@Lucius Cypher So... Since I'm not sure what you'll want me to roll. Shem would like to try and draw a more detailed map of the way leading to the cedar forest with land-markers and such as well as once she gets inside the forest she'd like to map out the route to the iron sand deposits. She'll be stopping three to four times to update the map, looking carefully about for suitable land-markers.

Also while in the forest she'll be constantly on guard for anything that might want to do her harm.

She would also like to mark big and old enough trees with the chalk she bought at equal intervals until she reaches the first deposit and keep marking trees until she's gathered five bags of the iron sand for Bookie.

Basically I want to do a sort of marking system to facilitate the passage through the forest for later use. Mark out the path.

And finally look for Bertham's herb.

Phew, that's gotta be a lot of rolls... prolly

Aight so just like with Zeroth who wanted to track and remained alert/hiding from enemies, you’ll can do that but you will be going at a slower pace, meaning that it’ll take you longer to complete your tasks which means a higher chance of running into something in the forest. Of course even if you go more quickly that just means you’ll run into less things, but they might get the jump on you. Your choice.

In any case in order to start getting a better idea of your surroundings and marking them as you go, I’ll need a survival check. As for being on guard and alert, I’ll need either a perception check or you can just use your passive perception (that’s 10+Wisdom+Proficency if you’re profiecnt with perception). Do note that if you roll you must stick with the result even if you roll lower than your passive perception.

And finally, to actually find those iron sand diposites, you’ll need to do either a survival or a nature check. It’s a survival instead of a perception since you have no frame of reference for what exactly Ironsand looks like, since it’s not immediately obvious, though once you find what you think ought to be the right thing you can then use perception checks. The same thing will apply for the herbs.

Now I should reliterate that trying to do all three things by yourself will severely cut down how quickly you can do all of this. Just tracking your progress alone will cut your travel speed by half if you’re trying to be even halfway accurate using an inaccurate map, then it’ll cut t down even further since you’ll be cautiously approaching things in the forest whilst looking for danger, and finally you’ll have to spend even more time tracking and examining your surroundings for signs of ironsand.

All-in-all, you’ll be moving at about 1/10 of your normal speed while doing all the things you want to do. And that’s not including the time it’ll take for you to actually hike to the dry riverbed Bookie marked on the map, which is about an hours walk away if you went at normal speed.

@Lucius Cypher I was planning on making a trip out of this anyway, so slower pace all around it is. I'll go do those rolls for you.

So...

1.Survival check for the map.
Well... One iota better with a 4+2 for a total of a useless 6

2.Survival check to find iron sand deposits.
It's a slow progression, this time with a total of 11

3. Do I get advantage on the one for the herbs as Bertham showed me a poster That is a frame of reference.
Well, even without the advantage it's the best roll so far with a solid 16 to find the herb.

4.And perception for things that go bump in the forest.
That nat1 T_T for the useless total of 4

Unfortunately since he only showed you a drawing and not like, an ecological diagram of the herb, no advantage. But you can still roll for it.

I can tell you right now you’re going to be in for a long trip.

@Black Keys

Actually yeah, you could be involved too. Ask Ihinka of course but I’ve got nothing against people working together.

Oh, yeah, I plan to help! Let me know if you need assistance with any of those rolls, and if Jarynth happens to have a better score at certain things, I'll be happy to take over on those departments, provided our GM allows so!

@Black Keys

Well if you want to travel with her, sure you can roll as well. Same thing as Shem’et; Survival, Perception, then a survival or nature,

@Black Keys Well, barring the fact that I'm Wil Wheaton in... well, I don't wear skirts, but... Yeah

Shem's Survival doesn't suck, but she's not proficient in it. And even if her perception is her second best skill... well, we saw how that one turned out

Maybe if Jarynth concentrates on finding the deposits and the herb, and Shem'et concentrates on doing the map and keeping things off our backs.

Not sure how that would translate into rolls and help on said rolls? @Lucius Cypher

Since you’ve already done a roll for each, Jarynth May as well do each roll for himself as well. Doing them seperately like that now would be pointless at best since that just means Jarynth won’t be able to do any better then what Shem’et did, though ultimately that’ll be Black key’s choice. Presumably you’re both traveling together so unless Jarynth intends to move ahead of Shem’et, doing less will simply allow him to cover more ground.

Alrighty! So it's two separate Survival/Nature rolls for the sand and the herbs? And are we able to use the 'Working Together' rule when performing any of these actions?

@Black Keys

Unfortunately no, as Shem’et rolls have already been decided, meaning that she had done her own searching/watching independently.

I think I'll have Jarynth stick to his Passive Perception of 13 since it seems more reliable!

So for mapping things out, I'm afraid we're lost ;;"
Survival: 4

As far as finding those resources go, though, we're in luck! Two pretty big Nature rolls!
Nature (Ironsand Deposits): 15
Nature (Herbs): 15

I think it was Survival to find the iron sand and herbs, since we don't know what they look like. And then go with nature to find more.

@Lucius Cypher Does the low roll on compiling the map mean we do it badly or just that it takes us suuuuuper long to do it

I won’t say, first you two should actually complete a post first. I’ll reveal the result of your rolls in my next master post.
