◦ Garlic
◦ Wooden Stakes, Decapitation, Total physical destruction: All of these will effectively kill Draven
◦ Religious Symbols
◦ Blood Deprivation: Vampires must constantly drink the blood of the living in order to remain not just youthful looking, but also ageless. If they do not feed on blood for a prolonged period, vampires start to diminish and then eventually die.
[ ◈ ] B I O G R A P H YDraven was born Daniel Stagnum and grew up in an impoverished family. His mother was no saint and his father made sure she knew it every night in fits of drunken rage. He resented his life at home and would often leave the house just to get away from it all. He was no star pupil in school and, instead, was more interested in honing his street smarts. As a young teenager, Daniel was introduced to small time drugs and, it wasn't long before he and his friends began selling it to other kids in the neighborhood and at school. It soon became a full time business and his associates became his new family as they watched eachother's backs against outside competition and tried to make a life for themselves, despite the delinquent means by which they were doing it.
When he reached his mid-20's around 1966, he and his associates already had a base of operations out of which they also subsequently lived. Daniel left, telling his friends he was taking the day off and, by the time he got back that night, he opened the front door to a room painted in blood, his friends and associates lying lifelessly on the floor, riddled with bullet holes. A switch flipped in Daniel. All he could see was red. Everything he built was in ruins. Everyone he liked was dead. He craved only one thing from that point forward: vengeance.
Using his underground contacts and a bankroll he had been adding to for years, Daniel loaded up. Guns, holsters, armor... If he had room on his body to strap on a weapon, he did. Daniel was no detective. The hit could have come from any of his rivals, so he resolved that he was going to take them all out, one by one. As he began to kill mercilessly, he found he had a knack for it. Liked it, even. It wasn't until he got to the last of his city's band of drug runners that he ran into a problem. After dispatching the gang's henchmen he made his way to the big boss and shot him. The big man went down... and then got back up. Daniel shot him again and the incident repeated itself. Gabriel Griffin, the man who refused death, began to laugh as blood slowly oozed out of his wounds and through his dress shirt. He flashed a toothy grin reserved for the devil himself and, in nearly an instant, he closed the distance between he and Daniel before seizing Daniel's own gun and shooting him with it. Daniel hit the ground hard, paralyzed with shock and fear as blood began to pool around him.
"You've got a choice," Gabriel declared. "Talent like yours shouldn't go to waste," he said, looking around at the corpses of his gruns that decorated the room around him. "Several positions on my team have very recently opened up and I could use someone like you. You can sit there and stain my floor until your light's finally extinguished, or I can fix you and you'll work for me to repay this debt," he said, motioning around the room. It didn't take long for Daniel to make a decision. In a panic, he pleaded for aid.
The corners of Gabriel's mouth curved up and his lips slowly parted to reveal unnaturally sharp teeth. Like a cat to a mouse, Gabriel pounced upon Daniel, biting animalistically into the latter. From that point on, Daniel was changed.
Reborn to darkness, Daniel took on the moniker of Draven. Sharing an odd kinship with his sire, Draven fulfilled his part of the deal and worked as Gabriel's red right hand. Gabriel set the targets, Draven erased them. The arrangement was working well enough for a couple of decades, but Gabriel always kept Draven at arms length. When Draven asked to learn more about what they were now, what they could do, Gabriel dismissed him insisting that the only thing he needs to know how to do is his job. Growing tired of being someone's attack dog, Draven decided to leave. Obviously, this was not something Gabriel would allow without incident and the mob boss sent everything he had at Draven. Mirroring how they met, Draven and Gabriel's departure ended in a room full of blood and bodies with the two staring eachother down. The relationship between Sire and Spawn was hard to explain, but neither person was willing to truly end the other. Furious, Gabriel spat and surrendered to Draven's request. "Go then! See how you fare out on your own knowing nothing about our world! Knowing nothing about our people! See how you fare when I'm not there to protect you!" Draven turned and walked out the door.
Having built a new reputation during his career with Gabriel, when word got out that Draven had become independent, the fledgling vampire found himself being bombarded with jobs from various sources. He never saw another vampire again until running into a woman calling herself Mary, Queen of Blood. She was recruiting an army, promising brotherhood and superiority for all of her children. Though the idea of learning about himself under the tutelage of another vampire was intriguing, Draven passed. He would serve no one else ever again. Mary, disappointed with the response, left him with an open invitation should he ever change his mind.
In the modern world, Draven has upgraded his arsenal quite a bit, still killing more with Man's weapons than his own vampiric ones. He prefers to kill malevolent people and possesses an extraordinary ability to keep his thirst under control most of the time, though if he goes too long without feeding, the beast inside will eventually take over, sending him into a bloodlust. With metahumans popping up all over the place, Draven tries to keep to the shadows, only spoken about in whispers.
