd started sending her drunken messages, things where he'd poured his heart out in hopes that she'd see him for the pathetic mess that he was without her, and nothing had worked. After awhile, the messages had stopped coming in so quick, she had stopped seeming to care so much. After awhile, she had a Darien. The name had left a very bitter taste in his mouth as soon as he had seen it, it had been like eating cigarette ash and it had made him want to vomit.

He had dated a few other people himself, of course, tried to smother the feelings that he had left to her in anyone that would give him the time of day. It hadn't been successful, it had made him feel worse on more than one occasion. She had done it though, she'd thoroughly replaced him.
He didn't know how to feel about that.

Staring at her now with his mouth curved into a smirk, he couldn't decide what he should say to her, he couldn't decide how to say it. He was angry, very deeply angry and he was hurt, very deeply hurt. She was here and she was beautiful and she wasn't here for him.I said-” the boy paused, taking a drag on his cigarette. “I said I'd RSVP, didn't I?

His tone remained neutral, impassive, things went easier when he didn't let feelings show through. Things went easier when he didn't show that he cared, they went easier when he didn't show how miserable that this all was making him. “I was invited, wasn't I? I mean, unless that was a joke, in which case,” a crease in his brow, his smile spreading wider into a grin. “You sure blew a lot of fucking money to get a room for that joke.

After spending what seemed like forever playing back to back games of solo 8-ball, Aulora Kelly finally grew tired of being cooped up in her hotel suite. After all, she was in Las Vegas; she should be out exploring and spending money on useless knick-knacks and souvenirs. She soon found herself checking her cell phone for what seemed like the hundredth time, scrolling through the group chat and wondering what the rest of the wedding party was up to. While she was very much looking forward to linking up with her girls as soon as possible, she didn’t want to bother them within their first few hours of arriving. “They’re probably still settling in,” Aulora said to herself as she set the billiard balls back in their respective spots at the center of the table, “I’ll just catch up with them later.” Instead, Aulora slid her feet back into her sandals, grabbed her purse from the bedroom, and headed back towards the resort lobby. “Maybe I’ll hit up that cute little weed shop,” the young woman mumbled to herself as she rode the elevator down to the main floor, “I can buy a few sweets for later.”

So that's what Aulora did. She called an Uber and took the quick, ten minute drive to the nearest dispensary. The young woman bought more than enough to share with her girls, of course, but also picked up a bit for her to enjoy alone later that night. In fact, when Aulora arrived back at the hotel, her initial plan was to make a beeline for her suite and spark up. This all changed, however, once she caught sight of the mall entrance. Without hesitation, Aulora quickly headed into the shopping mall, carefully weaving her way through the crowd. Her eyes instantly lit up as she spotted the multiple clothing and jewelry stores that were situated around the mall. "Jesus Christ, I'm gonna be broke as Hell after this trip," Aulora muttered under her breath before strutting into the closest boutique.

Soon, Aulora Kelly was making her way back towards the front of the mall, three shopping bags in one hand and a cup of cinnamon pretzel bites in the other. The young woman even pulled out her cell phone at one point, struggling to balance her cup of food in the same hand as she scrolled through the group chat once more. She immediately regretted this decision, however, when she suddenly collided with another body. Aulora's cell phone and pretzel bites went flying out of her hand, but thanks to her quick reflexes, she managed to save her phone just before it hit the ground. Her pretzels, however, did not share such luck; the last few bites came tumbling out of the cup and onto the floor. "Maybe next time you should fucking watch where you're-" Aulora stopped mid-sentence when she finally turned to face who she'd bumped into.

"Astrid?"
