Dunno. Never been a fan of stats. Since eventually people go off their limits anyways.

Good question. I thought this RP was dead in the water, so I haven't been putting much thought into it. I've never done a nation RP before, so I need to work out what sort of mechanics there will be. Does everyone want stats?

I should also do a role call to see who's all still interested. Haha.
<Snipped quote by Willy Vereb>

I was going for a mid TfT start. After Arthas' exodus to Northrand, right before the Dreadlords ask Sylvanas to join them and Garithos is enslaved by Detheroc.
So it's roughly post Reign of Chaos. Given that alternate universe stuff and custom nations could be a thing I believe anything more specific is unnecessary for now.

As for what makes a nationgame here? You can have multiple kinds of approach but the most popular is the narrative based one with custom nations and nothing much else. So you have a map, rough setting outlines and then people liven it up with their own nation sheets. History and culture is generated through subtle cooperation between the players to establish the lore. GM needs very little to do in order to keep the game rolling. Overall such a game is quite freeform.

Of course this narrative based freeform style is far from your only approach but for now I only discuss this. Warcraft of course already has a fairly comprehensive lore which is both good and bad. Your setting is more solid but others might not like the restrictions. Another problem with canon Warcraft is the lack of stable nations that can be actually played as so custom factions should solve this.

As for what you might need for that? Not too much. Most people who participate have experience on how these games are typically run so most often you only need an OOC thread with the setting (latter is already done, post-RoC Warcraft), a map for people to mark their territory, time to write our sheets and then an opening post in the IC to kick things up. The rest in case of freeform NRPs is up on the players.

Slapped together a CS. I've never run a Nation RP before, so let me know if you feel like some importantt details are missing.

@ProductSeems okay, although I'd skip the color tags and the use of code format because it feels a bit jarring. Colors were always optional (but I always used them) and most people learned to quote posts to get the bbcode of the CS scheme so the code tags are unnecessary.

BTW, given your example does it mean we can invent new tribes that don't have anything sourcing back to the lore? I mean we'd still use the same species and such but seems we can do fundamental changes so long it doesn't severely impact the overall story? I have no opposition to either approach, just asking for confirmation.

Another note, for a while now it is preferred that nationgames (and probably most roleplays) have a Discord chat server to facilitate more interaction. This isn't neccessary and there is a minority of people who think Discord servers distract people from the roleplay but just something I forgot to mention.

@Willy VerebI believe picking a color is an important part of a Warcraft Rp. It pays homage to the RTS games, but if nobody want to do that we can opt out.

People are free to make custom tribes/clans/orders as long as they’re lore friendly. The Vilebranch tribe from my example is an actual tribe though :p

@ProductI meant as coloring your text in the NS. Picking a player color can be helpful, especially if you engage in map painting.
BTW, there are better maps for Lordaeon we could use.
For example this:

What of a Dwarf expedition
Entirely doable. Or you can have dwarves settling the recently depopulated lands in a semi-AU fashion.
You can also be dwarves from Aerie Peak.
There are numerous options for dwarves.

You can do wildhammer Dwarves in Aerie Peak, Hinterlands or Ironforge Dwarves in Dun Garok, Hillsbrad Foothills without breaking lore. If you're planning for an expedition it would probably make the most sense to go the Dun Garok route.

If you're not up to running an entire nation you could try playing a single character in someone's faction. Like a Hero unit from the RTS games, or stick to a smaller faction and make alliances.

Been keeping my eye on this for awhile, wasnt sure if I'm able to commit to a nation but I may be able to play a 'hero'. We okay to make custom heroes? Kinda like the idea of playing some kind of legion or scourge servant would prefer to be a worgen warlock but cant think of any particular reason worgens would even be sentient never mind using fel yet

I mean unless people have an issue with my guy having an arc outside his faction my guy could start off with you guys as a druid or something. Maybe a mage.

Ah right I see the problem here, I doubt fel and light blessed worgen would woork out well....or it could create and interesting situation where the champion starts losing his mind as he starts wielding fel power and has to seek out a replacement for the light. Hell maybe the Legion promises it to him in return for his continued service.

I'll back off for now and let other people develop their factions though, but if someone decides to play the Legion I think I could potentially make it work, assuming we assume the Light works in that way as opposed to the character instantly going back to his feral state the moment he uses fel.
