Ok, so like we all have one of those places where we need to go to get away from the chaos of the world for awhile and allow the creativity to flow with greater ease.

For me, it's the bathtub, and besides loving baths since I was chibi, I've been known to sit there until the water is ice cold and my body is a prune for the sake of creativity.

So...Where is this place for you? Where do you normally go (or at least try to go) in order to crank out some really awesome story ideas?

I'm a spontaneous idea generator. While there's no real rhyme or reason to where I get my best ideas, consistent areas are usually either while I'm bored at work, or while I'm waiting for the water to heat up in the shower (usually after midnight lol)

At work. No family for constant interruptions and we have enough downtime where I can get everything I need to do and also goof off on RPG until they catch on and block it.

Even though I'm in my head all the time, I add music to set the mood and get juices flowing even more. It all depends on the mood, whether I'm thinking about pirates and listening to Alestorm (as shown above) or thinking about an apocalypse setting and listening to the Borderlands 1, 2, and PreSequel soundtrack or Disparition. Something about music gets ideas in my head. Sometimes I'll even play the same song over and over if the song feels right to write to.

For me either when I'm bored during work/errands (ideas always turn up when I have to be sneaking not to get caught haha)

OR if I find I'm struggling with inspiration for a post, I grab the playlist I've made for the character(s) that I'm playing as and I go for a run, by the time I get home I'm usually FULL of ideas and scenarios to jot down and form into a post :)

I specifically maintain an office away from the rest of the community that I use for writing. Not a terribly large room, but it is one that has limited lighting, dark, rich coloration, is on the cooler side and perhaps could be called akin to a very, very small library and or museum. I keep to myself as it is, but unless I am out and about from either of my quarters, it is known that I am not looking to be social. The other members do visit from time to time, but more often than not I am left to myself and the environment is generally quiet; the other animals do not venture up to it and are forbidden from it as it is.

On finer days I keep the window open and allow the natural ambiance to work for me, most preferably in the early morning as even a distant roadway sound becomes audible. If I am not opting to write anything I do keep something on in the background, usually something of my interests to study, but as it goes I need quiet and only natural interference to write. Otherwise it becomes a game of tuning the world out to focus on the writing and not attuning myself to even the sounds of the keystrokes. No less, writing with closed eyes functions far, far better for me and consistently allows me a higher quality of work; seeing what it is I write distracts and slows me. Usually my inspiration is just innate and nothing around me is permitted to be distracting or intrusive.

Failing this? I tend not to write at all unless business requires me to.

On the living room couch. If I wrote when I was alone and/or the kids weren't around I would never write. Learned to roll with it over the years.

I come up with some of my best ideas laying down and letting my thoughts overtake me. Sometimes it's outside or on my bed or on the couch. But its always in the same position wherever it is.

Wherever there's a keyboard and no sound. I cannot write if there's music playing or people talking, at all.

I tend to come up with most of my ideas during late night showers (i.e. around midnight), although I do my writing whenever. The one moment I can't write, however, is when there are people near me. I tried to write something on notebook paper while I was at a restaurant, and I struggled putting anything to paper and instead doodled some art, which is odd since my grandfather was there and he once roleplayed tabletop back then/is into fantasy and all that.

Where do I get creative? It's like lightning, it can really happen anywhere. Deployment was good for it because I was so isolated, and all I had was my imagination, and I was always seeing and experiencing something I had never seen or experienced before. Travel in general is good for it.

Writing specific? Reading a lot. Taking in a lot of content.

Where do I write? These days usually at my desk at home, but during the weekend if I get any Guild time I'm usually with the laptop at the kitchen table while cooking (or snacking).

At my desk with white noise playing over the speakers to drown out atmospheric noise.

I do not have a specific location in my house that generates most of my writing or ideas. Like Odin, as long as I have my laptop in front of me, it doesn't matter about the location. I tend to write better with some form of background noise. This can be the television playing in the background, some kind of ambient music playing, or whatever. I just need some kind of noise so I'm not typing in complete silence. That is simply something I cannot write in.

It's weird really for me because while I do MOST of my writing on the computer or mobile, I find myself writing on a notepad (like those 50cent composition books at Target), which I keep next to the tub or my bed. I actually do love handwriting since it's an almost "dying art" in a way, but mostly I do it because I'm outlining thoughts for a story/post, w/e.

Of course the drawbacks of writing on paper while bathing is an obvious one...

All the writing (as in putting words on the page) happens in my room, at my desk. However, the inspiration, world-building, decisions made about the narrative can come at any time. I might be reading a book, playing a game, having lunch or just being out and about, and something may hit me - either a product of what I'm doing, or the environment, or for no apparent reason at all.

I don't have a physical "writing sanctuary" as such, but I guess I could say I carry it with me - in my head.

The toilet. Nothing gets the creative juices flowing quite like dropping a big ol’ deuce.
