@vietmyke I mean, you already are fighting one of them (feel free to expand on the actual battle in your reply. I tried to keep it as vague as possible). Whether you kill them or not is up to you. :)

@OppositionJ Amazing! Thanks so much for the mini collab! Sorry for having poor Terviclops' horn cut off. I'm sure it'll grow back. Hopefully.

@vietmyke Okay so, just to save time, I'm going to send you a prompt to be included in Galahad's response.

Also, just a bit of info. You guys are preeetty far away from where the naval battle is taking place. The only ship available to you is the small transport craft, which you can get to pretty quickly. Heading towards the battle would be possible but that might not be the best idea, thinking from a strategic standpoint. ;p

Okay! I am back into the routine. Also, I built a PC this weekend, so... I'm discovering the wonderfully satisfying sound of my mechanical keyboard and I'm excited to post when my turn is up! I think I'll attach Viveca's spying onto the beginning of my post-prologue intro, as she won't be confronting anybody about it that night. :)

Asymmetry is cooler anyhow. And Oki! I'll be waiting! My computer is currently borked though, so responses may be slow.

@vietmyke No worries!

Soooo...

I think we should have a discussion on how cannons/explosions work in this world. The whole "no fire" thing is kind of making things like ballistics a bit wonky. Currently, I have it so that cannons blast like magical streams of ethereal energy, and when these hit a target, it kind of turns into this highly corrosive "magical napalm" that sort of melts/erodes whatever it touches. I've also made it so that Lanostran cannons fire rounds infused with red demonic ether.

Not sure what to call these "ether streams"/cannon rounds though, or whether the magical napalm thing is how it should work.

What do you guys think? I'm looking for ideas concerning the terminology of this stuff too.

@Lovejoy I think about this too much and come up with too few, inconsistent solutions to the issue. No fire... Means no combination. Ether makes heat, but what causes propulsion and launching if it's more powerful than simple mechanical creations?

What if we didn't have cannons and there was more of a railgun system? Ether and magnetics wouldn't be affected by a lack of fire, so in order to work around a lack of fire in this world, they would have progressed around it, producing technology both far, far ahead of their own time as well as remaining shockingly primitive.

@Lovejoy I mean changing state can still be forceful even without fire. I'd assumed it was some sort of chemical or etheric reaction that produced a minor explosion via pressure, and not worried about it much beyond that.

Sorry for the lack of updates! Been out of town, enjoying the summer and the woods. I'm back now though!

@Scout @shylarah

Yeah, I guess my query was more about like, how cannons would work irregardless of the fire thing. shy's idea about pressure creating combustion sounds cool, but I really like Scout's idea about the magical railgun. It's really creative and I think it could work.

@vietmyke

Will have that PM for you soon! Either tonight or tomorrow.

@shylarah @CollectorOfMyst

Myst, if you're having trouble with your post, you can wait for my update and maybe use that to give you some added inspiration. I'll be posting the next Omestris thing soon. So yeah, let me know if you'd rather wait.

@Lovejoy@CollectorOfMyst A reminder that they're just talking, so it doesn't have to be very long.

@Lovejoy@shylarah Well... I've got my words out. I'll make a few things clear;

One, Oren is still under the influence. His inhibitions are lowered, so he's very much 'out of character' for his normal self. I'm fairly certain he wouldn't normally do this. I also have yet to figure out if this is the first time he's been 'caught' in this state. There are definitely a few signs that Ziotea might pick up on.

Two, I know they're meant to just be talking, but I've got a lot of things I wanted Oren to say. Maybe it's poor judgement on my part, but frankly, I took so long I just wanted to get it all out. He just went on a whole tirade and didn't even give Ziotea a chance to speak.

Three, while I can't guarantee that other commitments won't interfere, I'm going to be upping my ante so as to avoid a repeat event.

@CollectorOfMyst @shylarah Beautiful post! Honestly, I think it works really well and makes sense for him to kind of unload at this point. This trip has been pretty stressful for the two of them and some manner of release was inevitable. Ziotea already let out some steam on Rose (and the room), so I think Oren can be forgiven for going on a mini-tirade.

Now, while I love the idea of Oren suggesting an investigation into everything they've encountered so far, there is a bit of a conundrum here that might require you to edit a few things in the post. It's a tiny thing, but Rodion is already in Cero at this point, so he and Ziotea investigating the archives isn't possible. Also, there isn't much time for them to do much of an investigation once they arrive back in Magnagrad, since they are due to arrive in Cero with the rest of the warband in a few days' time. Now, this doesn't mean that some kind of investigation still can't take place. Only, it won't take place at the Seminary, but instead on the Karamzina.

For the sake of streamlining things, I'll let you in on something that Oren and Vivica @Scout would probably be aware of. The Karamzina was originally meant for Mother Indira. It was supposed to be the vessel that would take her on her post-invasion scientific expeditions into El, but she was forced to embark on another ark when she was called to fight along with everyone else. To remind you, the Church wanted a powerful summoner on the warfront and Father Dara was supposed to take this role, but since he absconded from the Seminary, the task fell to her instead. Thus, the Church gave the Karamzina to Warband Phoenix for their support mission. Oren would most likely be aware of this fact, and would wonder if perhaps Mother Indira left any clues on it.

I know it sounds kinda out of nowhere, but I think it's a decent way of fixing the time issue. Let me know what you think!

@Lovejoy Give me like... 24 hours to edit that in. Not seriously, but I am like, uber tired right now. That all sounds good though, yeah. He'll probably still try to sneak into her rooms or something, but other than that - it all sounds good.
