Good question. I thought this RP was dead in the water, so I haven't been putting much thought into it. I've never done a nation RP before, so I need to work out what sort of mechanics there will be. Does everyone want stats?
I should also do a role call to see who's all still interested. Haha. <Snipped quote by Willy Vereb>
I was going for a mid TfT start. After Arthas' exodus to Northrand, right before the Dreadlords ask Sylvanas to join them and Garithos is enslaved by Detheroc.
So it's roughly post Reign of Chaos. Given that alternate universe stuff and custom nations could be a thing I believe anything more specific is unnecessary for now.
As for what makes a nationgame here? You can have multiple kinds of approach but the most popular is the narrative based one with custom nations and nothing much else. So you have a map, rough setting outlines and then people liven it up with their own nation sheets. History and culture is generated through subtle cooperation between the players to establish the lore. GM needs very little to do in order to keep the game rolling. Overall such a game is quite freeform.
Of course this narrative based freeform style is far from your only approach but for now I only discuss this. Warcraft of course already has a fairly comprehensive lore which is both good and bad. Your setting is more solid but others might not like the restrictions. Another problem with canon Warcraft is the lack of stable nations that can be actually played as so custom factions should solve this.
As for what you might need for that? Not too much. Most people who participate have experience on how these games are typically run so most often you only need an OOC thread with the setting (latter is already done, post-RoC Warcraft), a map for people to mark their territory, time to write our sheets and then an opening post in the IC to kick things up. The rest in case of freeform NRPs is up on the players.

Slapped together a CS. I've never run a Nation RP before, so let me know if you feel like some importantt details are missing.
@ProductSeems okay, although I'd skip the color tags and the use of code format because it feels a bit jarring. Colors were always optional (but I always used them) and most people learned to quote posts to get the bbcode of the CS scheme so the code tags are unnecessary.
BTW, given your example does it mean we can invent new tribes that don't have anything sourcing back to the lore? I mean we'd still use the same species and such but seems we can do fundamental changes so long it doesn't severely impact the overall story? I have no opposition to either approach, just asking for confirmation.
Another note, for a while now it is preferred that nationgames (and probably most roleplays) have a Discord chat server to facilitate more interaction. This isn't neccessary and there is a minority of people who think Discord servers distract people from the roleplay but just something I forgot to mention.
@Willy VerebI believe picking a color is an important part of a Warcraft Rp. It pays homage to the RTS games, but if nobody want to do that we can opt out.
People are free to make custom tribes/clans/orders as long as they’re lore friendly. The Vilebranch tribe from my example is an actual tribe though :p
@ProductI meant as coloring your text in the NS. Picking a player color can be helpful, especially if you engage in map painting. BTW, there are better maps for Lordaeon we could use. For example this:
History Before the destruction of Dalaran, Chief Bark-Bark was before then a simply gnoll - hunting in the surrounding area and near Lake Lordamere. After the destruction of Dalaran, with his new mind - he rallied other gnolls like him and retreated to the Alterac Mountains.
Chiefdom The Glowbark Tribe has only recently formed, with much confusion, the current Chief has agreed - incase of his demise, that the choice be taken by the eldest and wisest gnolls in the tribe.
Capital City Ruins of Alterac City
Primary Race Gnolls
Recent History Before there was the Glowbark Tribe - they were simply another pack of gnolls roaming the rural and mountains areas around Dalaran. No more than a pest, and in some cases simply experiments for the local wizards and mages. When the undead attacked Dalaran, the gnolls didn't know any better. They would attack and be attacked, not knowing any better - being usually left to rot, by the humans or risen as another mindless ghoul for the undead.
Things changed, when the Scourge managed to summon Archimonde into the world. Once the Eredar destroyed Dalaran, the Legion unwittingly also aided the gnolls in the area. As Dalaran was destroyed, much of the magical energy was gone with it - either exploding or dissipating around the surrounding area, contaminating it. While in usual cases, it would lead to nothing but more dead - it had a different effect on a pack of gnolls.
Namely, their fur and bodies were covered in arcane dust - although instead of killing them, it improved upon them. Their intelligence increasing almost three times than before - while also 'glowing' due to the dust coating their fur for many months later. Although, their new intelligence lacked any reason and they didn't much change - being only much more lethal and efficient in their fighting ways. That was until, one Gnoll arrived.
The gnoll in question, spoke and thought. Despite being no stronger than any other gnoll, he had an innate ability to bark. Whether due to smarts, or due to dust itching up his mouth and nose - his bark, sounded much more scarier and tougher than any gnoll had ever heard. Chief 'Bark-Bark' as he was called soon got the gnolls thinking and turning their new minds from fighting to survival.
As it was - undead were scary, undead feasted on dead, undead killed strong mages, undead would soon come after gnolls - thus gnolls need to flee to safety. Thus, the Glowbark Tribe was born and led by Chief Bark-Bark evacuated into the Alterac Mountains. On the way, Chief Bark-Bark was visited by an Earth Elemental - despite being a mere stone, compared to true Elementals - the spirit took interested in the new gnoll leader. Thus, the Glowbark Tribe was granted their first step into shamanism - true shamanism at that.
Under Chief Bark-Bark, they settled into the Alterac Mountains - managing to rest away control from the Syndicate, their numbers having been devastated after the Scourge had passed through lands in their initial invasion of Dalaran. Despite this, their nature remained calm and collected - they weren't like other gnolls, they were smarter, more talkative and more hygienic even. They have even started using scavenged human weaponry as their own - so much so, are they different - that they see other gnolls as dumb and violent.
Entirely doable. Or you can have dwarves settling the recently depopulated lands in a semi-AU fashion. You can also be dwarves from Aerie Peak. There are numerous options for dwarves.
You can do wildhammer Dwarves in Aerie Peak, Hinterlands or Ironforge Dwarves in Dun Garok, Hillsbrad Foothills without breaking lore. If you're planning for an expedition it would probably make the most sense to go the Dun Garok route.
@ProductI have some interest. But is it fine if im not the greatest roleplayer. Usually i stick to freestyle but this seemed very interesting.
If you're not up to running an entire nation you could try playing a single character in someone's faction. Like a Hero unit from the RTS games, or stick to a smaller faction and make alliances.
History In the days prior to the fall of Lorderan, Micholi the Blessed was the unrecognized bastard of a noble who pulled some strings to get his offspring taken on by the Silver Hand in order to avoid scandal. After the Scourge invasion of Lorderan began proper with the betrayal of the Prince, Micholi joined with the surviving members of the Order of the Silver Hand to combat the undead hordes and try to retake their homeland (an organization that would rename itself the Scarlet Crusade in time).
Micholi was trusted with an armed task force to travel to Silverpine Forest and attempt to secure safe passage through the forest for living civilians who were trying to escape from the undead hordes of Lorderan (and to work as a supply line for supplies and aid coming from the south). This proved to be more challenging then expected as the undead were not the only monsters roaming the woods and preying on those trying to escape; Monstrous wolfmen soon started to be uncovered prowling the woods, attacking those trying to escape and turning them into new wolfmen if they managed to survive the encounter.
Finding this new threat to be just as dangerous as the Scourge, Micholi and his forces engaged the worgen as readily as the undead, fighting both to try and keep a safe path open for those who couldn't fight to flee. As time wore on, Micholi and his followers stopped getting reinforced from the rest of the Crusade in Lorderan and it forced Micholi to be less zealous and more pragmatic in the name of the greater good; Luring his two enemies to fight each other rather then risking his now limited forces.
It was after one of this pitched battles between the Worgen and the Scourge that some of Micholi's scouts noticed something; The Worgen who were slain in battle were staying dead. For whatever reason, the Scourge weren't willing or able to raise them into undeath... and this gave Micholi ideas.
Securing some of the blood of the worgen, Micholi began putting it through holy rituals performed by himself and other priests/paladins following him to try and purify it by infusing it with the light... and once it was done to an acceptable level, he risked his sanity and immortal soul to ingest the end result to see if this monstrous blight on the forest could be used for the greater good of all.
The end result was that Micholi transformed into a worgen... but unlike the feral beasts that they had been contending with, he had managed to retain his human intelligence; Granted it was clear that he was somewhat more wrathful then before, but his faith in the light and self control helped him to keep his temper.
After waiting several days to see if there were any unknown side effects, Micholi declared the experiment a success and offered it to his followers... but only those who he judged had proven themselves zealous and self controlling enough to control themselves and retain their sanity after the transformation.
Government Type The Siverpine Crusade is a military organization, with its leadership being made up of officers who have proven themselves fit and able to lead their men into battle. In the event of Micholi's death, the next officer of highest rank will take over.
Capital City The Silverpine Sepulcher, Silverpine Forest
Primary Race Largely human, but has started to allow those who are likely to survive the light blessed worgen ritual with their sanity intact to become worgen (and is open to other Alliance races that wish to join up).
Recent History Shortly after the Silver Hand regrouped to wage war against the undead, Micholi and a carefully selected vanguard were organized to enter the Silverpine Forest in order to try and secure a safe path in and out of Lorderan. The original plan was to make their way to the keep of Baron Silverlaine in the south of the forest in order to secure a safe place to rest and resupply (for both their task force and refugees fleeing south), but the discovery of the Worgen infestation that had overran the area had forced a change in plans.
Retreating back north, they task forced claimed the Siverpine Sepulcher to serve as a base of operations. The crypt was located in a central, easily fortified location that had some now farmland and mines nearby that could be used if secured; The choice of location also ensured that the undead and their necromancer masters wouldn't be able to get access to the graves to defile them, with some members in their off time tending to the graves and offering blesses to the departed to help keep up moral.
Shortly after moving into the Sepulcher to set up camp, the Silverpine Crusade launched an assault on Olsen's Farthing to the south of their position to drive out the undead there, intending to convert the abandoned farm into a local food source to prepare themselves for the war ahead.
Despite the hardships that they encountered, the Silverpine Crusade was somewhat successful in their original mission; They escorted several groups of refugees fleeing from Lorderan through the forest and into Hillsbrad. However, for reasons that aren't known to them messages from their parent organization in Lorderan have fallen silent and no new reinforcements have arrived from there in some time. They haven't had the manpower to spare to actually send someone to go and find out what the current situation of the main Crusade actually is.
Controlled Territory The Silverpine Sepulcher and Olsen's Farthing.
@ProductWhile i might be up to play a nation could you give me a sheet for heroes. And small factions. I dont know much about the OG warcraft games but i doe know quite a bit on world of warcraft.
Been keeping my eye on this for awhile, wasnt sure if I'm able to commit to a nation but I may be able to play a 'hero'. We okay to make custom heroes? Kinda like the idea of playing some kind of legion or scourge servant would prefer to be a worgen warlock but cant think of any particular reason worgens would even be sentient never mind using fel yet
I mean unless people have an issue with my guy having an arc outside his faction my guy could start off with you guys as a druid or something. Maybe a mage.
Ah right I see the problem here, I doubt fel and light blessed worgen would woork out well....or it could create and interesting situation where the champion starts losing his mind as he starts wielding fel power and has to seek out a replacement for the light. Hell maybe the Legion promises it to him in return for his continued service.
I'll back off for now and let other people develop their factions though, but if someone decides to play the Legion I think I could potentially make it work, assuming we assume the Light works in that way as opposed to the character instantly going back to his feral state the moment he uses fel.
